Another gem from *Anton Schwarzkopf* this was Taz's Texas Tornado at Six Flags Astroworld, this has since been relocated to Isla San Marcos Parque Temático, Aguascalientes, Mexico. All Anton rides are smooth and forceful. This coaster, AKA *Thriller*, is still on the traveling fair circuit in Europe as well
I went to Astroworld several times, but never got to ride this due to it always being closed when I went. Looks like a lot of fun too. Oh well, at least were several other great coasters there :)
I only ever rode it once... it was actually really disorienting, and a little jerky. that first drop was also very intense. I had a good time on it, but yeah... it was an extremely rare ride to check off.
I got to ride it one time... the top of the seats were like plastic and the ride will cause your head to bang side to side when we saw young girls getting off the ride crying we thought it was becouse it was scary.. But no.. It was fun but your head did hurt after
It was a fantastic ride. I used to go here several times a year. Rode this bad boy many times. The third inversion caused a lot of people to grey or black out.
I wonder why Astroworld went out of business? That was my favorite place to go & had so many great memories of it back when I was a kid. Houston won't be the same without it.
Because they had no room to expand or open more rides. So therefore ticket value dropped over time. Then summer passes became so cheap that criminal activity was common occurrence this being the downfall of Beloved Astroworld
Rode this ride quite a few times, but one time stands out in my mind. My future wife and my best friend were riding with me and during the second loop after initial first drop, they both blacked out from the G forces. I looked over at my girlfriend (wife) and she was out for a few seconds, those were the good old days when the only thing we worried about was getting a ride to Astroworld!
those over the shoulder restraints were hell. it was like being smashed by violent force down in to your seat. would of been a great ride if it weren't for that.
Yep this was better for a straight adrenaline rush but viper, greased lighting and ultra twister were all way more comfortable...the batman ride was even worse than the taz tho
One thing I'm surprised about: Why were there so many block brakes? Were they trying to run four train ops or something? I doubt they could load that fast on such a short ride LOL
Bit late but - This was originally located at the German fair circuit under the name Thriller and would travel from fair to fair. It did have 5 train operations there. And it was perfectly doable. Just look at Olympia Looping. That ride still operates at the German fair circuit and runs 6 trains regularly and also has a ton of block brakes, and is also from Anton Schwarzkopf just like this, so I think Thriller/Texas Tornado was the same.
I worked in the Operations Office calling out signal 2's and this ride would barely open in the morning and be shut down by noon. Really miss Astroworld!
MrJrod899 Mechanical problem, closes due to rain, ride stops some where on the track because someone pressed the e-stop. Example "Base to all unit the Tazs Texas Tornado is 10 -7 due to weather.
Well, the Mindbender at Edmonton is one of the most intense coasters I've ever seen. I don't think it was the restraints hurting your back, but the sheer forces in the loops.
Got on this ride 4 times in a row one summer day because there was no line...the whole structure looked very unsafe and would shake like crazy more than normal. After that day every time I went it was closed then eventually was gone.
from what I understand.... it was a travelling coaster intended to be dismantled and reconstructed in a week. so yeah, may explain why it was such a jerky ride... and always looked really unsafe every time we saw it from the ground. lol
Six Flags Over Texas needs to slice and dice the Shockwave and put this one up!I went to Astroworld once and it was down unfortunately at the time...looks really fun!
They should have never closed it to begin with. Could have gotten somebody else to take over. This place was always pack of people. This was part of Houston. They need to bring back another theme park in Houston, would be really awesome if Astro world came back.
I rode it many times. Wish it didn't have those little shoulder harness things, just the lap bar like other Schwartzkopffs. That third inversion was really intense.
@LegoThemeparkCrazy It's a 16 hour flight there that costs at least $5000. This stood a month in an amusement park in my country's capital, it was there I wish I'd rode it. I was 0,3 years old back then though.
It would have been an awesome ride had the restraints not hurt so bad. It damn near dislocated my left shoulder. I rode it once, and that was more than enough for me, and after I rode it that day, I don't think I ever saw it open again. I know it didn't run again after I rode it.
There was an incident in 1998 which involved a loaded train rolling back down the lift hill and colliding with another train. Is there anyone who remembers this accident or even was on or near the ride when it happened?
+John Fleming. Don't Worry Be Happy! And Plus They're Making A Theme Park In New Caney, Montgomery County And There's Gonna Be A Sweet, Smooth Woodie! And Awesome Rides Like This!
That sounds fun and all. But they need to bring back a theme park back to Houston. Yes grand Texas will be in New Caney tx. But it be really awesome if they brought back another astrosworld close to the city of Houston. Astroworld was the best!!
We miss you Texas Tornado. Then again, we also miss Astroworld all together.

Mexico is selling this coaster for scrap metal.
RIP Astroworld

Gideon Waxfarb you not lying bout that

@@reneguerra1982ify those little shoulder harnesses were pretty brutal.
Schwarzkopf sure knew how to rock these G-forces. 6,5 G, wow! I wish I could've rode this.
This was one of the big roller coaster at AstroWorld that I never rode, cause it was always closed when I would go.
Same. We’d go when visiting Houston, but it was always closed.
oh my Six Flags Astroworld how i miss u sooooooo soooo very much! :'( RIP awesome place
I wonder why Astroworld went out of business? That was my favorite place to go & had so many great memories of it back when I was a kid. Houston won't be the same without it.

As well the prime area of real estate
I miss this ride (Astroworld only had it for a few years), and I miss Astroworld

Thanks for the story it was nice to read. I hope you and her are doing well.
Are y’all Travis Scott fans
Best ride.. hurt my shoulders from the harnesses pressing down, but awesome ride

What is a signal 2?

Man I remember this was my first roller coaster that I rode this was awesome!
This was one brutal coaster. RIP Astroworld, we miss you bunches. :'(
#RIP ASTROWORLD...memories always be with yu...all the good times...seriously =(
This is now at Isla San Marcos Parque Temático, Aguascalientes, Mexico
Got on this ride 4 times in a row one summer day because there was no line...the whole structure looked very unsafe and would shake like crazy more than normal. After that day every time I went it was closed then eventually was gone.

Are you sure you want to completely demolish Looping Coaster 3?
Six Flags Over Texas needs to slice and dice the Shockwave and put this one up!I went to Astroworld once and it was down unfortunately at the time...looks really fun!
I do have to say that i only rode the ride one time and then it left astroworld and it was the best ride i ever rode.
If only it was still a theme park, sixflags is selfish
Well it closed because the land it was on was apparently valuable but they made a mistake closing it be cause the got 1/2 of the estimated value
They should have never closed it to begin with. Could have gotten somebody else to take over. This place was always pack of people. This was part of Houston. They need to bring back another theme park in Houston, would be really awesome if Astro world came back.
Jennifer Martinez call on Travis
Sean Lewis Lol
I rode it many times. Wish it didn't have those little shoulder harness things, just the lap bar like other Schwartzkopffs.
That third inversion was really intense.
2:25 WELCOME MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!
Those loops look INTENSE!
When I got on this as child. The g forces push my head down I could not she shit lol

The reason this closed is that it wasn’t intended to be a permanent ride. So it started to weaken and was taken away after 2 seasons.
It would have been an awesome ride had the restraints not hurt so bad. It damn near dislocated my left shoulder. I rode it once, and that was more than enough for me, and after I rode it that day, I don't think I ever saw it open again. I know it didn't run again after I rode it.
This ride was so awesome! I wish they would have gotten it to work properly in stead of it being down for maintanance all the time.
Let’s say Indiana beach May save this ride
There was an incident in 1998 which involved a loaded train rolling back down the lift hill and colliding with another train. Is there anyone who remembers this accident or even was on or near the ride when it happened?
Somebody recreated this ride in the game Planet Coaster, it look just like it too!!
Jroc2k Beats I made a recreation of it. It has the Zonga colors though
Never got to ride it due to always being closed.
amazed. i thought this was one piece of german crazy and it seems so.
This one was NEVER open. Sad day
@hetor0505 Yeah, that's where it ended up after closing.
This ride was always closed. Always
It wasnt there in 2006.
how do you put ur video camera on you when your on a roller coaster
Un segundo esa es tsunami?
Did someone die on this ride in 2006?
@runescape0063 helmet cam
