I think the solution is not creating a in-between width but have both narrow and wide width editions of the shoe. In-between means lousy fit for both groups of runners.
Man, I'm with Thomas on this one. I was trying to decide between these shoes but I can't stand having a sloppy, loose shoes for my narrow feet. I think all the Rebels are a bit too roomy for me, I gotta go with Mach 6 this year.
@@TolunayOrkunnope, once they make shoes with options, the wide one will get less vibrant color (or should I say dull color) or they only sell the wide version in selected countries, which means sadly won’t be available in my country 😢
@@jakasep8848 So, you prefer bad fit over colors? Even when there are colors I tend to choose the colorway that is a bit more discounted (if available). I think fit is more important but everyone has there own priorities.
I'm getting the New Balance Rebel V4 and other New Balance shoes because they're more accommodating for us wider feet. Hoka is too narrow for me in most of their shoes.
TBF, Hoka offers the Mach, and almost all their shoes, except their Racers (Rocket and Cielo) in a wide fit. For trail running I use the Hoka Speed Goats in wide, and they fit my splaying toes perfectly.
@hamoudalnasser Their wide colorways aren't great and not terribly great either for me unfortunately. My Speedgoat 5's in purple and green are the best fitting thus far for Hoka but used to give me blisters in the more narrow midfoot as well and the laces always get consistently loose the further the run goes on.
@@BroccLeeAV I really like the two colour ways I have: one is kind of a fiery orange, the other almost a sort of plum colour. I haven't had too many problems with the midfoot, and I have high arches. I agree about the lacing. I usually have to re-lace every 15kms or so, but given most of my trail runs are fairly short, it's not a deal breaker for me.
Ralphie is a good sport. Can't wait to get my Rebel v.4. I just ran a marathon in my new SC Elite v.4 and loved them. So, to think there is a super lite version without a plate for everyday training, I am stoked. NB fan for a very long time. BTW, I'm with Megan, more toebox room fan here.
Having tried the SC elite and having a pair of Rebel V4's - I have found they are not even comparable. The rebel is so much duller from a foam perspective.
Tried the Rebel v4 on at a store the other day and could not believe how wide it is. Agree with Thomas here. I don't have a particularly narrow foot like him, but I was sliding all around. I like a roomy toe box, yet my Topos all fit securely in the midfoot. The Rebel was just nutty with that width. I am with Meg on the white shoe love. Btw, would like to see that puppo in more videos!
I just did a try on between these 2 shoes at a running store and they couldn’t be more different! Shocked to hear that y’all think they are similar. I am forefoot striker so I am very sensitive to the amount of cushion/bounce I get under foot, and the Rebel v4 was way too firm! ( I think the measurements might be correct as there wasn’t enough cushion for me) It was an instant “nope!” So I went with the Mach 6 and so far it’s been great.
@ my experience with the 2 shoes was very limited as I only did a try on in the store. Some people prefer that “road feel” and that feeling of firmness, I don’t. As to what that translates to in measurable “energy return”? I don’t know. Mach 6 = bouncy. Rebel= firm
Just finished listening to the podcast where you guys had mentioned about a between the two shoes episode of these 2 shoes (or was it mach x / mach 10? I'm as confused as Meg) and here it is! And yes, you guys made me feel breathless with your endless claustrophobia discussion
I just found the rebel v3 at my local Marshall's for $50. I couldn't pass it up after being down the altra rabbit hole for a couple years. This shoe is so much fun! I've only put about 15 miles into it this week, but just incredible. I cannot wait to get out in the mornings. All feels new again! I'm already considering the v4.
I went down the Altra rabbit hole. All their latest models fit me weird where my big toe has too much space while my little toe gets crushed. I went back to brooks/new balance.
@@brewlovinrunner That is strange. I always loved how they all fit. For me, I cannot stand how fast they break down, if they're not physically falling apart, the ego midsole feels like You're running in sand after less than 50 miles. That being said, I will always love the escalante racer.
I had the Hoka Mach 4, and put 200 miles on it before donating it to the local high school. I really enjoyed the fit and feel of it. I currently have the rebel V3 in my rotation, with 240 miles on it and still using it regularly. The outsole has held up well so I can continue to use it well past 350 miles. Of these two updates, I would probably lean towards the rebel.
you didn't discuss support/guidance. I need a little. thing is- I've just been so happy with the Endorphin speed 3 as my all-around daily trainer and tempo run shoe- combined.
I love this New Balance look for 2024 I already have the SC Elite v4 complete bad ass shoe, now I am waiting for the rest to drop so I can order them all from the SC Elite v4 to the Balos, and the More v5s I will own them all, my most anticipated is the SCT v3 I have the other two and they were fantastic!!! And they are still in my rotation with the addition of the SC Elite v4 !! Love these reviews you all are awesome keep up the Fantastic work!!!!
I hate the heel counter on the rebel, it cuts into my ankle especially when i have to tighten the laces down so much to actually get a decent lockdown in it. They made the fit too wide.
Personally I like bouncy and I felt like the rebel just wasnt responding. I’m 200lbs so maybe being heavier had something to do with it. Still great shoe but I wouldn’t reach for it for a daily run
sometimes the most basic questions are the ones left unanswered in some videos, and unfortunately doesnt get answered too most of the times in the comments. c’mon guys, gotta put a little bit more effort in the viewer engagement area sometimes ✌🏻
I have the pleasure of working at a specialist running store here in Australia, and have to agree with both of you with these two shoes. Love both, albeit, the Rebel being so flexible in the heel has the potential to cause Achilles flair up I feel. Endorphin speed 4 up soon, which will make for a between the 3 episode 😂😂😂😂😊
Tried the rebel v4 in my local store, went on treadmill for a few km, felt a little to soft, then tried Boston’s 12 and that felt more racey, still good cushioning but more lively, then tried one of each and rebel felt like running in slippers, just to soft and flat/sinky, Boston’s 12 felt great… what would you two say between the Boston 12 and rebel v4? That would be a great between two shoes video. 😊
Mach 6 is DEFINITLEY tighter than the 4 and 5. I prefer the 4 and 5 over the 6. Sadly, the magic of the Mach is fading. I ordered the Rebel V4, and I have yet to try it. Other shoe I love is the Tri Noosa from Asics.
Man, you just listed all 3 possible shoes that are on my "next to buy" list. Which do you like the best? I really hate having too much room in the forefoot and I have slim feet. Not sure if that completely rules out the Rebv4 though.
I wonder how the rebel v4 compares to the Saucony speed 3. Both similar price point. Debating on which to pickup for daily miles to pair with my nova blasts 3
My feet ache just by looking at the pointed snoute of the Hoka. I Can no longer use such shoes. Too many years with narrow running shoes has made my feet almost «worn out»😅
It was clearly Ralphie at the beginning but you’re right, it sounded like Robbe at the end. Maybe you planted the subliminal suggestion in my head when I read your comment😂
Y'all narrow footers already got almost every decent pair of running shoes made for you. STOP WISHING THE ONLY FEW WIDE RUNNING SHOES WE HAVE WERE MORE NARROW!😂😩
The Hoka also comes in wide, the New balance does not! So realistically all us wide feet runners would probably buy the Hoka 2e just for the extra width. I like lighter weight, but I much prefer wider shoes.
New Balance please ignore Thomas wanting to narrow up the Rebel shoe. Keep them wide!!

While they have wide options, the wider options are still too narrow/become more narrow in the last versions in several models. Including Mach 5.

thank you for the review, i was really curious about this one
Now please do Rebel V4 vs Novablast 4

Thomas's phone vibrated at 6:33, n i started checking my fone for notifications!! 🤦
Which do you think would be better for long runs up to 15-17 miles along with daily miles
V4
you didn't discuss support/guidance. I need a little. thing is- I've just been so happy with the Endorphin speed 3 as my all-around daily trainer and tempo run shoe- combined.
Thx for that comparision - been waiting for that one. Where would you put the Novablast 4 between those?
I'm sold! Getting a Rebel V4 too!
These seem in line with Novablast 4. Curious how these would compare.
Are these both cushioned enough in your opinions to do very long runs in the marathon training block? Like up to the 18 and 20 milers?
I'm also curious about this.
Which is softer underfoot?
MACH 6 apparently, which swings it for me; makes it slightly more versatile.
Yeah, Mach
I'm in love with the Rebel!
The NB styling is great but they should have done a bit narrower and a wide version. This "normal" version is too wide regular feet.
Let us hobbits have this small victory. You have no idea what it has been like.
Isn't stack height by definition the height of the stack, not the height of the midsole?

Haha same. Rebel, Mach, Novablast on rotation.
😂🤣😆🤭😆😜🤣😆

The video I've been waiting for! Now more undecided as ever lol had the Rebel v2 and Mach 5. May go back to Rebel this time.
More Ralphie, please! Goodbois = good content!

thanks for the video but I still can't decide with one :D

Speed 3
Rebel v4 add to cart
Good morning. Excellent comparison. Like to Meaghan and Thomas. I prefer the NB fuelcell Rebel v4. Have a great monday.
Are you still selling this BITR sweatshirts
They sold out, but we may have something new in the works.
Magan run in the Mach 6 in WIDE?
No
So evil for forcing the doggy to make a pick😂😂
Hello,
Which of the two is More stable please?
Probably the Rebel as it has a wider base. (In both wide and normal fits that both shoes offer).
I see stacks of BITR shirts on those shelves but the website seems to be sold out of large all the time. Those must be all the smalls and mediums. 😂
My feet ache just by looking at the pointed snoute of the Hoka. I Can no longer use such shoes. Too many years with narrow running shoes has made my feet almost «worn out»😅

Where's Ralphie's report on which shoe he would be impressed by?? LOL

Haha he wanted none of it.
I think we need a between 3 shoes in this category, throw in the Novablast 4 too!
All about the toebox, Thomas. 😉
Love your videos...but hate white shoes...HAHAHA
Y'all narrow footers already got almost every decent pair of running shoes made for you. STOP WISHING THE ONLY FEW WIDE RUNNING SHOES WE HAVE WERE MORE NARROW!😂😩
😅😅😅 a little skeptical on the qualifications of these guys
New Balance, if you're listening: please don't dial back on the width!!!
That Hoka colorway is a no go! Vom-tastic..... Have just seen it in all white...looks much better
White shoes always, but done well. There is a tipping point where you just become a nursing student.
It would be great if instead of referring to the shoes as “this one” or “that one” you referred to the brand name.
Narrow foot gang 😅
19 miles (30 km) and shoe doesn't feel as fresh? I don't believe it.
so basically just pick one
Wheres thomas believe in the blunt 😔 we miss u. Iykyk 😂

The Hoka also comes in wide, the New balance does not! So realistically all us wide feet runners would probably buy the Hoka 2e just for the extra width. I like lighter weight, but I much prefer wider shoes.
Completely different shoes.
Hokas are too narrow
I know appearance is a very minor factor for running sboes but hokas look mid 😢
lmao
Nice clickbait
The background jingle is killing me. Please stop.
I watched it on a phone and I couldn't hear it😅
Too bad NB supports Trump. Can’t wear them.
I didn't know that. I won't be buying NB again either.
