    I was playing mostly following along with you and one of my vassals was envious of my rule and I discovered he was plotting to kill me, tried to throw him in prison, failed, he revolts and goes to war with me, I wipe the floor with him siege his holdings, take the county back and at the end revoke his title and throw him in prison anyways. Talk about satisfying.

      Classic CK2. I often encourage my vassals to rebel or plot against me so I can break down vassals that are too big, or are annoying me. That's one reason I don't auto stop plots, often times someone is trying to kill someone or fabricating which gives you a good reason to imprison. BTW you can have your army raised before you imprison so you can just sit in top of their capital before you declare for an easy war. Make sure you check factions beforehand, if they are involved in one then the other members might get involved from my experience. And also check how much money a vassal has before imprisoning them. They might have a small levy but if they got some money they can merc up and cause you some real problems. That's a good rule for any war in general.

    In tribal goverements with low tribal organisation you don't raise the vassal troops, you instead get to call them as allies when at war. Good thing - you get MORE troops this way than if you raised them as vassal troops. Bad thing - you don't get to control them, they decide what to do themselves, and also they can just say no and don't show up for the war.

The game seemed quite overwhelming, but seeing you go through it, button-by-button, and feature-by-feature, made it much easier to understand. For future videos though, please try to resist the urge for all the unnecessary cursor movement, map movement, and map zooming - it is very annoying. Try watching the videos with the sound off and you will see what I mean. Overall though, this was very helpful, so thank you!

    I picked the same start as you and in three years one of my vassals decided to plot against me, so I tried arresting him and then had to fight him. As I'm fighting him, the general of my army (another vassal) starts plotting against me separately. Then my general's own son starts plotting against him. Then my daughter's husband died and she came back and started plotting against me. I won the war, executed the original traitor, ended my daughter's plot, then convinced my general to end his plot, and then convinced the son to not kill his father. Then I sit for like fifty years doing nothing. I kept trying to get a marriage with a claim on Ireland but no one bites or if they do they die too quickly/claim is too weak and I can't give them land to legitimize them. I had some random claim for a barony on a Scottish island, and I won that war but then I got literally nothing from it. All this time I have chancellors just fabricating claims and not a single one managed to do anything of value. By the end I had gone through like 4 kings and I was stuck as a 4 year old girl with the same starting 4 counties and I just couldn't take it anymore so I quit.
    I don't really know what I was doing wrong. I don't know if I was making the wrong marriages or if my chancellors were just so bad, but it was really annoying at the end realizing that I had wasted 4 hours to be right at the beginning, just with worse character stats.

      As long as you don't create multiple duchys you should be fine. Your number one goal is to create 1 duchy so when you get galvekinded your pretenders will stay under your control. You will then probably end up fighting them. Hold off on creating a second duchy until you get to be a king.... Also retinues break the tribals... free troops with land

    OK tutorial for learning all the menus and buttons, but you should have gone into depth about pressing claims for people, as one of the main methods of expansion. I didn't understand the mechanic during my first game or two (who even does, lol!) and ended up fighting a war that just resulted in my courtier going independent.

      Yep he misses extended claims and actually going to war/warscore/peace

    • @martinaustin6230
      @martinaustin6230 4 года назад +1

      Pressing claims for people is often tricky. In general if you are their liege (they are a *landed vassal* in your dejure territory) then you are good. A random unlanded courtier won't stay under you. But give him a county, or build him a barony and make him a baron under you. Then they will stay under you. About the dejure territory part. They have to be a vassal in a dejure part of your realm. So if you are king of Ireland and you somehow got a vassal in Sweden (and own no land in Sweden) and you press their claim in Denmark, then they should become independent. But if that swedish vassal was a count and you owned his dejure swedish duchy then you should be good. I have 500 hours in this game and I still get confused by this mechanic.
      Also, you have to be above the title rank you are fighting for. If you are a Duke pressings someone's claim on a duchy they will move on because you aren't powerful enough to be their liege. But if you are a king pressing for someone's duchy claim, then you are ok.
      BTW in this playthrough a petty king isn't actually a king. It's just the Celtic way of saying duke.

    • @martinaustin6230
      @martinaustin6230 4 года назад +3

      If the plot was discovered it will tell you who was leading it. If not then there isn't a way to figure it out for sure. Characters in the line of succession are often the culprit because they want to be next in line especially if they are ambitious. Brothers usually hate each other and will often kill. Wife/mothers/fathers can be another one if it means their own kid is one step closer to inheritance and the current heir (or wherever in succession line) isn't their own child which often happens if you remarry. You have to look at who benefits from this persons death. Every character as their own agenda and ambitions. Also if the character has a rival they will often plot against them.
      Characters often get killed because they aren't liked in the realm, and that's a hard one to track and prevent. Like different religion/culture, poor diplomacy or other traits/modifiers (maybe he was a demon worshipper or a cannibal).
      And sometimes in my experience some characters just decide to randomly plot to kill for no reason at all. Kinda like a human player I guess. But you also have to account for what that character did that you don't know. Maybe he was sleeping with some guys wife. Or killed someone's kid and their family went after him.

Gonna chk out some lets plays

    • @kashk42
      @kashk42 5 лет назад +4

      If you want to be safe, give land to young lowborn characters with good stats and no family who has the content trait (avoid envious and ambitious like the plague) and your culture and religion. If you want a more interesting game with plenty of factions and uprisings, hand it out to brothers, uncles and cousins. But for a new player the safe route is probably better!
      To actually GET the claims you are going to have to invade the place in question. Or murder everyone who are in front of you in the line of succesion. But if it isn't YOUR claim they will just move there and your country wont actually rule the area. Only exception to this is if you press a claim that is lower rank than your current rank AND is within your de jure OR the claimant is of your dynasty. If you have a weak claim the current ruler of the area have to be either a woman or a child or currently in a war over the title, if you have a strong claimant none of these restrictions apply. You will get a pop-up about any weak claims you can press, strong claims you have to keep track of yourself.
      One of the more common ways you do this is to arrange marriages for your brothers, and then press the weak claims of their children against their mothers homeland, OR (even better) press your own mothers or wives claims, because that way the lands will go to you through inheritance when they die. Useful strong claims are harder to come by since only the second and third in the line of succesion actually get them, but if you need them you will probably have to murer quite a few people, or just get lucky.

      @@invictus4107 Yes on the first question. They will found a new noble house, and they will be your vassal without any risk of the county being inherited by a foriegn noble (this is important, if they die before having children, as the county will revert BACK to YOU, rather than end up as part of another country). Except in some very rare circumstances that only exist if you fiddle with exclave independence rules when you set up the game they will stay your vassal.
      When pressing claims it EITHER have to be for a title that is de jure part of your realm, OR they are of your dynasty, yeah. It is also important that your title is of a higher rank than the title you are going after. Pressing a claim on a duchy while you are a duke will just leave them independent, for example.

      I always like my candidates for conquered land to be of my culture and religion so they like me more. And zealous if I am giving them wrong religion provinces so they convert.
      Another thing to look out for are people with claims. If you make a landed vassal of someone who has claims you can press those claims and grow your realm. Some things to watch out for. They have to be your dejure vassal to press those claims and not have them become independent. Meaning you have to own (or another vassal owns) a title above whatever realm they have, and have it be their dejure territory. So if you are king of Ireland and somehow got a swedish vassal (with no land or titles in Sweden) and you press his claim for some land in Denmark. You will lose that vassal. But if you owned his dejure swedish duchy and he's a count. Then you are good.
      This rule of dejure territory is void if they are of your dynasty. Note I have 500 hours in this game and this mechanic still confuses me.
      Other thing to note when pressing claims of other vassals. If you are pushing a claim of a *higher title* than you. They will become independent. So if you are a Duke pushing somones king title. They will become an independent king and take whatever land they already had with them. This is why keeping your vassals realm size in check is important, they can outgrow you and break off just because they form a title higher than you. Some duchies/kingdoms are quite small so it's easy for some vassals to do this. You can also prevent this by creating/ursuping the title yourself so the vassal doesn't get it.

    @12:21 well the only difference is that the center army leads the overall army. but the game doesn't explicitly tell us how it does that. i think traits are more important for the center commander.

      I think you always have to be landed, so in this case you'd change character. If you have another county somewhere your brother would take your primary title and you'd continue with your other land.

Everyone online seems to say "just change your succession system", but I am not able to change any succession systems with that faction, as far as I can tell? Grr.

      Not unless you have a claim on that realm, and you'll have to specifically declare for it. If it's a vassal of someone else you're fighting you'll have finish up that war and declare again after the truce (or your or their rulers changes). There isn't a way to add war additional war goals like some other games.

    • @oldmanyellsatscreen
      @oldmanyellsatscreen Год назад

      Right click the portrait of the character you want to declare war on and select "declare war" from the list. Note that there are various factors limiting your ability to declare war: e.g. you need a valid cassus belli, you cannot declare war on a vassal who is part of another realm (you would need to declare on their highest liege), etc.

      @@ante1219 Click on one of your provinces and upgrade one of the buildings (also called holdings or baronies) you have at the bottom left of the screen, and go for the upgrades that increase levy percentage or a flat increase of a specific troop type. Some other upgrades are also quite nice like tax increases. When you are a tribe the only holdings you can build are tribes and temples/churches. Tribes become castles and you get cities once you are feudal.
      You cannot hold cities, temples, or castle if you are tribe, or a tribe as a feudal without penalizes, give them to someone else. By right clicking on that holding and click create vassal. Or give it to the province owner if you don't directly own the pronvince because he will be mad at you if you own his holdings in his own county. Vassals who like you more give you more levies when you raise them and more taxes (doesn't apply to tribal vassals though because it's a call to arms/alliance system with levies raised)
      While you can upgrade any holding in your realm. You get the most out of upgrading the ones you own directly. Because you get 100% of whatever you upgraded, instead of some percentage through your vassal contribution.
      If you want to know what holdings you directly own. You will always own the main holding (the holding on top of everything else) in a province you own. You can also own additional holdings that are in the row of holdings just below your main holding. Depending on the province you may not have any additional holdings, or you have the slots to build extras. You can expect provinces in northern Italy to have more holdings and be more developed than some random Irish county for example. Its typically better to have vassals hold those additional holdings because it's better to use your domain limit to own actual provinces. Because the main province holding are almost always better, and if you own the province, in most cases the guys who own the additional holdings below you will be your vassals, paying you money and some levy size. If you want to quickly see who owns those additional holdings, the shield on the top left of that particular holding is the family dynasty shield of that person and clicking on it brings up that particular baron owner, or if it's your own dynasty shield then it will be you who owns it minus the unlikely chance that a random member of your dynasty controls it. The shield at the top right indicates which realm that baron bends the knee too, which is hopefully your own dynasty shield. But just because you own the pronvince itself doesn't mean you own all the holdings, or are vassals of your realm. But you can declare war for it because you own the pronvince, and that holding is rightfully yours.
      Another easy way to see what you directly own is by going to your character portrait and going through the titles you have (the location can vary based on DLC, it's either below your stats, or a bit below your picture). Don't mix this up with claims you have. Claims are what you have to earn through war or inheritance which should be in a similar spot where you see your current titles. Also the title itself has a different look depending on the rank of title itself like, barony, count or duke.
      Sorry for the long answer. But proper realm management means more troops for you and happier vassals which are even more troops and taxes.
