We will utilise strategic bombers, close air support, air superiority fighters, and naval bombers -- and look at the different types of missions air wings can be assigned to. We'll learn all about the Supply system and how infrastructure affects how it reaches our front lines. We will look at how to deploy our navy, particularly since this is now completely different as of Patch 1.6. Finally, we'll look at our internal politics, command structure, and decisions.
Aw man, I remember that your original series of RUclips videos on HOI IV were what got me into the game in the first place. 1.2k hours later I just have to say: Thanks for all the fun times you've brought or inspired! I learned to play HOI4 about 9 months ago, messing around with Italy and playing for a couple months. I'm retired & spoiled so I have several games which I play, so I gave this one a break, waiting for Man the Guns to release. Because I was born back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth (I'm 61), I've forgotten a whole bunch of stuff & needed a refresher. I like your style. Very informative, and most importantly, you don't babble incessantly like a crack ho and constantly lose track of what you were talking about, like some of the kids I've tried to watch & given up on. In addition to drinking massive amounts of duty-free booze, one either took up PCs or scuba diving, 'cause there wasn't much else to do.
I'm hoping to learn how to use the navy (couldn't figure out how to remove a mission from an area i didn't want patrolled anymore), and how not run out of fuel in 1 month while using said navy. 👌
@@ibtoogood4u LOL I have the same issue... what I do is find the navy I want to redirect (and that in itself is a hairy topic) then cancel all its current orders with the "hold" button, then give brand new orders.
@ stamasd I am finishing a run as Britaint and that problem is just too real... Took me a few tries to figure it out, but what I do is that I have a big fleet in port on a Strike force mission and a much smaller one doing the patrol stuff. That way, the big fleet does not consume fuel except when moving to engage the enemy. When I need to convoy troops on the continents, I wait till a handful of them are build, bunch them up in a port, then move my fleet to escort convoys, just long enough to get all my troops across the channel... Still pretty harsh, but I didn't invade Iran or Iraq...

Bulgaria kept joining japan, Romania become communist. Sometimes america becomes fascist without anything that I do that's too different. Not sure if my game is broken or the updates broke it. Edit: I don't use any mods or dlcs.

The latest one with historical focus on, they became communist via civil war, joined comintern, and later had a *second* civil war with a fascist "Free America* that joined Allies. Wish I had screenshot it or recorded it on video or something. Before the most recent updates, my pc would sometimes ctd. The updates fixed that but made my game strange. Edit: I also often see Romania have both fascist and communist influence special event at the same time so it often becomes communist and the Germany AI kicks him out or he leaves the axis faction.
It's not a low chance anymore. I went into the country modifier before a game and put all nations as historical and turned on Historical AI before the game, to make sure it was as historical as possible. I was playing as Finland. Soviet Union turned Fascist and never launched the winter war against me. Britain became Communist France became Communist Germany lost to Poland after Poland formed an alliance with Italy and Poland immediately killed itself by having a fascist civil war RIGHT after losing. I can tell you that's not what happened in real life, and I fell asleep in math class.
@NoYou Without particular dlc, most majors have both fascist domagogue and commies revolutionary unlocked at the start of the game. So it is possible for the AI to accidently pick that ministers.
I’ve only played to games my first as Italy my second as Poland In my second game I though I was doing good and then I forgot to upgrade my factories that produce synthetic materials. I've been playing EU4 and CK3 a lot, with CK3 being the easiest for me and basically can play as any nation and get strong, EU4 a bit more challenging for me, but still do well most of the times, yet, I've always struggle with HOI4. Mainly because just by looking at vids and having played (very little), I get overwhelmed by so many mechanics. It has to be me then, because I find EU4 and CK3 simple now after hundreds of hours played, so I don't know why HOI4 gives me the perception of being so much more complex.
I finally broke down and bought HoI 4 almost a year ago, when my divorce started. I've tried a few times to try to play. But couldn't even figure out how to het past the first hour in the tutorial. Now...I really wamt to play it, but still couldn't figure anything out. Thank you. Ill be watching all 7 videos. This seems.like a very grand scale game, and very in depth. I'm going to need all the help I can get, just to play. I won't ever play online against other players, but thos will pass dome time in a fun way. This remains EASILY the best tutorial series for HOI4: I've been going through the videos carefully and shaking my head every few minutes thinking "how come I never figured that out before?"
What Quill did miss is that the first group of buildings (Infrastructure, Anti-air, and whatever else is there) don't use the same building slots. Those can always be built up to the max in a state, the building slots are for the next group (shared buildings). In fact, upgrading infrastructure is the main way to create building slots (though I prefer conquest myself ;) )
I mean netherlands are pretty hard/easy like I just had a netherlands game i build some forts and hold after germany declared war on me and then in 1943 pushed into germany and some how I did it
The fact that it took 7 videos to explain this game and they're all 30 minutes long makes me wish I never bought this game in the first place. Plus the developers should pay you for this video because this is what the in game tutorial should have been.

Italy is probably the best starting country as you basically get a decent feel for air, land and sea and also have a decent production, gets to annex things; all while not being a major player, you can focus on a pretty small area around the Mediterranean.
So I've watched like 3 or 4 other creators explain how to play and I deliberately didn't click on yours because I didn't want to watch a series of 7 episodes. The other guys left me confused and from just this video alone I am finally beginning to understand what the hell I'm meant to be doing! Thank you, have another like, and I'll make sure to watch the other 6. You rock \m/
Best tutorial for beginners in HoI IV! I watched several of them and all were very confusing and not clear - except yours. To me - you are a amazing teacher, you really can explain evberything step by step. This game is pretty scary at the beginning - lots of options, many things going on at the same time. Thank you for helping me with that, can't be more greatfull for your videos. Now when I know the basic's I can finaly enjoy this wonderfull game, this masterpice. Without you, I would probably just give up after few hours and lost oportunity to have houndrets of hours of fun. One more time - HUGE THANKS!

I have to mention this, @quill18. Factory conversion back in USSR was quite amazing. For example, there's a whole line of tobacco factories, making cigarettes that just happen to be 7.62mm in diameter. Guess how long it takes for those production lines to change to making ammo? ))
I didn't realize that the process of making cigarettes was so similar to the process of making bullets that they could use the same equipment. Or did they just shoot cigarettes at the enemy and give them all lung cancer? :)
I just picked this title up for 10$. This game doesn't have a learning curve. It has a learning cliff! I have a lot to learn here before I even turn the game on here.
It took awhile to learn Steel Panthers 3 way back when. This looks like some of the same interfaces are similar. Lots of details, lots of buttons, lots to learn. Hopefully lots of fun.

Since I bought this game two years ago on steam, I've (allegedly) played this game for some 70 hours. I don't remember this. I pretty much remember playing the Tutorial, not understanding what the hell is going on, and giving up. This video is giving me hope. If all goes well, I'll reply to part 7 in about 3 hours.

Nice refresher course here. I put about 100 hours in when the game came out but waited for some DLC to do any more, well that was years ago and this is a paradox game. = me rusty. =) So thanks again.

After following this tutorial I went from not understanding what was going on to placing Trotsky as head of the USSR and hold my own in a War against Finland, Estonia, France, the UK, the Commonwealth AND Nationalist China. 12/10 quill18 made an amazing tutorial.

I remember seeing an iSorrow video about HOI4 about exploiting the newly added spies I believe it was at the time, I bought the game knowing nothing about and tried out the tutorial and oh man... I've never been great with long tutorials you have to read through, I struggle to really take in all the information so imagine my feeling of being overloaded with stuff to think about while also playing. I remember finding this series a couple days of frustration later but by that point it was too late lol, almost 6 years and many failed attempts later I finally put all the fragmented pieces together well enough to help the Allies defeat Germany and Japan as the US a couple weeks ago, since then I've found this tutorial and a bunch of other really helpful ones along the way. Dark Souls might be known as the most gate-keepy community but some of the worst advice I've ever seen being given by people that seem to be actively trying to turn new players away has been in hoi4 discussions sadly, no the tutorial is not actually all that great especially for people like me and it just isn't true anymore, that tutorial really needs to be looked at again because it's showing its age, even Victoria II has a better one...

Italy is probably the best starting country as you basically get a decent feel for air, land and sea and also have a decent production, gets to annex things; all while not being a major player, you can focus on a pretty small area around the Mediterranean.

So I've watched like 3 or 4 other creators explain how to play and I deliberately didn't click on yours because I didn't want to watch a series of 7 episodes. The other guys left me confused and from just this video alone I am finally beginning to understand what the hell I'm meant to be doing! Maybe it's a joke, but paradox games are usually very hard at first sight, then it gets from hard to very easy

I watched several of them and all were very confusing and not clear - except yours. To me - you are a amazing teacher, you really can explain evberything step by step.
This game is pretty scary at the beginning - lots of options, many things going on at the same time. Thank you for helping me with that, can't be more greatfull for your videos.
Now when I know the basic's I can finaly enjoy this wonderfull game, this masterpice.
Without you, I would probably just give up after few hours and lost oportunity to have houndrets of hours of fun.

I have to mention this, @quill18. Factory conversion back in USSR was quite amazing. For example, there's a whole line of tobacco factories, making cigarettes that just happen to be 7.62mm in diameter. Guess how long it takes for those production lines to change to making ammo? ))
But aren't cigarettes basic infantry equipment anyway?
I didn't realize that the process of making cigarettes was so similar to the process of making bullets that they could use the same equipment. Or did they just shoot cigarettes at the enemy and give them all lung cancer? :)

I just picked this title up for 10$. This game doesn't have a learning curve. It has a learning cliff! I have a lot to learn here before I even turn the game on here.

It took awhile to learn Steel Panthers 3 way back when. This looks like some of the same interfaces are similar. Lots of details, lots of buttons, lots to learn. Hopefully lots of fun.

Since I bought this game two years ago on steam, I've (allegedly) played this game for some 70 hours. I don't remember this. I pretty much remember playing the Tutorial, not understanding what the hell is going on, and giving up. This video is giving me hope. If all goes well, I'll reply to part 7 in about 3 hours.

The first of 7 segments is 32 minutes long... I've taken technical certification exams that had shorter study/prep times.
I might as well as got a degree in learning paradox games at this point

Nice refresher course here. I put about 100 hours in when the game came out but waited for some DLC to do any more, well that was years ago and this is a paradox game. = me rusty. =) So thanks again.
I watched this entire playlist three times and clocked up 100 hours before I had a competent understanding of every component of the game. Worth it though. Great game.

After following this tutorial I went from not understanding what was going on to placing Trotsky as head of the USSR and hold my own in a War against Finland, Estonia, France, the UK, the Commonwealth AND Nationalist China.

I remember seeing an iSorrow video about HOI4 about exploiting the newly added spies I believe it was at the time, I bought the game knowing nothing about and tried out the tutorial and oh man... I've never been great with long tutorials you have to read through, I struggle to really take in all the information so imagine my feeling of being overloaded with stuff to think about while also playing. I remember finding this series a couple days of frustration later but by that point it was too late lol, almost 6 years and many failed attempts later I finally put all the fragmented pieces together well enough to help the Allies defeat Germany and Japan as the US a couple weeks ago, since then I've found this tutorial and a bunch of other really helpful ones along the way.
Dark Souls might be known as the most gate-keepy community but some of the worst advice I've ever seen being given by people that seem to be actively trying to turn new players away has been in hoi4 discussions sadly, no the tutorial is not actually all that great especially for people like me and it just isn't true anymore, that tutorial really needs to be looked at again because it's showing its age, even Victoria II has a better one...

So i really wanted to get into this game, and have loaded it up 3 or 4 times and had a play about, but so much going on i couldn't make head nor tail if it, i'm not unintelligent and have played strategy games for over 30 years, just watching the first tutorial helped loads, i'm going to make coffee and watch the rest, thanks so much for doing this
