  • In this video lead guitarist Jacob Binzer (D-A-D) shows us his live rig and demonstrates some of the settings he uses when playing live with D-A-D.
    - 00:00 - Intro riff
    - 00:16 - Basic dirty rhythm sound
    - 00:42 - Dirty rhythm sound with more gain / the Van Halen sound
    - 01:13 - Dirt sound with delay
    - 01:30 - Solo sound (gain & delay)
    - 02:01 - Amplifiers (Friedman BE-100 Deluxe & Marshall JCM 800)
    - 03:06 - G-Force delay, TC Electronic
    - 03:19 - Proctavia effect pedal
    - 03:31 - The riff from "Monster Philosophy"
    - 03:44 - Effect pedals explained
    - 04:17 - System Interface (for amps), custom made Skrydstrup
    - 04:39 - MR10 Loop System, Caveman Audio
    - 04:53 - I/P Selector, custom made Skrydstrup
    - 05:03 - Gibson Les Paul, Murphy Lab ’59
    - 05:27 - Gibson Les Paul, Classic (back up guitar)
    - 05:27 - Gibson Les Paul, Classic (back up guitar)
    - 05:47 - PRS Mira guitar (“the throwaway guitar”)
    - 06:58 - Fender Jazzmaster ’63
    - 07:21 - Playing the Jazzmaster
    - 08:38 - SC1 System Controller, Caveman Audio
    - 09:38 - Explaining how to make the “Spaghetti Western sound” used on “Sleeping My Day Away”
    - 12:02 - Mic’s used for guitar cab (Shure SM57 & Royer Labs R-121)
    - 12:56 - Dual Mic Preamp, Caveman Audio
    - 13:31 - Playing Chopin’s “Mazurka No. 41 in C-Sharp Minor”
Jacob is an avid Caveman Audio user and has multiple custom-made products from Steen Skrydstrup. The SC1 System Controller is used for switching between the different presets. All the pedals are connected to the MR10 Loop System to make sure there is impedance correction on every loop, as well as silent switching.

The latest edition to the amps is the Friedman BE-100 Deluxe. It is used for the “dirt rhythm” sounds, whereas the JCM 800 is used for the clean sound.
The amps are connected to the interface, custom-built by Steen Skrydstrup. From the interface there is a line signal to the TC Electronic G-Force, then from the TC Electronic G-Force to the power amp, and lastly to the delay cabinet. From the delay cabinet the sound plots into the clean and dirty cabinet.
The live sound is a mixture of the 3 cabinets. The first cabinet is the clean sound, the second is the delay/effects and the third is the dirt sound.
These are the effects that Jacob uses when playing live with D-A-D:
    Boss CS2 Compressor
    MXR Micro Amp
    Boss Metal Zone
    TC Electronic Spark Booster
    Tube Screamer TS-808
    Electro-Harmonix, Pitch Fork Pitch Shifter
    Voodoo Lab Proctavia
    Dunlop CryBaby
Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus (Power adapter)
    TC Electronic G-Force
The main mic used on the cabs is the Shure SM57. The addition to the SM57 is the Royer Labs-121. The combination of the two mics together works really well. The SM57 and the Royer go into the Dual Mic Preamp, custom-built by Steen Skrydstrup.
The main guitar that Jacob uses at the moment is the Gibson Les Paul, Murphy Lab ’59. His backup guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Classic from 2000.
Jacob’s PRS Mira guitar is only used for the last song in the set, because as a finishing act Jacob always throws his guitar up in the air, and usually it lands safely (in a softy net) behind his cabinets.
Whenever Jacob wants clean sounds on the stage he uses his Fender Jazzmaster (1963).

I met the brothers at their Perth gig late last year. The entire band were great blokes. I had the longest chat with the enigmatic bass player, Stig.

Love how he embraces the 80's-90's big rig amp setups which I miss. Most today are touring with Modeling for convenience. It takes dedication and hard work to tour with multiple amps and racks. Hats off to Jacob.

A metalzone for Reconstucdead! No way! Lemme tell ya: as a teenager just learning to play, this band was so important to me. Like many kids in the early 2000s who just didnt know any better, the MT-2 was my first distortion pedal. I pretty soon realized it sucked, but it did nail that buzzsaw sound from Reconstrucdead. Absolutely hilarious that Jacob actually uses one too! 😂

Take a listen to D.A.D's Rickin' it All album. It's a bit like ACDC meets Surf music. I love their tunes; they have a certain complexity in each song and yet the tunes are easy to sing along to.

Wow that was great. I expected to see a Gretsch responsible for his classic signature sound. Where can I find out more about the early history of the band from back in the "concept days" ?

      Good Eye Eduard.
As long as the guitar stays stable its fine.
However that is unlikely with a Touring instrument.
Such a shame, beautiful top/finish on that.

Yeah... nope... just nope, good yeah because they're pre-2012 when the quality started going to shit, but cheap -- nope.
