This is a seabright. Beautiful birds. One of the only chickens that can actually fly for a period of time. Raised 3 as a kid and they used to fly up into our sycamore trees
Might be shocking to hear, but all chickens fly (except those poor meat breeds the factory farms raise who’s legs crush under their unnaturally heavy weight) Always a sight when we open up our coop after they had to be, well, cooped up during a storm, 60 birds of myriad colors (because we get random breeds depending on what we want at the time) launch themselves and fly through the air, always at least one chicken who decides to show off and fly all the way to the house, but sometimes it’s 2-5 of them. It’s all based on how each chicken feels. If they feel like flying, they’ll launch and fly and you won’t catch them until they land. Usually, the ground is much more comfy and they’re all lazy. But still, the initial flight is always lovely :)
My folks somehow ended up with a Silver Seabright in their shipment of Isa Brown chicks, and she pretty much had the same pet-like mannerisms this guy has. The Isas were our egg layers. Sterling, she was our pet. She was teeny tiny, and loved to perch on our shoulders whenever we were around.
My sisters and family moved and the house basically came with a cat. They love him now but he just kept on inviting himself in bc he use to live there. Previous owners tried to take him but he would just find his way back to his house!
Yep! A stray cat picked me and my hubby and we made him a bed and use an old pet carrier and an old towel we put in so he has a warm and dry place to sleep on the front porch and we give him food and fresh water, he likes being petted and picked up, and he meows when he see's us, he's been around for over a year and named him Scotty. And judging by the size of the rocks on her finger and how they made their house rustic with modern amenities, they’re doing quite well for themselves.
The look in the dog's face, "I was set, I was the favorite here, then you showed up and now all I hear is 'chicken this and chicken that'. And you're constantly egging me on."

I didn't recognise the breed, but he's clearly a bantam. For those who don't know: Bantams are miniature versions of the regular size chicken breeds. It's a fancy way to say ''dwarf chicken''.
Ronnie's thinking to himself, "This is the biggest chicken coop I've ever seen. It even comes with servants! This must be for chicken royalty and that means it's for me." I'm glad you answered the poop question. It did cross my mind.
Mine too. But he seems like a good guest in that he knows not to poop where his bread is buttered. Smart animal. Maybe he learned his lesson from his previous residence. They probably screamed at him and put him outside, so he had some deep reflection, made changes, and found a new home.
Honestly, chickens can be super friendly. I used to petsit a group of four chickens. They were spoiled rotten. Had the run of the yard during the day and went in the coop at night. They were allowed inside when the owners were home. The vast majority of the time I spent there, I had a chicken in my lap or on my shoulder. There was one who even laid eggs in my lap. I miss those feathered ladies.
That's my chicken's too. I had an Orpington who was totally spoiled. She loved to sit on laps. Would never poop on laps or anything like that. She would jump down off my lap to poop and then come back. She would also steal food off my plate and she loved to drink as well. I would never let her have more than a sip if she got her head into my wine glass (She was quick!) but she was a food and drink thief! XD Lived for 5 years before a racoon got her :(
That rooster was someone's hand raised pet rooster for sure. Maybe someone got tired of the 430am crowing and took him for a one way ride. Glad he found a new family.
We have several roosters in our neighborhood, and the early morning crowing is a bit much. During the winter or summer, we can keep the windows closed and that pretty much solves the crowing noise problem, but spring and fall the windows are open all night, and every morning they wake the whole area up bright and early.
Ronnie is so blessed to have found you. So many roosters don't get to live their lives as they are noisy, don't lay eggs and can be aggressive so they are put down at an early age. Thank you for giving this little rooster the absolute best life possible ❤
That is a beautiful rooster. Seems like he was already familiar w humans and houses, maybe he was someone's pet that escaped for an epic adventure and a new life.
The guy has a great sense of humor. "Here's where you go the bathroom, the shower's in there and I'm pretty sure I can find somethin' to fit you in my closet." 🤪😂

In my opinion, your rooster may be a Seabrite mixed with a Serama. He has the Seabrite color pattern with the droopy wings of the Serama. They are very affectionate and love attention... :)
I think it's a pure sebright. The wings don't droop as much plus his color isn't mixed and still has a rose comb. I don't see any serama in this bird's posture which is very upright, some have very full breasts and exagerated postures. I own a serama. I could be wrong though :)
@@sonofromel I have both breeds and IMO that's my assessment. I could be wrong and I am not trying to win an award for my opinion, so it's just my opinion ;)
@@timallbritton3716 pardon me, sir. I didn't mean it like that. I think we have common ground. Like I said I could be wrong, big time. And I think you are more credible since you have both. Holy Smokes, his feathers are so beautiful. At some angles he looked painted. I can see how pheasants and our domesticated "chickens" are related. Beautiful family picture at the end as well.
This is a bantam breed called a Brown Sebright Rooster. They also come in Silver (White). Such a gorgeous breed, I love them. Their feathers are tinted with black on the edges. A bantam chicken is a miniature version of a regular chicken. Ronnie is so sweet and affectionate! He is used to a chicken coop for protection from aerial predators like hawks. I'm glad you built him one. They also like to roost on branches. Keep that coop open during the day so he can run inside if needed. I would plant some bushes around for cover. Having jet black chickens will dissuade hawks, as they think they are crows. Crows harass hawks and owls to chase them off. Be sure he has access to dirt, as chickens need grit to grind their grains.
I loved when he said “it’s Ronnie’s world and we’re just living in it”. I also loved the expression on the dogs face when he was looking at the rooster. His face just looks like wtf!?! 😂

You can tell he’s still a baby cause of the way he crows. Beautiful blue legs. You still have him?
Ronnie's thinking to himself, "This is the biggest chicken coop I've ever seen. It even comes with servants! This must be for chicken royalty and that means it's for me." I'm glad you answered the poop question. It did cross my mind.
Mine too. But he seems like a good guest in that he knows not to poop where his bread is buttered. Smart animal. Maybe he learned his lesson from his previous residence. They probably screamed at him and put him outside, so he had some deep reflection, made changes, and found a new home.
Stfu idiot
Honestly, chickens can be super friendly. I used to petsit a group of four chickens. They were spoiled rotten. Had the run of the yard during the day and went in the coop at night. They were allowed inside when the owners were home. The vast majority of the time I spent there, I had a chicken in my lap or on my shoulder. There was one who even laid eggs in my lap. I miss those feathered ladies.
Oh Lord, you pet-sitting chickens was one freaking awesome experience!
Laying an egg in your lap!! Wow, that's trusting!!

Or maybe they passed away. And the family got rid of him.
We have several roosters in our neighborhood, and the early morning crowing is a bit much. During the winter or summer, we can keep the windows closed and that pretty much solves the crowing noise problem, but spring and fall the windows are open all night, and every morning they wake the whole area up bright and early.

In my opinion, your rooster may be a Seabrite mixed with a Serama. He has the Seabrite color pattern with the droopy wings of the Serama. They are very affectionate and love attention... :)
Thank you for sharing this, I was wondering!
Aww
I think it's a pure sebright. The wings don't droop as much plus his color isn't mixed and still has a rose comb. I don't see any serama in this bird's posture which is very upright, some have very full breasts and exagerated postures. I own a serama.

Or keep him inside unless they are out. I think that is what Ronnie prefers anyway.
