How was this not in my algorithm until this week... Gerald this is so cool. I've been doing the music studio equivalent for the last year or so. Really cool to see these with youtube studios.
So so SO stoked to hear that you plan to keep doing these tours as soon as it's safe to travel again. I really loved discovering the first tours that you did and am really looking forward to seeing you do more of them in the future. Thanks again for showing us so much about the nuts and bolts of the process. You're awesome.
This is excellent! You make youtube videos about what equipment to use when for making youtube videos - and now a youtube video about which gear to use when making youtube videos about how other people make their youtube videos! Doesn't get much more meta. Love it!
The Studios Undone is a great series. Kudos on the ones done so far. I hope you are planning on revisits to them akin to What's in my camera bag annuals. Take care and be safe Gerald. Thanks for the vid.
Your RUclips creators studio tours is my favorite series out of all the YT videographers. They are so well done that I often rewatch them just for the fun of it.
Your channel deserves so many more subs. Some of the best gear content on RUclips. I love your stuff with camera conspiracies. His channel is also great.
11:55 Most old monitors WILL NOT WORK for filming applications, as they are expecting 1080p/720p at 60hz, and lots of new cameras do either 1080p30/4Kp30 or 1080p24/4Kp24. only 2 monitors out of 12 here in studio work, to give you an idea. Higher end monitors, usually ones for gaming or with Freesync or G-Sync -MAY- have this capability, always test first. I recommend a TV instead, as they will generally output almost any framerate your camera throws at them. Currently we use a 28" Asus 28" 4K VP28UQG which works well, but probably will upgrade soon to a Samsung 4K 43" incher for client view. Loved the video, awesome channel, keep up the amazing work. Subbed!
I cannot wait until you get the chance to go out and do more of these. I am trying to update my own RUclips studio and it's awesome to see what others have in their spaces. Thanks for putting the time into making these. I hope some day my studio will get a purple star.
Thank you Gerald. Edutainment at its best. This answered so many of my questions, including whether the series will continue. How about visiting my favorites such as Caleb Pike, PhotoJoseph, & Peter McK?
sweet i saw this before seeing or knowing about the studio tours so now i have a whole new series to watch :D thanks man i was running out of rick and morty episodes xD
I'd just like to pass this along to you regarding getting natural sounding audio that's representative of the space you're shooting in. Although you probably already know this trick. What I've done since the 80s is to use lavs AND a shotgun and then mix the two in post. Depending upon the space, you'll mix in more or less of the shotgun.
Dude great video as always! Thanks for answering my question and nice job with pronouncing my name! Baller! Very cool to hear about these behind the scenes stuff.
this is great, man in the mirror reference as well. how about making one on creating a studio and what you'd recommend with different budgets in mind? :D
I really love the series Gerald, is the most geek moments in this quarentine that I enjoy, also after watching iPhonedo videos I have the same feeling.
Great series. Can't wait to see more tours. Maybe see if they would let you on to a movie set next? Then you can give Christopher Nolan tips on purple in his movies.

Great series, could you tell us please which picture profile you use in both cameras?
Great, informative video. Fantastic to see you blending/connecting with the audience. Curious, what experience / education / background do you have? Does it help with your channel/content?
Such a great series Gerald! People love to see their fav YT celebs together! What box do you have on your rim light? I need something good, but smaller than the Litedome II!
Can you make a video about Sigma 24-70 2.8 e or l mount for manual focus by wire because im curious this wire cant make me to buy this lens because no one talks about that if its reliable... Organic Manual linear focus vs Focus by wire... maybe as an idea for video.
When did you switch from shooting most of your video on the GH5 to shooting mostly on Sony cameras? And when did you decide to go with S-LOG2 over the CINE2 and HLG3 profiles you recommended last year?
I love this series and loved watching the making of it. Thanks for the awesome tip on creating a phone ringtone! 🙌🏼I have a question: could you also add the link to the Thinktank backpack that Julie uses? I always struggle to find a good gear backpack for travel.
Hey Gerald, new fan but am loving the content. Question, you mention your Sony wireless headphones. Are you able to monitor wireless to the Sony A73? If so how does that work? Delay? Thanks in advance.
I'm just using 12-footers from StarTech. (Good brand) The issue is if you go much longer than that you can start to get interference issues and then you're better off with XLR.
Potato Jet should takeover and tour your studio next. I know you have a studio tour on your channel but it would be cool to see him do that with you. I enjoyed that episode a lot
I was wondering why you don't use lav mics, thanks for explaining that. However, I personally still find this heavily reverbed sound to be kinda distracting sometimes; also, the fact that the quality of the sound keeps jumping between interview shots and tour shots doesn't help. So perhaps you could try using both lavs and the on-cam shotgun mic, and then switching to shotgun track on post specifically when you're going to talk about sound treatment? That would give us the idea of how the studio sounds and would keep the voices pretty even across all other parts of the video. Other than that, studios undone is a great series, loving it! Thanks for your work :)
Hi Gerald. Thanks for your videos, really enjoy them. I would be interested in your S-Log2 settings and matching workflow in post. Which Sony color mode do you use then? Do you use a correction LUT in post? I find it difficult to select a good S-Log2 starting color space, that I can easily transform with Filmconvert Nitrate later. Any suggestions? :-)
I could make a video on it. It's pretty basic though. I use S-Log2 with S-Gamut, so default PP7 settings. That mode itself works naively with Nitrate I believe. But for these tours, I just do a quick grade by hand with. First node is +85 saturation. Second is a curve to bring the midtones back down, essentially looks like a reverse log curve with a touch of contrast. Third is my purplish grade and any minor creative color corrections I want to make. And then fourth, if necessary is some finishing contrast.
That was fun. Looking forward to the next set of studio tours. I do have a question. You are using the Zoom F6. What would you recommend as a pre-amp for someone that does not have any XLR microphones, but would still like some of the features that a pre-gives them?
For all the effort you put into making the song sound like it's coming from a phone, why do you leave it stereo? Wouldn't it be a mono sound if it's coming from a cell phone?
So was this kind of the studios undone studio undone?

I’m usually recording with a Rode VideoMic Pro+ but the rooms I work in are untreated, what dynamic mic would you recommend? I also have a USB interface but if I could somehow record direct in camera I would prefer it 🙂
I have sony a7iii as a professional I am advocate or I start short filmmaking business currently I have sony 28 or 50 mm lens 70mm sigma lens now which lens you suggest for future short film because I have normal light or accessories already but confuse in lens selection
Im sure you already did a video on this but do you have a good recommendation for external audio recorders? My H4N Pro just broke and im looking to upgrade for my onset filming!
Amazing video, Gerald BUT: how the hell do you fit your gimbal in your bag? lol I'm frankly terrified of dropping money on a camera bag just because I'm afraid my Weebil S will have difficulty fitting with a 15" laptop, all my chargers, etc. etc. (Not because of the money: I just hate waiting for shipping and return shipping if things don't work out). I'm new to having all of this expensive equipment and right now, my #1 worry is choosing a bag that's 1. not secure enough 2. not spacious enough 3. too heavy 4. won't let me carry all my other daily things. I noticed you don't have a laptop in your gear spread there.... how?! I am terrified to leave this thing at home incase I need to make a quick edit or get a file to a client.
Gerald have you thought about doing like a Zoom stream type thingy, haha. Where you are watching /commenting and split-screen with the tour person, doing well, a Tour. Like they are explaining to you("the Dr." see a previous comment diff. vid) Then you 2 do a split-screen streaming interview part and finishing with your solo, well with the clipboard naturally, haha. just a thought, could be an ongoing series, where you end up talking to smaller Yt'ers or anyone looking for advice/consult(cha-ching) Trying to give back a little value from the large amount you give all of us!!! BRavo!
Hey Gerald, awesome series you've built here. Question for you: When doing these kind of collaborations with other creators, do you compensate them for their time or are they all just willing to be part of the series? Are there business sides of things with the creators in this series?
In my experience, RUclips is generally a really collaborative, helpful environment. Most creators I know are happy just to do a "you be in my video, I'l be in yours" kinda thing. I do take them out for lunch/dinner though. 😃
Really cool to see how much quality you can produce while traveling with so little. Just think how much BETTER it could be if you took a 40" monitor with you everywhere... 🤔👍
Gerald, what software are you using to edit these vids and what is the average time it takes you to edit to published state for posting? Knowing that it takes you about five hours to record the content...how long to edit for a total amount of production time? Thank you for doing what you do. They are great, informative, and a much needed boost of humor.
It takes me about two solid days of editing. There was one video I had to get done quickly, and that one I edited on the laptop in about 9 hours, but I prefer to comeback to it the next day and finish up to get fresh eyes on it. This series has been edited entirely in DaVinci Resolve.
It's the greatest series of our time.
I definitely would like to see your Undone studio, Casey, because your "studio" is not yet done;-) Dare I dream...oh my God right now, oh my God!
Fuck Yes!

Your RUclips creators studio tours is my favorite series out of all the YT videographers. They are so well done that I often rewatch them just for the fun of it.
The humour is so subtle in your videos - but so on point - love it 👌🏾
Your channel deserves so many more subs. Some of the best gear content on RUclips. I love your stuff with camera conspiracies. His channel is also great.
Hi I'm Gerald Undone and my sweet purple star stickers are more valuable to me than any gear I own.
I love the way you use the story blocks footage! And man this is a great video! So much value
Great stuff. Love the studio tours. Kudos...that’s a lot of frickin work! 👍👍👍
I love the series and I am a huge fan of all the creators you've interviewed. Most importantly you can tell your having fun while doing these

Finally a Gerald video ! i was starting to panic ! hope you're safe and love your videos, they really inspire me to always do better.
That's great to hear! Thanks so much. 🤓🙏💜
The sponsorship integration bits in these vids are genuinely brilliant
The 5 people who disliked don’t have access to hot air balloons and submarines.
Awesome video as always Gerald! Always cool to see what others do in their studio.
Great series and very unique. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
11:50 what's the best way to get a monitor on a stand?
Love this series!!! Most of these studios have evolved over time to be optimally functional for each creator
The very last quip was worth watching the whole video for. :) I promise I thumbed-up!
Thank you Gerald. Edutainment at its best. This answered so many of my questions, including whether the series will continue. How about visiting my favorites such as Caleb Pike, PhotoJoseph, & Peter McK?

Looking forward to the next round and awesome job with the sponsor integration

Gerald Undone Thanks GU! Ordering one right now! Stay safe!
Thank you for the great video again! Your style is really inspiring for starting RUclipsrs (like me).
Very interesting video! Love seeing the gear you use. Also love this series!! Cheers, Gerald. 🙌
Nice one. Do you describe your current lighting setup anywhere? It looks great. Are you also adding a vignette in post?
I thoroughly enjoy your art and craft!

Great video again Gerald! Thank you so much.
So SLog2 looks good on a A6400? I thought the 8 bit would look bad so I shoot HLG but now I want to try slog on my A6400
We're using a dynamic mic as well for our RUclips videos which is working well!
Epicness. Absolute epicness.
Id love to have you over here in México some day Gerald ;)

What do you suggest for extension cables for the mics? I am using ones I have had for years, and am a bit tired of them, and want longer ones.

Love this series
@Gerald Undone How are you converting the Rode Videomic NTG to XLR? Particular adapter or cable? I’ve had some issues with some.
RUclips needs to implement a Double thumbs up button for your Vids. Because I find them Useful and Entertaining. 🤓👍
Why the Sigma 24-70 and not the Tamron 28-75mm for tight shots? Any particular reason?
What‘s HAAAPPENING everybody! You almost did it like back then, yaaaay! Good‘ol memories :-)
