Great guide. I watched several others and none of them came close to how detailed Pence PC was. Shout out to the file packet as well. I've soft modded before but this one was a bit more technical and I was having trouble on where to put the files on the SD card. Thanks again.
This was very helpful and I appreciate how meticulous your videos are overall. Today your file package got me sorted out. Earlier I tried to update my Tiramisu and Aroma just by downloading and dumping the files onto the SD, only to find that I couldn't open games that had been downloaded from NUSspli, or NUSspli itself. So I downloaded your file set, copied to the SD, and restarted- all good! I noticed that your two links don't download quite the same file set. I ended up using the one from Mega, and as mentioned, merely copying it to my SD got my homebrewed Wii U back on track. Thanks!

I've watched your hacking videos for all my other consoles anyways, so no idea why I didn't check first 😅 I tend to need guides like this idiot-proofed, and you've never steered me wrong
If you already have Tiramisu and want to add Aroma. Simply download this github.com/wiiu-env/Aroma/releases/download/beta-14/aroma-beta-14.zip Unzip and add the Wii U folder to the root of your SD card. It should add Aroma to the correct folders (at least on Win 11). Hold the X button on your gamepad while your Wii u boots to choose if you want to load Aroma or Tiramisu. For anyone having sigpatch issues or games not launching. Make sure you have the file 01_sigpatches.rpx in the following directory on your SD card wiiu>environments>aroma>modules>setup. If it is not there, copy the file from the same Tiramisu directory and paste in the Aroma directory in the setup folder. 5.5.6 firmware is for USA consoles, 5.5.5 is for all other regions. You can follow this guide as long as you are updated to the latest firmware for your region. pencepc.com/guides is still a work in progress. Hey! So I used the now outdated guide and it worked great! I haven't used it in over a year and it's now prompting me to update the system. Should I do that or how I bypass that ? Also, other than backing up the NAND which I don't think was covered in the last video, is it advisable to upgrade to the latest version ?
Great Video, and advices again! Little bit talking to the chest instead of "eye contact". Can you put the paper at a higher point, closer to the camera? Feels so weird talking to the chest. lol Keep on doing quality content!
Hi Pence! just a quick question I followed your old guide a few days back before this one was posted, in that one, the step to backup the NAND wasn't covered (or maybe I missed it, I don't recall and I'm also new to homebrewing consoles) therefore I don't have one (just found out thanks to this video and WiiUIdent mine has one of the faulty HYNIX) and was wondering if a make backup of the NAND as it is (modded with tiramisu and aroma) would work in case something happens?
Yes, it would be a great idea to backup your NAND right now in case your NAND goes bad and a product like NAND-AID could bring it back from the death. Good thinking. You should be able to hold B on your gamepad while booting your Wii U which will bring up the option to select NANDdumper. Run it and backup your NAND like shown in the video. Place it on your PC somewhere to keep around in case you need it.
@@PenceFamilyGaming if the physical chip is degrading why would backing up the nand data be a fix should that guy's Wii U break down? honest question, I'm truly curious and am definitely not trying to needle you or anything like that.
Great stuff! thank you. Do you know if the Voultar Nand-AID will be able to replace a NAND with any firmware you want (eg., i could install a US firmware on a Japan Wii u?
I was trying to make Tiramisu launch directly when turning on the Wii U, and looking for help people directed me to some weird stuff. It was as simple as going to the payload installer and selecting tiramisu as default (I had it selected before, but maybe I skipped a step before).
One more question if you know the answer, because I'm seeing a lot of conflicting answers on how the hard drive setup needs to be. Is it true that the Wii U drive has to be separate from the Wii/GC etc drive, and that only one drive can be connected at any given time? I'm at the point of purchasing a HDD and I can get either a 2TB drive and throw all my stuff on it. Or get say a 1TB and a 500GB drive, put Wii U on one then the rest on the other. Basically, I just want the least intrusive setup where once I'm all done, I can connect my Wii U to the TV, play any games, and not have to fiddle around in the back swapping out drives. Is this possible? Thanks!
With the original Wii mod, you had to separate the GC games from the Wii games. Basically, you had to connect your hard drive to a PC and create 2 different partitions on the drive. I believe the one with GC games has to be formatted NTFS. I'm not certain about how it works on the Wii U, though.
The highest you can go with Wii U drive is 2TB. You can use higher than 2TB but the Wii U will format the drive and only use 2TB. It is a proprietary format and the rest of the space is un-usable. You can install Wii U, Wii U Virtual console, and Wii/GC games converted using Teconmoon's WiiVC injector. Not every game works using the injector though and I will explore this more with a video soon. For the vWii side of the Wii U, I will show how to use USB Loader GX to play/store all Wii, Gamecube, and WiiVC games. These games are accessed with boxart in a nice Wii-like menu. Yes, this has to be a separate storage device. The reason is once again, the Wii U formats the drive to take all the space, leaving no room for vWii side storage. The vWii USB Loader storage can theoretically go up to 16TB. You have to use a method I discuss here in this video. ruclips.net/video/-mYxiBg39zo/видео.html Western Digital has started sending out drives that make it not possible to format above 2TB though as shown in my video since they have updated the firmware. This vWii drive needs to be formatted to FAT32 if you wanted BOTH Wii and Gamecube games on it since the Gamecube games require FAT32. Yes, after many years of testing I have finally figured out how to keep both drives connected using a large USB hub. I showed in my community post a few days ago HERE> ruclips.net/channel/UC72Z7iIXsG8csqlXWEODrtQcommunity?lb=UgkxxINmZaz64Fymt8LN9_v7kOKBnINKSoYT

Hey! Thanks for the amazing tutorial! I followed your last one back in October and I've been living the dream ever since. I do wonder something about the d2x_cIOS_installer. In the now outdated video the instruction was to install "d2x-v10-beta52-vWii" while this new video instructions are to install "d2x-v11-beta1-vWii". Should I update that? And if so, how? Thanks for the good work!
It is most likely just better compatibility with games. You should only have to add the new d2xcios installer app to your SD card. Download this here wiiu.hacks.guide/docs/files/d2x_cIOS_Installer.zip Unzip and add the d2x folder to your apps folder. Replace existing files when it asks, then go through the d2x cios part in the guide.

Hello! This seems like an amazing tutorial but well I was following I encountered a problem. Well following the 2 step (downloading the data for the sd card) when I downloaded the files they installed as some sort of document. I have posted a short named “Download Problem” to father discribe my problem to hear your thoughts on it.
I am trying to update wiiU prior to doing this. Just safely u installed the cbhc. But can't get it to update. Throws an error code 105-3015 , previously it was giving another error code, noticed firmware was showing 99.99 so after uninstall ing cbhc safely from cbhc , I removed the donot remove this from data manager and now it shows my real firmware. But this new code I can't get thru. Also now homebrew gives error code also. 😅
I followed the guide and it worked perfectly thank you, i installed the hardware info thing to check about my NAND situation and unfortunately i have a hynix one, I bought this wii u on launch and it has been sitting in my wardrobe for 6 consecutive years without ever turning it on, and it works just fine now that i hacked it. Is there something i need to do to prevent it from failing on me in the future ?
My Japanese Wii U it's at 5.5.5 and will not let me update to 5.5.6. It says it is at it's latest version. However, when I install Tiramisu the Launcher does not open. The screen stays at the loading face; Blue background with bubbles with no menu. Can you help me?
Working on USB Loader GX for vWii first, then will work on Wii U side. I had to upload/work on one at a time or else it would have taken me forever to release anything.
Pence I have 2 wiiUs from you. I hope you will help me make smooth transition, to remove the cbhc of they have it and update wiiU and then mod the latest pretendo on it, before time runs out.
So attempting to do this guide, started and followed to the letter. Get to the NANDdumper, but it doesn't dump, instead it pops up the Error Code 160-0103. I do a hard reset, the system boots back into the Wii U Menu like normal. I've attempted doing this a couple times, but it will not backup the NAND. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
i'm not positive but it could be you have a bad NAND if you keep getting an error or your SD card is possibly bad. Try switching to a different SD if you have one around.
@@PenceFamilyGaming Tried 2 other SD cards, and same results on both of them. But again, the console functions normally and works as stock, playing digital and disc games just fine.
@@cvfd526 I had the exact same problem. Wii U working otherwise perfectly, but 160-0103 when trying to dump the NAND. In my case, the NAND was bad (Hynix branded nand), and I had to use a NAND-Aid to resolve the problem. There's threads about it on GBAtemp

Thank you for your great tutorial, I discovered and followed your tutorial in 2022 to hack it with Tiramisu. What are the benefit for me with Aroma ?
Pence what do I do if my Wii U does a weird screech when I’m running the browser exploit the second time
Excellent guide. Top notch. If you have a donation link, I will use it. Others who benefited from your work might consider following my lead!
Thanks for the comment. I may enable donations soon.
I love your channel thank pro
Do you still work with the Dreamcast? I bought a Wii mod from you a couple years ago and I still jam on it
I was wondering what happenes if you press on aroma rather then tiramisu during the home brew process, is the process the same or what?
Great guide
Thanks!
i have a question pence what if i did ur guide from last year i think that is outdated and i wanna do this one now do i have to reset my whole wii u?
YOU ARE THE BEST!!
Do you know how to resin-stall Tiramisu, I'm assuming I have to disable the environment loader some how first.
Hi just going through your tutorial and got to booting the Wii Munu and when launching the homebrew app there is nothing in there?
Question! Does it have to be a sd card to upload the data? Or could it also be a usb stick?
Has to be SD card
@@PenceFamilyGaming I added the new files and replaced the existing ones, and when I try to open the homebrew channel on the wii menu, it does not open, do you know how to fix this? thanks for the video btw
Thanks to FunkyScott47.
Got a question, in the backing up the nand process mine got an error and re booted. I check if the files were ther in my computer bit it wasn't. Once I tried to re do the process it takes me tp the part of installing the aurora amd tiramisu
How can I back up my nand if this happens?
Ok I just re did it again and it worked 😂
@@socomboy1456 Good to hear.
Thanks for this
hi great stuff but i keep getting cannot run enviroment loader twice so can i just erase this card and do the tiramisu install again since it keeps going in a loop - thanks
hiya
i followed yuor guide last year and am on the older version of tiramisu--can i use the new sd files?
What do I do uf one of the NAND options wasnt selected and I accidentally pressed a?
i dont have the wii u remote, there is another way to replace it? is it possible just to use controller?
Hi family, please I injected some Wii games (USA region) onto the WiiU with the teconmoon injector, the problem is I can't launch these games, please are there any plug-ins or patches
To bypass my European console region??🙏🙏
Hi on vwii step I can't scroll to dsx v11 bata1 vwii ,what should I do?😢 I only see d2xv6
idk whats up but i have no homebrew channel in the vWII any help? ive done everything the same as this video to a tea
Followed this to the letter and has so far appeared to work except for one issue. The WUP Installer GX2 does not seem to appear on my homebrew launcher. Any idea as to what is causing this? Pretty frustrating as it is basically the thing I need to get NUSspli etc to get working.
It was an oversight when I made the package. It is in there now. You can manually add WUP installer by downloading here and placing the files on the root of your SD card. Overwrite any files if it asks. www.wiiubru.com/appstore/zips/wup_installer_gx2.zip
Does this also work with 5.5.5e? (I'm in Europe and it can't update to 5.5.6)
5.5.6 released only to North America
I have the same problem can't update to 5.5.6 only 5.5.5e
Throws an error code 105-3015
, previously it was giving another error code, noticed firmware was showing 99.99 so after uninstall ing cbhc safely from cbhc , I removed the donot remove this from data manager and now it shows my real firmware. But this new code I can't get thru. Also now homebrew gives error code also. 😅
Hi! I m a new owner of a wii u console and i have a question. This is how to mod your console or how to install games on wii u?
This is how to mod your system which will allow you to install games. I am working on that guide right now for USB Loader GX
@@PenceFamilyGaming Thanks man! you are the best!
I will be following. Where is the most expansive zip drive of wii u and wii games?
I need instructions on how and when to put the aroma file in the environment folder
Hi, how can I unmod my Wii u and remove tiramisu from it? Also how do I unmod the vwii side? Thank you
I dont have a wii controler, sulfated problem, how can i solve it with the joycons? pls someone tell me if is posible, im losing the wii menu
When i use Nand backup it just stays on a white screen
My Nintendo id is linked to my Wii U 3ds and switch. Is it safe to mod my Wii U on my Nintendo id?
I followed the guide and it worked perfectly thank you, i installed the hardware info thing to check about my NAND situation and unfortunately i have a hynix one, I bought this wii u on launch and it has been sitting in my wardrobe for 6 consecutive years without ever turning it on, and it works just fine now that i hacked it.
Is there something i need to do to prevent it from failing on me in the future ?
There is nothing you can do at the moment. I will explore NAND-aid in the future.
My sd card broke on cold boot when I homebrewed my wiiu what do I do
Thanks nice tutorial...
My Japanese Wii U it's at 5.5.5 and will not let me update to 5.5.6. It says it is at it's latest version. However, when I install Tiramisu the Launcher does not open. The screen stays at the loading face; Blue background with bubbles with no menu. Can you help me?
Same do u have found an solution?
@@keanofricke1836 I added apps to the folder for the Tiramisu to run. It seems it does not come when any app installed
HI man! I want to know when will appear the video for installing games on wiiu using this mod?
Working on USB Loader GX for vWii first, then will work on Wii U side. I had to upload/work on one at a time or else it would have taken me forever to release anything.
🎉
I keep getting an OTP error the first time running wii u exploit and it doesn't back up my nand
Edit: Nvm got it fixed, my sd card wasn't formatted correctly
Can you do this process without the handheld ….just hooked to the tv?
@PENCE PC can I go back to a normal wii u after this?
nope
What’s the difference of the other video that says (outdated)
Hey Pence! Ive already hacked my wii U and wanted to start from scratch with this up-to-date guide. So I factory rested my wii U and formated my Micro SD card and storage device. But now whenever I turn on the wii U it still says "Payload failed" or something like that. Will that mess up the guide? And if so how do I get rid of it?
Follow this part here, then follow my guide. wiiu.hacks.guide/#/uninstall-payloadloader
Make sure you have my file package from this video on your SD card, then follow that. It may say the payloader isn't on there when you go to install. If so, you can follow my guide.
Hey Pence PC I am having issues with digital games and apps on the Wii U when I switch between Tiramisu and Aroma is there anything I can do to stop it from happening?
UPDATE: I have found the problem. I did not have a sigpatches file in my Aroma folder👍
If we do this, can we still move data from Wii to Wii U
can I not use the same external HDD for Wii u, WIi games?
Not unless you want to inject the games using teconmoon's WiiVC injector.
Hey Pence PC, is there anything I need to do before doing a factory rest to a hacked console?
If you have CBHC (cold boot Haxchi), you need to remove it. Tiramisu/Aroma - No.
d2x-v11-beta1-vwii does not show up as an option for me. there is no select cIOS option past d2x v6 for me. do you know how to fix that? I've followed everything to a t so far.
Same issues 😢
Hi, clicking on your Proton Drive link and downloading the software needed doesnt lead you to anywhere. The software says it's downloaded but it isn't in my downloads folder....where does the software go when it claims it's downloaded?
Right to my downloads folder. I did it on multiple PCs. When you hit download, you sometimes have to wait a minute for it to fully download.
Use a different browser. I had same issue while using chrome on mac, failed 3 times. I used saffari and worked fine.
I really don't understand? What's the benefits of having both?? I already have Tarimisu, everything works fine. Other than my retroarch not booting on the 1st attempt ( I have the arcade Punks arcade retroarch package)
Aroma will be the firmware modders focus on going forward so there may only be apps specific to that one. Both can be on the system at the same time and you can boot into either with a simple system reboot.
@@PenceFamilyGaming thanks for the info.
My moded WiiU got automatically updated and now i can't play my games... anything i can do? Thanks for the help!
You on Tiramisu? If so, just follow this part and the games should work again wiiu.hacks.guide/#/tiramisu/autobooting
