      Killing the MOTHER and botching the finale *DESTROYED* the career of Bays and Thomas.
      FACT: they had to write a script for an episode to turn everyone back to who they where in SEASON 1 so they can tack on the Finale they shot in the first season.
      SO SCREW all the plot developments from Season 2 to the finale.

Both episodes made me tear up... When the writers wanted to get you, whether it be the 2 minute first date, the passing of a friend’s father, or the after-the-fact realization of just wanting 45 more days, they’re masterful at evoking the emotions.

    Originally I really didn't like the ending of the show, as someone who had so much trouble finding love during the years the show was on air, I really wanted Ted to find the mother and live happily ever after, just as I wish it would happen for me.
    But then years of experiences later, I realized what the ending was trying to say was what the rest of the show has been saying all along: life is unpredictable. You will think you have fallen in love with someone and that it will be all smooth sailing from then on as long as you two try your best, but then life will throw you curve balls that you never see coming. So all we can do is cherish the time we have with our loved ones while we can, and deal with the obstacles as they come, and hope that we may possibly get a happy ending even if that was not what you expected.

      The problem with the end of the show wasn't that Ted didn't get his happily ever after with Tracy, the problem is when they tried to show Ted and Robin back together again. It was forced because that is what they filmed with the kids years before. All they had to do was fade to black after future Ted finishes telling the story to the kids. "And that kids is how I met your mother." *fade to black* They never should have used that extra footage with the kids.

The kids saying, after their father telling this heartbreaking story, INCLUDING this part, because the narrator Ted was telling all that we heard and saw here to his kids, saying things like "I'm always gonna love you, until the end of my days, and beyond", and the kids after all this story just randomly say "So what'cha tryna tell us is that ya wanna fuck aunt Robin huh?". • @GregJonson
    @GregJonson 4 года назад +288

    Gotta say something quickly. I completely understand and like the official ending. It tells us one thing: there really is no happily ever after. Life just doesn't close the book on you when you've reached the peak of your happiness. Life goes on, past any milestones that you meet, and the challenges will not stop. It tells us not to take things for granted, even as we fulfill our dreams. Things can, and probably will, never stay the way that you want them to. Anything you have you can lose within moments. It tells us to cherish what you have, every last drop of it, wholeheartedly, _while_ you still can. You never know how much time you really end up getting.
    It's a hard hitting lesson that I'm really struggling with. But ultimately, with knowing the fragile nature of things, life teaches us to enjoy things as they are happening.
    So when Barney said: "This isn't a failed marriage. It was a successful marriage that only lasted three years." That's exactly what he meant. Both he and Robin realised they don't work, and rather than trying to beat a dead horse, they decided to end things on a high note, as there was nothing more of value that their marriage could give them, and staying together would only spoil those happy moments they once shared.
    As for Ted and Tracy. We've known that they were a once-in-a-lifetime perfect match. But does that mean they had to stay together forever to justify it? Of course not. Ted has learned the lesson that he "must never stop loving her, not even for a second," or whatever the quote is. And that's exactly what he did, even knowing that he'd be losing her within months. To him, it wasn't an unhappy lovestory. It was a happy lovestory that only lasted 15-ish years.

If you're married and your husband dies are you just going to stay alone forever. It says until death do you part. After that all bets are off and It's not like he hopped into bed with her right after that. Like I said 6 years. and I adamantly believe that you can love two people you can have two loves of your life.He loved Tracy but he always loved Robin that kind of love just doesn't go away there are different kinds of love. It's so heartbreaking to lose someone and when you lose them, you feel going back and looking to make the most of the time with them because it's never gonna come back and it's priceless. For "present" Ted (the one who told the story) it has been 6 years that Tracy died. For us it was 1 episode. We were robed of Teds grieving and because of this, the ending seems rushed. I have no problem with Ted ending up with Robin, because I know if Tracy was still alive, Robin would have been out of the picture. But for me, when Ted let us know Tracy died, I was shocked and I was grieving one of my favorit characters that the show built up the whole story. When I was grieving, Ted has already moved on (it has been 6 years for him already). They could have handled the ending better, in my opinion.

      They definitely should’ve shown Ted and Tracy dealing with her illness; maybe even to soften the blow of Ted suddenly ending up with Robin again, they should’ve had Tracy and Robin having some heart to heart moments which helps Robin to accept Ted and Tracy together and Tracy to accept Ted’s connection to Robin. When Tracy is dying, she and Robin are close enough that she lets Robin know that she is okay if Robin and Ted get back together after she is gone because Ted won’t be able to love anyone again except for Robin. Robin is so heartbroken by Tracy’s death that she distances herself from the group because she feels like she can’t be both Ted’s ex and friend after his wife just died. Tracy, being the detective she always knew she was, figured that neither Robin or Ted would be okay with taking the next step on their own so she asked daughter Penny (who by then probably would’ve been old enough to understand) to give Ted the message that she gave him her blessing to move on with Robin when he was ready to move on without Tracy.

    For anyone to have disliked the ending... they really weren't watching the show and understanding what was happening the whole time. And this scene in itself examples it.
    I get the comedy part of the show can distract people from the main storyline. But they wrote the beginning and end of this show before they began production. The whole reason he was having that conversation was to tell his children the hardships he went through before his mother. As well as help them to see how much happier she made him. But also importantly enough, to explain his feelings toward their aunt Robin. While letting them know that Tracy was and forever will be the truest love of his life.
    The ending was heart wrenching. That long journey for Ted to only have so many years with Tracy. But I bet he had great years with her too. And it all goes full circle.

    • @InfamousKalen
      @InfamousKalen 2 года назад

      @@idkmynametho8391 not true at all. Sitcoms get a bad rep when trying to execute an in depth story all the time. Because people often get caught up in forgetting that story driven sitcoms actually have a goal and a point to reach and well.. a story. Characters growing ill, serious moments, death, these things strike negatively in the genre specifically because people are watching the shows for some laughs and side blinded by serious moments.
      There's nothing wrong with good story in a sitcom. And for many of us the serious moments actually make the fun times more appealing as we get to feel an almost real relatability to the characters and show that way.
      But killing core characters will always rock the wagon no matter the purpose or intents. It's less than pleasing for the majority. But that doesn't actually take away from anything. That's just a feeling some have to deal with. It doesn't make a great story not great.
      The end half of this story literally defines why the story exists at all. And without it the whole thing would have been pointless and poorly done. Just another sitcom trying to appease the viewers and change up their plans and make their own story plot make no sense at all.
      Explaining things in a story designed to have depth helps tell how well done a story is. There's a ton of Easter eggs and hidden tells throughout this story. And it's awesome to see when you go through it a few times. That's a positive, not a negative.
      This was never meant to be a basic Point A to Point B show for some laughs. The fact that it drew random people in due to it's well done short story episodes mixed in with good comedy and situations actually speaks volumes on how well done the show was for one with such depth and bigger meaning behind it.

    Rewatching this show at the age of 27 is hitting me like a goddamn train. Im coming to terms with the fact that my older family members may not be here much longer and some of my friends have families of their own. Luckily I have an amazing partner in my life right now. It’s a newer relationship but I’m beginning to think he might be “the one.” ❤️❤️

    I wish I could go back in time also. My wife passed away 10/4/24. We were married for four glorious months. She was terminally ill and passed on. But if I could go back in time, I would go back all the way to high school and make her my girlfriend and marry her so I could have a full lasting life with her. RIP Tonja. I'm always going to love you and miss you mi amor.
