I love the gearbox shifter best, it works the same way as the 3 speed in my homemade dragbike except I only have 3 speeds and mine is air pressure not co2 (I was toying with using nitrous to save a cylinder though) and I pull rods through the centre of the cluster which the gears connect to internally rather than using forks, but ramps on the gear throws out the previous gear against air pressure, which means you can shift without letting off the throttle, and it also means if you back out of the throttle to save a run, the gearbox doesnt take a shit as the ramps override the shift pressure and save it from locking up when you back out. How do the keep fuel/oil from not getting pushed to the back. What does the steering system look like. I need more info!!!! Such an awesome video, dan always seems to ask all the right questions, he killed it!
I'm pretty sure most salt flat guys use air plane tires that you'd see like on a commercial jet...where as the speed increases, they get skinnier and stiffer and don't have a "balloon-like" sidewall. don't quote me on that though...
In the old days they would run solid wheels, then they switched to aircraft tires and like this team runs the LSR tires. Technology has caught up to be able to make a tire that can handle those speeds. You also have to realize that salt is not like asphalt so the durability isn’t as intense on the tread. It is all more in the construction and sidewall strength. With regards to the fluids, they are using massive pumps to push forward and keeping the fluid flowing helps mitigate the g loads pushing it back. It also helps that they aren’t accelerating like a top fuel car.

TheHoonigans two sided coin. no i wouldnt but odds are the few who buy a machine like that would probably never break 300mph..!!. on the other hand the ability to do such speed and then goto the grocery store to pick up diapers. would be insanity to own.
Short answer, no. Production cars end up having a much larger frontal surface area so they have to overcome a lot more drag. As far as I am aware the current limiting factor on the production car speed record is tires.
It's impossible to get even close to a land speed car in a street legal DOT compliant vehicle. The main limiting factor is the limited aerodynamics of a street legal car. Notice how long and narrow the land speed car is.

The most gorgeous, intimidating moving vehicle I've ever seen...and that's only via this camera work. Up close I think I'd have to stand back.
I love how simple they can verbalize the workarounds they use for their problems. That’s awesome. “We had a pressure problem last year so we just put a breather that’s set at 35psi” wow
the amount of knowledge these guys know is actually insane.
No burnout from the V8 airplane?? Disappointed
Well theyd need to fit a ehole different gear set
Lmaooo
GrexTheCrabasitor Nah just give it a line lock and let it rip
Lmao I’m not sure they make brake calibers strong enough to stop this bad boy from luanching off as soon as u push the throttle
Seriously guys no manline ? Not even a jump, double stack the ramps an jump that thing straight into orbit 😂 that thing is a work of art
Lmao that thing would nose dive into the land because the downforce there is real
Samuel just use your imagination, dreams will become reality
Anyways i have a 278hp lawnmower that uses the fan to generate downforce
Samuel so basically the Chaparral 2J, right ?
I actually got the opportunity to talk with George Poteet and have him sign my Hot Rod issue that had his car on the cover after he took the record. He's genuine Bonneville royalty with a collosal hot rod collection, but you'd never know it by talking to him. Real nice, humble dude. Still just a car guy through and through.
You just spent 22 minutes in the minds of geniuses... absolutely beautiful machine... thank you
Might be the coolest episode you've done
Most boring *
I need that engine in my work truck. It would have to have a conservative street tune. Bump it down to about 2000-2100, that should do it.
This was unexpected
Expect the unexpected.
There’s things like this out there and yet there’s people that still aren’t into cars. Blows my mind
I honestly expected this to be kind of a boring video, not normal hoonigan burnout stuff, but the educational side it it was so cool! Keep these coming!
Yet more proof that the LS is the greatest engine ever designed, whether it's a bone stock low output truck motor or a 100% custom built version.
Fan boy mentality instead of appreciating everything for what it is ...
@@brucedressel8873 it isn't fanboy mentality. The LS engine is the cheapest source of *reliable* horsepower, if you can't handle that reality, you can cry yourself a puddle. It is what it is, and it's a beast.
Need to do a build biology on a f1 car
Does Ken still has the hook up on Monster? I kinda want to see the dominant V6 Mercs on the yard lol.
@@_Erogaki Monster doesn't have that kinda power
The would never do it though. Too much secret sauce in F1
@@fulcrum2168 monster has Hamilton. Soooo I think I got a point for me lmao
So I wanted to do an engine swap...
Put in an LS
Yeah but I wanna be able to go...
Put in an LS
Yeah but I wanna beat the L....
Put in an LS
Ok, but I want to go 460 miles per ho...
Put in an LS
FINE! #($)&)!@# you, I wanna do a diesel swap!
Put in an...wait what?
PUT AN LS WITH DIESEL OIL.
Supprised no Cummins fanboys chiming in with a 6 in a row ready to tow or whatever the fuck they say
This has got to be the cleanest, most organized build ever!
One of the most impressive land vehicles on the planet. And the fastest piston-engined car ever, AFAIK. Truly impressive machine and glad to see they're still pushing the envelope on the Speed Demon!
Hoonigan never disappoints with their choice of music
whoever does the music over at hoonigan always finds bangers
That things crazy! 🚀
Wow. Breathtaking. It was really awesome getting to see it run. Everything you guys said was absolutely proven with video evidence. Truly amazing engineering.
Thank you for putting this together. So amazing!!!!
"Will it fit in my honda."
Dance Around The World will it fit in my P50
@@posilly8564 lengthen the peel a bit
Dance Around The World technically yes
Will it fit on mountain bike?
Dan the "ROCKET MAN"
What no 2600HP burnouts? Lame...
Serious tho, that thing is nuckin' futs.
Nuckin' futs. Lol
This is the most technical build ever on the show❤👍
Only add on to this shoot is actually firing up that complete beast and hearing the melody!
he said 460mph .... sounds me like that a call out to the hyper car manufactures can they build a production car to set a new land speed record ? and do it at Bonneville?
TheHoonigans two sided coin. no i wouldnt but odds are the few who buy a machine like that would probably never break 300mph..!!. on the other hand the ability to do such speed and then goto the grocery store to pick up diapers. would be insanity to own.
Short answer, no. Production cars end up having a much larger frontal surface area so they have to overcome a lot more drag. As far as I am aware the current limiting factor on the production car speed record is tires.
That's like asking Porsche to make a production car faster around a track than their actual race cars 😕
It's impossible to get even close to a land speed car in a street legal DOT compliant vehicle. The main limiting factor is the limited aerodynamics of a street legal car. Notice how long and narrow the land speed car is.
My girl: "Just got out of shower, hurry over"
Me: *Jumps in the streamliner*
Duttweiler was the Buick grand national god back in the day
One statement from these guys has dropped more knowledge in regards to car building and what it really takes to make something function at a high level than any other video Hoonigan has ever posted. Dan did a great job of just listening and coaching more out of these guys.
I absolutely LOVE the "no logo" chassis.... What a super classy / sweet / sexy looking car!!! Almost as beautiful as the 1935 Campbell-Railton Blue Bird...(my all time fav)
Do... do man line in it
Unless they wanna pull the car apart or rebuild the hoonigan warehouse and do the demo in a fast manner I don't see them doing man line any time in the near future
That’s a NASA quality build 💖🇺🇸
Who's ready to launch in to space?!

I love how they smile whilst talking about the car...
You can see the pride
They should put this car in Forza
Conner Quintero ehh..... it would be too OP. If it was to be used strictly in a business/storyline it might work.
More like Gran Turismo
@@gamingden444 imagine taking this onto route x
I don't know that you could do anything with it. It is designed to go straight for about 8 miles. It can't turn, it is designed to go fast in a straight line, and that is it.
v12tommy but it would be an amazing drag car with some drag grip tires and a bit of tuning
Somebody show Cleetus
oh yeah..mr texas know nothing...
Too many bald eagles
This is a little out of Cleetus' area, but I've often thought I'd like to see Ruby do a land speed run just to see what she could do.
All hail the mighty GM LS engines!!
The attention to detail and engineering that has gone into this is NEXT LEVEL !
Excellent video. You weren't afraid to ask questions. Good man. Keep em coming and I'll keep watchin.
