You can always tell older animated shows becuase they have this burst of amazing animation when some bored Japanese animator went a bit too hard. Love the animated avatar you're using and the pink aesthetic! Looking forward to episode 2.
Man I love that old animation so much. Shame it was never a full series. Would have loved to see more of that sea serpent. Also you're right it's so incredibly rare to see the heroes fail in a story and that makes this kind of unique.
So many army guys and robots and what have you but we couldn't have two contemporary mermaid toy lines. I just can't agree with their priorities. Thanks for sharing this , looking forward to more!
Toys companys think their Audience is dumb. Look when the cartoon The Batman aired they would not allow a Figure of the Joker dressed as Batman saying it confuse parents and upset kids who wanted a regular batman yet it was in the show. Another case is the Hero Mashers Monsters line they was European only because they was Original creations and had no tie in Media. Like why do you need for some original creation based on classic movie monsters you saying no one in US would want a Blue Punk Rocker anthro Werewolf action figure or a Fire Grim Reaper.
That seahorse Seastar reminds me of "Serendipity the Pink Dragon" appearance-wise. This movie is like a precursor and a parody to Disney's "The Little Mermaid".
A very pleasant video! Some good research and a fun setup with the CRT as the focus. I'd recommend turning the intro and outro music down a smidge in editing, it was noticeably louder than the video itself. Definitely look forward to seeing more lost animation treasures.
Shame this didn't become more of a thing! I absolutely would have been obsessed with it as a little kid. I had a lot of VHS tapes of older cartoons from the mid 80s (I myself am from the mid 90s) like Rainbow Brite, various assorted seasons of Care Bears (the cousins ones were my favorite), and like a single episode of Noozles that I watched so many times that its still to this day burned into my brain.
Great commentary! I probably wouldn't ever sit down and watch the whole cartoon, but I love obscure 80s and 90s cartoon gems, so it was fun to watch your summary.

I wanted this doll but forgot about it. I never saw this when I was a kid. My mermaid desires started with Saban adventures of the little mermaid. I snuck out of my bedroom for this cartoon at 6a on Saturday.
I'd sign a contract to become Shiba's indebted servant in a completely loaded against me wager. Edit: reminder to self to have water breathing be part of the terms.
Sea Wees look like something you would find in a generic cheap as chips gift. Not sure how Sweet Sea would lose to Sea Wees, but I guess the court system was hocky at the time. Quantity over Quality i guess, or they didn't like the Japanese and their quality toys.
It's hardly shocking that an animated special for little kids would have a simple plot. I'd go as far as to say simple and reliable plots are the comfort food of film and television. In addition, modern movies and TV may have glitz, but they rely on abysmal writing most of the time.
@@FurryFoundFootage That goodness for indie animation and independent comics. That's most of my modern 2D intake. And I personally do not mind simple stories as long as simple ≠ stupid. One of my favourite recent animated things is Sherlock Yack, made to be a child's first Sherlock Holmes, but so much love was put in the art and dialog I can enjoy it no problem as an adult. It's simple, but it's good. And actually funny when it tries to.

Obscure waifurs are best waifurs
So, beautiful animation, boring oversimplified plot for little kids........... the typical tragedy endemic to animated movies and shows.
