You should showcase each builds basic functions as that can help to see where you maybe messed up or missed something like the ore detector between builds.
The turning issue of the 1 hour one could be resolved by adding more drills to make the front drill wider holes so that you have more clearance. its the reason your 10 minute miner does turn so well in the hole since it's digging almost as wide as the length of the ship
I think that little 1 minute ship would be a great starter miner with a little more power, maybe an additional battery. Also, I've never thought of having a survival kit actually processing basic ores as you mine. I'd like to see how you set up those timing blocks to divert stone to a sorter or ejector though, when you have the time. Fun video!
The audio work is absolutely EPIC. Love the block placement sound on the beats. Very well done. Great video, and certainly learned a few things that I will implement in my builds. Thanks for the great content!
Haha thank you :) I try to remember the 4 things absolutely needed for any small grid ship and that helps prioritize (power, cockpit, gyro, and thrusters in every direction). And then of course a drill!
While I like the 1 hour ship the best, one thing about it that would make it better is some more rear end armor where it is bumping into the walls/voxel. I could see making the top drills somewhat wider and perhaps adding another drill between them so as to make the overall side clearance better without the risk of killing the engineer with tiny spikes of voxel in the process. Additionally, while I really like the idea of a survival kit, it would make more sense to have only one of those, and put an actual refinery on the other side for better ore processing.
Good suggestions! Yes more armor would be very helpful, I agree. If I did it again, I'd probably try to compact everything and make it much wider and way shorter length-wise. As for refinery, I definitely would have added one if possible, but there are no small grid refineries! On a large grid version though, a proper refinery would elevate this to a really solid mining ship.
It's been a few years since I've played this game. I remember what I would do with my first atmospheric mining ship is heavy on forward and reverse thrust and light on sides and forward thrust. My reasoning was being able to point down and lift vertically. I would fly it like a helicopter so I would go full upward thrust and just angle forward to balance my speed and altitude. The side benefit of having equal reverse and upward thrust is it would come to a stop in a reasonable amount of time. I only had thrusters in other directions to keep it steady when hovering.
Im diggin the builds! Lol. The use of the small-grid Large containers is awesome. I built in survival with mediums because i thought the larges were too big. Nah, thats where i went wrong. Time to work out this build. A small with the 10-min design, and a larger with the 1-hour with a couple tweaks. Like, i hate how hydro engines just eat through your ice, so i dont use them. But i work hard to find & refine uranium to design all the rest of power needs around...
Hahaha yes, a little prep before the actual mining 😂 If I were building it again, I'd probably focus on compacting everything so that it is much shorter because that is it's main limitation.
stated previously in comments but remember people mirror building does the same job in half the time making you concentrate on one side of ship only boosting time to make it pretty and neat :) @Shacon24 had to repost this since it helps in tutorials :D
Weird question for a Freighter/Transport: If you use merge blocks to connect 2 ships together, how does that affect the controls? For example, I have an Ion-only cargo transport and a docked hydrogen/Atmo thruster shuttle to ferry me down to a planet and back. Assuming orientation isn't a problem, can the engines on the shuttle be used to boost the speed/agility of the transport? Or more to the point, I want to build a fighter that connects to a hauler with merge blocks so it can look like just another part of the engine cluster, even on close inspection by human players. Then I jump in the fighter cockpit, unmerge, and blow up pirates/raiders.
I was finally able to build a very low tech mining ship, 1 cockpit, 1 battery, 2 thrusters in all directions, 1 drill, and that’s it, it worked great, until the battery (and my NVME SSD) died.
small miner is "over built" while you have headlights for the medium miner, you lack 360 light coverage, its also to big... unable to turn around while mining really.
How did you ride the first design? 294t and only 10 small atmo thrusters shouldn't supposed to even to take you off the ground. I think you cheated something
1'089'540 kg, 1000t, only 4 large thrusters (2 on each side). Earth-like gravity will keep you down no matter how hard you try, only 4 thrusters atmospheric can't do this with a default game settings
Make sure your power draw isnt bottlenecking your thrusters! All those large thrusters need power and if you see the power bar in the bottom right of the screen red and at 100%, that means your thrusters arent getting enough power. Try adding another large battery to the ship and see if it still has the issue.
SE does some extra things to Atmo thrusters if you are say mining at high elevation, your thrusters are not nearly as powerful say than they would be at sea level.
Thank you for a good video.. Andrew... just for a dumb person like me.. is there mabe a tutorial.. like step by step for building a AI miner... and demo how it performs against a manual miner... 😊
more gyro's = more maneuverability yes, even on the largest of ships if you add enough gyro's you can make it spin 5 times around its axis with the flick of a mouse if you want it to.
@@timmyingelbrecht6977 Okay say I have 10 Gyros, I only need two Gyros too function without load = (cargo containers are not loaded), but the more I fill them up while mining the less function my Gyros give me is there a way to turn the other Gyros on the more weight the cargo containers take in? This is all meant to be done automatically of course.
The event controller can turn them on or off, but i dont think there is a rule in there for ship weight, but perhaps there is a rule for cargo capacity, you might ( i havent played since event controller is introduced) be able to program them to turn on an extra gyro's if ship storage is at 25% capacity, and another gyro at 50% , etc ... you can probraly target it at a specific cargo containers as well instead of all containers @@7T_Primal_Wolf

Never thought to process stone down on the miner itself... thats a great idea. Always learn something new from an AMG vid!
Love the matching up of the block placement with the beat!!! That came out great!
Your hydrogen ship doesn't have a sealed cockpit, so space usage would be limited to how many oxygen bottles you have on hand.

Swapping a cargo container for a survival kit on the 10 minutes one with ejectors set to throw all that gravel might be an interesting solution

Right? I've seen so many genres do this sort of thing but not in Space Engineers, even though it seems like the perfect place to do it.

I find it ridiculous that they allow you to mount a thruster on the output of another thruster, but they are restrictive with physics in other ways.
