Great review and great looking car, I've owned 4 different Z models through the years 1978 280zx, 1984 300zx, 1995 300z (loved this one) and 2004 350z Roadster convertible. The only thing that Nissan missed was putting T-Tops on this model that would make me want one. For now I'm hoping they'll add those next model, if not oh well, I still have the 1995. :-)
They still retain the 3 gauge cluster on the center top dash just like my old 70's ear design. It also had a manual choke back then and the hood opened from the windshield tilting forward. Boomer and a Datsun 240Z
gotta say the interior isnt that drastically different from the performance trim, so only meaningful upgrades the 10k gives are the bigger brakes, lsd and rev matching. it disguists me that nissan decided to put versa brakes as standard on a 400 hp sports car and this combined with the rear lift at high top speed in base ( top speed is limited in base) tells me nissan is giving a FU to all the customers who wants the base bargain sports car and wants to sell the z at the 50k price tag. and what on earth were they thinking slapping a drain grille at the front lol.
@@jabel242 its much easier said than done. would you really be willing to sacrifice the warranty on a brand new car out of the gate to make it perform like how it should have been from the factory? and you cannot fit an after market rev match synchro feature AFAIK, aftermarket scene is best enjoyed on a beater car whose stock parts are worn thats how i do it anyway.
I’m confused by this video. Title say says base model which is shown at the beginning of video, but during the test drive they are driving an automatic with the upgraded seats so is this the base model or the upgraded model? Also at the beginning of the video the car they were showing was a stick shift and the car they were test driving was an automatic.
If this car was my next choice I would go for the Sport with 9spd auto.....but Nissan needs to include the front & rear spoilers, LSD, and additional monotone color choices( at least as options) ..........If they were to bring out an even lower cost 2.0T 4 cylinder ( say 290hp/280 torque) and lob off another $5k then I would have no hesitation...Why a 4cylinder? Supra is doing this and Supra is the main competition....It would also allow Nissan to occupy a $35k (ish) price point to better compete against the GR86/BRZ on the lower end as well as the Supra on the higher end...
nissan doesn't have a good in house 4 banger in active development so the money nissan would pour in to develop a "cheaper" model will be more expensive
Thanks for the review, but I got to see every single part of this vehicle up close and personal, but not a single shot taken of each side nor any shots of the entire dash on the inside...or some sort of panoramic view. I would really appreciate these sorts of views. I see so many photos of cars taken too close up at at weird angles in so many of these reviews.
I bought a 2010 370z base model. It’s a great car but the resale value on it is very bad. It only has 25k on the clock and Its only worth $15k while the Sport and Nismo version are worth over $35k.
I think the base model is too expensive. It doesn't have the interior of a $40,000 car, and that's partially due to the fact that you can see the bones of the previous generation model in that interior. Maybe they should have, or should offer a normally aspirated version at a sub $40,000 price.
@@vwrxlasvegas Yeah, if Nissan still produced a straight six - that'd be cool. But, sure I'd take a less powerful normally aspirated V6 version of this car at around $35,000. I'm realistic about where I drive, and my opportunities to really utilize a 400hp twin turbo car, and sadly - those opportunities are few.
I have never wanted a base model of any car.. Until now.. The only way one would know it's the base model would be if the driver told them that this 400hp. Beauty 😍 is the base model..
The reviews are in and the Z is not holding up well to the competition. Slower acceleration and the handling is subpar. But if you like the look and want a sporty car to cruise the streets and get a little thrill goosing the throttle like these guys, the base model is the right choice. However, if you want competitive performance look elsewhere. The Mustang and Camaro offer much better performance, practicality, and look good as well. Then the Supra offers better performance and higher quality for about the same money. The car market bubble is popping and this car is just okay, don't pay a penny over sticker. In a few months they will be going for less than sticker.
@@fredwilliams7893 Have you been sleeping under a rock for the past several years? Yes the handling for the Camaro and the Mustang used to be a joke, but that has changed dramatically in recent years, they both did a complete 180 around 2013-2015 time frame. The Camaro in particular with the 1LE handling upgrade is considered by many to be one of the best handling cars on the planet, bar none. You don't have to take my word for it, just look at some of the test data for the SS 1LE (which goes for $45K) or the Mustang Mach One, they are posting road course numbers that compete (and in some cases beat) some very serious cars from Porsche, BMW, Ferrari... In fact there have already been some road course track test comparisons with the new Z, and it is the Z turning out to have very poor handling characteristics. Google "Lightning Lap Results 2006 to 2022" and you will find Camaro's and Mustangs with some of the fastest times even beating a lot of exotic sports cars. For example Rank 67 2016 Camaro SS 1LE did VIR in 2:54.8 Which is quicker than: 2012 Lexus LFA super car 2018 BMW M5 2011 Porsche GT3RS 2014 Audi R8 V10 (mid engine super car) embarrassed Ferrari 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 enthusiast news? Pretty much everyone (even the folks across the pond) knows that these days the Mustang and Camaro are serious sports cars with exceptional handling
I get it I always thought a car I owned will be better than most cars! Its called having a true passion for what you own. But I promise you most people are not taking a camero or mustang serious when it comes to handeling! It comes down to power and wieght ratio with performance! Thats a fact! To heavy man!
As a former first-generation Z owner, the manual transmission model is a no-brainer - nothing but a stick, gears and a clutch (and LSD, of course). Automatics have more electronics and components which could potentially malfunction. Manual transmission = driving the vehicle. Automatic transmission = aiming the vehicle.

@@ToneysReviews Right but there is probably some decent tuning potential in the new Z. I bet you can get 450whp with a tune in a 3,500 lb car versus 485hp in a scat pack that weighs 4,200 lbs. Also those mopar cars get terrible gas mileage. I think it's closest competitors are the mustang GT, 240i, and supra. RS3 and S4 being AWD might attract a different audience.
@@rambow70 Have you seen this MPG for this car? It's only 19.7 (man)/22(auto) combine, lol. This car fails in every cat.
And you can not compare a "tuned car" to a "non-tuned" car. That not even a fair comparison because you can also tune the MOPARs.
You are free to do what you want with your money, but at the end of the day this car is over priced.
Let me ask you this, why spend 54k or 40k, when you could spend 49k or 57k on a BMW 240i and destroy the Z in every way?
Meanwhile the Aspec integra with all of its ground shattering 200hp cost 43K…wtf😵💫
the acura interior completely annihilates the Z's in features & looks..the Z has a better engine but that's about it
@@dizzybone2000 Sure that is until Acura decides that the 2024 model will come with a TypeR engine option!
@@dizzybone2000 the Integra does not beat this car in looks. not even close
Right? Integra is priced horribly. I was disgusted by the price.
@@chickenmuffin Yeah it’s priced too high for such little performance you get. I’d rather get a 6speed 2.0T accord over the integra.
I’m so happy manufacturer’s are starting to not intentionally putting inferior head lights on bad model cars.
Francisco, even base model Corvettes have had superior headlights ever since 2005. To be honest, even a base model Z06 from 2001 would be a better track car than this stripped down Nissan. This doesn't even have LSD. Lol
@@JungSooLeee most people don’t need an LSD. LSDs don’t really matter until you are at 7/10s and most people can’t drive that good anyways. The base Miata doesn’t have an lsd and it is still fun to drive.
@@postalpancho Wow. I kibdly disagree. You and I have gotten along fine in previous videos and I don't know why this is happening now. I know you're a better gentleman than this, sir.
I love the rims here! The look much better than the black ones. This is a nice looking ride.
You only like the rim of the wheel? What's wrong with the rest of it?
a Targa top version would look awesome
Yes sir!!! A 2024 version is a must for me or how about T-tops...
@@Robbover yeah, a T top like an old Pontiac Firebird would look awesome too
That’s a clear winner
This makes sense for someone looking to mod the car. Why pay for spoiler, wheels, exhaust etc if youre going to replace them anyway. If this can be spec'd with the LSD, that would probably be the ideal configuration for modding.
Awesome video of the all new Nissan Z!!! Great job guys!!
Bad news, this car will cost around 80K-90K. I was on the waiting list and they offered to me at that price range. They still don’t know the price of the car but their markup is 30K above MSRP so no 53k. This offered was given by my local dealership last week. I live in Delaware.
I have a 2003 350Z base, and not having an LSD is not the end of the world. I would gladly put $10k back in my pocket. If you are an enthusiast with disposable income to track your car regularly then by all means pay the premium. I am not that person though.
My 240sx has 462 whp & 411 wtq and ran that on open diff ..... it was a one wheel wonder even with MT drag radials. It was horrible. So imagine 350 tq at 1600 rpm to 1 wheel ...
Maybe if your not getting on it or driving like Miss Daisy, then its ok. But most who buy this car WILL step on it and its going to spin one tire and not go anywhere.
I will easily get the performance model because it has the lsd with big brakes and the 19x10's in the rear so i can put on some sticky 305's .... and it has the better suspension because i dont plan to lower it at all ...
This is the cleanest-looking sportscar I've come across. Love it.
This is the first video that I've watched of the new Z where I was impressed with how it looks. The clean look of the base model looks better imo.
I definitely prefer the base model now that I see this. If I want a black roof, I can always wrap the roof panels.
Love the look of this base model SOOOOOO much more than the performance versions.
@@ToddDolce but it's ass, bad brakes and OPEN diff which is insane, Nissan is forcing peeps to get the shit 50k version that has the performance pack but gets clapped by 50k supra
@@ForzaMonkey Anyways, the base model for 40k is ass, you get bad brakes, and most importantly an OPEN diff, all competitors have lsd's, it means traction is horrid and handling takes a nosedive, even the civic si and gti have lsd's. you're forced to get the 49k Z to get the LSD, good brakes, rays wheels, spoiler, better exhaust, and decent interior(base interior is SAD as you can see), problem is at 49k you['re at Toyota supra pricing, which easily beats this car with a better engine, platform, and interior.
@@roboticvenom1935 Big Bummer. Yeah I figured there had to be a catch. Oh well a hard pass for me then. Friggn Nissan.
Any word from Nissan as to WHEN the Z will actually be in showrooms in the USA? I want to see one in person and sit in one, and possibly test drive one. My last Z was an '87 300 ZX in 1988.
You should see them next week
I used to have an 87, it's in my pic. What a special car, but awful to work on
Wow!! This will be my only one Nissan sportscar for me to be able to afford one someday with the Nissan GT-R as well. Overall, fantastic job and video bro.
Actually if you look in the used car market, you can actually find some solid priced GTRs. Of course very few are priced close to 40k.
I owned quite a few of them back in the late 90’s. I think even the 91 model stickered over $40 back then, but that was also one of the downfalls of the car.
That's crazy that a 1991 Nissan Z cost over 40 thousand dollars! Adjust for inflation and that means the 1991 Nissan Z costs 70 thousand dollars in today's money!
@@braetonwilson4296 that was the biggest issue with that car. Their final year production was 1996 and they were over $50. The competition in the early 90’s was the RX7 turbo, Supra turbo, Stealth and Corvette.
Did you actually drive the base? I think you had an auto transmission in the clip where you were driving the car?i would like to know how the base compares to the higher end car while driving. Thank you for this video, it’s the only one on the base that I’ve seen!
He didn’t drive the manual.
We only had 15 minutes to check out this specific model so we had to just cut to the automatic model we drove earlier in the day for some context
@@CarConfections I understand, thank you!
Reminds me of my 1973 240 Z.
The markup is going to be insane.
A great design...but they will soon change the LSD option and include it . SO hang on if you want to buy one
Tire size looks too small for those wheels. I can’t stand when it has that stretched look
I prefer the single color look over the black roof versions. And no heavy black wheels to make it look slower.
Agreed 100%.... Now, design me one with a Targa or T-top for 2024. Then it's a wrap!
Looks insanely good in this color.
Nissan and Honda fcked up. No LSD on base Z, No LSD on Integra, Manual only on Higher trim Integra, LSD only on Higher trim Z, they both fcked up. And both overpriced piece of shit.
I’m happy with my Elantra N. Got it for MSRP $33K and puts a smile on my face everyday.
Also the akebono brake upgrade can be done for under $1,000.
The more I see the new Z the more beautiful it looks! I had a 350Z which was a great, pretty car, but this one Nissan knocked out of the park! This one looks good even without the spoiler.

The base was the one to buy of the last model at $30k Canadian (23k USD)
Great video! Happy 4th!
Buying the base model is usually best. I did this with my STI so I could add the aftermarket parts I wanted and make it my own.
Your sti has a differential. This one doesn't, which means it's a 400bhp grocery getter.

They still retain the 3 gauge cluster on the center top dash just like my old 70's ear design. It also had a manual choke back then and the hood opened from the windshield tilting forward.
Boomer and a Datsun 240Z
Finally someone reviewing the base model
gotta say the interior isnt that drastically different from the performance trim, so only meaningful upgrades the 10k gives are the bigger brakes, lsd and rev matching. it disguists me that nissan decided to put versa brakes as standard on a 400 hp sports car and this combined with the rear lift at high top speed in base ( top speed is limited in base) tells me nissan is giving a FU to all the customers who wants the base bargain sports car and wants to sell the z at the 50k price tag. and what on earth were they thinking slapping a drain grille at the front lol.
Agreed. DIssappointed they don't have a 5K upgrade for the lsd, bigger brakes, rev match.
tbf some ppl who would buy the base model would be tuning and modifying the heck out of a stock Z
@@jabel242 its much easier said than done. would you really be willing to sacrifice the warranty on a brand new car out of the gate to make it perform like how it should have been from the factory? and you cannot fit an after market rev match synchro feature AFAIK, aftermarket scene is best enjoyed on a beater car whose stock parts are worn thats how i do it anyway.
allot of complaining these cars wont be here much longer sadly its not a big money maker for them
I thought he said; "smaller brakes." and I'm surprised they didn't put sportscar wheels/tires on it. So, plenty of go... not so much turn or stop. 🤡
Were you using the paddle shifters ? I didn’t see you shifting when u squealed the tires.
40K MSRP? or final Price? The Integra was supposed to be $34K...
Great review & info The Z is very hot.👍
Question is do I ditch the Camaro SS.
I’m confused by this video. Title say says base model which is shown at the beginning of video, but during the test drive they are driving an automatic with the upgraded seats so is this the base model or the upgraded model? Also at the beginning of the video the car they were showing was a stick shift and the car they were test driving was an automatic.
Great review guys. And the sound this thing makes is beautiful
Thanks!
I am purchasing this car! Have a Sentra and it is quick. I couldn't imagine 400 HP. GEEZ!
That ornery laugh during acceleration is priceless!… 😎
I like the base, reminds me of a Jaguar F-Type
My dad has the same color too black cherry. And red interior
Best looking Nissan ive seen in my life TBH
Great video!!! Looking forward for the release of this model Z!!! Awesome!!!
Does this base model come in automatic?
$40k not bad at all it’ll probably be around $700 per month 👍
Same price is what I'm paying for my truck
I dunno what no limited slip differential be … but I ain’t paying no 10k more for it …

when will we be able to build & price them
Does engine have dual port direct fuel injection valves to burn off carbon deposits?
are there even pre orders for this yet?
This or a more expensive 2 L base supra? This steals the show.
Really not too stingy with features for a base model for sure 🤔
What happened to the iconic "What's going on RUclips " opening? Another great video by the way
I bought a 2010 370z base model. It’s a great car but the resale value on it is very bad. It only has 25k on the clock and Its only worth $15k while the Sport and Nismo version are worth over $35k.
Can't wait to get my hands on one of these.
I think the base model is too expensive.
It doesn't have the interior of a $40,000 car, and that's partially due to the fact that you can see the bones of the previous generation model in that interior.
Maybe they should have, or should offer a normally aspirated version at a sub $40,000 price.
NA with straight 6 engine!
@@Incomudro1963 they should slap the vhr for base. but I guess they really didn't want to waste any money on r&d and production planning
Darn, I love this car... I am anxious to see how much it will cost here in Canada.

$46,498 msrp
I'd go for the base but, the obvious blank buttons and premium fuel is a downer. The base in Rosewood is beautiful.
The.mustang and camero? Lol. I mean I love both those cars but in the handeling departement the z would dominate
@@fredwilliams7893 Car and Driver rated the Z in last place in a four car test. Mustang was first, Supra second, BNW third , then the Z
@@davidbach7003 i believe it! I love mustang and cameros i had a 97 cobra. But lets be honest they are pigs in the corners!
For example Rank 67 2016 Camaro SS 1LE did VIR in 2:54.8 Which is quicker than:
2012 Lexus LFA super car
2018 BMW M5
2011 Porsche GT3RS
2014 Audi R8 V10 (mid engine super car)
embarrassed
Ferrari
2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S
2018 Porsche 911 GT3
enthusiast news?
No LSD. 400HP going to one wheel.
Like the cleaner look without the tacked-on front splitter and rear spoiler.
that 'ball' shift knob is so cheesy.. I remember driving new 300zx's in 1990 and the manuals had a very high end, satisfying feeling
I like it. Only complaint is the interior looks like it would get boring rather quickly. Looks a bit dated to me. Hmmm tough choices 🤔
I agree. I have the 50th anniversary 370Z and to me, it looks way better than the base Z. Atleast mine has some red accents. You’re right, tough decisions!

It's funny that we are still talking about Nissan z but where are they? Dealers are selling old Z for 50K. Why would they sell the new one for 45k?
I didn’t see you shifting on the test drive, so I guess you were driving the automatic? ( both hands on wheel while acceleration)
At 6'6 1/2 would I be able to fit in it?

40,000$ is a fortune these days. The price of food and housing has been sky rocketing here in Canada. A small electric truck would be the best option fir purchase here especially because our winters are so friggin long
Like the base model. Not having a LSD is a bummer but shouldn't be to bad to upgrade, because that is the only other thing I want out of this great little car.
