    Spent many a day at Astroworld in the late 1970s. My friend's mom would drop us off on her way to work and we would spend all day there.

    Thanks for the footage...I should also do a montage of the photos I took on that last day. The Cyclone was my first coaster in 6th grade...my mother dragged me on it kicking and screaming...and I have been a coaster fanatic ever since! I'm so glad I was able to go on that last day. Only heard about it a few days before and drove up from Austin.

    I am sorry for Houston's loss of such a great landmark. Leave it to Six Flags to F@#K up a good thing. On those hot Houston days, the best rides for me were the Alpine Sleigh Ride, and the Bamboo Shoot. I loved it all though! Let's not forget Southern Star either, where i saw some great rock concerts! Washington State has a dinky little park here called Wild Waves. It just pales by comparison to Astroworld. That was such a great amusement park! Best Wishes Houston, Wayne Rice

    I think since the Texans moved in right next to it, if they would've touched it up a bit like they did Fiesta Texas, it would've gotten SO much more love. I went here once but it is one of my earliest memories of roller coasters and that kind of fun. Honestly, I always dreamed of going back and knowing that I never can makes me super sad. Oh well. Astroworld was my first job back in the 1980. Made some new friends and ride the rides with my buddies after I got off from work. You work hard and long hours at Astroworld but you also party hard as well. On one Employee night I ate some dogs and rode the Texas Cyclone for about 20 times straight at that night..I was sick afterwards. I have only worked there for 2 1/2 seasons. The only two type of badges I have never wore there is a banana tag and a blueberry tag.

      why?

    • @maxvanrossum1755
      @maxvanrossum1755 8 лет назад

      +David Martinez many reasons. Main one was that there was 3 six flags parks in Texas (astroworld, fiesta TX, over TX). Also astroworld didn't receive much love from six flags. I mean, look at the coasters they received when it was six flags...at first it was not bad...but then from the late 80's till closing...they got cheap coasters/hand me downs from other parks. there are also more reasons. its sad that the park closed and now its unoccupied flat land. Maybe someone will make another amusement park there...

    • @davidplayhard
      @davidplayhard 8 лет назад

      oh. okay. thanks.

    • @one-bell
      @one-bell 8 лет назад

      +David Martinez It's difficult for some to admit but the park and the city in general had a growing gang violence problem since the mid 90's that came to a head around the time the park closed. Even in 1996 people mean-heartedly referred to it as 'Afroworld', but there were shootings and other incidents in the park, adjoining astro-domain venues and parking lots that caused attendance to fall. The park fell into poor repair and it ultimately came down to an exec that saw a quick buck to be made (ultimately resulting in an auction sale well below valuation, losing the company $35m in potential land assets). The general consensus is that the much loved Houstonian judge that initially built the park as a gift to the city is rolling over in his grave over it's fate. The "3 parks in Texas" excuse was counter to corporate philosophy (there WERE 6 parks in texas in the 70's and 80's).

It’s ridiculous that they destroyed AstroWorld. It is the Time to rebuild AstroWorld. Houston Tx needs astroWorld amusement park back. Euston should have AstroWorld amusement park and we don’t even have one anymore. I love astroWorld like sooo many other people did. It makes Euston look stupid because we do not have AstroWorld. It was spectacular. Come on people Rebuild. AstroWorld better than ever. Again Houston Tx needs astroWorld back. Its not going to be Astroworld that is being rebuilt. It's a completely new Theme park named earth quest adventures that will be located north of bush intl airport.
