Beautiful... thank you Mick. I, for one, feel privileged to have had your music as the soundtrack to my life since the early 80s. "Love Song" still thumps through my chest like a heartbeat every time I hear it. And "New Gold Dream" takes me straight back to the summer of 83-84 in 🇦🇺 when I would lie on my bedroom floor with my dad's huge headphones on listening endlessly in awe. I really feel as Gen X we were blessed with the best music...
Also - 0:54 The whistle... "They're gonna jail you for that" 😂

I started listening to SM when I was about 8, so that would be about 1984. By listening to Reel to Real and Empires, I was motivated to learn all the wee keyboard parts, so I was lucky enough to get a wee crappy thing that you could only play one key at a time. All these years later I'm still doing music in a big way. And that's mostly to you Mick, for the great music and the inspiration. Thank you 👍

The soundscapes you've given us all are such that words can rarely describe. That's what drew me to the band. It must've been so very special to have been a young "Ned" seeing ocean and skies surrounding you. Those grand horizons that influenced you are everywhere in Simple Minds music while you were in the band. "Brass Band" is one of my favorite instrumentals ever and you've found another voice that only you can create. Nothing like it.

    Thanks Mick, what a joy.
I spent all my early, mid and late 80's listening to Simple Minds, all the way back to Life in a Day in '79. The instrumental movements you (Jim and Charlie) created were pure genius in every sense of the word. Saw you for the 1st time at the Milton Keynes Bowl '86 Once Upon A Time with The Waterboys supporting, and WOW what a great day.
I'm so pleased I've found your channel as I can't wait to watch all of your other Vid8 memories on the road with the boys and Robin Clarke (and what a gorgeous voice she had too).
Thanks Mick and all the best 👍👍

Having read Derek's recent book and the insight into the level of ongoing feeling between himself and Kerr its seems a grand reunion is further away than ever . With your good self , Derek, Brian (or big Mel) still fit and well is such a shame one big ego is stopping something that would be magical. To listen to the 81- 84 albums with the original writers , keyboard , drums and bass doing those albums justice live would be something memorable indeed.
We can only hope.....if not we have the talented trio of "The Minds" .
Hope to hear more from you Mick and these videos are Gold . Many thanks.

Very interesting to see Scarecrow being played on the bus in the context of the "sell out" accusations with OUAT. I was happy for the band and so proud of you all when I was watching you walk onstage at the Kaiser Convention center in Oakland. I got to go along for the ride from 81 and watch the crowds grow and grow and while, yes...OUAT was a different album than SITR, it made so much sense given what was on the radio. Why wouldn't you want your record to sound like that? That's what you were hearing, Let's Dance, Born In The USA....they sounded amazing and you got the right team for "the album we wanted". OUAT sounds smashing even today, never tire of it. I sat next to an older couple who had just found Simple Minds and got to hear those great arrangements of Speed, Catwalk, American. Just brilliant.

I just saw Simple Minds for the second time last weekend in Australia, the first time was in 2017. Both were fantastic shows, and after watching your nostalgic clips, it makes me wish time travel was possible, back to pre 1985 times to see the original line up.

I’m a fan and in a fans’ mind, a band this big is unreacheable and are in another dimension or something. But because of these tapes, shots and moments, as a fan I realise that you could be human after all😅. Anyway, I'm very grateful for your videos and, especially, the new music you're posting with them. I think that was 1st class? there is a 1 on the door and the ticket guy, stopped, another ticket guys comes for our tickets leter on the film. I almost feel the 2nd class ticket guy expressed an aura of distain towards Davie🤣did you get that?

Hey Mick - first off, thanks for this. It's lovely to see a document of life on the road back then. Can I ask you about the synths and patches you chose for New Gold Dream? There are so many beautiful pads across the album that I think your (musician) fans would love to know what inspired you to pick those particular sounds and how you managed to find a musical palette that not only fit so beautifully into the mix but also defined the sound of the band. Or you can just tell me to bugger off. Thanks! Ken.

I wouldn’t tell you to f***k off. What specifically did you want to know?

@@mickmacneil1 ah you're a gentleman. I suppose I've always been interested in the atmosphere you conjured up on 'big sleep' and 'hunter and the hunted' in particular and how you discovered those sounds and did you tweak presets to get them etc. Thanks 😉
