For those of you who miss The Laser, it's now reapainted and renamed "Testrecke" and it's in a park called Fruhlingfest in Germany. There's videos of it on RUclips.
Hey there extremely late to the party but anyways this was my first ever looping rollercoaster. I went on it with my dad in 2004. I remember not realizing you needed to lean your head back while going upside down so my neck was pretty sore after the ride. My dad looked like he was going to throw up as well. My dad died a couple years ago so I’m glad I stumbled upon this as it’s a good memory for me.
I still miss this coaster!!! I didn’t know they got rid of it until 2014 😢 I have some fond memories of me and a friend riding this together and keeping our hands up even in the loops 😍🙌🏽
My favorite roller coaster of all time. One time on Memorial day I was with my brother n his 2 kids n wife. It rained, and most people left. We stayed . My brother and I got to ride this roller coaster 4 times in a row. There was no one waiting to get on it. When we got off I was so high from the adrenaline rush I floated to the next ride. Which was the Enterprise. We spent 4hrs riding the best Dorney had to offer with no waiting, no lines. The absolute best time I've ever spent at Dorney park.
I went to Dorney Park for the first time last Tuesday (I typed this comment in 2023). Of all the coasters that Dorney Park used to have, this is the only one I wish they still had. I've ridden Colossus: The Fire Dragon at Lagoon in Utah, and a version of that in my home state would've been awesome! Hardly anything is even on the land that Laser took up. To be fair, I hope Dorney Park could find another place to put Cedar Creek Flyers.
Possessed was built nearby while Laser was still operating in 2008. Stinger operated in Laser's old spot until it was removed in 2017. It's pretty depressing to walk back there now because the Cedar Creek Flyer ride is the only thing there which was a pretty terrible choice of space for a kid's ride if you ask me. It's so out of the way and the area feels deserted compared to what it used to. Laser may not have been the best ride in the park, but it was a solid coaster in their lineup and it always drew a crowd. It was a good coaster to for families to introduce younger riders to looping coasters as it was the only one in the park with lap bars. Plus the Dinosaurs Alive attraction behind Steel Force's station was removed a few years ago which takes more people away from that area of the park if they don't plan to ride Steel Force or Possessed. Dorney has so much barren land back there and I think it's time they added a newer wooden coaster to compliment Thunderhawk.
Laser is a great ride; it has two of the most forceful loops that I've ever experienced. You have also have to appriciate the fact that this is really a portable coaster and was designed to fold up onto a bunch of trucks to be carted around.
I hadn't ridden on Lazer since July of 1996. Briefly, everyone had to scatter during a thunderstorm but the park attendants were drying those seats as soon as the sun came back out.
Argh! I'm glad I had the chance to ride this coaster. Now there is only one coaster at Dorney with a loop! Ah well, the selection at Dorney is still great (i.e. Talon, Steel Force, etc.)
I just love Laser's second loop. It pulls off so many g-forces. Heh, this is one of the most imitated rides, you can find something similar at amusement parks or even fairgrounds around the world.
@FoldingTheSkyline It was designed to be a portable coaster, believe it or not. It was built in to 70's and was first in a park in Brazil, then moved to Dorney in 1985. Besides...you can move anything, portable or not, if you're willing to pay the cash to do it.
@CAZZERNERY No the place where the lazer was is now a field of grass... the demon drop is located where the bumber cars use to be... they are saving the field for a possible new coaster coming in about a year.
@CoasterBuilder223 NO?!?! They took it down?!?! OMG.... I loved that roller coaster. It was brutal like a wooden roller coaster combined with the G forces of a steel roller coaster. It was painful and amazing.
my little brother went on this ride and he almost fell off he said him and the kid sitting next to him there seat belt wasnt on the right way i will never ride this again after that
You don't need ""head things"" on a roller coaster JUST because it has a loop. There are many coasters with loops with just a lapbar (like Laser) that are safe.
@lavchick101 just to let you know riding rollercoasters is safer than crossing the street. there probably the safest thing in the world they have like the fewest death records of anything in the entire world. and if there is an injury its usually not the rollercoasters fault its the person riding it so just follow all the rules and trust me nothing will happen. i used to be petrified of rollercoasters until i was 7 and nowim going on 14 and im obsessed ive been on this, kingda ka, and many other
i really don't want to see more of these old looping ones go. i think they're underestamated. they're all very excellent quality. just because they aren't tall r fast doesn't mean they're not fun. however, laser's spot will occupy a coastaer just as thrilling and exciting next year: Stinger (invertigo moved from california)
Having been on this ride, all I can say is that this is some amazing camera work. No idea how you kept the camera so steady on such an intense ride. Two thumbs up! Watching this made me feel like I was on it again, which I will be this coming Sunday.
i never said hydra gave neck problems! i said that HERCULES, which was where hydra stands now, gave neck problems. And btw, the only reason thunder hawk gives neck problems is because it was the first roller coaster built in Dorney. But of course, they later remodeled the track, but its still bumpy, because its an old, wooden roller coaster!
@incredibleizationify fortunately i was able to ride this ride before it was taken down along with the newer ride voodoo (possessed). to be honest even though laser was a short ride that kinda hurt i think it is better than voodoo because laser was just a classic and their always fun. ya i rode talon and hydra..talon was actually one of my first looping coasters and i loved it.
ok let me set the record for you all who think they know dorney. you know jack un less you have worked there like i did. I lost wo great rides for there but in my heart they will live on. laser was to m=be out over ten years befor it was it was pass its time as far as ride ops went but people liked the ride. so it stayed
it's not gone yet...they're supposidly taking it down..cause i was there everyday this weekend and once last weekend and it's been closed. they say they're taking it down. but its still there! but just not running
they took down hercules and laser, but put in obessed and hydra. they are all good rides, but hydra and herculesgave you back and neck problems, and were somewhat unstable
For those of you who miss The Laser, it's now reapainted and renamed "Testrecke" and it's in a park called Fruhlingfest in Germany. There's videos of it on RUclips.

Rode this back in 2001. More fun than Steel Force.
It really was a fun ride!
I still miss this coaster!!! I didn’t know they got rid of it until 2014 😢 I have some fond memories of me and a friend riding this together and keeping our hands up even in the loops 😍🙌🏽
I rode this, and I will never forget it. RIP Laser

Those early RUclips graphics at the beginning take me back
I remember working as an attendant on this ride and it was all rust, at least now at its new park it is repainted and looking good.
Brian
They took it down in 08 and they didn't build anything until last year. The stinger!!!
This ride has been sold yay!!
I remember this roller coaster. I think someone told me it’s either where Possessed is now or that big open space across from The Flier
This was my first roller coaster when I was 7 glad to see that memory in my head again here
With only a little lap bar to hold you in and no seat belt is what separates this ride with all the modern coasters.
hey, i nvr said tht any other coaster was better than Laser. UT IT IS AWEOSME!! I LUV IT
:)
Can't wait to visit dorney visting the park july 31st
Laser is a great ride; it has two of the most forceful loops that I've ever experienced. You have also have to appriciate the fact that this is really a portable coaster and was designed to fold up onto a bunch of trucks to be carted around.
I hadn't ridden on Lazer since July of 1996. Briefly, everyone had to scatter during a thunderstorm but the park attendants were drying those seats as soon as the sun came back out.
WOW, I remember this Rollercoaster!! This was the second rollercoaster I ever rode. (The first was Steel Force)
I had no idea! That was my first coaster! Bye Bye Laser!
as of right now, nothing is replacing Laser.
Reminds me a bit of my home park Frontier City the Silver Bullet. Only Silver Bullet has one loop.
great vid......that sound was the zephyr passing by
i loved this ride !
Love this classic attraction.
Great video. I'm gonna go on that soon.
Argh! I'm glad I had the chance to ride this coaster. Now there is only one coaster at Dorney with a loop! Ah well, the selection at Dorney is still great (i.e. Talon, Steel Force, etc.)
We are getting a new ice rink, most likely in that spot as there's no word of a new coaster.
Besides...you can move anything, portable or not, if you're willing to pay the cash to do it.
it was retired and taken down in 2008, this was done to make room for the stinger roller coaster
Kristina incorrect, the reason was that someone had gotten injured, their arm hit something
i miss the laser =[
i cant wait 2 go on this weekend
Ever heard the expression "Good things come in small packages!"? Those loops are INTENSE!
aww i never got to go on this one :[
@CAZZERNERY No the place where the lazer was is now a field of grass... the demon drop is located where the bumber cars use to be... they are saving the field for a possible new coaster coming in about a year.
@bsslegel actually 'Frühlingsfest' is a funfair. Teststrecke travels trough germany and it visits different cities here. Its not located.
it was my second coaster with loops
ooooh that one looks funn!
@CoasterBuilder223 NO?!?! They took it down?!?! OMG.... I loved that roller coaster. It was brutal like a wooden roller coaster combined with the G forces of a steel roller coaster. It was painful and amazing.
@DevinF1120 if your talking about the comet at hershey park then that is a great ride.
aww they took it down! i nvr been to doney park till tomoro this looked fun =(
Welcome home.
awesome. Probably the closest I will ever get to Wiener Looping or Olympia Looping (are they the same? dunno). Good to see these still around.
R.I.P
Bummer they took it out,Looks fun too
This is a fun ride. But the g forces on the loops made me pull a muscle lol.
this one looked cool :]
It would have been nice if they kept this, it looks so much better than Stinger, which is also gone now.
@souljaboy662 no, bc I went in 2008 and the hydra and the laser were both there.
this ride is crazy i hurt myself in this ride couz i bump my head on my friends head.. but i miss this ride its cool
They moved Laser to Germany. Its now called Teststrecke. still i miss seeing Laser at Dorney.
my little brother went on this ride and he almost fell off he said him and the kid sitting next to him there seat belt wasnt on the right way i will never ride this again after that
i wish they still had that ride cuz its better than possessed
RIP: Herculese, Laser. I wish they hadn't taken them down
me too!
You don't need ""head things"" on a roller coaster JUST because it has a loop. There are many coasters with loops with just a lapbar (like Laser) that are safe.
@RunWithoutScissors Kingda Ka is great, my first major coaster is Comet and i was around 7 to
It's not taking the place, it's just a new attraction. It's not even CLOSE to the area of where Laser stood. Laser's space is empty.
yaa? i would guess about maybe 5 yrs...BUT NO MORE THAN 8. i really luv this ride though
Unfortunately, not enough of them!
this is more intense then kingda ka ive been on both
I think it is the same Sir Jimmy.
And I wanna go to Lagoon :(
@lavchick101 just to let you know riding rollercoasters is safer than crossing the street. there probably the safest thing in the world they have like the fewest death records of anything in the entire world. and if there is an injury its usually not the rollercoasters fault its the person riding it so just follow all the rules and trust me nothing will happen. i used to be petrified of rollercoasters until i was 7 and nowim going on 14 and im obsessed ive been on this, kingda ka, and many other
they had to take it down because some parts were falling apart and they had to make room for more future coasters
yup. i agree. idt Hypersonic would go there, but anything is possible. I heard they weren't putting anything up... ever.
always considered this to be Scorpion @ BGT's big brother. It's like a larger version of the same ride.
@Buliderman9 Yeah its named Test trecke or something
lines are shortest on mondays. I go on mondays all the time and i can literally get off a ride and get on the next train.
i heared from a employe there are getting this back!
it was fun but painful on the loop i almost broke my neck
i really don't want to see more of these old looping ones go. i think they're underestamated. they're all very excellent quality. just because they aren't tall r fast doesn't mean they're not fun.

@jrmorelos12 it was there for a long time and it has been taken away
@incredibleizationify fortunately i was able to ride this ride before it was taken down along with the newer ride voodoo (possessed). to be honest even though laser was a short ride that kinda hurt i think it is better than voodoo because laser was just a classic and their always fun. ya i rode talon and hydra..talon was actually one of my first looping coasters and i loved it.
They removed it to make room for Hydra, which is basically a better version of the Laser. Still, it was a classic.
hydra isn't anywhere near where the laser was. you're thinking of hercules I think?
Most people dont BLACKOUT on it.. They just go kinda gray. And its because the ride is forceful (and safe)
It doesn't hurt at all.
RIP Laser
dorney park sold this ride. it will be missed.
rip LAZER !!!
lol in the background in the end, u can hear a kid saying "dad i HATE YOU!!!"
What? Hydra and Talon. And another, I think. That's 2 right there.
Man I wish I had gotten a chance to ride this, the Voodoo (or Possessed) really isn't that satisfying.
i wish i rode it :'(
DONT GO ON THiS RIDE. IT MAY SEEM SMALL BUT IT IS THE ONLY RIDE IN DORNEY PARK THAT HURT. It is pretty intense
I rode it and I am baffled about the lift hill. What kind is it?
ok let me set the record for you all who think they know dorney. you know jack un less you have worked there like i did. I lost wo great rides for there but in my heart they will live on. laser was to m=be out over ten years befor it was it was pass its time as far as ride ops went but people liked the ride. so it stayed

they took down hercules and laser, but put in obessed and hydra. they are all good rides, but hydra and herculesgave you back and neck problems, and were somewhat unstable
it's closed now. forever....
I don't think this ride even has a seatbelt. When I rode it in 2005 I think it just had a standard lapbar.
no two coasters at dorney that have inversions
I miss it. Too bad they tore it down to put up the mysterious empty field ooo
@CoasterBuilder223 why did they take it down?
messed up they took this down guess it had a lot of problems cause it was always broken down when i went i only rode it once
is the demon drop taking place with the laser?
WAIT SEC. I was at dorney yesterday and I didn't see it.
Gary DeRosa I know is comment is 6 years old but it got replaced by stinger in 2012, which itself closed in 2017
The park sold it, after 2008 it wont be in the park anymore.
