    What annoys me about people like Cory are that they come across as so enlightened, so wise, and so condescending, while at the same time lacking Biblical understanding. They just create a Christianity that reflects their personal values, rather than Scriptural principles.

      @@lootbird it’s not wrong. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Anyone who reads scripture, as a Christian or not, clearly says it’s wearing. The person in this video gives a few examples from scripture including that a woman can’t wear mens garments and vice versa. Now if you choose to believe it or not is up to you of course. People like to take scripture and stretch it to fit their needs and from a Christian pov that’s not the point.
      I don’t they aren’t wrong in context based on his faith. He’s interpreting it to his own values as the original comment says. No one said that his girls can’t play with monster trucks or climb trees or that he can’t participate in activities with his girls. He could have just left it at that but he didn’t. He obviously feels otherwise to what scripture says.

    • @thecrypt5823

      From the context, it came across that he was saying that his heart was "painted" in the same way that his nails were painted: that is, with inappropriate effeminacy and outspoken defensiveness of it.
      If he was intending to say that his heart was covered with the blood of Jesus, then that message was not clearly communicated and was obscure to many of his hearers, given the context. I can see why people have taken in different ways.
      Either way, I think he was just trying to be fancy with his closing thought. A painterly flourish, if you will, but a poor one.

    So, I actually have known Cory and his family for about 11 yrs. Know his parents and sister. Not him personally too close up, but generally. He comes from a bit of a rough around the edges background. He was a leader in bringing his family to Christ. I can't agree with you more on your take on his nail speech. I don't follow him too much anymore and its quite sad for me to hear what he shared. He's really allowed a worldly narrative to take president over the Word of God. Like the apostle Paul said regarding head coverings, judge for yourselves in the context of where you are, and Do Nothing to CAUSE YOUR BROTHER TO STUMBLE. In this current demonic mesh of genders in America, i think the professing Church has sorely left this admonition in the dust. Those painted nails are causing stumbling. If they weren't, folks wouldn't be commenting on them... SO, Cory...you're not loving your bruhs, bruh. And anything done outside of LOVE is sin. You know this, bruh! God's word states men should wear NOTHING PERTAINING TO A WOMAN, and neither should women, of men. (Side note: Ladies, you want to look down on brother Cory for nail polish? Are you wearing yoga leggings around town??? Totally not modest and honestly, pants in general are not modest bc they're for men to wear. Not women.... so the coin goes both ways. Women have only been wearing pants for about 100 yrs. And started around a time of rebellion and sexual revolution 1900s... and ironically when Alistar Crowly, the occultist, was opening demonic portals all over the West 🤔)
    Bro Cory and all ya Bruhs out there... be MEN. I don't care if my daughters like painting my husbands nails..dont allow them. IF HE DOESNT LEAD THEM INTO GODLINESS AND HOLINESS AND Knowing WHAT A TRUE MAN OF GOD LOOKS LIKE, THEN WHO WILL???? IF my son sees me wear skirts and wants to try one on, i would not allow him. And i would explain why. Where is the Holiness coming from the Worship movt? Perhaps this explains it's powerlessness.... just my passion over this video shared. You got me fired up on this one. Maybe bc Im a worship leader too.
    May we all look like Jesus, in the Beauty of Holiness, without Spot or Mixture, for Our God is ONE and is an all consuming Fire!

    Hey Doug. Serious question for you if you see this comment. I have been attending a church for just over three years now. I am a 24 year old man and part of the Young adults group, although haven't attended regularly. I've been attending the church consistently and the past 6 months or so have steadily been more and more concerning with the direction of the church. Talk about social justice and queer things has come up in messages although nothing clear has been established as far as the nature of both items and the sin or acceptance of them as normal and good. There is contention among congregants and the leadership seems disconnected from what I can see. The YA group has just announced they are watching a new movie for a fellowship night that is godless and glorifies sin. I don't want to leave as I have come to love the people there and don't want them to drift away from God, but I am unsure if I can do anything about it... I feel the need to talk to the leaders about it all and ask some questions, but I'm not sure it'll be fruitful or if I'll just be asked to leave the church. I would appreciate any advice you might have as well as scripture to reference a course of action generally or specifically. Thank-you

    Even if…and I mean IF, he obliged his daughters and let them paint his nails, why go out like that? If your explanation is that you were playing with your daughters, is it necessary that you keep it on? I play dolls with my daughter sometimes, I don’t carry a Barbie around with me. His explanation of why doesn’t compute with his further rebuttal about cultural norms. It’s not really about playing with his daughters, it’s about submitting to effeminacy.

    A few days ago I heard the actual etymology of the word “scandalous”. It’s fascinating. And it has to do with being a stumbling block.
    It is scandalous that he does this, because he is being a stumbling block to others. Everyone in his society believes that painting nails is a feminine thing to do, after all it’s his daughter who does it, not his son, but he still doesn’t care the slightest about people who will be scandalised by this. That is the opposite of what the apostle Paul teaches.

    The very common failure of a modern interpretation of God is love combined with wilful blindness to the fact that God is also truth and justice. This in itself is downstream from the libertarian mindset of hyper individualism where culture and community are relegated into insignificance.

  • @samuelfreeman2452
    @samuelfreeman2452 2 года назад +1

    I do get what you are saying, Doug; however, I recoil when we so narrowly define what it is to dress or act effeminate. We do get far too legalistic with it - at times; and in those times, we create dissention in the church by making mountains out of molehills - which is also against biblical guidance.
    At the same time, his response also creates dissention. Instead of offering a positive justification for allowing his daughters to paint his nails, or offering even one edifying remark, he simply levied accusations against those asking questions. And it is important to note that he took a straightforward and inoffensive question and interpreted it as a personal attack, that is the more important element of this than any question of effeminacy.
    We are not called to be hostile reactionaries - but rather the opposite. And if a pastor fails at that on a very basic level, then the flock will fail on it as well.
    A man permitting his daughters to paint his nails is not heresy. Just the same as a man having shoulder length hair is not heresy. Just the same as a woman wearing pants is not heresy.

    • @gregb6469
      @gregb6469 2 года назад

      These things are not heresy, because heresy has to do with doctrine, not practice. But a man acting effeminate, or engaging in activities normally associated with women, such as painting nails or wearing long hair, is unbiblically sinful.

    • @samuelfreeman2452
      @samuelfreeman2452 2 года назад

      @@gregb6469 semantics aside, my point remains. It is not so cut and dried as a literal interpretation of any cherry-picked verses might have a person believe. I respect Doug Wilson immensely and have no idea who Cory Asbury even is.
      Having said that, I think they both miss the mark on this issue. Doug is arguing from an interpretation of Scripture that has only emerged in the last 250ish years. Cory is assuming the mantle of victimhood. Neither is entirely right, nor are they entirely wrong - yet both are more wrong than they are asserting.
      To see what I mean, I urge you to reread the entirety of 1 Corinthians - where the doctrine of men not wearing long hair is based - instead of just chapter 11. If you read what precedes and follows that apparent prescription, and do so thoughtfully, it is evident Paul uses the claim about shamefulness of long hair as a rhetorical device. Moreover, it is specifically targeted to the Greek audience of Corinth, where culturally it is so. This device is not at all to make a point on effeminacy, rather about shame and humility (very broadly speaking and not superficially) and placing the Godhead at the forefront of all ministry.
      We know this is a rhetorical device and not intended as a doctrinal prescription because 1) in the early church, long hair is the norm (to varying degrees) outside of Greek and Roman lands, 2) for 2000 years Christ has been almost universally depicted as long-haired (are we to assume that this was to bring him shame?), 3) Long hair on men is routinely shown as a devotional tradition throughout the Biblical narrative - most directly in the story of Samson - where his long hair is rather a source of pride than of shame.
      In the Pauline epistles, it is especially important to read with an understanding that he uses metaphor to make points. Just as in the Gospels, it is important to understand that Christ routinely makes his points through symbolism and parables.
      Is it sinful to pervert yourself into an effeminate parody of who God made you to be? Absolutely. But being effeminate or acting effeminate is not the same as occasionally doing things that are sometimes considered effeminate by some people in some regions. There is a vast chasm of difference, because as Cory correctly noted what is effeminate in one place to less than half the population, is masculine in other places and among other people. Likewise, what is effeminate to some men is not necessarily what is effeminate to God. Moreover, routinely we see God using the least masculine people in a given situation to move forward His Kingdom (Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Gideon, David, etc.).
      If we cherry-pick verses and build our doctrine without regard for the whole of Scripture, then we cannot claim to know God anymore than the Pharisees - because we are guilty of doing precisely what the Pharisees were rebuke by Christ himself for doing. Notice how I haven't cited any individual verses, but have argued my claim with a comprehensive look at several contrasting examples across the Old and New Testaments, and pointed towards the comprehensive look at the entirety of the book where people point to claim a doctrinal prohibition on men having long hair. Because Biblical interpretation without consideration of the whole is less about bringing ourselves before God than it is about bringing the Bible to our personal biases.
      And I'm not claiming that I know what God deems effeminate, nor am I claiming that any of this is ill-motivated, no man has right to ever claim either of those things. What is in a man's heart and what is in God's mind are things for God alone to judge, but we can still remind each other of error in understanding and execution. And more importantly we cannot grow our relationship with God by narrowing what He has given us to understand Him or by lowering our thought-process exclusively to the literal.
