I extremely saddened by the loss of our only beloved theme park Astroworld. Being raised up going there yearly with my father's company Aramco. The company held yearly gatherings there. I used to go also on the weekends with friends and get on rides and watch concerts. One memorable concert was and the last time I saw her alive was selena's concert there. rest in peace selena we love you. I will never forget it. God bless everyone.

Behind them investing too much money in Geauga Lake/Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Ohio is main ly what led to the downfall of many Six Flags owned parks...They were trying TOO HARD to compete in the Ohio amusement park scene, ESPECIALLY against the flagship park of Cedar Fair, namely Cedar Point, but in the end got burned....BIG-TIME!!!!!

This commercial played at the beginning and end of Travis Scott's set at ACL, but he gave it this distorted, dystopian vaporwave vibe to the video and audio. Gave me chills.
I still am Beyond pissed they closed Astroworld. Waiting in line for rides was great, loved people watching. I had birthday parties there. Remember getting the coke cans for a discount ticket? Sad that Houston even allowed a land mark to be let go. Theses memories will live for ever, but would be even better for new ones. ASTROWORLD I MIss you dearly!
I went to Astro World only one time with my dad. I was 8 years old. 1989. I remember it well. It was the best day ever. I even saw an Astros baseball game.
My god I remember that commercial!! I've been on every single ride, (except the SWAT which was the last new ride before the park folded). Anybody who grew up with Astro World will tell you that the wooden roller coaster you see there, the Texas Cyclone was simply the bomb!!! I personally liked the Sky Screamer too...
Toward the end of the park's history, the dolphin pool was removed mostly because the dolphins died as a result of the pool being over-chlorinated. According to what I had heard, an attendant had chlorinated the pool one day. The next day, someone else did the same thing thinking it hadn't been done, without checking the chlorination levels. By the following day, the dolphins were dead. As a result, it was decided to take the attraction out. This was the second time it had happened at AW.
What a perfect place to meet chicks back in the 80s an 90s. An just people from all over Houston. Kids these days really missed out on a special place. An a place to get dropped off in morning an picked up at night.No parents. Lol Astroworld was my babysitter.
Miss this place so much worked there several Summers it was Amazing...got to eat for a Discount, and go to the Concerts after my shift and hang out no cost...and it was the best working ar Waterworld at the Banana Boat Tanning lotion booth selling Frozen candy bars it was the Best!!!!

Had nothing to do with gangs. Astroworld was making a profit but the parent corporation was in huge debt so Kerian Burke CEO of Six Flags thought he could make a lot of money off selling the land. So he sold it and demolished the park leaving a lot less cash than he thought. Astroworld could have made that same cash just operating for another 5 to 10 years. Not a good business decision. He lost his job and so did the entire board of directors. Six Flags eventually filed bankruptcy they were so badly in debt.

@Coasternator Yes I know. My comment meant that they were a legacy attraction from the original management of Astroworld that did not last long after Warner Bro. took over the place. A lot of the classic attractions were gutted for far worse attractions in similar fashion. It was the shape of things to come.
Then Six Flags CEO Kieran Burke decided that the new parking lot lease price from Reliant Park was too high. Additionally citing 'performance issues' with park attendance, it was decided to demolish the park and sell the land. He thought the land would fetch $150 mil or more. In fact, if sold for $77 mil and $20 mil of that was spent to demo the park. Many of the rides were damaged beyond reuse. It would have been better to try and sell the park whole. He was summarily dismissed as a result.
brings back memories, lots, one was when i met my wife of 27 years she's gone but she left me with a wonderful daughter and 2 grand kids so sad because my grand kids never had the chance to enjoy astroworld, our daughter did, but anyways, when i met the one who was going to be my wife, first thing she asked me was to take her to astroworld, before that she asked me to take her to eat, that, i did when we got there she was so excited just like a little girl she looked so radiant and beautiful and the first ride was the rollercoaster, it was a disaster because i threw up all over us she thought it was funny she couldn't stop laughing i was so embarrassed we quickly took off to a water ride don't remember the name of it but we had a good splash something like taking a bath in public it was a hot and hummed summer typical Houston summer, that was our first date, Liz the kids are alright we all missed you like hell thanks for all the memories, the best of times, good bye
Here's a secret only Astroworld employees know about. The Waterworld Employee Luau. When after hours when both parks are shut down, employees would get to have Waterworld all to themselves. No lines. Free games and food. And the chance to finally hook up with your crush lol. Good times
It's been over 5 years now and the land still sits there VACANT! Makes me sick. I really feel bad for the kids of Houston today, because they are missing out on the fun that I use to have. I here that there is going to be an amusement park coming in 2013 to the North of Houston.
