Anyway, seriously fantastic work, you're very talented.
The vassal inheritance explanation has made my day! In my current game I was about to lose a vassal due to his inheriting a duchy (actually a bunch of them) but then I granted him one of my duchies so when the foreign ruler eventually dies and he inherits then I am getting all those duchies for my realm.... no wars necessary.... so cool! Thank you so much for this greatest tutorial! Love this game!
Good news: the faction bug described at 20:10 is now fixed. With release 3.0 of Crusader Kings 2, it is once again possible to start a faction for feudal elective succession without the Conclave DLC. The conditions for starting a faction for feudal elective are now different than what I state in the video. The crown authority law no longer needs to be min to start such a faction; low crown authority is now sufficient. Furthermore, if the ruler who controls the crown authority law is your direct liege, then you can start a faction for elective succession even if the crown authority is medium, high, or max.
Just wanted to say thanks for helping me, I gave up on this game 2 times previously. I am now enjoying it alot! It took a few videos (this one too) for me but I managed to "get" it.
It always was a pain to lose land through inheritance without knowing that subtlety of rank difference, your video brought a lot of info. Thanks and keep up the good work!
I've watched all three of your videos. Before this, I almost watched a 20+ part tutorial for the game. In my opinion, that's not a good way to introduce new players. I didn't want a big information load. I was able to get started thanks to your videos. Thank you

One thing to add, in the settings before a game you have the option to normalize the names of provinces, (ex: Sweden will always be called Sweden no matter what culture it is). May be helpful for those who don't have a good understanding of province names, or would like province names to be consistent no matter what culture takes it over at the cost of historical accuracy. P.S. Thanks again for making this....8 months in and I still come back to these videos as refreshers
Absolutely amazing. This guide is AMAZING. I struggled so hard not to get upset using the in-game tutorial my first playthough... I ended up using console commands to get a feel for the game and its systems better. If i had found your channel a couple days ago it wouldve been better lol. Still, many great tips here for such a complicated game! Going to go apply some now on a new playthrough.
In my conquest of Ireland, I've started as the petty kingdom of Munster, and after two kings I've conquered almost the entireity of Southern Ireland and Dublin, but afterwards my counselors became so useless at creating claims that I went straight to the Pope to ask him for rulership over the duchy of Connacht, and surprisingly he granted it to me, tough I don't remember how much I've paid in piety and prestige. Maybe the Pope agreed because previously one of my kings went on a Crusade to Egypt and later became a parangon of virtue, that must have farmed a ton of prestige, piety and stuff. Afterwards some other petty kingdoms formed a defensive alliance against me so I've hired a big mercenary company to give them a proper trashing while my own armies storm the castles. The war lasted 2 years and after conquering 80% of Ireland, my dinasty became the rulers of the Kingdom of Eyre, after 4 generations.
the best video I've ever seen about CK II. It is exactly what i looked for. thanks a lot . And thanks again to have added the written version of what you say. I am french and it helps me a lot !!
One game, I married one of my daughters into an Empire, then the son she had inherited the Empire when the father died, and when I died, I inherited the entire Empire as that boy, Was absolutely insane, I stopped playing because I was tired of the game, and could not be bothered ruling such a huge Empire.
Thanks for the feedback. I too learned to pronounce it "dih ZHOOR," but for my tutorials, I decided to look up the pronunciation. According to www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/de%20jure , it's supposed to be pronounced "dee JOOree" or "day YOOR." Although now that I'm looking at it again, I still got it wrong, as I was pronouncing it "dih JOOree."
I like the French style "de joor" pronunciation better in any case. De jury just sounds funny and I keep thinking about jury duty everytime he says it lol
Thank you for making things more simple because i am new at the game and I love playing ck2 and currently i am playing as iceland and it is more harder than I thought

Its funny how after playing ck2, I now understand what it meant to be the reagent for King Aragorn. I also understand more clearly that he pressed his claim.
Incredible tutorial, I'm not new (about 150hours), but I came here for an explaination on inheriting counties and land in general, I've been playing Cornwall recently, I only hold cornwall, Devon is de jure Dutchy of Cornwall but de facto Dutchy of Wessex. Inheriting Devon would be perfect to me as the Duke of Wessex and i (Duke of Cornwall) share the same liege.
Absolutely excellent tutorial man, thanks! I wish more tutorials were as good as this. Please do more Crusader Kings 2 tutorials (and any more Paradox games)!
I understood most of this video, thank you very much this was gold. I spend some time watching shit tutorials, this one is simple and really well explained. If you want an humble advise, some list of information is better to see them written on the screen. Thank you again.
Excuse me, in this example - 11:46 - isn't Bermudo Ordones already your vassal? I see your portrait top-right above him as his liege. Why do you have to grant him a landed title?
Initially, Bermudo is my courtier, not my vassal. He's an unlanded person of noble birth who's just kind of hanging around in my court. It's true that it says I'm his liege. But this is a bit misleading as he does not have any land titles, so he is not actually anyone's vassal.
They both have their strengths and weaknesses over each other. Like how in CK2 big numbers is all that matters in most battles, so pulling off an Alexander is impossible whilst in Mount and Blade, while it may be hard, it's not so out of reach to overcome the numbers.
Guys a little help, i am playing as Ireland(recommended for begginers),it seems that when i catch a plot and imprison a treaterous vassal i cannot understand how to replace him,i cant revoke his tittle i think,so what do i do to get rid of him and replace him with someone trusted?
If you have sufficient cause, you should be able to revoke at least one of his titles without an opinion penalty from your other vassals. Try right-clicking the vassal and clicking "Revoke Title." The resulting tooltip should tell you if this will result in an opinion penalty. Once you've revoked the title, you can grant it to someone else or keep it for yourself. (See ck2.paradoxwikis.com/Title_revocation#Revocation_reasons for a list of sufficient causes.)
13:08 Pressing your own characters claims..... You state, unlike pressing your own characters claims. You can only press one per war. Does this imply you can press all your personal claims if they are under the control of one person?
Having High Crown Authority is a *requirement* for me because of the vassal inheritance. The AI controlled dukes get so stupid with their marriages and heirs. For me, it is enormously easier just to placate or overcome the -20 opinion penalty of high crown authority than to try and micromanage all that nonsense.
So my wife has a weak claim on a duchy. She is in my court. I followed your exact steps but for some reason I can't declare war, because I don't have a valid causus belli. It doesn't make any sense to me! please help
If you grant an heir to a foreign duchy one of your duchies, he becomes vassal to 2 kings right? What makes him swap the foreign duchy under your rule? I don't quite understand
He doesn't become vassal to two kings - that's the key. In Crusader Kings 2, a character can only have one direct liege. Since you were his liege first, you remain his liege when he inherits his second duchy. So the second duchy will leave the realm of the other king (or emperor) and become part of your realm.
great Video.. Got a question. You say adding a Vassel to your court than using his claim to a land to wage war that since he is my vassel I would gain the territory.. but it didn't work like that.. once I won my Vassel Usurped the title and left my court. Now he owns the land and not me.. Not a good way to get land if this is what happens.
Are you sure he was your vassal? It's not enough for the claimant to just be in your court. In order to get the land, before you win the war, you (usually) have to make the claimant your vassal, by granting him a county or a barony.
yes, awesome vid, and well done, you lost me at "let me explain" I think I understand then in-game options are avail or don't work and need you on speed dial lol
Nice vid! Well paced, easy to understand. A question: when you are in realm view, there is a nice graphic showing the line of succession of any title, however this view is missing in my game, and I only see the line of succession by hovering the mouse over the title shield. Was this a change implemented in a patch?
Uhm i followed the exact steps with the last tactic and it didn't work. The entire Line of Succesion changed and some random kid got the duchy I wanted.
This was a wonderful video but the only thing that confused me was the de jure and de facto example. maybe if you used different countries instead of the U.S invading it's own state.
The situation on the US-Canada border is not that simple ... If the de-jure concept as in terms of SC2 is applied, then Canada may claim the Detroit area and many other places with French names as historically Canadian.
I just started playing ck2 and been trying to figure out how to play, so I looked up on RUclips saw your video and dang you only got 1% dislike this video probably really good
Well... i've tried to annex land in ireland and it totally didn't work, after i enfore my demands over they little city they won't be annexed and just continue to live they lives after i've demolished them
Ok, Ok, Ok. So, let me see if I got this right. If you marry an heir to someone of your dynasty that child will inherit the titles. To get and heir to marry you can ask their liege, if no you can invite the heir to court and then arrange a marriage. If male does the marriage need to be matrilineal or not? I'm guessing no?
You want the children of the marriage to be members of your dynasty. They have to be if you want to eventually play as one of them. So if the spouse who's in your dynasty is male, then the marriage must be partilineal. If she is female, the marriage must be matrilineal. (In the rare case where both spouses are in your dynasty, it doesn't matter whether the marriage is matrilineal.)
@@btrekkie Got it. It's just tricky sometimes to get a male heir to agree to a matrilineal marriage But I haven't tried the method of inviting them to court first.
You don't. You can only get land that you have a claim on. There might be some exceptions when you play as a non Christian ruler with certain DLCs, but I don't know much about those.
