Like what's the goal I don't wanna sound like a troll but 😂 where where. You when everyone was trying to clap cheeks at arena 51 lol😂 really though it's amazing what your doing don't think anyone else is doing it imagine how many tanks you could salvage
I looked at that odd turret arrangement and thought "Oh! A bridge layer without the bridge bits!" Of course that guess was wrong. But it got me thinking that you need to track down a bridge layer with it's bridge, and get it working. 🙂
@@Cornish21Pasty if im not making a mistake, the autoloader was build(or built) on tank hull with tracks as well. Only problem it had was that the turret was to small or the turret whould have needed to be larger which they didnt want
Fascinating vehicle. Was going to say it could be a test mount for gun barrels during the clip. But was confirmed at the end. Love the knowledge and humour you guys have.
The turret floor is thick and the turret race teeth are chunky and so that indicates that they were expecting a lot of downward pressure and so I think this is the testbed for the Mk 4 Centurion, which was never put in to service, the 95mm CS (Close Support) Howitzer.

ROF mobile gun testing platform. Second pic gun looks to be an XL30 - later used on Challenger 2. First pic could be a 140mm experimental, probably from early 90s.
Yep must be a bridge layer with that great big pivot , think I saw one at engineers open day at Chatham barracks , my mates dad worked there as a civvy instructor, I also learned how to gas weld lumps of metal together on an open day ,the h&s boys would have a fit if kids were allowed to do that today !
@@Shoorit no I don't think so , the turret was removed or never fitted to the base vehicle , they had special attachments/rams to unfold & push the bridge over the gap to be crossed , I was taken in by the big pivot point .
You have heard of "Glamping" well this could be the opposite Perhaps an old caravan or workman's hut poorly secured on the top of the hull and allowed to blow into the wind so you have a truly crappy experience? or a good crane
That, or one very like it, used to live at Eskmeals. It could be fitted with a 4.5" naval gun, or any army gun barrel like 155mm or 203 mm/ 8", used for testing barrels made in Barrow.
First a good clean, as you said, after figured how to add as much possible hydraulic sistems, improve electric and electronic sistem, making it "smart",this can be done with not spending much, most of them in scrap yard ..good luck with your project..
I reckon your gonna fit some kind of open top seating arrangement so you can give more people a jolly at shows with fancy seats and little or no protection just sign this waiver and give me £20 for a trip round the farm or even at shows
The two of you were talking about the welds inside that tiny compartment. They probably didn't have any other process other than shielded metal arc welding at that time. I'm possibly wrong about that, though. I'll ask Google that question.
Just noticed you use WD-40 on hot bolts and such, that stuff is worthless for that, use beeswax instead. It doesn't vanish in a cloud of perfumery smoke and works its way down the threads to provide lube while the bolt or nut is still very hot.
It was marked DRA F/H which I would guess is Defense Research Agency Fort Halstead. That will give you a hint to where the vehicle may have been and in what time frame.
What is the project? Let me guess: The MoD have been mightily impressed with your projects and are going to donate 1 × BAE 4.5-inch Mk 8 naval gun off HMS Montrose being decommissioned in Portsmouth.
by looks of it - it were a big bang stick - oh there's an idea Jo, build an extra large pea shooter, with flames and stuff i been watching the lads at the Australian Tank Museum, they do a great job restoring etc, rebuilding bent up sides of tanks, made in steel of all silly thicknesses and i seen them welding the panels together, using both tick and mig, stainless steel wire, very cool, can't be cheap, just wondering if that's how you Centurion was built, no rusty dust on the welding? oh i can get all anoraky (not Iraqi) i just been watching vids of US naval guns, as you do, the barrels were very cleverly made in several parts so they could be re-sleeved later on when worn out, the were nicely balanced so they didn't require a huge ram to adjust the height at the rear, the bearing was a clever piece of kit in its self, a frictionless trunnion bearing each side, almost a floating bearing with a narrow space all round, 5" naval guns were supported from a centre point, on the trunnion bearing, its proper nice engineering if your into that sort of thing, you can find vids on the USS Texas ruclips.net/video/etyVNi0jMiE/видео.html will be an interesting project to sink your little teeth into, certainly keep you off the streets which is probably very wise
Is it going to have a 183mm gun on it? If it is, & there is still any 183mm HESH in an ammo store somewhere, the Ukrainians would definitely enjoy borrowing it for a few months...

Not much point in testing if a 140/120 would work if there's no turret to test and the hull is already tested with 183mm why not just have the mount on the concrete pad to begin with

Yep same thought as well.
Likely a fv4005 stage 2. The tank with a 183mm gun. Looking at that mount in the turret. And also he said one was made of it
Or even the Stage 1. It featured an autoloading system although, im pretty sure that one was on railway tracks instead of tank tracks.
@@Cornish21Pasty if im not making a mistake, the autoloader was build(or built) on tank hull with tracks as well. Only problem it had was that the turret was to small or the turret whould have needed to be larger which they didnt want
Not related to the 4005 project actually
Its the 140mm gun mount, used to test the 140mm Gun the Brits made and never ended up using
I thought he said he was going to make the only one of it?
Edited to add, Tankopaedia says none were made 🤷♂️.
Solely for testing a gun. Air ram and manual elevation connect to the bottom of the breech. Why'd they have to use a tank hull for it?
Bridge laying tank to show off with at the shows....you bloody legend!!!
Saw Crouchy coming through Walcote with that on the back while I was out in the Wolf. Knew it'd be heading your way lol. Looks solid

some kind of self propelled artillery piece, nice one

Scania V8 conversion into a mobile crane with a Palfinger jib (crane) on the turret rotator.
