SVT Swapping My Ford Escort

- A few months ago I blew my engine at Summit Point Raceway. In this episode, we will tear apart the engine and find out what happened. Also, we will replace the engine with an SVT Focus Engine that's got fully forged internals as well. Hopefully, in time for it's next race.

Jeff seems like a really great guy and friend. We need more Jeff's in the world
Ma name is jeff! And we like it!
I have a Toyota Corolla that I've had for years so I can really relate to the escort..
The Gotcha Man right! I have no fucking friends to begin with hahaha. I could call on people if I needed serious help but I’m not sure I’d rely on them. Jeff you can tell knows his shit, and is a good guy!
My name's jeff too
Jeff here, there's plenty of us to go around.
I lost it at the 10mm on the floor. Great job as always!
Thanks Freddy!
Tavarish is da man , do a video with Jeff
NutriFIT nutritie si fitnes No put a OEM Ferrari engine in it
It looks that you need a Escort mk2 in your life!!!
They weren't able to finish the swap in time because they couldn't find that 10mm at the end of the video
hahahaha!
It's always the 10mm that's missing. Always.
@@mikedrop4421 always! That's why I have like 5 of them!
@@123andme, where? Scattered around your house?
They sell them in 4/6/8 packs on amazon, best purchase ever!
Still blows my mind that you guys don't have a million subscribers. Some of the best content and best cinematography on youtube, these look more like something from a TV show than a youtube channel, great work as always and I can't wait to see this channel grow
Well since it blows your mind, here's why I haven't subscribed (though I realize I'm not speaking for any/everybody-/-else):
The whole "put it back together as fast as possible for drag/race/whatever-fest/meet/blabla" only to destroy a forged motor taking the typical deadly shortcut in the wrong place kind of ticks me off in the Discovery/History Channel sort of way (though probably not intended), it's just one of those quirks with me as a viewer.
I can only subscribe to so much before I run into trouble watching all of the subscribed content in an afternoon, makes it more of a chore than entertainment (RUclips being exactly that), if my time is used for someone else's profit (views = money) I want that time to be good (for me), and in this case: Unattainable Evo's/Scoobies and FWD's just isn't my thing at all, and with so many good channels that I'm already subscribed to already feature FWD's and other unattainable vehicles in one way or another I have simply been forced to mentally filter them out, even if the content is good.
I personally want to watch videos featuring content I can relate to.
So don't get me wrong, good content, I just can't follow, subscribe, like, bell and have my FB wall further plastered and so forth for absolutely every single channel when they're the ones with the profit to show for it (evident with the cars and money spent on that already) and I'm the one who has to spend the time sifting through it.
And before anyone/body (can't be too safe these days) else feels the need to complain: Read: Context of the situation = Dillon was the one wondering, I gave my honest .5's to him (not anybody else) hoping he can make sense of it. In so many words: Denied. Edit: And don't even think about going political. (that should about triple vault secure my *ss here I think).
it's cause these niggas gay as hell
@@ConTheDon187 what the frog dude? 🤔🤔
So everyone has to have a million subs 300k isn't enough! Haha
I’ve been following this channel since about the first escort build, and no matter what happens you guys never ever cease to amaze me with your cinematography, audio, and just your video production. I know countless hours are spent on just one of these videos, yet no matter how tiring, how exhausting, or how frustrating it is you do an absolutely phenomenal job. Studying in the video field i know there have to be hundreds of shots that aren’t used, thousands of pictures that never make it to instagram. That non-stop attitude is why i will always commend your work. You guys do one hell of a job with the cards you have been given. Thank you for the inspiration and the countless nights of helping me not give up on cars.
Amazing looking svt focus being used for parts.....
Man the the production quality is more Netflix than RUclips!
It might be an obvious question but why not another SVX engine instead of the all the custom work? I mean...ok the 1st one turned out to be bad; wouldn't it it have been better off looking for yet another SVX engine? Heck even a whole another SVX to part out perhaps.
Not sure if am missing anything; and hope it runs soon!
SVX? Do you mean ZX2? The SVT engine is the same engine family as the ZX2, both are Zetec.
Yeah, that was messing me up. At one time I had an SVX and a SVT. :D
Whispers: This where you plug Liberty University's film school
SVX? We aren't talking Subarus here.

They are gods own chariot
First time watching this build and i must say you are truly a gear head.
The time, effort and dedication you put in with your friend says alot.
I love this guys willingness to learn and actually do some real work. Some RUclipsrs just throw money at cars and don't know anything. This guy is a real enthusiast. Subed
Thanks for staying honest and making awesome videos. Cannot wait to see the build finished properly!
Glad to see ppl like you give realistic advice and views of what it is to carry out a build such as this.
Probably not first but this is one of the best channels on RUclips, so well produced and not only super exotic cars like some others!
You are way overhyped for no reason
Good to see you keeping it real! I can totally 'amen' to the fact that things like this take so much more time than people think and expect! Most important thing is you never quit. And Jeff, you're a legend!✊
I absolutely loved this video.
The bond between the guys working in the garage on a common challenging goal and doing what we all love was perfect.
I love the fact that the simple truth is: good work and custom stuff takes time. As much as I would have loved to see the rebuild to be in done in time like every other show the simple truth is sometimes it just doesn't work out the way you wanted it to.
But when it's done you will be overwhelmed with accomplishment.
I love how you guys show how it’s REALLY done. No lies no sugar coating, you guys show how love to card can accomplish anything 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Love the last line “when you gonna come back” lol, good luck with finishing up with the swap! Been following the channel for a while now and enjoyed every single video that you and Ben created, especially the Alaska road trip series, keep up the awesome work pal!👊
This pair of guys seems like one of the most genuine and nicest group on RUclips, awesome video you too keep it up!
Great build and team work, gentlemen. Thanks for posting this. I just subscribed to your channel and it's great! Best to you both!
By far one of the best channels that I've recently found. The production quality is killer!
I feel like this is going to be one of the biggest car youtube channels kind of soon. I just found this channel by the trip Florida > Alaska(loved it). Keep up the great work.
E: spelling
One of the best channels on youtube wanna see you guys hit 1 million subscribers. Great stuff guys.
great vid. best part is discussing actual time and learning, and parts waiting while going through.
Best feeling is getting your ride back in the road 🙏
Refreshing to see truth, honesty and transparency - thank you
Good point at the end about taking your time on swaps. I have R&R' d several engines in my time, and can make pretty good time on them. That's service work though. When you have to modify every little thing to make something that was never designed quite that way work, time goes out the window. Good work on the escort, can't wait to see it in action!
Love the quality you guys put out for us. I read people say your content is unrelatable, how much more relatable do you want with an Evo, subi swap, and an escort?! Love what your doing. REALLY would love to meet up with you guys soon, maybe at a track here in Cali, my treat!
Thanks for making this. I need to get on my engine swap for my S60R, but it's been sitting for a month. Having friends to wrench with is priceless.
The MK1 Focus ST170 / SVT looks way better. The escort thing looks like my Nana's car.
Yeah I'm glad we never got that model escort in Europe, it's hideously ugly and what is the point of an escort if it can't rally?
you did a great job and your vids are very well put together , thanks for sharing...good luck and I hope you get all the subscribers you want!
The production quality and cinematography is just beyond words. I don't understand why this channel is so underrated. Can't wait to see this channel grow and prosper. 💜
Great attitude guys, excited to see the finished product!
My buddy had one of these zx2's in high school, it was a fun little car. Love watching this build!
Keep it up guys. awesome channel. cant wait to see this on the track!
Awesome work guys. :-) Super excited on your build. As a Subaru guy I know complications happen every single day.
I've been in your shoes a few times, I know this feeling very well. You have handle the situation very well given you tried your best and still didnt complete the task at hand. Im going to subscribe and support your guys 👍
Great video guys, I duno how you wound up in my YT feed but definitely can dig ur channel
I was just telling my buddy about this car the other day. Crazy that I came across this just now. Awesome build brother. Love to see this car get some love, and SO happy to see that you're still wrenching on it. I really wish that I would've filmed more of me building my 500 wheel horsepower Civic. That would've been a good video series.
I went with all ARP hardware on my LSVTEC turbo in my EK Civic coupe as well. I have probably $500 in bolts and nuts in my engine just to make sure that nothing can come apart or loose.
Very nice production quality, looks more like a TV show than RUclips! Our builds typically take months to even drive around the block, much less call it "finished" (they're never "finished" lol)! So in my opinion, you guys did a phenomenal job for only working on it a week! Rock on!
What a great video guys!! Production and content are first class!! Sub'd.
This car is why I subscribed to you guys! Been here since 30k
Im a zx2/escort guy myself so seeing someone actually take care of one makes me happy lol
Saaame.
2g Escort guy myself, but yeah, I LOVE these videos.
I just found this channel a few minutes ago, and WOW. I strive to have this level of production quality.
Sorry you guys didn't get to finish in time for the race. But like you said nothing beats working in the garage. Geoff seems a very knowledgeable guy and good friend. Respect to you chaps for your determination and progress. I am gonna subscribe.
one of the best videos ive watched you can tell that the G&G guys really care about there video quality!!!!
I watched the whole video, and NOW i give it a like!
Oh the fun of "Yep it's a good engine" been down THAT path a time or two! Rule number 1, don't trust the story! Tear it apart and verify! Absolutely outstanding to see you guys showing how these processes TRULY go. Keep up the good work!
Good job guys, love your channel.
So I did the svt swap on my 02 focus back in 06 . For me it was easy as I had a complete donor car. I had a 02 zx3 auto . The bad thing about the st170 engine for boost is the 10.5 :1 compression. The stock engine comes with forged con rods, the other parts are cast. It shares the same core head as the zx2 but has been " cossie-a-fied" the block is a focus/contour unit. I ran mine n/a and was my daily for better part of 8 years. I had it dynoed at around 168 hp and 152 ftlbs at the wheels , mated to the six speed and my car was significantly lighter than even the zx3 as I stripped sound deadener and had non of the air bag seats( they weigh about 60lbs each) or the abs/rear disks....most fun I had with my clothes on, I miss that car. It's final form it had a tailgate shave, hand made one of one carbon/kevlar hood, uprated suspension , wheels , tires, control arms front and rear , it was capable of 150 mph and 0-60 was around 6.2 seconds😏, I miss that car.
This is such a real car channel and I love it
That man has a wealth of knowledge. Kudos!
I like your honesty in this video. Too often movies like this go flawlessly and everything work and it only took them a day. But in those builds they are as you said "hacked" and bodged together and i know i would not be happy if my work didnt look perfect espcially since given the size of the job its only a little extra work.
Apollogies for my punctustion the grammar police will be all over me!
Great video. I really enjoyed it.
Every video is a classic, loved this one!
Good to see more enthusiasts that deal with the zetec engines . That SVT looked clean . Hopefully the shell went to a good home .
That Focus shell looks mint. Very nice video, subscribed :D
It’s awesome to see so much dedication towards an uncommon vehicle.
I love watching these videos every Saturday
Hey man ,,, your videos are really good and I’ve been watching them for quite some time … I’m seriously considering a build in the near future… thanks for helping me refuel my passion of working on cars ….
awsome episode!! keep up the excellent work!!
Good content. First time viewer and subscribed!
Great video, especially explaining real life builds at the end, it’s so true, it took me 9 days to STI swap my 1999 forester sf5 turbo s, that was by myself, on my driveway with standard tools 🤦♂️🤣
one of my favourite channels :) keep it up guys u rock :)
This makes me miss my ZX2 "Buny" and my tzx2 guys 😭 Glad to see there is at least one out there for the masses to appreciate 💖
Great to see progress guys 💪🏻
That was impressive progress! It would've taken me 3 months or more to get all of that done. Well done guys!
I have a mark 1 Escort that I am in the process of rebuilding but it may take a couple of years due to the work and budget but some cars they captivate you in such a way that it is hard to let go. For me the mk1 was the car I learnt to drive in and work on.
very well presented and shot. wish the ending was a bit happier ;) best of luck from Iceland!
Pretty cool video.
I had never tracked or even modded my focus (my first car) till it died on me.
I just couldn't get rid of it it was such a fun little thing, everyone was like... nah just get rid of it but I couldn't
So I'm starting to build it up (as a street car) and seeing people still working on regular cars of the same era is hugely motivating for me :)
The great cinematography helps too of course!
For a second I thought it was CVT on the title LOL
Yeah bro me too
I was about halfway when I realized, "Oh right, CVT is transmission and not engine".
That final note is so crucial. Engine swaps are so much more complex than a lot of channels lead you to believe.
Amazing effort guys!
Subarus Launch Control has a full media production team behind it. Somehow your two man channel competes with them for best automotive content on RUclips. Absolutely incredible
Great work, and it doesn’t matter how fast you fix something, if you do it right once you don’t have to do it again, I’ve seen videos were it says they take 3 days to swap but the next video will be about it broke down because it was done quick. You’re trying to do it right and that’s how it supposed to be done. Thumbs up! I like the video! Shot out to your friend he is a car guru lol
I love this video. Wholesome as ever. I would much rather watch this type of content than "Twin Turbo Lambo build!" or "Cletus Corvette go kart thing!" Jeff is a good dude as well
I just had your channel suggested to me by YT, and I gotta say - loving the production value. Hopefully I'll see you out at some NASA events at VIR in the future. On the flip side, Hyperfest was mega-crowded this year. I'm not sure you missed much but a lot of mud and drunks.
Great motor choice. Very excited to see how the car does with it
Great video, I like that you genuine!
You should do much more garage stuff, it is a real pleasure to watch.
Can't wait to see what that SVT engine does for your times!!!
I currently have a 2003 zx2 that I've started working on. Got the ignition system changed. It now has all NGK ignition w/ Irridium plugs.
This spring summer doing suspension and megasquirt ecu hopefully.... down the line, I think I'm going supercharged with this engine... i just found out not too long ago that there is an oem kit for supercharging the ztech engine!!
Best of luck to you, and hapy holidays
Good luck guys!!! Might see you on a track soon
I love this build. Can't wait for more
Great video G&G!
Awesome video! Keep up the great work!,
So much time into such a quality video!
Well done. I'm impressed!
i actually love these episode of being in the garage and working on something :D
Great progress! 💙💙
Chills* wicked video!
This was truly amazing to watch as I am intrigued by SVT and the Cosworth designed motor. Ford racing makes a Supercharger but you can probably tune the turbo more. Word of caution from experience , keep the MAF sensor clean as it will mess with the intake runners.
All that custom work im shocked you guys got as far as you did. Wish there eere more car ppl like this. I love built cars like wrxs bmws etc but its stuff like this that blows my mind
i love the quality of the vids on this channel
He's a really good friend.
This was a quality episode.
This is a really good video, I'm not sure how I've never found your channel before.
Another Escourt video, WHOOP WHOOP!
Love you for your honesty
The emotion when Ben said "so when are you coming back?". Someone else said we need more Jeff's and I agree. Such a nice feeling to work on a project with your friend(s) in the garage. I like cars, but it's not about the car. It's about doing it with cool people. And meeting cool people on the way.
SoBe from teamzx2 here if thats still around. Nice to see some escort love. My z is built, been ripping around in it for about 5 years or so 20+ psi on a gt35
Very nice looking Escort. Makes me want one to take place of my '97 Klze probe gt
Jeff is a good friend and a cool dude.
Can’t wait to see more... first car 98 zx2 I’ve owned 4 of them... keep it up!!!!!
Awesome video, I wanted to build my mk1 zx3 that I have, everyone told me it wouldn’t be worth it and to get a different car, when I got my mr2 I kinda gave up on my focus and she’s just been sitting in my driveway getting pelted by the sun, this makes me want to work on it again
Its better to take your time with stuff like this, hope to see it running soon!!!
Being a 90s kid and having had parents who both drive Fords in the 90s, I always thought that zx2 escort was a pretty neat car.
Cool to see you track/mod it, also always wanted an SVT focus
