Thank you so much for doing this video! Followed your trouble shooting steps and had the same results on a 2003 Dodge Caravan. Ordered the part and put it in and the van started like there was never anything wrong with it. Saved me tons of money and time chasing the problem. People like you are awesome for sharing their knowledge with the rest of us!
Who cares about the music if you find an answer of your car problem if you don't like the music just don't watch the video. Good job master your job is helpful.
Thanks so much!!! Everyone is complaining about the music but it helped soothe me when I was stressed about my stupid van... It calmed me down enough so i didn't break stuff. Great how-to!
This video is very helpful, we are about to put ours in the garage and thought it was the starter and are glad to know and be able to ask our guy if it might be the ECM PCM and not the starter. I also stumbled onto this video when I was looking for the location of the starter in the vehicle. Thanks so much for this video dynoegg's channel!
I dont understand why there are negative comments on this video. I am facing same issues with my 2004 van and if you just listen and watch carefully, you will learn something. It will keep you from spending $$$ on things you dont need for your vehicle. Great job on this video!
I'm dealing with this issue on my Wife's van and this video has been a huge help. Thanks for the troubleshooting tips and the thorough details. Great job!
Super!!! A very well thought out and presented troubleshooting guide. I was impressed you showed the book schematic for viewer verification and instruction. Thanks for the vid. Best Wishes n Blessings Keith
Cool Video.Man I was stuck and forgot to follow the signals and see who was not working. I bump tested my starter to the positive terminal and It is good. Your video was a big help. Now gotta find a ECM for a good price. Thanks times over.
You are soooo good with titling items with clairty, best seen. love music working on cars is somewhat disruptive to the mind the music calms the nerves a bit as your voice does. no reason to panic. thanks for your video and info.
Sounds to me like it would just be cheaper and easier, to run a toggle switch from the battery to one side of the toggle, then run a new wire down to your starter. This is the way I've been starting my race car for years. And it's sure a darn sight cheaper than 300 plus dollars. But it's a very informative video. And thank you for taking the time to upload it.
Thanks for your video it really helped me; however I have hearing problems and the background music was ittle loud and made it difficult hear your commentary. Otherwise great resource to solving my problem.
P.C.M. is a common problem on these vans! Mine went out and I lost trigger to the alternator so it wouldn't charge. (The P.C.M. is the voltage regulator.) Why they would put a computer in an engine compartment is beyond me. Last time I checked computers don't like heat and water and salt.
I'm having the same trouble! I tested the starter operation by simply jumping sockets 30 and 87. Starter turns. Now I just have to figure out why the relay isn't getting a signal from the switch. Accessory relay operates but the starter relay won't close. (I did swap the two to rule out a bad relay.) I'll check some of the connections at the ECM. Thanks!
my mom's car is doing the same thing it don't start when you turn the key it does nothing I can hear the relay clicking sometimes it starts sometimes it don't right now it's not doing nothing for the last 3 days I will try what you said to do hopefully that is the problem eliminates some of the problems but that was a great video thank you
What am I missing in the video. You got the pen light on showing continuity. so did you the single factor being since the light came on to 31 then the pcm must be bad. thanks. the source of problem
I think that I am having ECM issues as well. My problems started with a battery indicator sensor. I hooked up an analog tester and determined that the battery was good but noticed a spike in voltage from my alternator. You could also see the voltage spike affect the headIights as well as all my instruments acting crazy almost a rhythmic response. Faulty sensors pop up too. This only happen after the van is started and running for a few moments. Not immediatly upon starting. Any advice?
Thanks need help find which computer is broken so this video helped now need to check tcm and the music is cool like that beat I think I know who sing that Nirvana
Where did you find a new ecm/pcm online? How much did it cost? Did they program it? Having same problem and thanks to your video have narrowed it down to pcm. Please provide info. Needed to repair. Please and thank you.
Thank you for the video. Did you have to do any programming of the ECM? Is this a plug and play module that doesn't need the mileage and VIN programmed in to it?
Where did you purchase your new ECM & did you have to take it somewhere for programming? I'm having to replace mine & most places are saying its not plug & drive.
My 2008 Honda Accord got caught in a flood up to middle of the doors. Towed it home and dried it out as best i can, tried to start it with no luck. I will say this the ECM went off while my car was in the water.. if that matters. What do you think? How can I bring it back to life? (before I accept it as a total loss with my insurance company) reason is Geico's offer is lower than avg retail.
I thought the visuals and your communication enhanced video. I liked the still shots with the titles on the parts an pin connections. What allowed you to eliminate the starter being bad. I understand you have continuity but the starter could have been bad. Right?
My son has a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country that tried to start and then nothing. My question is did your van keep popping the 10 volt ignition fuze every time you tried to start the van. His does.
While ignoring the music, I learned a lot. This is a very valuable video. THANK YOU. It not only shows a systematic approach to identifying the problem BUT it also shows how to remove that freakin' PCM. Thanks Detroit for burying the third screw so you have to remove the headlight to remove the PCM. God you guys suck.
Did you check the antitheft module for codes or data PIDs regarding antitheft? I have a Dodge Durango 05 4.7; I've checked all wiring integrity and all checkout ok, the only thing left is that the PCM is unable to talk to the WCM module as it is showing P0633 and does not ground the starter relay. NGC/SKREEM Status "Engine Kill Command" is what I see from the WCM module thus the car will never start. Also, per the manual, the P/N signal from the transmission range sensor grounds that pin along with the antitheft, at this point I'm condemning the PCM. Currently, the injectors are not firing but coils are (antitheft lockout) from what it looks like. I may have to order a new PCM, is the engine supposed to crank with a no start condition if there was anything wrong with the antitheft? Thank you!
Just finding an ECM for our Dodge at this point would be nice. We discovered a ton of corrosion on ours, about a year ago. Tried to clean it up, but it's acting up again. I found a place that sold them, and was sure I bookmarked the site, but now my bookmarks are all dead.
I have no continuity..triple checked made sure it wasn't just a broken light or wrong pins. I have a 1998 chrysler town and country 3.8l. what is my next step please. I have been trying to figure this out since it decided it didn't want to run. it turns over just doesn't fire up.
Did you have to reprogram the ECM? I've been helping a friend with his 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. It has a design flaw; the wiring harness for the fuel injectors is too close to the engine. The insulation on several wires melted and touched. I'm wondering if the wires touching damaged the ECM. And does the ECM really need to be reprogrammed or is that just a myth the mechanics use so they can charge more money? Does anyone know? Buehler, Buehler, anyone?
I have a 2002 Caravan and it has a starting issue but after many attempts it will start I have a question, were did you get the new pcm? I would like to go with a good company. This would be of great help. Thanks!
Easier way to test for this exact problem wld b to jump the relay should crank. If it does now unplug the tps sensor an check for a 5 volt ref. If no ref. voltage, to eliminate a lot of time checking for short to ground u can clip the 5 & 8 volt reference wires a few inches from the pcm and recheck if no voltage right out of pcm then u need a pcm if the voltage returns then u have a short to ground. This is very common on chrysler vans.
Thank very much for your vidio , my van 1999 v6 3.3 had problems Ac fan not turn so that ac not working. New compressor Ac condenser filter dryer Evaporator No leak had refrigerant inside But cooling fan not turn Had replace fan relay May be high pressure sensor Problem. But I buy 5 high pressure sensor check it by compresure air ..found it no change resistance on multimeter Went to shop charge me $960.00 dollars still no t working need more one thousand to replace everything. My old car not valued that money. Could you make a video how check high pressure sensor. 3 pins. Thank
2002 T & C 3,8L IT won't start. When I turn the key lights, ac and windows work. The relays clicking is the only sound from the engine. When I voltage test - Nothing from Battery, Starter, Starter wire, pin # 31, pin #85 pin #87 . Please any suggestions........
PLEASE help! I have a 2003 dodge grand caravan in the shop right now. They are going to charge me $2000.00 to replace the PCM, the front module and some other module. Does the sound right? Please help me before I go through with this. Thanks so much!
We have thesame van but 2007,Doesn't start I don't know if the starter? Or where is the problem and how look like the starter of 2007? Thank you help please...
Help. I have a 2003 Dodge Caravan and the mechanic that put in a used computer 5 days ago didn't know how to start up the van today. Could you refer me to a mechanic here in the SF bay area who could help me. I love your video, I am not confident I can fix it the way you so easily show us how to on the video. I'm must a mommy of 3 who can't figure out all that. Help :) Thanks
Hi! I just got a dodge caravan some yr as yours. I am having a problem with it starting. It won't start in the AM when it's cold. Replaced starter, ignition switch and cylinder, and battery. Where u having the same problem with cold start or all the time? Plz help. No one knows anything. Your video is the closest I've seen to an answer. Thanks for sharing!!!
How about letting us know what was going on with the van to begin with? Did it crank and not start? Did it not crank at all? Were the lights and other electrical working? Did it just stop working one day or did you have issues leading up to not starting or not cranking??????
1. Did not crack so it did not start. 2. It did not crack, see question #1. 3. All other electronics worked (yours might vary.) 4. I was surprised that morning when it happened. This is a very focused video and NOT meant to be comprehensive. Use deductive reasoning when applicable.
My 2001 caravan won't start. It sounds like its close to starting but just wont. I put a new battery in it and hooked it up to a code reader and got p0601 pcm needs replaced and reprogrammed. Although I seen this can keep a car from starting sometimes a car can run with this error. Any ideas? Could it be a fuse? Im planning on ordering the part tomorrow and just wanted to see if any automotive savvy ppl had any suggestions
The simple stuff first, check the wiring harness to the module. Look to be sure it is seated properly and there is not obvious damage. Other than that, you need to reprogram or replace it. Better of replacing it as this error can come from an internal short. It is possible to open it up and look, but only after replacing it.

I'm dealing with this issue on my Wife's van and this video has been a huge help. Thanks for the troubleshooting tips and the thorough details. Great job!
Same issue. Like you was very frustrated chasing the problem. Replaced the starter too. Just ordered the replacement. If it works you are the hero!

Listening to the music and your narration made me think of Bob Ross for some reason. Thanks for the video it was very helpful.

@dynoegg: Thanks for the video. How can you tell if the Starter is OK? Did you hear the Starter turning?
very helpful, thanks
Hey Thanks ALOT!! Ill Try this. However: What type of tester did U use for testing ?
I'm having the same trouble! I tested the starter operation by simply jumping sockets 30 and 87. Starter turns. Now I just have to figure out why the relay isn't getting a signal from the switch. Oh, by the way, the music was nice. It relaxed me enough to want to concentrate.

did u have to get it reprogramed also?

did you ever solve this problem?
I have the exact same car including the color. If the break was on the path coming out of the ecm I would install a second relay to start the car.
Helped me thks
where did u buy it
?and did you know how to test the map sensor in the same way ?
I just put a 2005 3.3 caravan engine in a 2003 caravan that had a 3.3 in it and it won't start. Any ideas?

yes everything came out fine
Was this a no start no crank situation? I can't even hear my fuel pump
HI,ARE YOU USING THE SAME KEYS?.because the pcm was Replace ..
I changed the ecm and had the same problem smh. Is it possible that it’s the fuse box
How about letting us know what was going on with the van to begin with? Did it crank and not start? Did it not crank at all? Were the lights and other electrical working? Did it just stop working one day or did you have issues leading up to not starting or not cranking??????

I have tried auto zone, advanced auto, and van senus. No one has the PCM. Where do i buy it?
so the control module is where I get power to the coil
My 2001 caravan won't start. It sounds like its close to starting but just wont. I put a new battery in it and hooked it up to a code reader and got p0601 pcm needs replaced and reprogrammed.
