- On the sixth day of commemoration hearings, Ahmed Elgwahry told the inquiry how he remained in touch with his 27-year-old sister, Mariem, and his mother, Eslah, as the fire engulfed the high-rise flats. With his voice occasionally overcome by emotion, Ahmed recalled how he had spent the evening before the fire with Mariem, until she returned to her home in Grenfell where she suffocated along with their mother, trapped by flames and smoke on the top floors of the building.

3 years on, and still this whole tragedy kills me to think about it. will we ever know the truth? how many died, why they died. Its just terrible.
He did speak out. I Will not forget your sister and mother and you . . .
This poor man, I would not wish this on my worst enemies, not only for his suffering, but for his family that had to slowly suffocate to death. In this day and age, fires in apartment building in developed countries, ARE COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE AND ARE CRIMINAL BCUZ THEY ALMOST ALWAYS HAPPEN DUE TO A SLUM LORD PINCHING EVERY DOLLAR THEY CAN.
My heart aches and I can't stop tearing up
This is terrible. So sorry for your loss, sir :'(
It's absolutely horrifying and life damaging hearing your own family suffering and dying. I feel so sorry for this poor man. I hope he's alright and getting the support and love he needs.
Coming up to four years and still emotions are very raw may they rest in peace 🙏
From America and this is just disgusting how government had these people living in such unsafe conditions. so preventable....rip to all victims..all housing should have sprinklers, alarms especially in a developed country. I feel sick just about the whole situation ....I cannot imagine how those directly affected feel.
America cannot judge british safety when after many gun massacres you're country still allows the public to possess firearms not to mention the ghettos which are killing zones. At least the Brita learn from these tragedies to make use it never happens again.
It was not because of safety issues. I was there. I caught a baby from the 3 floor
@@mrromeo6036 It's not a competition.
@@itseggzy8545 of course it is to scumbags like him!
@@mrromeo6036 you all got rid of guns however if I remember correctly now you all get bombed a lot or ran over . My point is if someone wants to cause harm, they’ll find a way. They’ll bomb , run over or chop one another up. Etc etc. We need people to be decent for any system to work.
I know this is old but I wish him all the best moving forward and I can’t imagine anyone going through such horrible losses 🙏🙏
Dear Mr. Ahmed Elgwahry, it is not only GB people feeling with you, we Germans do also.
Such a brave man to speak ♥️
How awful. Bless them.
My heart goes out to you, i hope you now get some justice and closure.
I still think of that terrible time and what they all went through. 😰
It so is torture for that man who had to go through that. x
this is heart breaking those poor people and the family's they left behind xx
Bro I just wna hug you 💔
Never forget. Never.
I didn't hear this in the news back then. Only knew about this tragedy today. I sympathize with those who lost their loved ones. From the Philippines
Crying 😭
wow. could not imagine what it would be like for this man and his loss. I pray for all the lives lost that night, all the people who lost family, friends and their home, and I pray for the grenfell community. I hope they get justice.
Worst thing I've ever heard :(((
May he get justice
The people responsible for this don't care about the pain and suffering they inflicted...your speaches were not done in vain though. You brought a voice and face of the murdered people to the general public.
Poor guy, how awful to hear. I'm not sure how anyone could ever recover from that....
How horrific😭😭
Still until today there is no justice for grenfell tower tragedy.
This still haunts me. May they rest in peace.
Bless u, love a Irishman hope u have or find more family, tear to my eyes, justice mus prevail. They don't care what get many people in as possible, when I young health and safety was a big thing, hardly hear word now, this will only happen unless thing done right, want s garden, whatever happened to places no selling without gardens, bank bought them, put needy in, u I'll never walk alone! Pray 4 u and justice, but No1 will probably pay like bankers nearly ruined Ireland, No1 brought to justice, only reason why, corruption could be only reason!
Bless him I would never wish this on my ex best friend I am sorry for your loss sir nobody deserves this to happen not even criminals
So much love mate
Miss you Mariam ❤️❤️
I hope you find out the truth about grenfell.
It's terrible. Brave man. +
Hope he get loads of money. It won't take the pain away but at least his sons and daughters can have a good life
Right? I hope the SLUMLORDS PAY!! I hope they loose everything like this poor man.
Dob tv why mention money ?
gi Man because he will get compensation
I’m late to this. However from America I send my sincere condolences to everyone involved. Our country lets us down just as much , if not worse. I understand, as much as one can, without actually being there and being a part of it all, 😞 the pain and struggles you’ve all had to endure . I would be lying if I said I know your pain and understand completely how you all feel, because that’s inaccurate and would be an insult to you all. With that said , I understand how you feel as far as deserving better and expecting more from city and country. I wish I was rich so that I could help anyone who still has no home. I wish I had the power to rewind the clock and save you all from this tragedy. I wish my arms were big enough to reach across the pond and give you all a huge hug and say how sorry I truly am. 😞. We would think living in such great countries and paying our dues, that this wouldn’t be happening still. Unfortunately we’re all human and humans will always make these types of mistakes, I fear so anyways. I hope everyone is doing as well as one can to this day and onward. I’ve suffered tragic loss over last two years and lost most of my family so I do understand that void and hole where something and someone is missing. May we all heal as each new day approaches, just a little more, each time.
R.i.p to all the people who didnt survive, and im so so sorry to all familys and friends.may god be with all of you now.xxxxxxxxx😢😢😢😢
This hurts bad......😭😭😭😭😭😩😥😞😢😢😩😟😦
Poor man. Really? Disgraceful.
I can't imagine :(
i remember every summer holiday me and my family went to london to meet my grandma and grandpa and we also went to town and sour the burnt tower every day
Another needless tragedy.... it's not rocket science... regulate either removal of that poisonous cladding or install sprinklers in high rise buildings.... cutting corners takes lives
It’s a huge process unfortunately as someone who lives in a flat with this cladding. It has finally been changed but now they don’t like the wooden parts of the building. No one has been able to sell flats for 4 years pretty much. It’s a lot of red tape a bureaucracy really that drags these things out. We’ve had to collaborate to pay lawyers to help draft letters. No one rly wants to be responsible for it and it’s a battle to make someone. The government stepped up and paid for the grenfell one but the wooden one they now don’t like just drags on and on and on. We also had no sprinklers or proper fire alarms and so we have had waking watch walk around every hour at residents cost. Of course the initial tragedy is the real tragedy but this stuff is still dragging on and affecting a lot of ppl.
@@lilithdevonrex I'm so very sorry, and angry for you. I know such massive renovations can't happen in one day, but I hope it gets done soon.
all because somebody's fridge exploded😭💕🙏
All because a company decided to cut costs and put up a cladding that burns like petroleum to make the building pretty to look at while ignoring tenants asking for fire alarms, sprinklers, more than one emergency staircase, ventilation systems in case of fires, etc*
There, I fixed it. If it hadn't been that fridge, it could've been a cigarette, an oven or a candle. Who knows. This fire was just waiting to happen.
@@ykMMD true but it was the fridge that exploded in that situation thats why i was talking ab that.
@@patriciaowusu-antwi6197 yh but if the chelsea and Kensington Council actually tested there cladding, it wouldn't of been a fire like thism
I can’t imagine !
This is the hardest thing one can go through, wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy 🙏🏽😓. Heartbreaking that there's still no justice!
Lord have mercy on all the victims that had to face this. If this was done on purpose, only the Lord knows!
I don't like the fact that they make people say their stories to the public it's so sad why do they do this? 💚💚💚
Damn :(
😭😭😭😭
Well said they are criminals
💚💚🙏
I understand him, this happened in one of the world's richest countries, don't tell me authorities and institutions couldn't done better to secure those buildings. He lost his immediate family in an awful way, his sister so young... And he possibly got PTSD and lifelong trauma.
😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😭😭😭😭😭
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Wow very tragic for these people.
Let’s hope these people get all the money they are trying to get. Keep pushing the fact that it was murder and maybe they will get millions and brand new houses.
Allah’u Akbar
Im so sorry for his loss but people need to not move on and forget but move forward and stay strong so sad tho😔😔❤
Rosanna Clarke the thing is they can't move on it has mentally and physically affected them for life
Put yourself in their feet...
Rosanna Clarke I understand your message is one of positivity but this should never have happened so it’s not that easy for them to do that!
