Am I crazy or do some people pronounce it 'Ortezzi'? I studied in South Tyrol in college and swear that's how it was being pronounced but could be misremembering.
Thank you for this great video, will come handy when we visit the area early summer. Btw, just the other day I came across your blog (independently of this video) and took notes from a great post about Val Gardena. 😃 Lots of inspiration and information! 🙏❤
It's such an amazing place. The views are spectacular. Definitely encourage you to take advantage of the hiking as much as possible! Having a beer and meal at the rifugios is amazing! Have a great trip and let us know how it goes. -H
Nice video! We were there in September 2019. Ortesei is a perfect spot to set up base to explore from. Alpe di Siusi is such a wonderful area for hiking/mountain biking. Seceda is one of the highlights of the area which is also accessed via gondola from Ortesei. The Gardena Pass drive over to Cortina d'Ampezzo is must must do if you have the time. Stop for lunch and head back a different route to Ortesei for fantastic views. Tre Cime, Lago Di Braies and Val di Funes are places not to miss. What a stunning place and can't wait to get back there!
Thanks for this great video. I'm hoping to go in mid October. It looks like that's when you were there. Are the refugios in the area open for lunches then even though it's late for the season? Thanks!
When we were there, some of the refugi were closing at the end of September and early October. Some are open year-round, but it's worth double-checking. I believe many of them reopen for winter, but probably not all of them.
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. The Dolomites will be at the end of our 10 weeks in Italy. I was only planning on a couple days but looks like now it should be at least a week.
Ortisei is the home town of acclaimed composer, singer, lyricist, guitarist, and record producer Giorgio Moroder. He has won three Oscars and four Grammys, Moroder is often credited with being the architect of modern pop music. "My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everybody calls me…. Giorgio"- Giorgio by Moroder, Daft Punk.
If you take the cable cars/Gondolas out of Ortisei, then I'd say yes. They are on opposite sides of the valley though so it might be a long day depending on how much you wanted to hike. -H
@@lenaj.8881 Absolutely, it's only a short bus ride up the valley from Oritisei (10mins). We actually walked back one day and it didn't take very long. There's also a neat train tunnel as museum about WWI and the railroad. I filmed a walk from there down valley. -H (from TMEL)
Hello! What time of year did you visit? We are planning the last week of september/first week of october and are wondering if the weather will be similar.
Hi Meaghan, we visited right about the same time. Weather is variable but we didn't really see much snow until the first week of October. It's an amazing time to visit. Hope you have a great trip. -H
Most gorgeous spot on this globe! Winter and Summer!
We'd love to go see it in Winter! So stunning. We loved our three weeks there. Thanks for watching and commenting. -H
Ortisei and Val Gardena are gorgeous, in winter and summer !
We'd love to see them in winter. I can only imagine! Thanks. -H

Wonderful suggestions and we couldn't agree more. We didn't have a car but the buses were fairly easy to use and very affordable. -H

Great video guys. We’re driving down to the resort in June 2024 from the UK.
It's so beautiful. Have a great time exploring. -H

You definitely want as much time as you can get in the Dolomites! We were there for a month and could have stayed longer.

Very cool. I had no idea. Thanks so much for sharing that. -H
Hi, is it possible to do seceda and alp de suisi on the same day? Are the cable cars close by..

What CityWalks said. -H
You dress a coat, when was it?
We were there mid-September through mid-October.
Brief info about the hikes would be perfect
@@lenaj.8881 The hikes are detailed in the blog post: travelingmel.com/things-to-do-in-ortisei-val-gardena-italy-st-ulrich/
Enjoy!!!
@@Travelingmel thanks a lot!!
We couldn’t find a good stay in Ortisei but found a nice place in Selva di Val Gardena. Do you think it’s a good place for a one week base?

Thank you, very informative! Because of your video, I have decided to go to Ortisei in my upcoming travel to Italy
How exciting! You are going to love it there!

Thanks Deb. -H
May I know what month was this video taken?
Absolutely. This was in late September and early October. -H
