  • .My friend Alice McNamara was riding with me when I shot this in September, 2005 - there is a very funny story behind my ''shoot'', and I'll tell you about that later!...All I can say now is that I wanted this footage so badly, and I was thrilled when I realized that I had succeeded!..please see more at CAMPDAVIDFILMS.COM - and THANKS!

I live in Maryland but my parents grew up in Houston and rode this ride hundreds of times. In 2005, when they heard that Astroworld was closing, they immediately flew my family (I am one in a set of triplets and I have an older sister) down to Houston to ride this legend... This was my first rollercoaster ever. RIP Astroworld, you will forever be my first and favorite amusement park.

Yeah I lived in Houston during this time. Such a sad day when they closed. I had season passes and was off at least one day during the week at my job so we'd go and ride everything with no lines during the week

A true classic version of a true classic! Whatever park gets rebuilt in the Houston area NEEDS to rebuild this AS IT WAS!

Awesome. I rode that probably a hundred or more times as a kid and remember that track like it was yesterday. Thanks for posting.

The best roller coaster EVER. None of the sleek, smooth metallic new ones can compare. I will never for get the fear/expectation of climbing up to, and going over that first drop, and the rest of it was nonstop thrilling. It's so sad that it's gone. I rode the original Cyclone in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The Texas Cyclone was even better.

When I went to Astroworld, there were actually boards hanging off the thing, just sort of rattling.
      That was in 1990.

We had senior night at Astroworld tradition in Beaumont where I went to high school. It was once per year. We were partying on blow and ecstasy and I accidentally dropped a hit of ecstasy on the loading platform and the place was packed. I drop to my knees scrambling around for it and finally found it. I thought for sure it would have dropped through the wooden beams supporting the platform

this seems hilariously rinky dinky compared to coasters these days..but be sure to all if you ever road it was violent as hell. it was scary AF!! something about the ricketyness made it seem out of control... people would have neck injuries on this ride..

If it had, the shear forces would've peeled the whole thing off the tracks at the speed it was going. 60 MPH was insanely fast for wood.

that was the best ride,it looks so tiny on the video it wasnt it was gut wrenching, they actually screwed it up though,at first way back in the super early 80's the seats were just a flat bench with no head rest so it would sling you all around it was fast and awesome, then they got these super big seats with giant head rest's so you were strapped in,you couldnt even see ahead of you,THE BEST place to ride was the very back,it went better over the drop off.when we were kids we had season tickets and we would ride it then run down and back up and there were only about 7 or 8 people in front of you, years later i returned like in 92 it was ghetto town for one thing, yea pretty dark and the rides had lines that made you wait for like 3 hours or more so screw all that crap, just like everything else in this country,so they shut it down.ghetto town houston trash.
