    One piece of information I didn't find in this video:
    If you upgrade to a faster PCIe Gen4 SSD you might want to plug it instead of the original NVMe SSD, and use second slot for the original SSD because one slot is PCIe Gen4 and the other one is Gen3.
    I just upgraded my SSD on my Gigabyte G5 KD and needed to identify which NVMe slot was PCIe 3.0 and which one was 4.0 since. It's written nowhere on the motherboard, the manual or manufacturer's website..
    I think the one in use out of the box is the PCIe Gen4.
    The empty slot has an inscription "SSD2/SATA/OPTANE" next to it. Meanwhile the specifications page on gigabyte's website mentions : "2x M.2 SSD slots (Type 2280, supports 1x NVMe PCIe Gen3 & SATA/ 1x NVMe PCIe Gen4)"
    I figured that the one labelled "SATA" had to be the PCIe 3.0 and the main one PCIe 4.0

    • @AleXZander96
      @AleXZander96 Год назад

      This is what I was looking for all over the internet... 🤦🏻‍♂️ at one point i've started having doubts about not having a PCIe 4 support. So how did it went, is the original slot the right slot for PCIe 4 ? Also, what PCIe 4 did you go for ? I can't decide which one to buy yet. I'm looking at samsung 990pro at the moment.

    • @Cayled174
      @Cayled174 Год назад

      @@AleXZander96-_- YT kept deleting my replies because I forgot external URLs were forbidden.
      Yeah it worked in PCIe 4.0 on the first slot. And I got an SSD very similar in specs to the 990Pro, it's a Mushkin Redline Vortex 2To PCIe gen4 M.2. It costed 130€ where I live from a website called "alternate fr", but you can get it from Amazon US for $115 right now I believe, which is at least 30% chearper than the samsung.
      To be clear, such a disk in my laptop is probably overkill, but originally I needed an external SSD and I thought that instead of buying a cheap SSD (since most NVMe enclosures are limited to 10GBps or 1200Mo/s) that I'd upgrade my internal drive and use the old one as external storage. That's the only reason I purchased it. If you're not constantly moving/opening huge files for video/audio production, it's probably not much of an improvement I'd say. Regards

    Hey first of all thanks for the vids, made me decide to get this over the Acer Nitro (from a solely peformance perspective)
    I know you sold your one and moved on but I'm leaving this here for anyone else.
    Inside the box that the laptop came in there is 1 rather thick thermal pad in a bag
    Looking at the stock SSD, it looks like you're supposed to put it on the bit of metal beneath the SSD
    Then install the SSD on top and just kinda squish it onto the pad
    and it just kinda soaks some heat away from the SSD Controller through the PCB I suppose?
    An odd cooling setup but I guess it works

    if youre going to open a laptop, its worth changing the TIM with something better than the stuff manufacturers use, which is almost always trash. not that you'll be seeing large differences, but the number of times ive found plastic chip borders, between the heatsink & the chip is many. i just do it out of practice. i recently upgraded a neighbors laptop, & she was asking if i turned the fans down, because i changed the TIM, and fixed the improper seating of the heatsink. now they dont need to spin so fast
