This performance was a masterpiece. The use of the solo introduces the simple melody, and it is played beautifully, purposefully using "wrong" notes to bring tension, and unique rhythms to keep us on our feet. As a listener we expect that tension to eventually resolve and be relieved, but no, the full band comes in and subverts expectations by bringing in complex harmonies, fully using dissonance and highly advanced microtonal technique to contrast the simple and overheard "jingle bells" typically played.
As a former elementary school teacher, I feel for everyone here, especially the teacher. I recall trying to organize musical events for assemblies, and the anxiety that always accompanied that.. Luckily, most parents love their kids no matter how bad they sound, and when the inevitable youngster freezes as soon as he/she sees the audience, wanders away and starts waving to his or her parents, or thinks that sticking their bum out and making faces is hilarious, most parents are pretty good-natured about it. I agree. From the time my oldest started in 3rd grade band until my youngest moved into the high school concert band, I attended at least 18 concerts involving the beginner band. I wholeheartedly agree with you. The school my kids all attended introduced kids to band in the 3rd grade, after Christmas, with a concert in May. They start out with all of the students that play a particular instrument learning together so they can spend more time focusing on one instrument during a class time instead of wasting time with all of the students and all of the different instruments during the same class. A couple of weeks before the end of year concert, all the students finally get to practice together. They are TOTALLY thrilled about what they have accomplished. And the parents are thrilled too. All 4 of my kids started in the 3rd grade band. I’ve gone to about 18 concerts that included the 3rd grade, (from my oldest’s 1st concert until my youngest started performing with the high school band.) It was great to see their improvements each year. Some stayed with their original instruments, while some changed. But ALL improved their minds and lives because of what they learned musically. And it all started with 3rd grade band. Their debut concert sounded very much like this one. The director definitely needs to be commended because it HAS to be hard to work with beginners. I would venture to say that all the negative comments are people who didn’t have their kids in elementary beginning band, but God knows that since they can remain anonymous, they think they know everything and if THEY were the director, the outcome would definitely be different. But I seriously doubt the outcome would be different. Bravo to the director, the students, and the parents.
i had a music teacher who i very much admired from 4th grade untill i graduated, and let me tell you when i first started in clarinet it was by no means pretty. lots of broken reads and greasy fingers haha 😂 but my teacher always made me feel special and talented. a teacher like that can make you realize so much about music, way beyond the notes and melodies. i think everyone should have a music teacher like this 😭
Such graceful music. As a high-class, musically cultured individual, my eardrums are truly blessed to hear such beautiful sounds. The passion in Josh’s trumpet solo is clearly seen and those who don’t appreciate his craft should never listen to music ever again. Bravo Bridle Path!
When these children were born, they slapped the doctor for not crying. And when they stay at hotels, the hotel pays them for staying. This is so blursed. Just think. They are all adults now and can do and listen to this masterpiece whenever they’d like. 😂They’re kids, their job is mainly to enjoy music and making it, not to be perfect! They’re doing an amazing thing there. If we wouldn’t have little performances like this, we’d have music as a career or just as an ability perceived as an even more elite thing, which is certainly shouldn’t be. Massive well done and huge respect to the conductor.
Everyone starts somewhere. I remember when I wouldn't tongue between notes, I would squeak every couple seconds, I couldn't play the lowest note, and I would forget fingerings all the time. This "concert" is just an opportunity for parents to see that their kids learned to blow into the instrument and make noise and it's a chance for the kid to experience for the first time what a group performance feels like. We used to do school wide singing recitals and it was never about being the best, it was just about learning how to get on stage and try your best. We had kids pass out from stage fright but they learned a valuable lesson about themselves.
Pure, unbridled JOY! Hands down my favorite version of Jingle Bells - laughing at the sound & cheering for the kids and their enthusiasm. This is the way music is meant to be. Thank you for posting!
This reminds me of the all district concert we had my sophomore year. It was all schools elementary middle and high school intermediate and advanced playing in a huge theater for judges. We had just finished so we were the first group in the audience. The six graders performed ode to joy and I swear to God me and the leading cello since I’m the leading violinist were trying so hard not to die on the spot. I literally had to hide my face and get up and leave they kept retaking measures. Need this in slow and reverb
the composer knows exactly what he's doing. look at this splendid performance showing me why we never had a band program in my elementary school in the first place. but really, the only kid in advanced band here is that soloist there.
The surprising aspect is these are elementary school kids based on the description, and one of the bands present were considered advanced, don’t know which one the trumpet belonged to however, but I hedged it may be on the advanced part of the band. if not, then they are only person in the beginner band that can single-handedly make something not hilariously bad, and make a contrast that just makes this whole video even funnier.

You should have explained your mom that playing the violin takes years to learn. I’ve been playing for 3 years now and I still sound kinda bad
i had a music teacher who i very much admired from 4th grade untill i graduated, and let me tell you when i first started in clarinet it was by no means pretty. lots of broken reads and greasy fingers haha 😂 but my teacher always made me feel special and talented. a teacher like that can make you realize so much about music, way beyond the notes and melodies. i think everyone should have a music teacher like this 😭
The symphonic sounds are just so amazing~! Their dynamics, are just so amazing! The trumpet does a perfect job at filling the ensamble in!

Such graceful music. As a high-class, musically cultured individual, my eardrums are truly blessed to hear such beautiful sounds. The passion in Josh’s trumpet solo is clearly seen and those who don’t appreciate his craft should never listen to music ever again. Bravo Bridle Path!

"if you make a mistake, keep playing because nobody will notice" - every parent
I am actually pretty impressed how that extra note after 03:07 didn´t throw the soloist off. I see some talent for playing passing notes here.
it's the fact that these parents really gave standing ovations for this performance for me 😂
Lmao they were so clueless how bad it was lol
A performance only a mother can love
Heck, I would. That's the hardest I've laughed - and cried - in ages.
Massive well done and huge respect to the conductor.
as a band kid... this is a masterpiece

as a chorus kid… i agree
As an orchestra kid…I disagree
@@Showagoji74 as an orchestra choir and band kid i think it is an amazing performance 🤩🤩🤩

So amazing I have been enlightened. If you ever feel depressed play this song and it should make you feel better

This just makes me think, I started band in 5th grade and I wonder how we actually sounded because I remember us sounding AMAZING
I'm crying!! Couldn't stop laughing, I've just saved it into my Christmas playlist along with Sinatra and Buble ;)
I'm struggling to figure out of this is a gag, or, something real. I mean, they are SOOOO bad this it actually seems impossible....LMAO..
Whenever you need a laugh you can go to it because it really is funny - - after the initial solo it goes south quickly
3:58 the best finale of all time
Thank you to all the beginning band directors. Your the ones that sent all of us off on this musical journey.
Seriously. This shit can be prevented. 😂
All it takes is a good teacher and a little, maybe a few years, of practice🤣🤣
Frr😂😂😂
But why should it
@@Lolveud OK... so let's do the performance after those couple years of practice
I was not ready for that amazingness
i like how everyone isn't playing in time and the "conductor" is walking all over the place like he is give a speech to everyone
the best part of playing with this band is , if you haven't practiced no one will know.

All jokes aside, this is very nostalgic in so many ways. Like it looks 20 years old but it was filmed in 2009
Haha it is very 2009 Christmas concert video quality
The conductor is throwing his hands like a dj more than anything
This is one of the best bands I’ve ever heard
the composer knows exactly what he's doing. look at this splendid performance showing me why we never had a band program in my elementary school in the first place. but really, the only kid in advanced band here is that soloist there.
composer?

soloist: playing
band director: giving the homie a fist bump off stage
The trumpet solo was not even that bad for what i assume a middle school-elementary school band
I'd argue it's good for a middle schooler. Range isn't fully there but the tone is very solid
@@noname8354 yes yes i agree
The surprising aspect is these are elementary school kids based on the description, and one of the bands present were considered advanced, don’t know which one the trumpet belonged to however, but I hedged it may be on the advanced part of the band.
if not, then they are only person in the beginner band that can single-handedly make something not hilariously bad, and make a contrast that just makes this whole video even funnier.
I hear you, tuba. Wherever you are. Good job.
Anytime my band class sounds bad my band teacher pulls this up and yells "DO YOU WANT TO SOUND LIKE THIS?!?!?!"
We've been shown this video like 5 times but istg it sounds worse every single time
the more you know, the worse it sounds 💀
That’s a good teacher
