    John...I wanted to thank you once again for posting this video, I was a little apprehensive performing this install, after a extensive search and watching of every video on the subject I got it done....I had a little harder time because I reinforce the backing plate with 1/4 inch HDPE and under the base so the hack worked perfectly...Keep up the great work

      They have updated their kits to include a starboard backing material but the technique is the same just run para-cord through the starboard and then the steel nut plate.

    Are u satisfied with the location of Landing Gear in the front of the tank well? I have also seen it mounted at the rear of the tank well on the Coosa FD . Just asking because I just picked up my Coosa and am game planning my Landing Gear install. Thanks for the awesome tips!

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  4 года назад +1

      I would recommend it in the forward position since it makes it much easier to move the kayak. If they are more towards the rear you have to lift more weight . It's much better balanced in the position I used in this video.

    Did you us an loctite on the set screws. Great walk through Thanks

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      making it reel no thread-lock. I put a dab of the marine goop on there and holds just fine. With the aluminum threads and steel set screw I'm not a fan of using loctite. If you do be sure to use blue loctite. Red would need heat applied to break it free.

    How"s the Boonedox landing holding up on the coosa Fd. Reason am asking. I just purchased a new 2018 model and have the new 2019 Boonedox groovy landing gear on order with the UHMW stiffener and wedge plates for larger foot print when mounting. Your thoughts about it. Have you heard of any problems from others about the landing gear trying to crack or pull through the plastic from the weight ect. Thanks

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  5 лет назад

      Still holding up great on this original install. I've done a few others on Coosa FD's using the newer backing material and plates and those have been holding up well. Biggest thing is to not store the kayak on the landing gear. Most of the issues I've heard about were caused by that. Also I try not to over load the kayak if I'm going over rough terrain to minimize the risk of damaging the kayak.

    John..Love the tutorial is was very helpful and informative...I was wondering if you considered drilling and tapping to allow for the second set screw to be used...

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      Jim Gargano since I talked to the guys at booneDOX and they didn't feel it would be an issue I didn't consider it. I suppose if you have the tap to do it it couldn't hurt.

      Thanks John...after watching your video I now have the confidence to install the Boonedox on my Jackson Coosa FD..

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      Jim Gargano awesome! Be sure not to store your Coosa FD on the landing gear though. They're great for moving the kayak around and launching but leaving the full weight of the boat on them for extended periods can cause the plastic to deform over time especially when it's summer. I believe booneDOX mentions it somewhere in their info.

    • @jimgargano888
      @jimgargano888 7 лет назад +1

      I have already made a cart to store it on...thanks for the additional information...By the way how do you like the Coosa FD?...I live in the North East and will be doing some ocean fishing on it...

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      Jim Gargano it handles wind and rollers pretty well. I posted a video out on the water in 20 to 30mph winds. I know some the Jackson guys have gone off~shore with success.

    Will you bedoing a scupper hole tranducer mount video for the coosa fd?

  • @markyaldua1202
    @markyaldua1202 7 лет назад

    Great looking kayak. I personally would've gone with the longer backing plates because of the weight of these fishing kayaks. It would make sure no twisting occurs especially when loading and unloading on warm days when the plastic is softer.

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      Yup, good point. Definitely need to be aware of the structure when adding something like the booneDOX Landing Gear. The Coosa FD has been reinforced in that area to take loads from the HD spline and post base mounts. Also good idea to not store the kayak on the landing gear. I've seen the most damage done to kayaks when they're stored improperly.

    That trick with the cord was exactly what I was looking for ! Very good!
    I’m gonna buy a wilderness system radar and I believe the square hatch after the seat will be to far from the installation place for me to reach it but the cord will do it 👍👌

  • @shawnu22
    @shawnu22 7 лет назад +1

    You just convinced me I can get this installed on my Cuda HD......I think. Mounting it just in front of the crossbar seems to be the only logical location. Did doing that restrict the sliding of the seat or remounting the RAM tubes?

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      Only lost about 1" of seat travel if that. I thought it would be more but can slide the seat back more than enough for me at 6'1". I originally used the RAM tube in the booneDOX mount (it has track groove) but went with the Zooka Tube deck mount in the molded in nut plates.

    • @shawnu22
      @shawnu22 7 лет назад +1

      JayDiz Fishing, Thanks for the info. I can lose that much as I'm only 5''-8".

    • @jaydizfishing6024

      Be sure to measure a couple times and be sure you've go it where you want it before drilling holes in your boat. I still get nervous and been rigging boats for years. Marine Goop is your friend.

    Thanks for the great video. I have a 2016 Coosa HD - will this install be the same? Also, was this a booneDOX standard kit or HD kit? Thanks, Mike

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  5 лет назад

      Hey Mike, This was a 2016 Coosa FD and Standard kit. I've done subsequent installs with the newer kit and utilizing the starboard plates under the metal mounting plates. You can add the starboard plates under the older/standard landing gear, will just need longer mounting bolts. Use stainless hardware if you go that route. I have not mounted the latest booneDOX Landing Gear with the improved knuckles but install would be the same. JD

    Great video! I really like the tip with the paracord. I have boonedox landing gear on my slayer propel 13. I do not think i would own this kayak without it, however with a trailer and boonedox it is easier than rooftopping a regular paddle kayak. I've had my Native for a couple of years and i like it, but i'm interested in how well this coosa flex drive system will be. It looks like it would be great for the places i fish. I hope to see future videos to see how well you like it, and the boat in general. Good luck with the boat and i subbed for the well done video. Thanks!

      mulletman2m Thanks for watching and subscribing. I took the FD out last week and real happy with it. The landing gear is a must with this kayak. I used a cart for my BigRig but was still hard dragging it around. I'm going to try and get out again tomorrow and take the cameras with me. Stay tuned...

      Can't wait for the video. Also doesn't boonedox make a longer bar for the hobie kayaks? I would think the longer bar and two more set screws would make a big difference in not allowing twist. Just a thought, anyways good luck on the water.

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate yesterday, too windy. I don't mind the cold but wind + cold not so fun and difficult to get good audio. Hopefully I can get out soon and shoot a walk through and on the water video.
      Yes, booneDOX does have a longer bar but it was too long for the FD. I called them and they said it would be fine just make sure the set screws are tight.

  • @fishingconvelazquez

    How long is that mounting plate?

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  6 лет назад +1

      It's about 6 inches or so. Since I made this video BooneDOX has changed their design of the landing gear slightly. They have also include material to add more support to the mounting area for different kayaks.

      @@jaydizfishing6024 I own a Coosa FD and saw your video yesterday and was impressed. However, my main concern is the structural integrity of my kayak. I’ve noticed several people are now adding additional layers of plastic below deck and above deck for added support. You mentioned Boonedox has since changed their designs which helps provide additional support. Which of their new models do you recommend for the Coosa FD? Thank you for putting together such a great video. 🇺🇸👊👍

    When the wheels are stowed in the up position, will they get in the way of the rod holders? The angle looks like the wheels will be in the way.

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      If you rest the wheels on the hull its close but if you stow them with the wheels outboard of the hull there's no issue at all.

    I need help finding a good location to put my boonedox on my CruiseFD. I have watched a LOT of videos but none showing where to install on my type of yak. There is a large flat area behind the gear track behind the seat but it means I take 1/3 of my well and would have to cut the two bungie hooks directly behind the track because they stick up too high. I'm 5-5 and my seat is all the way forward and I have tons of room behind my seat in front of the bar but the sides are not that thick and that is also where the rudder cables are located. I may be able to position the boonedox directly over the gear track behind the seat as well. Just not sure. Can you help me?

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  6 лет назад +1

      Looking at the layout of the Cruise FD seems the only option is right on the edge of the tank-well. Basically the forward edge of the mounts would be on top of the gear track. You would still have plenty of tank-well and the Landing Gear mounts have gear track slots so you can mount accessories on them. You're correct that there is not enough room forward of the tank-well and the rudder control rods will be in the way. I don't have any Cruise FD's in the shop so I can't be 100% on the location but I believe there would be enough room to allow the control rods to function without coming in contact with the Landing Gear mount backing plates. Hope this helps... JD

  • @duanearledge342

    Just checking - you used the standard Landing Gear, right? You didn't have to order the extra long cross bar, did you?

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      Duane Arledge correct, used the standard bars that come in the kit. The longer bar designed for the Hobie Pro Angler was to long for the FD. As mentioned in the video I called booneDOX to be sure I'd be OK with only using one set screw and they confirmed that it would be fine.

  • @keithlapere7650
    @keithlapere7650 7 лет назад +1

    Can you remove the wheels once in the water. Really don't like idea of them being on the sides outboard because I knoe for a fact they'll get in the way and definitely don't want them deployed in the water because of drag.
    Thx in advance.

    • @jaydizfishing6024
      @jaydizfishing6024  7 лет назад

      Keith Lapere yes, I usually take them off once I get on the water. I leave them in the truck but they actually will fit inside the front hatch of the Coosa FD. Also it's recommended to not leave them in while driving as the might vibrate loose.
