I couldn't agree more MikeyG. Mike at Cloanto seems to be living off his laurels these days. I got Amiga Forever 10 for free because I had previous version 9. It really needs OS3.1 and OS3.2 which of course add tremendous functionality, but we both know what that would mean. A resolution to the ongoing saga that has partly crippled new Amiga development for several years. instead of releasing version 10 it would have done more for the Amiga if Mike could have announced a reconciliation with H&P to move towards a single Amiga supported by both camps. Sadly because of pride it is just a fantasy in my dreams. Thanks for the video MikeyGRetro. You are doing a great job to keep the Amiga OS alive and Operational.
It's more than just pride Hyperion and Cloanto have irreconcilable different ways of operation with Cloanto providing a variety of entries including some with very low price points.
Your views regarding Cloanto seem misguided at best. Mike is clearly a HUGE Amiga fan, it's a labour of love for him, not a money making exercise. Quite the opposite in fact. He's stated what he wants to see happen and would love to move Amiga forward. He wants to get everything back under one roof and get rid of the fragmented, and frankly toxic environment that has existed for so long. He's invested lots of time and money to do things legally and above board. But there are other parties that go out of their way to make things difficult. At the end of the day, Cloanto have to protect their legally held IP, just like any other company. Once sorted, the Amiga community would be all the better for it.
I wish Mike would get rid of E-UAE on the supplied image.... It's of no use today, and rather than supplying, just point to a link (wish would be regular updated anyway) any open source you provide on CD/image will be outdated shortly..
Thank you for the upload. Great Stuff!. Started with a Amiga 2000 with IBM bridge board. Been on a lifetime subscription package since Amiga Forever version 8 premium, and C64 Forever. Heavy user of emulation these days, with PC's, Raspberry Pi's, and Asus tinker boards. Chris Edwards Restoration, The Guru Meditation, And Dan Wood got me interested in the emulation side of things.
Thank you for the video. I guess I'm a superfrog as I had an A600 back in the day and just want something I can play the old amiga games on. However amongst my favourites were lemmings and lotus turbo challenge. Is it possible to download extra games such as these to play?
I can't figure out what a template is for, the drop down has both workbench options as well as platforms. don't workbenches go with platforms? how is that different from selecting a system in the systems menu? Do you have an Amigafordummies video? I owned a c64 and Amiga500 but its been 25+ years since they hit the garage sale.
Help me out here, Mikey. What am I? I owned an Amiga as a kid and owned A600, A1200HD, C64 Breadbin, and C64C 'till June last year when I had to sell "those old keyboards" (by the command of my dearest significant other). I own Amiga Forever and C64 Forever 9 and still bought version 10 of both, just for support. Am I a Super Frog or a Turrican?
It was a good and useful product, I think I last purchased the 2012 Premium Edition - I did like the "Amiga Deathwatch" videos particularly. Unfortunately, Amiga Forever is of little use to me these days because I don't use Windows any more, just Linux. I did have a short email conversation with one of the guys that produces it when they kept sending me emails to purchase upgrades at a discounted price and I responded to them saying that I'd only be buying revisions if they supported Linux better. Thanks for the review but there's really nothing that new in it that would make me want to get this latest version.
Supporting Linux would be a logistical nightmare. Which distro? Which version of that distro? There's hundreds of them, all set up differently, numerous window managers, different degrees of integration and compatability etc. Linux is a giant, confusing mess. Then you have to decide on just x86, or ARM too? Apple users feel left out too, both x86 and new Apple Silicon. But Windows is still the dominant desktop OS, and backwards compatibility is pretty much guaranteed on any PC from the last 10 years. So much so that you can run many Windows programs ON Linux.
@@another3997 Yes, I am fully aware of Linux's capability to run Windows programs - it's a feature that I use enough to not actually need to run Windows at home any more anyway. But ultimately the guy who runs Amiga Forever emailed me offering a discounted upgrade price not long after I had abandoned Windows and I gave him the polite reason why I wouldn't be doing so.
Even so, the Kickstart roms alone are good and worth it. not to mention the games/demos which can be used on a Mac.. Just open the .rp9 images and grad the adf/hdf.. Rename as needed. Took me about 2 hours or so do do everything : System, Games, Demos, etc,, all you see in the interface, replicated folders accordingly.
Hi Peter, A600 would be the same as my WinUAE Part 2. And for A500 I think my A2000 Subscriber special covers this type of hard drive setup. Check them out and if you think there is something still missing that needs a dedicated video please let me know :-)
I built a AMIGA TOWER using syslinux Amiga Distro, I turn on the Tower and it boots to an Amiga 500. Of course I can edit the config file and boot to whatever Amiga I want!!!!
I've got no connection to Cloanto, but I did buy Amiga Forever about 15 years ago, and still have it. I think they come in for a lot of unfair criticism, people complaining they're scalping Amiga users, making money off old computer stuff that should be free etc. Anyone who thinks Cloanto are making a decent profit from the Amiga might want to look a bit harder and do a few basic sums. This is a labour of love for them, not their primary source of income. We all know the various Amiga IPs have been fragmented for many years, and that has done far more harm than good. Cloanto want to put it all back together again in one place. Then "Amiga" can move forward without lots of petty arguments. But Amiga is never going to be a big money spinner for anyone.
Not a bad review at all and you do adress it for all kind of amiga users but perhaps I missed it but mentioning WinUAE as the underlying product could be an idea? You do mention that Cloanto owns the rights to the Amiga operating system which is absolutely right.
I was really hoping to see the differences between AF 9 and this new version, so this video didn't really help me. Thanks for making this video, I appreciate your effort. 👍
I still got Amiga Forever 8 Premium, and aside from the "candy coating", Arcade mode they've added, but in all honesty, FS-UAE has arcade mode anyway on Mac way before AF had it.
According legal stuff. As far as I know buying Hyperion Amiga OS 4.1 FE you have also legal kickstarts 1.3 and 3.1 including Workbench 3.1 On top of that you have obviously Amiga OS 4.1FE. All together you pay £26.32 on download which is well enough for emulation. WinUAE itself is free of charge. You obviously need to know how to setup everything which your priceless but free channel can explain everything. I learned almost everything from MikeyGRetro plus English Amiga Board. Best regards. EDIT: Installing KX Light video would be great. Just a suggestion :-)
@@fmlazar I did think that nothing much has been happening with that. But was going to check it out. Honestly I won't hold my breath for version 11 having something new. Amilator and AmiDeb have more going for it to be honest.
If everything were that simple, then the protracted legal battles would have been cleared up by the courts long ago. Clearly it is NOT that simple. Hyperion had rights to use OS 3.x in order to develop OS4. But OS4 is pretty much dead, the hardware it runs on is pretty much dead... because it's hugely expensive, outdated, hard to get hold of and poorly supported. Hyperion don't pay the developers of OS 3.14 and 3.2 for their work, and if Hyperion disappeared, that work would probably carry on anyway.
Sadly #Cloanto has been lazy in the past decade, I agree. Many easy access to different newer OS to easily load, game but also app and dev (with IDEs) packs that could be added at additional costs etc. would be appreciated.
What i don't get is Cloanto MUST be loosing money... When you purchase the upgrade + C64 forever (limited time only) ,as i had both a previous versions I decided to just install version 10 as a clean install , I just entered new key.. it went through perfectly fine, which proves there is no verification/checks or what not, How does Cloanto KNOW your not doing this, but it works.... Which means: - People can purchase an upgrade (if they wish to save money, regardless weather they have previous version, or not) because the full vs upgrade is an exact identical version Is this a bug ? It must be.. I saved myself a $$$ plus i *feel* like i got C64 Forever for free. If it was an upgrade key only, why didn't verify anything ? Is this seriously how this has been all these years, and people just assumed
Amiga forever is garbage it is only for tinkers, it is not for main stream, ease of use and is just a niche product. These people say they are doing gaming a favour when all they are doing is saving games for a select few who can get on with this garbage software. No tutorials, no guides, no controller support, no easy options to add roms. THE TRUTH is when these few are gone, the Amiga will die because it is not mainstream or easy to use. Awful.
Why would you buy this expect for the kick starter roms. Its not educational and its not user friendly in anyway. The amiga in these hands and others like them in the scene will die and disappear all together. Rather than bring new people in with a fun and easy piece of software, we get this and other garbage like fs-uae and winuae etc. The end will come this way. Goodbye AMIGA I loved it in my young.

Cloanto DOES supply 3.1 it's the top end of the Commedore system software. It does not have the rights to supply 3.2 as that's Hyperion.
