    When I changed a light fixture with a 2 way switch I forgot where the red wire in the junction box went and this helped me (it tied into the new fixture's black wire) - thanks!

    THANK YOU very much for the information. This worked for me. Our house's built in the 60s and we found the 3 wires when we're replacing light fixture, thank goodness for this video.

    Awesome video. Especially in the current economy with the rising costs of labor and materials and working class incomes not necessarily keeping pace, it's human nature for electricians and DIY'ers to find creative ways to cut costs while providing a high quality and code compliant installation or repair.
    Sometimes during a renovation or remodel job, we need to change out an old school pull chain light fixture with constant hot, to a modern decorative fixture, and add a wall switch to control it. Because the NEC as of 2011 requires an available neutral in the switch box to facilitate future installation of electronic switching devices requiring standby power, we need to fish a 14/3 (or 12/3, if the circuits are 20 amp) from the light fixture to the new switch location. The convention is the black supplies power to switch, red is switched, and the neutral is capped off with a wirenut or wago connector if the switch doesn't require a neutral. The old tried and true 2 wire switch loop is no longer permitted in new installations.

    Quite helpful! Thanks. Friendly Tip for you if you’re going to make more videos: buy a body mic to cut the reverb from your audio. Not super expensive and they make all the difference.

      I am in an Condo Apartment Building...
      It worked! I unhooked the black wire from the 3 black wires in the ceiling Box,
      then hooked the black light fixture wire to the unused Red Wire. Light turns off at the Switch!!!!!
      The wall plugs are still working. Problem solved!!!!!
      Thanking you profusely.

    How I can connect 3 wires to a remote ceiling fan? There is a red, white and a black coming from the ceiling. I am assuming the red is for a separate switch but I am not sure if I can connect it with the black one just in case I don’t have the remote in hand.

      If you have red black White and Coper.
      Means black and red are hot
      And you have a 14 3 cable for a fan and light

    • @brianhankins9992
      @brianhankins9992 2 месяца назад +5

      You should have 4 wires, the 4th one being green or bare copper. It should go Red-Black (red goes to your light switch) / white-white / green(bare)-green(bare) and cap off the black from ceiling. If you don't want to use your light switch to turn on the fan or fan lights and just use the remote you could cap the red and go black-black.

    Haven't Read Code by myself yet does NEC allow this in new installation I'm From Canada haven't seen this yet may be see this in Future here not sure if Canadian Electrical code ask anything about this method.

    • @conquerallelectrical

      We are from Canada, the code does not permit 3 wire feeds anymore, but it does permit 3 wire legs for switches and plugs, or multiple switch legs for lights.
