    No list of Sci-Fi anime is complete without Planetes, Cowboy Bebop, and most importantly Legends of the Galactic heroes. I've seen many people discuss Bebop, some people discuss Planetes, but rarely LotGH. Great picks though, happy to see you back!
    Edit: Special mention for great Mecha that no-one has watched goes to Armored Trooper Votoms.

      I'd say 08th MS Team is more of a war drama than sci-fi. If it didn't have Gundams in it, it would be no different than a war movie. In fact, all Gundam series are pretty much political/war dramas with mechs that happen in space for the most part.

    Yea...no. Clickbait title be clickbaiting. I hate to rip on Eva and TTGL because I also love these shows, but they have not redefined the genre at all. They are also not decontructions in spite of how commonplace that notion is. They are simply love letters to what came before. They are familiar flavors that came before with their creators' own little twists to the formula. For example, before Shinji, we had Getter's Ryoma and Gundam 0079's Amuro. Both experienced tragety after tragety and had moments where they just shut down completely and/or walked away from their respective conflicts. Sound familiar? Want organic/conscious mecha? Getter, Escaflowne, and Brain Powerd to name a few. Need some extra WTF sprinkled at the end? Ideon and Big O would like a word. Body count? Whatever Tomino got his bloody hands on.
    Make no mistake. Eva and TTGL are wonderful shows and great introductions for modern audiences. But "changed the rule book"? Not in the slightest.

    I’m sorry, but any list that has Stains gate on it, I just can’t take it seriously. Stain’s Gate is literally the worst anime I’ve ever watched. It insults you to the fact that you watch 10 episodes of it and nothing happens in those 10 episodes. Maybe the sluggishness wouldn’t have bothered me to much if the characters were actually interesting and good, but nope they’re insufferably annoying. I did enjoy TTGL though, that one I do recommend, even though it’s more of a fantasy mecha anime.

    • @oliverfalco7060
      @oliverfalco7060 2 года назад

      I really understand this comment as someone that had also a hard time going through Stains Gate, as it really isn't the kind of stories I like. But despite that, I have to say I ended up liking it and embracing the story with all of the flaws it has. Maybe it was the way the show played with my expectations, the fact that the impactful moments you get are not achieve through visual action but mere narrative... The characters are weird yeah, the chapters are boring but the story it's trying to tell has something special for me that it's hard to defend. Again I agree with you, and I think people recommend it more than what they should, I think it's easy not to like this show... But to me it was worth watching, so yeah... I just wanted to express my point of view

      People really don't realize how obvertly similar Shinji is to someone like Amuro, yet he's used as this bastion of "deconstruction" Gunbuster, a show by Anno, did a lot what Anoo did in Eva. Or hell, even just Ultraman, which heavily influenced Eva.

      @@DoseOfDhillon ideon itself had so many things related to eva like an robot being more than a machine and basically having the ability to end life in universe as well as being a catalyst to a new genesis

      Basically zambot 3, gundam, ideon and Ultraman found the basis to what evangelion would do
