I rode this last week. I thought it was a fun ride! Very smooth! It's not going to be intense enough for fanatics who want big forces but it's great for people who like an intermediate ride that isn't going to send your stomach into your throat.
When this coaster first opened I was at an enthusiast event at Dorney where we got a ton of ERT on this and Talon. Probably the best night of ERT I have ever had. I always loved Hydra because of how compact it was and how visible it is from the walkways in the park. The layout is fun and quirky without having to be too fast or tall.
I wish the UK could've had a floorless coaster. Maybe Fantasy Island if they had the money at the time, seeing as the Odyssey would've made some profit a few years before
Agreed. There's technically only 6 actual elements that could claim to be an inversion if you count the two separate inversions that are in the cobra roll, however, this pov clearly shows that cobra roll not inverting the train.
@@vincentcappello4746Oh I would consider the cobra roll to be a double inversion, however its the first element after the drop that I dont consider to invert
Great POV! It's fantastic what B&M can cram into a terrain-hugging layout short enough that it doesn't require a MCBR. Hydra's arguably a better ride than Medusa, and Dorney's very fortunate to have it in their lineup.
If B&M could build looping coasters with only lap bars instead of the OTSRs then this is one that would become very cool with that set up. The drop and jojo roll would be fantastic, as would the other inversions. Also, imagine a clam shell restraint on a dive coaster. I think it would change the minds of a lot of enthusiasts to have those restraints.
Honestly, no. It seems like that model is done for. Parks that want a floorless seating set up are opting for dive coasters instead. Still floorless trains, but more of a drop, and still plenty of inversions. More marketable too.
Wouldn't be shocked if B&M creates a family floorless model, though. If the Surf model doesn't sell as well as expected, and the family wing only gets a handful of installations, they'll have to pivot to another family offering. A floorless take on a mine train would stand out.
They both have no floors yes, but Iron Menace is not a Floorless B&M. It is a B&M Dive coaster. The trains are different the drops are different. Should be different enough 😊👍
They're on opposite ends of the park, and Hydra's still a longer ride with more inversions. Iron Menace will work well as a themed replacement of Stinger, but I'm not sure as many guests will want to jump back in line for it. Hydra's great for re-rides.
I know B&M Floorless coasters are really old models of rides but I sure wish they still made them because they can all be unique like this and actually feel different than others.
You're thinking of their old Stand-Up coasters. They still make Floorless coasters, although they haven't made any with new track, most of the recent ones have been train swaps of older standups.
@@VestedUTuber The last stand-up that got converted to a floorless was in 2019 with Apocalypse/Firebird. The last Floorless coaster built was Hot Wheels Nitro in 2013.
@@maxhagenauer24 They'd probably need to modify the clamshells to accommodate shorter riders, but a family floorless train might look more like a hyper train. Just wouldn't need the aerodynamic nose car.
While it doesn't have any vertical loops, it does have one (arguably two) regular loops. First element is an inclined dive loop, and the helix at the end might be banked just enough to be considered a 70 degree inclined loop.
My one problem with this is it's a lot shakier up in the front compared to the back. I'm not quite sure why but up front the rattle is quite bad and in the back they really is none
What is the 7th inversion? There is the JoJo roll out of the gate. 1st corkscrew 2nd cork screw Batwing of 2 inversions And a final cork screw That’s 6
I think if I step back and rate it for what it is, its good. I just remember Hercules breaking the record by using the large hillside and figured Hydra would do the same. I was expecting a record breaker and was disappointed by it not being so. Now it is irrelevant because even at 200ft tall floorless wouldn't matter. All the original floorless coasters are pretty good, but all the conversions are terrible. And maybe in general that's what has soured me on the floorless.
7 inversions! I'm sorry but if Icon has only 1 inversion, this has 4 maybe 5 at best. Most of these elements DO NOT invert riders. I even clarified by watching several off-ride povs. You know it's okay to disagree with RCDB right? 😜 This coaster does NOT have 7 true inversions. 🙄

Favorite Floorless Coaster of ALL TIME!!!! 🎢🙌🙌
Best coaster at Dorney Park IMO. I got more airtime on the first drop in the back on this than anywhere on Steel Force.
I find this very underrated! I love this thing because of the terrain once again, proving you don’t need it to be huge to be great!
❤️🔥😈🤘
Ah yes. The B&M Floorless with the STAR PLATINUM ROLL at the beginning. ^^

the drop in the back row is surprising good for a b&m floorless
Easily my favorite B&M floorless! It's a lovably quirky ride and a departure from the norm for B&M, plus there's some killer airtime.
I love this ride so much ❤
Looks Sooo Fun Been Watching You For A Year Now!
Pretty unique layout. Think we'll ever get a regular ground up floor less in the states again?

Really hope B&M introduces a family floorless model soon. No OTS restraints, just a mine train with your feet flying over the track.
@brianfoss571 So like clamshell restraints? So B&M Hyper trains?

Did anyone else notice this has the same color scheme as Raptor at Cedar Point?
Alot of rides have the same color scheme as each other
There are only so many color combinations
I wonder if the larger ones are more intense.
I wish we had this instead of scream at six flags magic mountain

Dorney/RCDB counts the first element after the drop as an inversion. Definitely controversial, I still don’t know lol
@@coaster365 it’s an overbanked turn at best,
That’s like calling the treble cleft turn of Fury 325 an inversion

You got the inversion count wrong. It's 6. And barely that because this pov clearly shows at least one element on that cobra roll NOT inverting you
I’m really upset that this ride doesn’t have a vertical loop
Man, this could use like one more inversion.
Looked like 5 inversions to me, 6 if you count a possibly overbanked turn, couldn't work out the 7th
Jojo roll
Inclined dive loop (not really an inversion but they count it)
Zero g roll
Corkscrew
Cobra roll (counts as two)
