Odds are she was a human imprint gosling that was abandoned by her humans at some point. I lost my 23 yr. old white chinese gander "Marwyn", a year ago Nov. He was a rescue from a local wildlife group that didn't handle domestics and as a volunteer with other geese I adopted him as an estimated, week old gosling. He was my constant companion for all those years, always preferring my company over my other geese. Geese are incredibly smart, easily learn their names, simple commands and phrases They also have amazing long term memories and when raised from goslings bond with you as much or more than a dog or any other animal.
I’ve met a lot of geese this friendly at the golf course and lake. They let me pick them up and pet their necks. Unlike the ducks who just waddle away. Feral geese are friendly because of wanting food handouts.
Am sorry for your loss. I didn't know until this video that geese could do this, they often have a bad rep, I guess that's geese that are wild, not human raised. You were blessed to have such a wonderful companion.
I pray that these two sweethearts are the best of friends for many years to come I'm not sure how long the goose will live for but I do hope it's a long time and these two precious souls stays friends till the goose gets very old and dies of old age bless both thier hearts 💕

But here's what I know: ALL types of animals that domesticate well can be found to be loyal protectors of their human family. I've seen dogs, cats, rats, donkeys, pigs, cows, crows- you name it! I wonder if Gambo lost her family and went looking for another one? She will have created wonderful memories for this little girl and her family, brought a lot of happiness. A wonderful story.
Most likely, this is a young brown chinese goose, a domestic breed. She most likely was bought as a gosling at a feed store and abandoned at the local pond. Unfortunatly this is a common practice because many don’t realize that domestic geese are poor flyers if they can fly at all, and they also have higher nutritional needs than wild geese, as a result most geese abandoned at ponds starve. Gumbo was lucky to have found a family willing to take her in.

That goose was dumped by someone. She used to be someone's pet, you can see that. I am so happy she found a loving family and forever home. People/a little girl who really care about her.

Domestic geese can be very sweet if they imprint on humans when they're young. And some are like my cousins' pet goose, who broke my uncle's arm. (Geese are good judges of character. My uncle was not that good of a man.)
LOL another Canuck here, can confirm ... Canada geese are NOT typically friendly. I've heard it said that's where all our natural hostility went, so all that's left is kindness (heh). I've also met a domestic goose up here who just LOVED to hiss and puff and be as intimidating as he could. Silly fellow. This is such a sweet goose!

Typically, I leave the video gushing over the animals. But this little girl has to be sweetest, friendliest, happiest, and most adorable child I have ever seen. To be quite frank, I can't stand most kids. Usually, I have a genuine hxte for them. But she has melted my cold heart, lol. And that goose knows it, too. Like a sixth sense. I just can't imagine a goose, former civilized domesticated pet or not, letting most people so close. Geese are basically koalas if they were waterfowl, but not smooth-brained and loaded with chlamydia. Edit: I just hope that sweet and adorable kid isn't too friendly with and/or super trustworthy of other PEOPLE. I pray she is aware of "Stranger Danger."

That's so cute. Probably a goose that was released by their owner after incubation. I live across the street from a pond and fished there nearly everyday for hours. A couple would come and introduce their two geese to the other ducks/geese and finally asked me if I could feed their geese daily. They dropped off huge bags of seed on my front porch. They figured out where I live and before school they would be waiting on my patio. I also taught them how to fly. I would just run away from them and they would chase me and one day they just took flight. I will never forget this my whole life. I wish I knew how cool it actually was looking back at it.
Always so funny when an animal shows up somewhere and goes "I live here now" and all the humans just go "Yeah, fair enough, welcome home."

That goose is probably more fiercely protective of that child than a dog would be. Really sweet relationship they have.
I've seen videos of dogs fighting with absolute ferocity to protect their humans.

I had a goose named Pecker when I was younger and she was so sweet and nice to me. Watching this brings back memories and thank you for that❤
