Keep this trend going! More 100mile reviews!!!
10000% agreed!!!! It's awesome to do the update mile reviews
Great review! Thanks for the update!
Been waiting for this 🎉
I got these the other day. Right now it's the best shoe I've ever used. It feels like I'm running on bounce houses. I'll try to remember to update after 100+ mi.
Where's the update??
Interesting description. Like to Thomas. Cheers.
Been waiting for this!
Thanks so much for the updated review, I wish more reviewers did these. Characteristics of shoes change over time. Most runners are putting in enough miles, they need to know how a shoe is going to feel over the long haul, not how it feels after the first few runs.
wait ...I thought you guys did 20 miles.., and moved on.., hmmm, glad you addressed this at the top.
interesting.., stuff.. glad you guys felt the need to circle back on this shoe.
Thx!!
I always tempted to try another fuelcell shoes. Problem is that the last fuelcell shoes I bought (propel v1 and rebel v1) felt dead after around 320k (200ish miles).
It is as if brands take advantage of most top reviewers only test shoes up to 100 miles. SJD only to 50 miles, BITR around 20-30 miles, kofuzi 100 miles, etc. Some reviewers do take shoes up to 200 or 300 miles, but not many, and of course if they test all their shoes up to this point, they won't keep up with the new shoes that keeps coming out the whole year.
Then, durability issues after the 100mile point is rarely mentioned.
Most reviewers also based their durability prediction to the outsole of the shoes, which sometimes misleading. I mean, unless the rubber is very thin or very soft blown rubber, most outsoles will last more than 300 miles. Even if they got scuffed, it will mostly be cosmetic and doesn't effect the shoes performance that much.
For me, durability is more on how long the midsole keeps its characteristics, which is, understandably, more difficult to assess.
Based on Thomas' review here, I'd figure the rebel v4 will stay good for around 200 miles. After that you can still run in it, but nothing special.
Personally, I like my shoes to stay good for at least 300miles/500km. For daily trainer, should be longer. 600km would be nice.
For shoes like the Rebel v4, Hoka Rincon, etc, most probably I will only buy them after heavily discounted. Not in full price, because I won't enjoy them as long as other shoes anyway..
Love this shoe, sooooo comfortable
I'm just in 50 miles running w/ Rebel v4, w/ this and my previous trainer Novablast 3, I'll say that the Asics were more forgiving when it comes to your legs strength, what I like about the Rebel is its strengthening your legs while running because of its characteristics
Do you find the Rebel much firmer than the Novablast?
@@nordicwilly6650 Yes, Novablast3 is much more high stacked than RebelV4, about 10mm I think, much closer to the ground the RebelV4
Whoa.. 100 miles review 🎉
I love it so far but I am curious to see how it holds up. I'm about 50 miles in.
I tried some (definitely used) shoes at a demo run and the forefoot felt battered in. Totally possible that the shoe just isn't going for a hyper cushion all the way through, but it definitely felt like a big contrast from the heel area.
My rebel v2s kind of had the same issue. After ~50 miles, they lost a lot of the fun factor. Haven’t had that issue with my og saucony speeds, and my og puma deviate nitros are still holding up ok after ~300 miles (not as bouncy anymore, but feel like a good daily trainer)
Hi guys, thank you for your lovely review and your help with all new shoes coming on the market every month. I personally bought my pair of rebel v4, try them for a 10k session and sent back to New Balance. Unfortunately I was sincerely disappointed, the shoes are very soft but not more responsive as the rebel family ex. rebel v3 which on every step literally push your feet to the next, very exiting sensation. The v4 are comfortable, light but for me not exiting at all, not energy return at all and because so flexible and soft I feel the v4 also unstable. They are good for easy/long run maybe, anyway not for me. Thanks
I've contacted NB about returning mine. I genuinely feel so let down.
Hit 100 miles on mine and I do like the shoe, but I almost feel like it's a little too soft and flexy. I love to be able to feel the road, but my feet actually get a little beat up on the longer runs.
It's a 80/20 EVA/PEBA blend, so that makes sense. Too bad that they couldn't have equally split the ratio, but then maybe that might have caused stability issues that some people experienced in the Rebel V2 with an even smaller stack.
Not sure what the V2 compound was but the V4 is 💩 compared to those IMHO. TERRIBLE update.
@@SimonHarrisAdDopeEVA/TPU. Not sure about the specific ratio.
The green colorway just took my money, but I wish it popped a bit more.
It will take me longer to get to 100 than you, but happy to post here when I do. I'm absolutely loving this shoe 20 miles in.
Really? I’ve put about 45 miles in them and I’m super disappointed & they’re rubbish compared to the V2.
I didn’t have previous versions of the Rebel, but did my first 10-mile run in the V4 yesterday I really enjoyed them. Got the feeling of a very versatile shoe.
@@zionpixel Great you’re enjoying them, they’re a little lifeless in comparison, but more stable. Suspect I’ll swap mine out soon if the die as quickly as the video suggests.
@@SimonHarrisAdDope How a shoe feels is often based on personal preference. As a runner with high arches and a wide forefoot, this shoe just fits me perfectly. I never had the v2, really enjoyed the feel of the v3, but that bottomed out on me after 100 miles and couldn't really work for any runs much longer than 1 hour, maybe 90 minutes.
What would you swap them out for@@SimonHarrisAdDope? The Mach 6? Or a plated shoe?
Please compared which is the best to purchase Takumi Sen 10 or Rebel v4.
I ran in this shoe once & I wasn’t feeling the upper. Definitely a short run/speedy shoe. I would’ve liked more cushion in the forefoot.
Thomas: enjoyed this straight talk review. Cut the fluff out and get to the point. I like it! Now, would Between 2 Shoes with Rebel v4 and Endorphin Speed 4 be appropriate?
The plate really changes the dynamics of the shoe for me. So they aren’t shoes I would choose between. Rebel, light and cushioned vs Speed step down super shoe.
I was thinking of the same thing about the Rincon when watching your initial review and this 100 mile review. Rincon felt dead to me after 75 miles both in the Rincon 2 & 3 and not going back to it. I like the look of the Rebel. 3 especially in the white, neon yellow, orange color way but if it’s not going to take me to 300 miles then it’s a no for me.
Rebel V4 or Hoka Rincon 3 for daily trainers and someone who runs for a long time.
Just got mine today in white and can not go out and run tomorrow!!! SO excited!
You’re in for a huge disappointment. They’re genuinely not great. I’d maybe consider returning them.
I have a pair I’m about to throw into the rotation, so it’s good to here this
No, this is not good news. Thomas would not post a video like this if the durability of the Rebel midsole foam was not on Rincon level.
Honestly I’ve put about 45 miles on mine, as a long term Rebel fan I’m very disappointed. They just don’t do much very well. I hope you get on better with yours than I have with mine.
@@sunnlandsI see it as good news. The man can pick from hundreds of shoes to run in (and often has to, due to his profession) and he chose to come back to the Rebel. Do you think he would do 100 miles in these shoes if he didn’t enjoy them?
@@zionpixelsure if you think Thomas saying the midsole foam is slightly more durable than the Rincon is an endorsement, then you know more than me.
I have already bought the Rebel 4 and will report back here when I have more than 100 miles in my pair, I hope you will too, Zion.
@@sunnlands Please do post a comment review, post 100 miles. I almost think reviews should not be done until people have put some real distance on them.
There are people really down on this shoe, but still a lot of positive reviews. One guy actually thought the shoe got better with time. But, if this thing does have Hoka Rincon level durability, it's a dud, however it feels initially.
Wake up shoe people, new type of BITR video dropped
My opinions, and the shoes themselves, often change beyond 20-30 miles. I think that is an important component when recommending a shoe to those of us who want to get 400+ miles on a shoe in order to justify the cost.
I have a hard time seeing any reason to pick this over the Novablast 4.. The Rebel is lighter but the Novablast gets you just as much if not more bounce and at least twice the durability at the same pricepoint.
Does the novablast 4 have durability issues ?
The Novablast 4 isn't as bouncy as this and frankly I think they're very different shoes.
The Nova has become a built-up, almost workhorse daily trainer IMO. The Rebel is still more of a speedy, light daily trainer than anything else.
@@DingoDirk88 I've had four pairs of the novablast v1. I second everything you've said.
Have you put on a Rebel 4? They are way more bouncy and squishy and than the Novablast 4. There is no way I would consider the Novablast 4. The shoe is just not nearly squishy and bouncy enough. Obviously the rebel is no streekfly... So I'm disappointed to find that the bounce dissappears this quickly! Sadly Nike shoes are far too narrow for me.
Hi, i want to know is it worthed if now im using asics novablast 4 and change it to new balance rebel v4? Is it worthed or just keep it going with my novablast 4? Thanks for ur opinion guys
This and the Mach 6 are on my next to try
I'm a long time Rebel fan, but you should probably skip this version. The midsoles in mine are dead after less than 100 miles. I've actually contacted NB customer services to see if I can return them or change them out for something else. I'll probably get the Mach as well they look awesome this year.
I chose the Mach 6 over these when I went into my running store and tried both. It’s been a good while since I loved a Hoka this much but they fit me better (my foot is medium/narrow) and I got a much better lockdown on the Mach. They’re nicely cushioned and fun. Not as wild as the Rebel4 but I’m getting the impression they will last much longer so glad I made that choice. The Rebels seem very baggy on my forefeet, too.
The Mach wasn’t out when I got the Rebels but Subsequently tried them though and they seem pretty nice, either those or the New Speed when I’m done with the rebel. Good take on the Rebel platform being really wide (especially vs previous iterations) workable with a runners knot, but far from ideal.
So wats good for easy days
9 half marathons 😂 yeeeze!
I feel in the forefoot not cusion enough compare with another shoes like Novablast 4. But if you want to feel running on barefoot, u should try it
cause the weight of this shoes is really really light.
Which similar shoe is not dead after that mileage?
Which one should be better to buy in terms of longevity and all day comfort? NB Rebel 4 or Nike Winflow 11?
Rebel
I love the feel of it, I was so surprised by it especially it without a plate! It's an awesome shoe!
It’s pretty mid, especially when compared to older generations, in particular V2.
@@SimonHarrisAdDopeI guess I’m the minority that V2 was ok for me. 😅
@@nathaniel23946 The Rebel V2 was amazing, I had two pairs. But this version continues the decline seen in the V3 IMHO. Of course that's all subjective but the midsoles going after a really short amount of time (
@SimonHarrisAdDope are you just going around with negative replys to every comment 😂
@@user-qe7fb6gd6c Warning off as many people from making the same mistake I did, the V4 doesn’t last & I’d hate others to make an expensive mistake.
Loving this show but I could see it dead by 250. Not that I’ve lost anything at about 10 miles but it is soft and light which doesn’t scream durability. Using it for uptempo days and the Novablast 4 for everything else.
Sounds like my Vaporfly V2.. Went flat at the 100 miles mark..
Waiting for the New Hoka Rincon
Ouch!!
This feels like a polite way of telling us to avoid the shoe. Thanks for the 100-mile update!
100mi I guess is a lot of miles for a reviewer... but I tend to run my shoes 400-500mi
Does it “bottom out” compared to v3?
No
Would you go for this, or the rebel v3 at half the price?
I have the V3 and love it
Wasn’t a fan of the x3
With the V3 on sale right now for only $50 each (for a pair) at Joe's, it's a no-brainer of an alternative to the V4, which is nowhere near 3X better than the V3 and will likely be liquidated this time next yr. I tend to wait for hype to die down and they go on sale, since being late to the party while I enjoy what I own drastically reduces the impact on my bank account. Keeping up with the Jones' (e.g., YT reviewers) is a money pit for those of us who aren't subsidized. Kudos to the relatively few reviewers, e.g., Hes Kicks, for making a point of reporting good deals when they drop.
I promise the v4 is 3x better than the v3, but to each their own.
I have mine and it is fast
Really? Certainly not compared to the older versions. It’s like a glorified daily trainer now.
I think almost all good daily trainers nowadays are built like this, for uptempo and fast days 🤔
@@MrClemencio It's not really a fast show anymore. Not terrible but pretty mid TBH
@@MrClemencio Most daily shoes don’t have a Peba blend or this stack.
This or 1080 v13?
Two different use cases. Soft plush daily miles vs lighter uptempo trainer
Ran 11km out the box...stiff, firm and no real bounce. Felt nothing like v2. Not a shoe I will be reaching for sadly. The size is still a touch short. You may want to go up half a size or that toe bumper material could cause issues.
interesting.. I was a huge v2 fan, the v3 was still 'pretty good' .. but the v4 just feels boring to me, its lost all the fun factor (especially when compared to the v2) .. it now feels much more like a daily trainer (very light one) than a speedy shoe ... love NB but this one let me down straight out of the box (only about 40k in as well)
Hopefully you can give me a shoe size 8 men even if it's use
I’m a long term Rebel fan & I’ve been hugely disappointed in my pair. If anyone is considering these I’d strongly recommend reconsidering or trying them on in store preferably one that has a treadmill 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
I haven’t used previous versions of the Rebel. As my first one, I really enjoy them. A lightweight versatile trainer that can go from easy to tempo and even faster intervals, if needed. Exactly what I was looking for.
@@zionpixel Firstly great that you’re enjoying them! Perhaps I’ve been spoilt by previous iterations, these feel quite lifeless in comparison but they are more stable which makes them more accessible. I kinda wish I’d have gone for the Mach 6, if the V4 dies as quickly as the video suggests I’ll likely be heading for a pair sooner rather than later.
Same here - I tried on the Elite V4 and 1080 v13 and thought the bounce was amazing (they didn't have the rebel V4 to try) but though as the in between they must just be as good. Very disappointed with mine out the box. No really bounce or pop. Just firm (which does make it quick) but no really comfort. I had tried the Mach 6 on and wished I went for them now! As they did have that pop I was looking for. I'm trying to find an Endorphin speed 2 replacement as the 3 were awful 😞 and trying on the 4 feel only a little bit better but still don't compare to the speed 2!
@@jamieoliverjones3775 They’re a pretty trash shoe, TBH. I’m going to take them up to 300km out of a sense of duty and get a pair of Speed 4s. I just retired my ancient Endorphin Speed 1s and I hear that the 4 is more like the 1&2.
Those of you who, like me, went to try out the Mach6 vs the Rebel4, I am extremely happy with the Mach6 and approaching 100 miles with no change in responsiveness or cushioning. They also show very minimal wear.
the dreaded Rincon flattening..such a disappointment of a shoe..
The Rincon 3 was the first and LAST Hoka I will ever put on my feet.
Not my experience, 880kms on my Rincon 2s and 850km and counting on my Rincon 3s. A tremendous light and versatile shoe which I've used from track workouts to long runs and everything in between.
@@ChrisLoudon-xs9lj shoes are so subjective...some work for others..
@@tungvu I felt somewhat that way but just bought the Mach 6 and love it. If you have wide feet it may not work for you but it’s a different animal from any Hokas I’ve had in the past and it’s still great close to 100 miles.
Over-hyped shoe.
So at 200-300, dead? 👎Kinda figured this might happen. For the price, it's not really worth it. Still holding out for the SC Pacer V2....
You can’t expect that this foam lasts more km maintaining the same characteristics, people still don’t understand that each project is a compromise and you can’t have everything 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
@@alb.1911 I have 3 pairs of the Prime X V1 and they all have 500+ miles on them. Still feel great and look brand new. You can expect everything in a shoe. PS I pair $150/pair with the 50% off Adidas sales. Hell, I even have a pair of AlphaFly V1 with 300 miles on them in rotation. Some shoes that are less expensive are more costly per mile in the end...
@@jimoconnor8597 don’t forget that this was only his sensation made by memory instead of comparing side to side with a new pair. Other reviewers and elite athletes didn’t noticed anything relevant to mention after 200 miles…
@@alb.1911 True but others don't run 200 miles in any of these shoes before reviewing/updating or maybe ever. I don't put much stock in the reviews tbh. I try out the shoes myself and test for a few brands. I loved past versions of the Rebel however just like the Hoka Rincon, they seemed to die in the forefoot in under 300 miles. I have 50+ pairs of running shoes in rotation now even. My feet and my foot strike are surely different than Thomas's.
The shoe felt like a total disappointment. Sure it’s one of the better looking shoes out there. But the fit is tight and uncomfortable. The stability is uneven and again UNCOMFORTABLE. nothing special about the run. Can’t pickup the pace as expected. Would prefer an older model shoe from another brand.
New balance could have established their strong presence with this one but they kinda dropped the ball
The colors are so ugly. I hope they release some better ones soon.
This or Nova Blast 4?
For versatility, prob NOVABLAST 4
