55 Days at Peking: The Song of 11 Nations [COMPILATION]

- I compiled all of the existing versions of the song "55 Days at Peking" and included subtitles in the songs native Language and in English. I want to thank my friends and family on helping translating the Italian, Spanish and Japanese versions of the song. The Japanese English subtitles may be a little inaccurate but it was the best we can do without Google Translate. This was heavily inspired by the video made by Dr. Ludwig ( / @dr.ludwig ) here on RUclips.

A fun fact: Republic of Korea Air Force has been using the instrumental tune (the version used as the opening of the classic movie) as a 'wakeup song' for its recruit training camps. It is imprinted into all Air Force recruits' mind. Exactly, they take the ports hence have the ability to manipulate emperial market. They also spreading a lot of provocative message to the people to join revolutionist.
The next thing is, the european sold their weapon to the revolutionist, therefore the revolutionist have more leverage and can do physical conflict. It is proven by how they force the loyalist to shave their head, confronting the lords and the generals (sometimes they kill them lol), and opressed monks who help loyalist refugees (this is why a lot of temples get burn down in the war).
Of course the empress know whats up and rage war by mobilize the army and order the people to retaliate. A lot of christian chinese and european people get killed in the process. This is what the colonials want. In the name of "defending their citizen", they mobilize their army.

All this camaraderie between nations, and it still wasn't enough a mere 14 years later.
When I learned World History in America, I really wanted to learn about the Boxer rebellion. At first I just thought it was some rebellion that was fought by America. I'm shocked that we didn't go over the greatest crossover in history
It doesn't have a big effect on American history.
Yeah I like learning about stuff on RUclips.our schools don’t teach it to us.
@Лука Барајић that is true
America history focuses on... America because it is American history. Guess what if you learn English history you will only learn about English history, or if you learn about Chinese history you will only learn about Chinese history. World history is a separate subject and even then that has to cover the broad spectrum of the and worlds entire history so it mainly focuses on the general shifts and changes of the predominate civilizations in the world from the start of civilization to now. You go into more depth history if you choose later in college.
@@a-drewg1716 the issue is american history is too focused on the US anything after napoleon is "resent history" and therefor not taught and even then you're not likely to learn much of anything about the rest of the world for me most of my history classes revolved around the natives and the settlers i do not recall anything other than that being taught in school everything else i know is because i went out and looked for it

Germany mentioned all nations, while Noone mentioned Germany 🇩🇪😪
Well, most nations around that time hated or didn't trust the German Empire, besides Italy, Austria-Hungry, and the USA. Italy and Austria-Hungry had an alliance while the USA had a trade alliance and close ethnic ties with the Germans.
@Maulfick Manfred then they betrayed the Germans near the end of WW2
Well tensions were high at this point Germany was building a huge navy that british and other nations did not like
@Maulfick Manfred we hated Austria more than germany itself because they owned italian regions. And thats why we declared on Austria and only later on germany
@@felicepompa1702 do you remember about Italian's impossibility to withstand against Austrians:) and it was just act of treason against the central powers...

Trying to translate Japanese lyrics
「The year was 1900
55 days in the city Pekin
Human as bullet, hitting each other
Upon the boxer Rebellion
Make the Allies, turning to be enemies
Crowd of Rioters, clashed in the great battle
With French, English, Italian and Russia
As well as the Japanese elite
The glory Pekin, only to be the street of death
Under the call from the Empress of Qing,
The soldiers from Qing, charging to Allies
Without the fear to die under fire
Their war cry echoing, upon the silent street
The drums and the trumpets, sounds so bravely
The glory Pekin, only in the blazing fire」
I'm just a freshmen major in Japanese, I'm not sure my english translation is in 100% correct but i'm doing my best.
To explain some, first I need to say that the lyric in video is not correct in some place
this is the correct lyrics(Transcript by Erika):
時は1900年 55日の北京城
肉弾相打つ 義和団事件
連合軍を 向こうに回し
決戦挑む 暴徒の輩
フランス イギリス イタリー ロシア
さらに加えて 精鋭日本
華の北京 いまや死の街
清国女帝の 号令一下
連合軍に 突撃かける
死に物狂いの 清国兵士
喊声市街に 轟き渡り
ドラム ラッパも また勇まし
華の北京 いまや火の海
some explanation
Human bullets" is the direct translation, it means "Soldiers charging like bullet"
連合軍を 向こうに回し= this one i'm not really sure what it mean, so I translate directly. Sorry if there is mistake
The Rioters"
Elite Japan" I guess japanese are the only one that praising themselves in this song
華の北京 = In japanese "華の(n.)" is not really about flower, is about the greatness, beauty, florid etc...
The sea of fire", not sure how to said this in english
This is really interesting and I’m sure it’s a lot more accurate than the subtitles in the video. Maybe one day I’ll actually make an updated version and I’ll most likely use this translation. Thanks for commenting!
I am Japanese. Good translate. thx.
I want to fix in detail.
1
(Chinese )make enemies of Allies.
"向こう" is "Other side". But this word also means "Enemy" or "Enemy side".
Crowd of Rioters challenging (us) to decisive battle.
"挑む" is "Challenge".
The glorious Pekin, now is the street of death.
"いまや " is "now".
2
Soldiers of Qing, charging to Allies forces, without the fear to die, under the call of the Empress of Qing
This is one continuous word.
(Qing soldiers are brave. ) The drums and the trumpets are also brave.
