I still think the episode where Ted is talking about how if he could go back to the night he went to Robots vs Wrestlers by himself he would go and meet Tracy 40 days sooner so he could have those extra days. That's when I knew she was already dead at the time of Ted telling the story and it kind of made the whole show and my heart turn upside down. And the way the show makes you feel as lonely as Ted does in that episode
Never watched a single episode of this show, but that transition is one of pure genius. The lighting, the song coming in at just the right time, and the power in the song itself. Stunning piece of TV right there.
Tracy was lebenslangerschicksalsschalz and when she was gone Ted only had Robin left who is his beinaheleidenshaftsgegenstand..... @Barbora Litvanová it's not because he said: I think so. With the answer: if you have to think about it you haven't felt it. Like the german had with victoria is what ted had with robin.
Philip Thomas both the death and the divorce were planned from the beginning which pissed me off it was either going to be victoria as the mother or tracy and they went with tracy but in the end they knew she was destined to die
@@tariqondatrack2366 they actually planned Victoria to be the mother if the show wasn't received well and failed, but then the show was a massive success so they rewrote it for a longer show
Edit: Spoiler Alert Many missed the irony that the mother in this scene was introduced to the song The Funeral indicating her death in the first scene itself
I just rewatched the scene compared to this clip and when it zooms out on the mother, there are no lyrics being sung in the real scene; whereas the clip has the lyrics about the funeral being sung. So it sounds more hopeful in the show. I do like how the music goes through the credits and I wish they did it for this like how this clip was edited since it makes the music more impactful. I wish they did it for the ending of s7e17 “No Pressure” too where they played the Florence and the Machine song too.

This is the song I listened to for 9 times in the last 3 days... 4 times 3 days ago, when I heard my grandfather died, and 5 times today, one day after his funeral... Awesome song.
As a guy who never gets emotionally invested in a show, I watched and finished this show 6 years ago when I was almost done with highschool. This was the only show I have ever seen that brought me to tears and it felt like I lost someone close to ME when she passed. I do not think anything will ever top this in my life. Thank goodness I have my lebenslangerschicksalsschalz. I just hope nothing like this ever happens in my life.

The reason why Klaus doesn't use a valid German word here in this scene is because this is from Ted's memory and not the actual scene itself. Ted doesn't understand German, and anything that Klaus had actually said in German, he just remembers it as some complicated German words - the words shown in this scene.
@@JP30th you're not dumb, even as a german it took me some time to understand that it prolly wasn't meant literally..but I definitely think it's up for some interpretation.. even though, Klaus doesn't use a common german word, the translation: lifelong-destiny-treasure/sweetheart sounds so wonderful to me
But when Klaus goes off speaking German when he thinks Ted can understand him, he is speaking real German. Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz when broken down, does roughly translate to ‘lifelong treasure of destiny’ just in more than one word.
30th May, a month after my greatest heartbreak, I was suddenly reminded of this song today. Came to revisit the scene on RUclips today. I was chasing my Robin, obsessed, trying to force destiny, but I have to accept that I cannot make someone love me, I have accept that they do not love me the way I love them. I have to accept it no matter how painful it is. However, I feel I was meant to see this today. I have been a Ted Mosby all my life. Chased love, given my all, accepted the bare minimum and called it love. I am in the Season 8 of my life, and I look around and see myself all alone. But this gives me hope. Leaving this comment today hoping I will find my Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz one day. And the day I find him I am going to come back and watch this video again.
in my understanding "the funeral" is due to the end of the search for love, Ted was about to meet his so the funeral is from his old life because of Tracy's arrival. The writers may have put it just because she died, but I prefer to see it differently.
On that note, i think it also harkens back to Ted and Marshall joking about getting married after you aren't looking for anything serious. Ted begins to finally give up, and then meets Tracy
Lebenslanger Schicksalsschatz is not something that develops over time. It is something that happens instantaneously. It courses through you like the water of a river after a storm, filling you and emptying you all at once.
It is a very talented thing to get a song to make the scene 1000 times more powerful. You need the perfect song and use every moment perfect. And they have done it absolutely brilliant.
This scene is even more haunting when you think about it because the song is Funeral by Band of Horses. Knowing that as Ted tells this story he's remembering his wife and that song comes on makes this part of the story so achingly haunting. This song is pure raw loss distilled into music. Combined in this scene it's potent.
This scene just goes to show how unique HIMYM is on story telling. My heart pounds everytime I watch this scene. The 2nd best scene from HIMYM for me. (1st has to be the reveal of the Mother on the Final ep of 8th season)

This is one of those scenes where, logically you know the message (love at first sight) is kinda BS, but with the music, the scenes, the voice-over... it just works, and you pretend it’s true.
It’s not bullshit. Love at first sight, the both way kinda type, works. Because instantaneously, 2 persons are attracted to each other, and instantaneously both want to build something and taking compromises about issues the other might have, and at the same time they want to fix their problem for the other one. Love at first sight is everything
Funeral’s the name of the song and then she dies at the end of the show. They must have planned it for a while then. This scene is more beautiful then before.
Tracy is great, she can't be killed off her love lives on in the fans and in us RIP your with Max now The when and where have became one Ted and Tracy have became one and no ending can take that away. Just like how nobody can take that away from you.
My favorite scene is when Marshall is talking about his dad after he passed....a story of how he saw his dad as a hero while sitting in the backseat and his dad driving through a snow storm somehow knowing where to go. And that thats how he feels after his dad passed, lost in the snow not knowing where hes going now that jes gone. The little reenactment they made reminded me of being a kid. Kind of crazy...
When I watch this, after I get all emotional, it makes me laugh at how much the ending of the show was ill received. I thought it was perfect. It's life and it was foreshadowed throughout the series.
I have no idea why, but this scene is my favourite from the whole series. Such a masterful execution, the music, the location, the dialogues, the foreshadowing, perfect.
This scene is amazing. It just reminds me of how I met my wife. It was a random blind date. I had no idea how much love, sadness, laugh, tears, disappointments and triumph i would experience with this person. I love Diana. 18 years strong!
I just don’t understand why they had this whole speech over a Barney/Robin and Ted/Tracy moment and then had Ted/Robin end up together in the finale, which directly contradicts everything they have said in this scene. The main reason HIMYM is my favourite sitcom is because of the layers it has to it and how many easter eggs they manage to throw in there. Off the top of my head I’m thinking of when Ted came into the bar in the green dress a year later to prove the writers didn’t forget about that storyline, or the episode-long countdown to Marshall’s dad’s death, and there have been many more. The writers are clearly obsessed with the small details in the show so it just baffles me that they betrayed all of the character development they set up for Barney/Robin/Ted and not to mention TRACY by throwing it all away in the finale
Once Klaus says "if you have to think about it, you have not felt" I start to get chills. But they kick into overdrive everytime older Ted says "But the where of it"
I found it, I found her, I lay here crying with this in the background wishing she were here, she's all I want, all I need. I've never felt this way and I don't know how to tell her

'I love you, I'm always gonna love you till the end of my days and beyond. You'll see.'
This scene encaptures perfectly the essence of the show, just brilliant❤
I heard this song in the last season of "The money heist" on Netflix... And i had no idea it was played in HIMYM before!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Who is here after watching LCDP trailer and remember this scene
Once Klaus says "if you have to think about it, you have not felt" I start to get chills. But they kick into overdrive everytime older Ted says "But the where of it"
That foreshadowing...
Best scene of the entire show!
This scene is just too perfect! 😭
It gives me hope that I can find my lebenslangershikslotz.
They seriously dropped the most insane transition bro
I think this scene and song resumes very well what this show means to me
I feel like I’m right at this point in my life. When Ted says “unfortunately the when of it is still a little ways down the road” it crushes me.
absolutely the best scene of the show
This Show has shown me so many good songs
Oh boy, didn't realize this would be the first time I heard Bob Saget's voice again after his passing, I may have teared up.
wow this song is used in so many shows and films. I mean deservingly so, it's a beautiful song.
2:54 literal chills every time
Its weird that the song foreshadows more than just their meeting
Why does this makes me sad...
When will v?
Either you lost her, or you lost the ability to love. Peace to you ☮️
I found it, I found her, I lay here crying with this in the background wishing she were here, she's all I want, all I need. I've never felt this way and I don't know how to tell her
And kids that's how I started listening to "the funeral by BOH"
