Glad I came across this channel. Im a new runner here, and this channel helps a lot :) And incidentally, this Rebel V4 is something I have been eyeing the past couple of weeks already!
I kind of like that it CAN work for both narrow and wide feet. Personally I hate having a wide foot and having to make shoes work that are tailored to narrow feet lol
Agree with hating the wide feet. I have to cross off like 70% of all shoes out there when shopping for a pair, and usually just end up having to pick one that fits my feet, rather than one that I like. Also, wide versions of shoes are barely available outside for NA, and even less so are they found on sale. My feet aren't even that much wider than average
I loved the RBV3 & I’m a Saucony girl. I bought it b/c a Reddit thread that I follow said it was one of their favorite shoes & so many people agreed. I absolutely loved it. So much I bought another pair & a pair for my son who runs track. I wouldn’t use it for a marathon, but for days I want to go faster & don’t want a plate, it shines. Sounds like the integrity of the shoe was lost in this 4th iteration. I feel like NB has enough daily trainers so it’s disappointing that NB didn’t do a better job differentiating it. This is all coming from someone who has yet to try it, but it sounds like I won’t bother. Thanks for saving me $140, Emily!
I love the look NB has brought to the table this year--My prediction is the a LOT of shoes are going to copy the angular/faceted foam look in the next few years. So far I haven't seen a new shoe from NB that I DON'T want. But again, I grew up in the 80's so I'm a visual cripple...
I would love to have a pair as my daily trainer but I already have seven pairs of daily trainers. If I did not I would definitely pick this one up over Novablast 4, Ride 17, Adidas SuperNova Rise and any Nike. Rebel is the kind of do it all trainer that I like. A little more stack height and lighter weight are icing on the cake.
The ability of this to go the full marathon would be a game changer. 5 miles or so is the max distance I could tolerate in the v3, so I’m looking forward to trying the new version.
Given the weight difference, if you weren't looking to spend super shoe money or expecting to PR, would you rather use Rebel V4 or SC Trainer V2 (I assume V3 will be a similar weight but with better foam) for a full marathon?@@RunLikeHeller
well got it and its my favorite shoe right now for my 10 mile walks, I love my SC Elite v4 but it's not as cumfy as this one, and has got me so excited for the rest of the New Balance launch this year! I really have to hand it to New Balance this year that Rebel is amazing!
The rebel v3 was the best shoe ever in my opinion, I have 4 pair of them in rotation 😂 still can’t wait to try the v4, looks good and I’m hoping it’s still as fun as the v3
almost time for the Rebel, can't wait!!!!!!!!!! Oh, I got blistered up really good in my brand new SC Elite v4s I ordered, but I got me some padded socks and it's all good now. I may not have laced them up right that day but was so bad had to call a ride to come get me, but it has not happened again, so I don't know??!!
Great review! I am so excited about the entire new Fuel Cell line this year and will be buying them as soon as they are available. I like the new look and agree about v.3 of the Rebel. They are a bit sad. I do wear them for shorter runs or the dreadmill, just so I use them some.
As a forefoot striker with high arches that sink in bucket seat feeling should be perfect cos it helps with arch support..I do have and run in all 3 versions and will be in V4 as soon as they're available..😊
I must say, I am a New Balance junky. I just got the 1080 V 13. I am definitely buying the elite V4 for race day. For my intervals I moved to Boston 12.... I am very interested in the Rebel... but by the time I am ready to replace shoes The SC pacer/ trainer might be available 🤔😁
really surprised you didn’t get along with the 3.., I got along great with it, and I’m a super surprised by that being a bigger runner, and the pure physics of me and shoes sometimes don’t add up.., so I’m mixed about trying this one.., we will see. Great video.
Good taste young lady !! I will be picking up a pair of New Balance Rebels also the elite and the more v 5s and SCT V4s the shoes all look bad to the bone o and also the new one can't remember the name right off but new to this year it was announced with the more v5s!! my feet can't wait for these new, New Balance to hit the ordering block!!!!!!!
Used the Rebel V3 as my treadmill shoe which I just retired having got to 500 miles switched this next time to the 1080V13 for my treadmill running. I can however see this in my rotation once it’s released. Did go with your recommendation of the SC Trainer V2 and do like the look of the new Elite. NB almost across the board it’s looking like for 2024
Big foot crew checking in ! Gonna check this out. Usually a Sacucony simp but they have had stocking issues for months in Canada. Taking a look at NB this year I think again with their new uppers. In regards to your narrow foot, do they offer these in a B size?
I'm really excited for the whole new Fuelcell line. I really like the look of them all, and the upgrades seem very solid. I like a lot of brands, but I feel like NB came out swinging this year, and I'm gonna be putting a lot of miles on them
Consider me very intrigued! Torn between this and the SC Trainer V2…may go this route for a lighter daily shoe and stick with my More V4s as my long/easy day shoe. Great review! I dig the midsole design and the color!
I like the angular midsole design for the 2024 NB shoes! I have never owned a NB shoe before but curious about the upcoming Pacer v2. The tongue being short and the cinching to get the lockdown are a hard "no" for me and my narrow feet. I'm over it with these issues. If the heel area isn't good and snug/padded and the tongue high enough/locked in/padded, I'm not purchasing. I'm salty right now due to the Saucony Ride 17 tongue not being high enough/slipping to the side completely on one foot, the upper just being too big and very hard to cinch down well and having heel slip. I'll take extra ounces for a padded tongue and heel area!
I may give it a try. I run a little wider in the midfoot so it sounds like this may be a good fit for me. I'm a little concerned that both you and Thomas talked about the compression on the forefoot.
Great review. I get excited when people compare to the OG clifton, and not the remake.🤦♂️I am super excited to for this verson to drop in Australia as I like verson 2, but I just needed a little more stack.for the longer hauls.
Thank you Emily for your reviews. I'm not a fan of high drop shoes, 4mm-6mm is ideal for me. Would it be great for midfoot-forefoot strikers? I'm looking forward to a comparison between Rebel V4 and Novablast 4. 👍
I think the design & colorway looks great , but i think i would prefer not as much sinking down in the forefoot as you were describing & to how long that will be holding up .thanks for the review
How does the foam compare to the previous rebel I absolutely love the soft fuelcell foam in the v2 And I worried the new rebel wont feel as soft and bouncy as previous fuelcell I also have the sc trainer v1 and v2 and love the softness and bouncness of the fuelcell in theses
Thanks for another great review Emily. I have run Rebels 1-3, and with 2-3 I felt the cushioning bottomed out at faster speeds, which the the drawback for me that kept a good shoe from being a great shoe. Do you think it feels more cushioned than Rebel 3? FYI, I kind of like the chiseled look.
Looks pretty sweet this upgrade. I was tempted to get the v3 on discount but finally made it a pass. I am sure this one is gonna be a big hit and as you just said, valid daily trainer and speed workout. Novablast contender kind of, hehe.
Love this shoe, looks awesome. And it will be a nice, do it all, for me. Excited to see the other colorways. I think that blue one actually looks different then what they showed at one of their events
I’m intrigued by the shoe, but the blend being 80% EVA makes me wonder how it’ll handle cold and if it’s really a big upgrade from previous models that had TPE.
The Rebel is my favorite daily shoe. I hope the change isn’t too much. I think this yr the style is similar to the look of past Rebels. I don’t hate the look, don’t love the look. Just hope the ride is just as good as previous.
Supernova Rise is firmer, novablast 4 has more underfoot and slightly bouncier in the forefoot, but Rebel is the lightest of the 3 and still provides soft cushioning with decent energy return. My guess is novablast and supernova rise will be more durable though. It depends what you’re looking for in your running shoe.
Did I miss the midsole specs other than the drop? I guess NB did not specify it? What is your professional opinion? Is it more like the Saucony Ride or the Triumph in terms of how much foam is underfoot?

@@RunLikeHeller Currently running with both, 1080v12 and More v4. Which one would you choose as the replacement, 1080v13 or rebel v4? My heart torn between trying a new foam vs running with something familiar(fresh foam x).

The angular look is amazing and I think it brings some continuity to the fuelcell line. I’m here for it!

And I worried the new rebel wont feel as soft and bouncy as previous fuelcell

Yes more cushioned! But idk about the durability of the foam. Time will tell
Is this v4 foam more softer than v2/v3 foam ? I don’t think you mentioned it . 😂
Yes softer

It’s been pretty cold here and I feel like it’s done fine
Thanks for the review would you choose these over the Clifton shoes? And hi ruby
At the moment the two shoes are very different. Clifton is much more shoe now than the Rebel v4, so it’s hard to say but I’d probably go with Rebel
@RunLikeHeller for me I like the look of the Clifton but would look at the nb when there out .
I’m hoping this pulls me back to NB. Everything NB in 2023 (except the new 1080) didn’t work for me, especially the Rebel v3.
Emily, because of the width issues, would you advise to size down at all ? Really helpful review.
I wouldn’t size down! It’s totally fine lengthwise but you’ll just have tug on those laces real good
The Rebel is my favorite daily shoe. I hope the change isn’t too much. I think this yr the style is similar to the look of past Rebels. I don’t hate the look, don’t love the look. Just hope the ride is just as good as previous.

I wonder how this would compare to the Boston 12. Especially if it's at least just as cushioned in the forefoot as the Boston.
I didn’t try it so I can’t say I’m sorry!
i'm definitely considering this shoe

Fantastic, fast daily trainer.
A much better buy than the new balance supercomp nitro elite. In fact, one of its colorways is almost identical to the supercomp nitro elite colorway.
Thank you. I don't know if I should superblast or get these 🙈❤️✌️🏴
Very different shoes. If you want a lot of cushion, go SuperBlast!

Love your channel! I like the look of this shoe but have other shoes already so won’t be going for this one.
Considering the weather this past week on LI did you feel comfortable making turns in it? Rebel has never had the best traction on wet surfaces
I felt confident making turns when the street was dry! Lol but on snow and ice and I definitely wouldn’t have
Hi
Are you going true to size ?
For an amateur heel-striker looking at bounce and forefoot cushioning, how would you rank these:
Velocity Nitro 3
Rebel v4
Asics Superblast
Triumph 21 (or the 22 with pwrrun pb?)
I don't train and not looking to break speed records, just save my joints on easy endurance runs/jogs.
Thank you for the great content.
Didnt try velocity nitro 3 so I’ll leave it out
1. Superblast
2. Triumph 22
3. Rebel v4
I ranked them like this because both the SuperBlast and triumph have way more foam in the forefoot. The Rebel has a decent amount of energy return for the amount of foam it has in the forefoot, but it won’t compare to the other two
Can this shoe be do it all shoe? Race and daily trainer? Planning to have this when they release 😊
Yes I think it can!
Thank you! Can't wait when they hit shelves 😁
I really like the look of this seasons NB shoes. Maybe we both have bad taste.😂

Fyi, I pronate like you
The heel counter is sturdy-ish but not rock solid so if you need something sturdy like the es3 you might not love this
It looks so much like my blue boston 12.
I need more bouncy cushioning in the ball of the foot. does it have that? I am a forefoot striker.
It’s bouncy but there’s not a ton of it
Hey Heller! Do you think the Rebel v4 can work as as Tempo and workout shoe? Or the Takumi Sen 9 is a better option? I have the NB 1080 v13 as my daily trainer
Yes it can!
What is the stack height?
How about the energy return on this?
Pretty decent because of the peba
I'm a 9 in my street shoes (vans, adidas,...). I go a half size up in Kinvaras (9.5). How does the rebel fit? Would I be good with a 9 or 9.5?
I’m good with my normal size
Firmer than previous versions?
I don’t think so. I’d say softer

Looks a bit like New Balance's version of the Nike Invincible...
Bring back the look of the V2. Glad I bought 2 extra pairs. The design of the new ones is just not as good.
Sounds like the Rebel isn't back if you're using it for easy runs and would take it for a marathon. The Rebel V1 was my track shoe or short threshold run shoe. Sounds like it isn't that all which is unfortunate. There's so many other shoes out there for "every day". New Balance even has that, the 1080.
Look like the shoes , people from the future wear in 80's Sci Fi movies. It's cool but i woudn't try to wear a pair casually.
Les Paul!!
I don't think the outsole will last more than 100 miles.... & for that price, there are better shoes like gel nimbus 26, puma forever run etc..
Gel nimbus is 20 dollars more and less versatile, imo
They ruined the Rebel! This was meant to be a low stack speed day shoes. Now they raised the stack! Very disappointed 😢
Welcome to marketing 101. More cushion allows for a higher price point 😢
A lot of people may feel the same way
Worst looking of all rebels, will wait for brooks hyperion 2
I love it's wider and the foam is great, but...
The tongue is too short and the shoe in totalt is utterly ugly!
