I decided to read every Fredrik Backman book this year, only 520 pages to go. I am so happy I did they were nice breaks from my normal fantasy genre. My goal this year is to thrift every Patricia Briggs Mercy Thomson book and read everything Adrienne Young has written thus far.

Tom Hanks is apparently a friend of hers, I really enjoyed his narration of the Dutch house. I highly recommend state of wonder.. It's unlike anything I've read and whilst it wasn't my favourite of hers, the visuals have stuck with me years later. I can't shake it off! 🌴 Hope you enjoy your year of Ann!

My goals this year are to read the ACOTAR series and reread the Hunger Games series. Other that, I'll probably keep reading new releases like I did this past year, as I found that to be super enjoyable! I'm mostly a library reader, so I don't buy a ton of books, but I do have a good amount anyway. So another goal is to read my actual physical TBR and size down my bookshelf a bit and only keep things I truly want copies of.

I appreciated Grace of Kings more after digging into the historical context of it, but ultimately felt it was too slow with too many disjointed POVs at the beginning. The beginning 200 pages were a slog for me. It was more focused in the second half, which I liked better, but didn’t save it from being a disappointing read. Knowing the second book is about the same in length I’m still hesitant to continue since I thought the first one could have been tightened up a lot.

    00:00
I am thinking about which new fantasy series I want to start and finish for the year, which literary fiction authors I really want to get to, and which other genres I know and love so much.
    Assassins Fate
    00:46
The first book that's on my Tbr for the year is Assassin’s Fate by Robin Hob. I loved the final two books and the final Trilogy by Robin Hob and I am really excited to see how the story is going to progress.
    01:24
Robin Hob's final Trilogy in the Elderling series has been a delight to read, not only closing up some very important circles, but also opening up some story lines I was not expecting but have truly enjoyed immensely.
    01:58
I'm sad to have my Robin Hob chapter come to an end, but I have several fantasy series I want to start.
    Dandelline Dynasty
    02:13
The Dandel Line Dynasty by Ken Leu is a book that I really want to dive head first in, not only in his works but also in his translated works too. I have heard so many Fantastic things about this series and I feel like it would be something I would really enjoy.
    The Leness Trilogy
    03:31
I read the Will of the Many last year and it was one of my favorite books of 20124 and I thought I would check out the author's backlog of fantasy works and found a completed Trilogy that sounds interesting.
    04:03
The All Powerful Augers were overthroned and the Gifted, who have a strain of their powers, were able to survive as long as they accepted the rebellions for tenants. Daven, the main character, suffers the consequences of this lost war and realizes he possesses the powers of these lost Ers.
    The Last Unicorn
    04:55
I feel like The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle is going to move me, make me cry, and have some of my favorite tropes. It is about a unicorn who ventures out of her Ical Forest to try to find others just like her.
    05:40
I feel like this book is going to be stunning and I definitely want to watch the movie adaptation.
    Ancillary Sword
    05:55
I wanted to wrap up the Ancillary Justice series by Anne Ley in the year 2024 and I want to continue reading it over the next couple months.
    06:32
We are introduced to our main character, Bra, who is kind of at the end of her quest of Revenge.
    06:45
Bre was once known as the Justice of Torn, which is an all-knowing Ai generated spaceship, and she existed through individuals called Ancillaries. But in the present, Bre is a lone individual and we begin to piece this story together.
    Parable of Talents
    07:48
I read Parable of the Sewer a few years ago and loved it as much as it horrified me, so I definitely want to make sure I’m wrapping up the series with the sequel. The series is set in a near future America setting post a climate crisis, destroyed Society, government and normal life as we know it.
    08:47
In this second novel, Lauren's philosophy and religion are better suited for this new world, and Octavia E. Butler provides much to contemplate on.
    Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
    09:15
Brandon Sanderson has a lot of books coming out, so I don't want to fall behind. I've seen this book grace a lot of favorites lists this year, so I'm really interested in checking it out.
    10:03
Yumi and the painter's lives become intertwined in unexpected ways, and somehow I think through ART they become connected.
    10:21
This book is about art and has stunning illustrations. I'm looking forward to picking it up myself.
    Stormlight V
    10:42
As a rule, I only include books that already exist on my bookshelf for this video. But I do want to mention Stormlight 5.
    Joe Abomi
    10:57
Joe Abr's writing is excellent. His characters are likable despite being terrible people, and his worlds are Grim, Dark and Interesting.
    11:17
In 2024, I want to finish the First Law Trilogy and the first Standalone novel within his Universe, and also start the Age of Madness by this author. I have not read the two remaining Standalone novels yet, but I definitely want to.
    Anne Patchett
    12:00
I feel like I'm dubbing 2024 as my year of Anne Patchet and I already own many of her books, but I haven't read a single one. I hope to get to many more of her books next year.
    12:36
A Patchet book is on my Tbr, and it follows the lives of two siblings within the same house. I'm really looking forward to finally diving into this book.
    Tom Lake
    13:00
Anne Patchet's Tom Lake is a newer release and is about a mother who recounts to her daughters like the stories of her past. It sounds like a really contemplative and beautiful book and I truly feel like I am going to love all of them.
    The Sentence
    13:43
This author is incredibly famous and has won the Politzer. I have not read a single one of her books, but I'm really looking forward to starting in the year 20124 with a book I already own and a book that also Clay picked out for me.
    The Beasting
    14:49
This book is about a family who are falling apart, they believe they are cursed, and something is going wrong in each of their lives. We are introduced to the husband who has lost everything, the wife who is half-heartedly ignoring an advances from a fast talking cattle rancher, and the son.
    15:50
All of these characters are going through their own thing, and I'm really curious to see how the whole thing unfolds.
    The Vanished Birds
    16:10
Last year I read the Spear that Cuts Through Water and loved it. I wanted to read more by this author.
    16:22
This book is more sci-fi leaning and the main character, Nia, has traversed Decades of time in a matter of months and has stumbled Upon A Lost Boy. They begin to grow close and a found family component begins to form.
    The Deep Sky
    17:18
This book is set in the eve of Earth's environmental collap and our main character Asuka is the only one to witness a crime, making her the Prime Suspect on board. She throws herself head first into solving this crime again, this sounds very intense.
    18:27
My Tbr is another sequel I've simply let too long be left unread, Fevered Star by Rebecca Ron Horse.
    Fevered Star
    18:44
This series follows a variety of different characters from different backgrounds, all striving towards something leading up to a significant religious moment on the calendar.
    The Emperors Blade
    19:25
Like Priority Fantasy series, I want to start another carryover from last year, but this one sounds amazing. It centers siblings within a power vacuum and power struggle.
    19:48
This series opens up with the Emperor dying and his children trying to figure out what happened to their father. One son is training to be the leader of this world, but is unsure who to trust.
    20:36
I hope you enjoyed this video and I will see you soon with another one.

The Sentence is absolutely brilliant, but while it does feature a haunted bookstore, go into it knowing that it’s set In Minneapolis during COVID and George Floyd. It’s quite intense at times.

The Little White Horse ( I read when I was 10 & now rereading )- stuck with me similar to Unicorn ( although now I can see how "Christian preachy it is & the number of times Goudge wrote "ejaculated ") - well I lol ALOT.

I am not usually a fantasy reader, but I think Sanderson may have a writing style that I might gravitate to. Can you suggest where I might start? Yumi sounds wonderful. Can it be read out of sequence? I do t know where to start with his many many books

I would say Mistborn Era 1! The books are great and are usually the best for getting into his works and the Cosmere.

I think I’m in the minority when I say I did not like The Last Unicorn at all. This book is barely 200 pages long and it took me over two months to finish. It was a SLOG 😬 The only part I kind of enjoyed was going more in-depth with the Unicorn’s/Amalthea’s thoughts and feelings; everything else was just meh, so I’ll just be sticking to the film from now on which I absolutely adore 💖
But as everyone is different and unique, I’d say read it if you’re genuinely curious! 😄
