  • Here's another video about cultural differences and culture shock here in Ecuador. In this one I talk about public urination. It's really common, and for some of you this kind of thing might be a deal breaker in terms of living here. In this video I talk about a few particularly memorable examples of situations I've witnessed.
I hope you enjoy this video! If you do and you want to buy me a coffee I would absolutely love that! You can do that at this link here:www.buymeacoffee.com/Alveys_i...

We'll be experiencing it ourselves soon. Be in Ecuador the last week of October for three weeks. Visiting Loja, Cuenca, Vilcabamba, Banos and possibly Cotacachi.

Gosh, I was hoping for video and artistic photography of public urination... No seriously, I think Europeans are also very casual about public urination. Maybe it's a homeless people kind of problem there and in the USA. I guess it's comforting to know that if I really gotta go, I can anywhere in Ecuador.

When I first moved to Ecuador i thought the grates in the street were for rain run off. Boy was I wrong. 😅

With the comment about men urinating after leaving the Church service's, the way you described it, "Approximately 10 men crossing the street to urinate on the wall", reminds my of the possibility of 10 fellow prison inmates doing the same! Probably a memory from a movie! 😂😂

Lol! After two years, I don’t even notice the guys peeing in public anymore. But the one incident I just couldn’t believe was during Carnaval our first year. There were Carnaval events happening in Jipiro Park, many of which were for children, and the park was packed to the gills with people. We’d been walking on the sendero north of the park, and as we entered the park we saw a guy with pants around his ankles squatting to rake a dump beside a tiny little bush by the river. He wasn’t obscured by this tiny little bush one little bit!

That was informative and funny 😂😂😂
I’ve seen this happen a lot but less in the more recent years. It is ironic that when you mentioned that you were going to talk about it in your bus video I saw it happen close to where a friend of mine works, and that’s a pretty busy area. There was a time (not sure if still) where guys would get next to cars (not even their own) and urinate on the tires.
What I find to be the most normal explanation is that since people aren’t allowed to use restrooms in stores or restaurants without buying something, they tend to do this. The lack of public restrooms definitely doesn’t help this situation out at all. The final factor, and most unfortunate, is the fact that they’ve seen it happen all their life so people think it’s ok. Your church story is the perfect example of this. If kids see this happen AT CHURCH then they’re gonna assume it’s alright to do it anywhere. It’s unfortunate but you know, all we can do is report on it and NOT urinate out on the streets lol
Great job talking about this, it’s one of those things that while you don’t always see it, you will probably end up seeing it here 😅

Thanks mate! I'm glad you found it entertaining :) As always I appreciate your thoughts. I agree, lack of public bathrooms is an issue than I too have struggled with while walking or riding around Loja. And yes, it's been normalized for sure. The one situation I described that still baffles me is the last one where I talked about the well-dressed man peeing on his own tire before he went into his friends place. I don't think I will ever understand that. I'm sure he could have waited till he was inside and used his friend's bathroom, but he didn't. Anyway man, I appreciate that you watch my videos and thanks again for sharing the bus video, it did get a bunch more views after you did that. I owe you! Cheers!

@@Alvey_en_Ecuador , I think the older well dressed gentleman might of been "Marking his car (similar to dog's marking their territory). I think it's an " Alpha" thing to do! Oh and trust me I've seriously thought about "copping a squat" myself as us Southern Gals say, however because I've never seen a woman do that here, I've been rather reculate, but who knows I might find myself someday in a situation where I don't have a choice! 🤔😶‍🌫️

Never buy anything near public transport. As soon as they get off the bus they urinate right away!

As a Lojan myself I can confirm we are the filthier province, though public urination is socially accpted all across the country. Gross.

Hi, thank you for covering a not very comfortable subject, something other people have decided to turn around their heads -no blame on them- but despite it has become a "cultural problem" that is nothing to ignore, defend or be proud of.
Part of the problem is the lack of public restrooms, for example that church you mention in your story, may not have any accessible bathrooms for the community they serve. The population of Loja had grown exponentially in the past decades, aggravating this problem. Often parents allow toddlers to just use the green spaces to pee, reinforcing this "acceptance" of public urination.

Thank you for your comments, I appreciate it. You bring up a good point about public bathrooms. I'm sure the lack of them makes this problem worse. Cheers for watching!

Thank you for bringing it to our attention. Put down the Koolaide, you are not in USA, Canada or Australia. You are in a different country that really doesn't care about your opinion. Some of your videos are off the wall. It's not your home country. Get used to it. Como es su Español?

    • @Alvey_en_Ecuador
      @Alvey_en_Ecuador  10 месяцев назад +3

Haha, i think you missed my point entirely. I know very well they don't care about my opinion. I have said many times I'm an immigrant here and i can't change their culture. I'm just letting other people know what the reality of life is like here. There are a lot of youtubers who portray this place as paradise, which is a little misleading. Anyway, thanks for watching! Also, you know you don't have to watch my videos, right? Cheers mate!
