  • Our last day in the Dolomites may have been our favorite of our entire trip. We spent the day on the largest high plateau in the Alps called the "Alpes di Suisi." From our hotel in Ortisei it was less than a five minute walk over the river to the "Mont Seuc" cable car which is all we needed to access this paradise. At the top the views are spectacular and there is a circular walk going counter-clockwise through a mostly level pastoral landscape with three places to eat, rest and use the toilet along the way. These are "Almgashof Mont Seuc" (at the top cable station), "Malga Contrin Hutte," and "Malga Schgaguler Schwaige."
If you have ever dreamt of a lush green pastoral scene with wildflowers and a backdrop of spectacular snow-covered mountains and the sounds of cuckoos and cowbells, this is for you. No heavy backpack is required, just a camera or cell phone, a hat, possibly a jacket (or raincoat) and a wallet. But, and this is important, it must be in late spring or early summer. June 8th was our day.
