    An awesome concise video. Good camera angles, no senseless chatter. Excellent.

    Rediculous how many things have to come off just to take out cylinder.

    Someone tried to steal mine but thanks to a good security system they couldn't get it. This video was a tremendous help for me to replace mainly the switch housing. Thanks again. Really very helpful.

    Excellent video. So nice to see someone who came prepared to make a video. Every other video on Caravan ignition removal I've found consists mostly of bumbling and rambling.

    I see your video is about removing the ignition tumbler. At least in old-school terminology that's what we called it. Thank you for also including the removal of the Black Box, better known as the ignition switch, in the video. But the title is indeed "How to remove an entire ignition". So you covered all the bases. Thank you!

      @@TheOriginalMechanic I just tried to rewatch your video and it won't start, just keeps replaying the ads over and over until about five times through, then your video started. Just thought I'd let you know. You might want to consider posting on Bitchute or someplace as well.

    Excellent guide! Thanks so much. Perfect timing, our 2001 needs a new ignition. I know it won’t be exactly the same, but should be pretty close.

    All of these caravans have a similar setup to this guys caravan, however there are some differences. For instance, my 2005 doesn't have the tab on the ignition switch that was in the video. Overall great video but keep in mind there are minor differences between year models.

    I have followed most of your videos to do the repairs on my '99 Caravan. I replaced the fuel injectors and gaskets and the hydraulic lash adapters like you showed. I don't think I set them if they were supposed to be but I definitely put them where they were supposed to go. But I've got this crazy leak that is costing me a jug of coolant every three or four days. I thought it was the water pump going out and the weep hole dripping but it's a ton. When I look at the engine block underneath the throttle body area there is coolant that's running from there and even pulling up on the block in between the cylinder heads. Which is not on the same side as the water pump. I hear things like sloshing behind the dashboard when I start up the van. I know the coolant's gone when it won't blow hot air. I'm trying not to have to buy a whole another vehicle and I've done so much work to this van because of your videos that I hate to think do one more thing to it to save it. I'm trying not to just walk away cuz I worked so hard. I put more into this van that I got for free because of your videos then any sane person would. But it's mine and I take pride in it. I wish I could just post a video of the engine and have you maybe see something I don't.

      When these vans get this old odd problems can crop up. I finally retired my 2000 this past summer when the oil pan rusted out, the rear brakes didn't work anymore and the engine started to stumble on the highway...and the body rust was so bad it was embarrassing lol. As for your problem, while I never had that one, it seems to be in an area where it may not be too tough to find. A hose or pipe or clamp or ? Thanks for using my videos to keep your old van going. I'm flattered and impressed. Good luck with your problem. Seems like it shouldn't be the one that sends it to the scrapyard...like mine.

    Why did u need to disconnect black switch?? Wasnt blocking anything. Could have removed switch before u disconnected blaack box but this video isnt about ignition switch, its about switch an switch housing

      I have always been told, the part where the key goes in, is known as the ignition tumbler. The ignition "switch" would indeed be the black box. That's just what I was always taught.

    Great Video, if i want to put in a push button that i can press to crank and start the engine in my van, do i have to connect the push button to the yellow wire from the ignition switch and the key-in ignition sense wire and the ignition switch out put wire? apparently there are three connectors on this caravans ignition switch, they are label: ignition Switch C-1, Ignition switch C-2 and ignition switch C-3, thank you for any information you can share.

    • @nrgyzr2012
      @nrgyzr2012 3 года назад

      Not sure which one you're referring to. But the ignition switch would be the small black box on the left hand side of the steering column. The ignition tumbler, would be where the key goes in. At least that's how I've always been taught.

    How could I go about being able to do this ir just replace the actual lock cylinder inside it if the the key is stuck in the off position?

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  3 года назад

      Try tapping on the key with a hammer. Sometimes that will free it up and allow it to turn so you can remove cylinder. If not the entire ignition may need to be replaced.

    My 2001 dodge caravan starts fine and runs, but when I take the key out it still thinks that the key is in and you get that chime noise when I open the door. Eventually it causes the battery to go dead even though the door is closed and the chime isn't happening. At first it only did it with one set of keys we have, but now it does it with both. Anybody have any idea what's wrong???
