Our family farm is only about 20 minutes from the New. Smallmouth is my passion but the New is world class for Walleye and Musky too. I sure hope there are wiley ol’ strains of mountain river bronzeback bass in Heaven too :)
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, Neither have entered into the heart of man, The things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
How this channel only has 14k subs is a crime. This place, like Wild Fly Productions has some of the best editing. This is like a feature film. Keep up this great content that I love to live vicariously through!
Nice river guys... I'm a Smallmouth fisherman from Michigan. In warm weather I throw topwater almost exclusively, and get ready for the air show! Whopper Ploppers being my favorite!( Clear water, Pack Man 90 size, stained water Perch color). They are agressive and fiesty! Great day! Almost forgot... your farther south. Big ones up here are usually caught in the Fall/ early winter. They are bulking up for winter....get out there! They'll be busting up Shad and minnows in the shallows, throw your topwaters at them!
I live in Mid-Tennessee and smallies smack here not to mention Tennessee holds the world record only been in Tennessee for 2 years only been fishing smallies since I moved here and boy oh boy I've hooked and landed some brutes my new passion is strongjaw fishing my pb is 5lbs just around 22-23"... Great upload #tightlines #bronzeback #smallmouthbass #strongjaw..🐟🎣
Man...y'all gotta come to the north. The excitement you guys have about 4 pound river smallies. That's how our 3 pounders fight. When you fish a good river, you'll be shaking for 10 minutes after landing a 6 pound smallie.
Great video and editing to watch! I’m from upstate NY and first year or few months of bass fishing usually just cast a worm and wait. Didn’t realize how lucky we are here. But that adventure there is something I’d look forward to. Well done guys
Dang that’s a giant! Nice job man. Glad you enjoyed the vid. We’re doing some fly fishing for smallies this weekend. Should make for another sick video
Just came upon the video, nice stuff. I've been to the New near NC/VA border, but barely got to fish it. I'm from PA and we have some awesome Smallie rivers, but there's something about those southern rivers that get my attention. Wondering what campground you stayed at?
The new river has some pretty big small mouths than many people think, I say this because I grew up fishing miles and miles of this river. I live in Giles County about 20 min from the wv line. The fish he caught that he compared to only catching that big of fish up north is not accurate, this river holds some very nice Smallies. Not trying to sound like a ass lol. Thanks for the footage and glad y’all enjoyed your selfs. Keep on rippin lips 👌🏻
Man the new river is a highly underrated small mouth fishery when its on i belueve its on par with every great fishery in the nation. Not uncommon for our tournaments to be won with 17 to 21 pound sacks of brownies
Some say like Largemouth, there are also different strains of smallmouth. I’m not a biologist and honestly don’t know. But, I think smallmouth fishing as far as size goes, the south is still king. From VA to KY, TN, AR to TX and everywhere in between. I think it’s just over shadowed by the largemouth fishing. Maybe I’m wrong. Either way, excellent video!
Honestly we agree. The more we’ve talked to people who fish for them, the more we realize just how great southern smallie fishing is. We’re filming a few fly fishing for smallie videos soon, so definitely stay tuned for those. Glad you enjoyed the vid!
Since I lived in the State of Tn my whole life. Smallies are way bigger than most people expect. My personal best is 6lb 9 oz and have a friend that caught one along time ago that is over 8 lbs good luck
Ive caught smallies over 2 1/2 pounds in creeks here in west virgina. Creeks that were 10 feet wide and knee deep. But im still chasing the one over 20 inches.
Them fish are commmon really in va west Va and ky we have some true great fishing. I’ve hit 5 in a month and half wading that’s been over 20 inches!! One 5lb fish!
2 1/2-3 is big? Mohawk River NY , the smallest i csufht all year was a 1.68, second smallest was a 2.22… my average through the spring-fall season was over 3.55. 50 over 4, a few 5s, 100s of 3s and high 3s, a pair of 6+.. and I never had to travel, these were all caught in a 300-400yard area, everyday it produced
Next time I've got an amazing float for you about 100 miles north on the South Branch of the Potomac.....it's the same clear water with big smallies... 3 4 5 lbs
I live by a river that is stacked full of smallies you can spend two days without seeing so much as one house. It's rare to see another fisherman but you will catch 100 bass everyday!
The scenery is beautiful and so are the fish I just moved to Richmond VA a few years ago and been waiting to fish the New Rive for muskies. I fish the upper James river a lot and it looks just like the new river I think it runs into the James river. But if you want to catch a Smalley of a life time you should try the great lakes I lived in Cleveland Ohio most of my life and I have had days when I catch 60 plus Smalley's and most of them are 5 to 6 pounds a couple are pushing 7 pounds. When they are spawning you can catch one every cast with a live crawfish as bait. I have finished from NY to FL and the great lakes is the best place to get a trophy Smalley.
Fishing in a river that routinuely produces 5 lbs smallmouth: "That's a GIANT smallmouth big, big, big for here." = 2 lbs. Proceed to catch an almost 5 lbser. You don't have to overhype the New. World class river.
It's a misconception that large smallies can't be found in the south. The world record smallie was caught on the KY/TN border. I'm guessing the idea comes from anglers in the far south, where largemouth are the largest in the country, the smallies aren't very big and there are no other states to the south. So to these guys, yes you have to go north to find big smallies.
We appreciate you stopping by. Hope we didn’t bore you with the talking, and that you found the fishing action worth your time. Thanks again for visiting the channel. More awesome fishing vids to come 🤙🏻
Well WV is considered a South Eastern state. However the name is more about the fact that the best Small Mouth fishing is typically considered far North.
@@SlabDynasty They can say they are a southern state all they want, doesn't make it true. LA, ARK, TN, MS, AL, GA, FL, SC, just the boarder of NC and east Texas only. WV might as well be southern Canada. Mizzu is under consideration but Kentucky can forget it. LOL. Great video though, got the sub from me. I like how you guys go after a wide variety of fish in different types of fisheries. I've lived all over the country, including the deep south so I love getting after all kinds of fish wherever they swim.
Thanks for the feedback glad we didn’t lose you completely lol. We are hoping to get back after it soon so we can explore even more places and target new species.
SO SICK! Just found this series
Thanks man yeah it’s an amazing fishery well worth the trip
Come on down anytime y'all

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

"Our smallest are stronger than your smallies!" Sorry, but no. Smallies fight like Smallies in the north and in the south.
Fished there for the first time a few weeks back. Definitely going back for a few camping trips this spring and summer
Awesome video and amazing editing and footage!!!!
Thank you sir!
This was a great vid makes me want to jump in the truck and head there now great content guys 🔥🔥🎣🤙🏽

Great video my guys
Thank you!
The size of smallmouth I’ve seen in the new River, is absolutely amazing. I’ve had a 7pounder hooked, in Radford va.
This is the best smallie video I've ever watched! Thanks for the content! Y'all ever fish Missouri?
We haven’t yet, but were definitely planning on expanding our smallie territory.
Love the filming keep it up guys
Great job, love this video! I hope to be able to travel soon and get on a smallmouth!
Highly recommend the New River!

The Saskatchewan
This video is awesome thanks for this
I'm looking to a trip in late August, this section looks like the one to fish. What camp site did you stay at?

Wow, I just saw that 4.8 pounder at the end

King William Bridge. Good spots there.

How long was that trip?
This was day 1 of a 2 day trip. The float itself was morning to evening

Vid quality is insane. What big camera and lens you use to shoot most of the nongropro scenes?
Sony a7c with a sigma 24-70 and a Sony a7iii with an 85 mil

Yeah the New has definitely been down a bit for the last several months. I'm only about 5 minutes from several docks!
It seems to fish better when the water is low. Is that true?
This looks like Little River Dam, that right side is mud.
Nice vid. You guys should measure the smallies. Weigh if really big.
