I think S6 and S8 are probably the deepest and most emotional seasons out of all the 9. I love this show so much. This show to me is like Star Wars to Ted. I watch it in sickness, in happiness, in bad times and in good times. Emotionally, it’s very well-rounded. I don’t feel about any other shows like this.
I used to feel that way about this show too but now I have a hard time watching it all the way through since I watched it a lot with a now ex-girlfriend. Maybe one day the show won't make me automatically think of her.
i think 6-7-8 were the deepest and saddest ones. I mean barneys everlasting second, robins finding out she was not able to have kids, teds getting the "no" from robin were one of the most emotional scenes in the show.

I agree with Klaus that there is a difference between someone who is just great but not absolutely the one and the one, but I don't agree that it always happens instantly. Some people are friends for years before they start to see each other in that light, some people break up several times before ending up together, sometimes someone can have an unrequited crush for years and then the other person finally falls for them. Sure, sometimes two people meet and it's perfect from the very beginning, but just because that's not the case doesn't mean they aren't meant for each other. Not everyone is like Ted and Tracy or Lily and Marshall. Robin and Barney are actually shown as an example of what Klaus is talking about, and they weren't like that.
I agree with you, but I think the point of the show is give people a bunch of romantic (and life) advice and you pick up parts that you will make use of. Like, there is also the one about how people change and you are nor the same person you were before, therefore "that" person was nor right for the old you but right for the new you.

This scene is quite representative of a key theme of the show. A constant message throughout - which makes the ending more confusing as it does a u-turn on this idea.
Well he was never quite sure about Robin, always changing his mind, and their relationship was very topsy turvy - even though they are good together. His time with Tracey was easy from the beginning. That being said, I don't think it's a very real message - even the most perfect relationships can take a lot of work. It just doesn't fit with the character development in the show. I didn't hate the ending by itself - but considering I watched all the show beforehand, it didn't make sense enough to accept it. I think it should have ended with the scene where Ted meets Tracey at this station, and left it open from there - sometimes less is more.
iQwobble I agree with you that an open ending would have been better. we didn't need to see what happens in the future. But the ending we were given is not one i find very objectionable, what i find annoying was the terrible execution of not just that season but of the entire season 9. Such a massive drop in standards compared to any of the other seasons. That is what made the changes in the last episode so glaring. character wise, they were perfectly plausible trajectories that they took, even though some of them may be unwelcome trajectories for the audience. The idea was original and thought provoking; the execution was what ruined an interestingly conceptualised series
It's more that a lot of the show is about character development, about highlighting how the characters really grow alongside each other, and then they break that character progress down considerably at the end. I didn't object to the death, but the sudden divorce just didn't correlate with everything else they had done or emphasised throughout.
iQwobble Character development isn't always linear and progressive. It can take a U-turn or can regress too when faced with tough situations. That is probably what the story they wanted to tell. But as I said earlier, they did a terrible job of telling it.

I personally think this was one of the most important scenes in the series. Ted was losing hope and God knows what would’ve happened if he lost it completely and settled for the next girl he met. Klaus here made him believe again.

I swear this show is like the Bible lol every time I go through something in life there's always an episode or a moment I can come back to and learn from to apply in my own life and keep moving forward no matter how hard. My favorite tv show of all time. No question.
The reason Robin is crying and Barney is looking out the cab is foreshadowing that they feel this way about each other and Ted feels this way about the mother disregarding the ending
It's simple: Robin is the Beinaheleidenschaftsgegenstand and Tracy is the Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz. But since he lost his Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz, he went back to the Beinaheleidenschaftsgegenstand. Almost perfect(Robin) --> Perfect(Tracy) --> Almost Perfect again(Robin) That's how his life paned out, which is better than it may seem (losing the perfection). I personally would have liked it to be: Almost perfect(Robin) --> Perfect(Tracy) but life kicked in. But it's nice that they released the alternate ending so that each one of us can decide which to choose.
this is tv series, not real life and it's name is "how i met your mother" not "how i ended up with your aunt"... i've got too much sadness in my own life, at least let me be happy for someone else, even if it's fictional
@Meme Thief But my life is my life, my problems are my problems. And fiction is fiction. When i play a game, or watch a movie/series, or read a book, of course i want to know the journey of a character and all the troubles and obstacles... But in the end I also want to escape from reality, which means i expect happy ending even if its cliche.
It's too bad that what most people focus on in this awesome scene is the German accent... The story is from Ted's perspective so the point is that he probably doesn't remember exactly what the German words were and is making up gibberish for the story so who cares if you're German and still can't understand Klaus, that's not the point
@@nicoprieto8979 They are but the pronunciation is really really horrible same as in Grimm he simply does not possess the ability to speak German and thus does not really understand what he's saying and probably remembering the words. Love how he has this big speech about ending up with someone that you’re destined for but the writers had Ted end up with someone he’s not compatible with at all
They weren't compatible when they FIRST met because ted wanted a wife and kids and robin didn't want that, she wanted to become a successful reporter. Well Ted got his wife and kids (sadly the wife passes away) and Robin became a successful reporter. So now they are a good fit,
@@footballchat6940 They arent compatible regardless, its like doing it out of convenience rather than desire. Ted loves Robin desperately, but theres obviously an imbalance and its not as reciprocrated. They are completely incompatible
Here you go: •Ted sees Victoria (Soul Meets Body) • Ted and Robin rooftop (Inside of Love) •Ted kisses Victoria (Spit on a stranger) •Milk (Mother of Pearl) •Ted kisses Robin, Lily leaves Marshall (This Modern Love) • You Stole Blue French Horn for Me (No One Here) •The Platinum Rule (Black Tears) •The Yellow Umbrella (Beautiful Beat) •Right Place Right Time (Glad Girls) •The Leap (Prophets) •ProFFessor and GOOD ENOUGH (Oxford Comma) •We've been on this date before (Rewind) •A Kid needs a hoop (I'll Come For You) •Victoria returns, Barney sees Nora (Victoria) •Barney and Robin, Disaster Averted (Hey) •Tick Tick Tick (Heavy Hours) •Robin moves out. For those that don't know; Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz and Beinaheleidenschaftsgegenstand are only made up words. They do exist in German, but only separately. Lebenslang = for life, Schicksal = destiny, Schatz = treasure, beinahe = almost, Leidenschaft= passion, Gegenstand = object. Then Leidenschaft contains the word "leiden" which means suffer. It is an elaborate joke actually, because in German you can put words together like that as it's possible in English, but you can't do that in many other languages.
Love this speech by Klaus, I have come back to this speech as I split up with my long time girlfriend earlier this week and I realised afterwards she is exactly what Victoria is to Klaus..not quite the perfect girl for me..although I loved her I never really felt that it had any longevity and would end eventually..my perfect girl is out there..somewhere
i am crying even though i have seen this a hundred times. just a 27 year old female with no one to turn to. hope he’s right.. i hope the “when” is somewhere down my road 🥺
Like how this pops up in my recommendation from time to time. Brings back good memories and makes me realize I finally found my Lebenslanger Schicksalsschatz.
This scene and others like it builds up Ted meeting the mother as an important milestone event in the show's timeline. And yet, in the finale it is treated as just this minor distraction on the way towards the end of Ted's journey. Hence why I stick with the alternative: it at least makes me feel like it was worth the wait.
The alternate ending they had should've been the actual ending except for the fact that they made Ted say it was easy instead of the hard part that they had for the official ending
Im talking about end game, if i wanted a realistic ending, id go into the real world and live that. This is a TV show, it's fiction, it's comedy/drama/etc etc, fuck this ending
@@CodeOssyria The thing is, the alternative ending is more believable than the original, you mean to tell me that after all the heartbreak ted went through with robin, he still loved her, and you mean to tell me robin got jealous because he was with tracy? In real life, ted wouldnt want her back not for a second. Especially if she only wanted him when he was with someone he loved.
I'm german and I get a headache to understand the second term he uses..."lebenslanger Schicksalsschatz" (which are two words btw) is never used by anyway, but atleast it's correct. "Beinahe Leidenschaftsgegenstand" doesn't even make sense...
These are no german words. But they should be, so cute. :-D And do germans really sound like that when they talk english? (I'm german and I hope I don't sound like that :-O )
His description of “destined love” is honestly beautiful. We all know how disappointing the finale was in terms of staying consistent to the themes that were presented throughout the show, but I think we can all still appreciate how well this scene was put together.
I don't want to see this series ever again because at the end of the show it broke my heart and it took me week to recover from the shock that the ending gave.
Story Timeee: The first time I got introduced to this show was in first grade. When I was in first grade my mother use to watch this show all the time, and I use to watch it with her, even tho I didn’t understand any of it. but a year or two later she decided to rewatch it. I sat down with her and we rewatched them. I didn’t remember barely anything from the show. I only remembered the theme song, so it was like watching a show I hadn’t really seen. I fell in love with it and it was ( and still is) my favorite show. When I got to the end I didn’t remember Tracy died, so let’s just say I cried for a while after that. But ever since then my mother and I watch HIMYM every year at least 3-4 times each year. I lost track how many times we have rewatched it lol, but I always loved this scene. I don’t know, but it is just one of my favorite scenes in the series.
If only he knew how bad I needed that storage space of "our memories" , needed to move on. But I did it without him. I am now the most powerful person I know. Without him.
it's sad, but the way he explains what ''Lebenslanger Schickssalschatz'' it is possible that you will feel this about someone... but that someone doesn't feel it for you...
The songs were always the keys. Like when Victoria first reappears and the Kinks start playing while at the architects ball. The second Band of Horses kicked in during this scene and they showed the mother I was heartbroken for Ted.
This scene proves that Robin and Barney were that person to each other and the writers took that from us. The gave us that German word that I can’t pronounce or type but they gave us that for Robin and Barney. And what do we have left. Absolutely nothing but heartbreak.
My only problem with this show is the ending! We spent 4 seasons building up to that wedding! İt was amazing and the show just took it all away from us in like 5 minutes...
Fun fact: The song playing the background was also the same song used in a 2008 Ford Edge commercial, featuring none other than the actress who played the Mother herself, Cristin Millioti. A favorite song of hers, perhaps?
I know that. I'm just wondering if it was only a coincidence that it also played on a commercial featuring the same actress, or if there really is some kind of connection between it and this scene.
proper gremlin ted was obsessed with her and only wanted her to fill the role of his perfect woman but without her personality, throughout the show there was a big emphasis on that
this is one of the most beautiful scenes in the entire series.
@-- same
This one and milk/mistake scene are the best scenes.
One of if not the best!
Agreed, and it has nothing about Ted and Robin or the ending whatsoever
@Daniel Newman no it doesn't, the writers said the chose the song for the powerful music and didn't even think of its title
the song playing in the background when tracy exits the car is called the funeral. The foreshadowing here is sneaky AF.
Man, I never thought about that. You think it's a coincidence though or is it foreshadowing for sure?
Knew the song but never thought of that. This show is so detailed, that's why I love it so much.

I wouldn't worry too much, everyone's different. Some people are more intuitive than others.
you need to remember that how I met your mother, even though it's an amazing show, isn't real life, not everyone feels that in their life and even if u don't, that doesn't necessarily mean that your partner isn't the right person for you. Someone doesn't have to be perfect for you to be the right person for you.
agent G 021 what about when people you know or other people you don't know really well they talk about their partner being the perfect one and how they know its the one because of this and that and when both partners talk about it like that... what about that ? genuinely asking
@@captainchumbuwumba5835 I wouldnt worry, Ron Swanson from parks and rec. He's definitely not warm and fuzzy, however you never doubt he loves Diana. I would talk to your partner about if they're feeling loved or not. That should get rid of some stress
This moment changed my perception on many things.... One of the foundations of my life. Best sitcom ever.
I know what you mean. Speech by Klaus is great advice to take and live by
This is one of the most profound pieces of insight from HIMYM
It's simple: Robin is the Beinaheleidenschaftsgegenstand and Tracy is the Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz. But since he lost his Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz, he went back to the Beinaheleidenschaftsgegenstand.
Almost perfect(Robin) --> Perfect(Tracy) --> Almost Perfect again(Robin)
That's how his life paned out, which is better than it may seem (losing the perfection). I personally would have liked it to be: Almost perfect(Robin) --> Perfect(Tracy) but life kicked in. But it's nice that they released the alternate ending so that each one of us can decide which to choose.
Darth Skygamer also she lost her lebenslangerchicksalsschatz too
Victoria was better than Robin imo. I liked her at first but she got irritable
👍
this is tv series, not real life and it's name is "how i met your mother" not "how i ended up with your aunt"... i've got too much sadness in my own life, at least let me be happy for someone else, even if it's fictional
The song and the lighting like crashing at the same time? That was chilling.
First time I saw this episode I teared up and when I saw the yellow umbrella I got goosebumps all over my body I swear
Same for me when I heard Klaus' broken-ass German.
It's too bad that what most people focus on in this awesome scene is the German accent... The story is from Ted's perspective so the point is that he probably doesn't remember exactly what the German words were and is making up gibberish for the story so who cares if you're German and still can't understand Klaus, that's not the point
Wes H ahhhh good perspective!
Omg you OPENED MY EYES!
I understand Klaus. I don't know how any germans couldn't understand him
Those words are real, I looked it up
@@nicoprieto8979 They are but the pronunciation is really really horrible same as in Grimm he simply does not possess the ability to speak German and thus does not really understand what he's saying and probably remembering the words. If you try really hard yes you can understand him but as I said earlier his pronunciation ist quite bad ^^
(I'm German by the way)
"Filling you and emptying you all at once"
Yeah, I know how that feels, once I was eating at the toilet, it is a beautiful feeling...
Bruh 😅
"If you have to think about it you have not felt it" that line really got me when I first saw this episode
I showed this scene to this girl I'm dating.... I really hope she's my future wife.....
Edit: she wasn't.... :(
Edit to the edit : found someone else we've been dating for close to a year now . Still going strong and seems like she'll be my wife XD
Edit to the edit to the edit: I'm going to ask her to be my wife this summer after 2 years. Everything feels so simple around her,the future seems bright and exciting alongside her even with all the bs going on in the world .
New is always better !
F
That just means you haven't found your Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz
Bryan Feliciano Damn I felt that.
Maybe shez your Victoria, Stella, but not your Tracey.
Love how he has this big speech about ending up with someone that you’re destined for but the writers had Ted end up with someone he’s not compatible with at all
Exactly.
Robin is the Antichrist
They weren't compatible when they FIRST met because ted wanted a wife and kids and robin didn't want that, she wanted to become a successful reporter. Well Ted got his wife and kids (sadly the wife passes away) and Robin became a successful reporter. So now they are a good fit,
@@footballchat6940 They arent compatible regardless, its like doing it out of convenience rather than desire. Ted loves Robin desperately, but theres obviously an imbalance and its not as reciprocrated. They are completely incompatible
This whole scene with the song is legen... wait for i’ll be back in 2 years..
I'll be waiting..
You better be back
i will....
See you in 2 years
Leaving footprint here to see whether he'll be back in 2 years or not
This scene, the "she's getting here as fast as she can" scene , and the "🎶 Victoria, Victoria 🎶" scene are my favourite
Here you go:
•Ted sees Victoria (Soul Meets Body)
• Ted and Robin rooftop (Inside of Love)
•Ted kisses Victoria (Spit on a stranger)
•Milk (Mother of Pearl)
•Ted kisses Robin, Lily leaves Marshall (This Modern Love)
• You Stole Blue French Horn for Me (No One Here)
•The Platinum Rule (Black Tears)
•The Yellow Umbrella (Beautiful Beat)
•Right Place Right Time (Glad Girls)
•The Leap (Prophets)
•ProFFessor and GOOD ENOUGH (Oxford Comma)
•We've been on this date before (Rewind)
•A Kid needs a hoop (I'll Come For You)
•Victoria returns, Barney sees Nora (Victoria)
•Barney and Robin, Disaster Averted (Hey)
•Tick Tick Tick (Heavy Hours)
•Robin moves out. (Shake it out)
•Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz (The Funeral)
•The Pit (If the Hudson Overflows)
•The Robin (Let Your Heart Hold Fast)
•The Girl With The Yellow Umbrella (Simple Song)
•Bass Player Wanted (Forest Whitaker)
•Sunrise (Eternal Flame)
•Ted Meets The Mother (Downtown Train)
•The End (Heaven)
From the bottom of my heart: I hope you find her, man. I truly do.
@@Migsterium thanks mate
Klaus even though he’s been in like 2/3 episodes made this scene 10 times better with that narration and the song in the background
What kind of sociopathic musician stands in the pouring rain with her instrument when there is a roof like TWO FEET TO HER RIGHT?!
One that's recently been dumped I guess
She also has an umbrella
Nobody asked for your help, Aangler!
I would never do that if I had my guitar with me case or no case
Clearly you’ve never been to a New York train station. Empty platform > area that already has 2 people sitting there.
When the beat drops plus the thunder crash - CHILLS
Goosebumps ... still in 2018 !!
Still strong in 2019!!
2020!!
2024
Best scene in the whole damn show.
That "you're maddeningly inconsistent!" Line always gets me 🤣🤣🤣
i am crying even though i have seen this a hundred times. just a 27 year old female with no one to turn to. hope he’s right.. i hope the “when” is somewhere down my road 🥺
This scene is so powerful. I feel the same...hopefully the One for me is on her way to my life
The transition to the future, and with the funeral and the rain is so perfect
One of the most powerful scenes I have ever seen on TV 🙂.
This scene was the most underrated in the entire show. Comedic and super heart felt at the same time.
the writers are just fantastic, how they bring things together. When the song kicked it, it gave me the chills
They would be even more fantastic if they could research the German language for 5 minutes and not make stuff up.
Best scene still gives me chills⚡⛈️
I love the way the umbrelle is glowing, soooo meaningful and just beautyful
This is one of the deepest scenes in the show.. I just love it!
As a german i can say that everything he says make sense.
EVERYTHING...
It is tradition to come back to this video once in a while
Like how this pops up in my recommendation from time to time.
Brings back good memories and makes me realize I finally found my Lebenslanger Schicksalsschatz.
Hi I come here occasionally to listen to this message. that is all have a nice day
This scene and others like it builds up Ted meeting the mother as an important milestone event in the show's timeline.
Oh fuck that shit, if I wanted realism, I'd go outside
Im talking about end game, if i wanted a realistic ending, id go into the real world and live that. This is a TV show, it's fiction, it's comedy/drama/etc etc, fuck this ending
No, you should stick to the original and turn off the TV when Downtown Train ends. Much more powerful ending than the Alternative.
This show give me a little place that allows me to live dreamly in this rough world. Always.
One of the most beautiful scenes of whole series ❤️
Quite frankly, I love this scene, it’s ideas, and everything it stands for.
klaus is such an underrated actor.
The actor's name is Thomas Lennon
I'm german and I get a headache to understand the second term he uses..."lebenslanger Schicksalsschatz" (which are two words btw) is never used by anyway, but atleast it's correct. "Beinahe Leidenschaftsgegenstand" doesn't even make sense...
Otto Karl is it true
oh so that is what the second word is. I have been repeating and repeating it and gave up after a while cause I just don't know what it was.
These are no german words. But they should be, so cute. :-D And do germans really sound like that when they talk english? (I'm german and I hope I don't sound like that :-O )
well..... have you watched a movie with arnold schwarzenegger? ok yes he´s from austria not germany but still
@@Alegost1 Yeah but people from Austria have a rather heavy and "weird" accent even to us germans.
The pan out with the music and the umbrella....chills.
This is my most favorite moment of the show
Seeing this, and then knowing how it ends is frustrating and so sad at the same time
His description of “destined love” is honestly beautiful. We all know how disappointing the finale was in terms of staying consistent to the themes that were presented throughout the show, but I think we can all still appreciate how well this scene was put together.
No, we can not appreciate it if we are able to speak German and scratch our hats at his babbling. Glad that you Americans enjoy it though.
I don't want to see this series ever again because at the end of the show it broke my heart and it took me week to recover from the shock that the ending gave.
This scene is so beautiful, especially from 1:33, with the beautiful music in the background
Story Timeee:
The first time I got introduced to this show was in first grade.
Klaus became my favorite character here. He gives me hope.
This is my happy place. HIMYM truly has helped me over the years and still is!
This is probably my all time favorite scene of the show. It’s so powerful and emotional and really embodies the main theme of the show.
Maybe my favorite scene of the entire show. Klaus is so right on, man.
as soon as the song starts playing. it makes me tear up. knowing what we know after watching the whole series. Tracy deserved better 😔
This season ending was the best of all! 😍😍♥️♥️♥️
If only he knew how bad I needed that storage space of "our memories" , needed to move on. But I did it without him. I am now the most powerful person I know. Without him.
Knowing now that the mother unfortunately passed away the background music hits different now....
still watching this and still feeling that sourness in the heart and mouth.
Why am I getting chills watching this?
it's sad, but the way he explains what ''Lebenslanger Schickssalschatz'' it is possible that you will feel this about someone...
but that someone doesn't feel it for you...
oh my... you totally broke me right now
Dude that hurts me but it might be true
After everything, they just sent him back to robin. Wow, just wow.
I hated that
The songs were always the keys. Like when Victoria first reappears and the Kinks start playing while at the architects ball. The second Band of Horses kicked in during this scene and they showed the mother I was heartbroken for Ted.
2021 -- Yup, still gave me goosebumps when The Funeral song played. 🖤
Raymond Jiang No im pretty sure it was just foreshadowing
But she was officially cast several years after that commercial aired.
it was fore shadowing on the show
I know that. I'm just wondering if it was only a coincidence that it also played on a commercial featuring the same actress, or if there really is some kind of connection between it and this scene.
Raymond Jiang i think it was a coincidence
The song selection. I swear to god no other series has ever thought the scenes this much.
No matter how many times I watch this scene, I quiver inside. We all have a Robin in our lives. 💔
His schnitzel 😆 He's not interested in Teds schnitzel!!! xD
Why did he say schnitzel?
The schnitzel thing sounds like its used like the german equivalent of baguette.
I have many complaints about this show but damn, that was one of hell of a speech by Klaus
Now I want to watch it all over again
this scene never fails to give me chills
The mother is liebenslachyshizelshaz thingy.... Robyn is d thing that is almost the thing but not quite
i disagree i believe robin was always that to ted but he never was to her
@@historyoutdated1207 creators did confirm that Tracy was Ted's "the one", not Robin
proper gremlin ted was obsessed with her and only wanted her to fill the role of his perfect woman but without her personality, throughout the show there was a big emphasis on that
One of the most awesome scenes of HIMYM
One of the most favorite parts of the show.
literally gave me chills when I watched this scene
