Every invention can just be boiled down to "physics". If it was so obvious, why was there someone that did it first? BTW - have you done the claim analysis on the Independent claims to see what the patent ACTUALLY claims? IT IS NOT a patent for a balanced trap bar -> it is a patent for balancing a trap bar in a very specific way. Read the claims and you can easily find several ways to design around the claims so as to not infringe and still have a balancing trap bar (simple one: Rep uses a trap bar with parts that are "not integral" aka their changeable handles is one way to design around the patent that exists).
@@path4061 Well I was going off coop’s extremely broad description of the patent in the video. Probably should have known not to take that at face value…
I agree with the op. The ability to patent “weight distribution” is WILD. Like imagine that in other realms. Henry Ford patents “cars that don’t tip over when stationary”. lol
Me too lol. I bought the Walmart $109 trap bar $120 shipped works fine. But they tried to discourage people from buying it because the maximum weight load was not $1,000 lb. They tested the bar and it bent at 800 lb,,, but who's lifting 800 llb....?? Stupid shit that shouldn't stop you from buying it.
I love my Gugngir Allrounder and Dumblers... they rock. Another good idea for them is to make sleeve replacements so you can remove the sleeve of your current barbell and put their sleeve on it instead

Coop - things to review: Shogun Flex - need a travel option and this looks promising; Jacked Up Fitness Pro Rack; Force USA C series with sliding bench; and Rogue Donkey. All of these would be great.
I don’t get why so many people want ratckable trap bars personally I only use them for dead lifting and I wanted to take up this little space as possible. Are people really using these for back squats and presses?
@ I’m not saying you couldn’t use it for that or a safety bar for squatting, I’m saying it would be so awkward you probably wouldn’t. Maybe I’m wrong but I have the giant open trap and it is really nice for shrugs and deadlifts and that is about it.
I use the rep one more for camber bar good mornings/squats than I use it for deadlifts. Rackable trap bars are nice. Pressing them is fun even if it’s mostly just a novelty
Instead of making plates that lock you into an ecosystem (which I hate!), why not come out with a series of stainless steel washers in different thicknesses that fit over the sleeves and fill the tiny bit of space between the plate and the locking mechanism? They could basically have 1,2, and 4 mil thicknesses, which would allow you to mix and match and achieve 1-7 mils, and these wouldn't have to weigh very much. (add an 8 ml thick washer to get 8-15 mils). Overall, though it's by far the most aesthetic bar, the fact that it isn't rackable and isn't comfortable to use as a cambered bar means that it isn't the bar for me. I don't find collars that annoying. It's much more important that I can rack the bar so I can start at the right height for me. And because I want that feature, having a balanced bar is also pretty important. (Seems very weird that the idea of balancing a bar can be copyrighted.)
Couldn't you just put a neoprene or rubber washer on there to push it against the collar? Is there something I'm missing with a trap bar that you don't want the weight snug on there?
"why not come out with a series of stainless steel washers in different thicknesses that fit over the sleeves and fill the tiny bit" Why not use a regular collar then? If a collar is easy to lose, a bunch of little washers has got to be even more so.
@@paulnorman8274 very true. Personally, I'd rather use a collar. This was just a suggestion in lieu of making an entire range of weight plates. But I like other suggestions about a squishy silicone ring even better.
GIANT Northland is indeed S tier, I always thought it was 45# but I ran to my basement to note that it is 48#. Also, these bars are not designed to be dropped
I own the REP OTB and love it. I do have the duel handles installed, so the total weight is just under 75lbs. The additional weight is not an issue at all. Most folks are deadlifting 2x their body weight so 45lbs or 75lbs is irrelevant to me. Also, I absolutely love REP’s bar. Can’t beat it for the price IMO. Thanks so much for the great review.
As Coop stated: It's targeted at commercial gyms. Trap bars on the floor or up against a wall, are even more likely to have their collars walk away, than bars which live in a rack. And: Not rackable, and with fairly narrow spacing between grips, means it take-up less space. Always nice for a floor bound bar in a crowded gym. A possible rackable V2, would have benefits, but also tradeoffs. Perhaps especially in a more single use commercial setting.
re: balance...maybe add neodymium magnets to the side of the handles facing the rounded bar...could add them to the bar itself, but would probably stick better to the flat handle mount.
Even with high quality (competition style) plates? Their bars are hopeless with sloppy pressed in centers and high tolerance cheapo plates. But, while still not ideal, less problematic with tight tolerance competition plates. It's all very Northern European, in the assumption that costs don't matter.... In the US, if one plans on living anywhere "permanently", there's not much savings even over buying a whole wall of regular cast dumbbells.. Which are surely a better experience than any handles+collars+plates, no matter how fancy.

Instead of perfectly sized plates they could sell a compressible rubber pad for the inside that keeps constant tension pushing out at the clip. Where you have to push in before setting the clip down.
disconnecting sleeves really weaken the rigidity. I prefer a barbell without disconnecting sleeves for my safety. The trap bar looks awesome. I'm waiting for their all rounder barbell to be stainless steel for my next purchase.
Hey I have the rouge 2.0 trap bar but it’s loud as hell when I tap the floor and then the clamps I have don’t fit but a centimeter so the weights shift. Any solutions ?
As far as I know, the grooved sleeve design was developed by the Russians over a half-decade ago. A gym I trained at in the 70s had one. Later, Eleiko introduced a version. Even without a collar, the plates would not slide much.
i like gungnir very much and think they make some tremendous bars, BUT... their prices are pretty outrageous and they don't play in many bar categories. how hard would it be for them to make a c-70s competitor (rackable short bar)? or a deadlift bar? or a (fill in the blank)? too few products at too high prices
The forces on it could be very high during a drop. Necessitating very firm rubber, at a minimum. Which would make it hard to press the small titanium "collar" against the plate. Not to mention wear on the rubber piece over time. Titanium is ideal, as it lasts for near ever with negligible wear. A competition collar style spinlock compressing against the plates, from the inside, built into the sleeve, would probably technically work to get rid of slop while preserving the "no collar to lose" USP of the bar. But it would no longer be all that quick and simple to use. Not to mention the cost of machining such a complex set of interlocking pieces in Scandinavia, while keeping the weight of the bar to 20KG etc. For home gyms with only one or a few bars in a tight space, using actual collars is not really a problem. But in commercial facilities, especially ones used by people who lift heavier: Always having collars right with the bar, guaranteed, which fit plenty close enough for racked lifts, is a solid selling point. It sounds like Gungnir is focusing their marketing on commercial accounts, probably for good reason. Doesn't mean they can be great for home use. But their main advantage is probably better appreciated in commercial settings. Where their price point is less of a concern as well.
@marvellstarks2434 Honestly, rep looks better to me, costs less, and is more functional. Comparing a bar to a woman is hilariously beta. Maybe a good-looking bar is just what you need. Good luck with the mating rituals
