I really enjoy watching your videos Ryan. In my youth I made similar trips across the US while on leave from the Air Force. Now I’m an old man, with back and knee issues. Thankfully I can live vicariously through you and your adventures. Thank you 🫡
First of all, loved the Ninja facial expressions when forcing the bugs to give up their ghost 😂 Next time turn off interior lights and set up a light source away from the van to attract them to the new light source and see if that works. You can rub citronella wipes on the screens as well. Your shrimp boil looked awesome! Keep on keep'in on and Stay Safe out There!
Ive noticed when you closed the bug net, theres an opening you leave behind just on ur garage area. Maybe they went through there. Imagine how long you cooked while theyre already partying below your bed 😁
My wife, kids and I spent a month on that beach a few years ago in a camper. It was amazing. The bugs get really bad right before sunset and then are usually fine overnight. Sometimes early in the morning they will come out too. We just started coming inside right before the bugs, wait them out and go back out. We were there late February through March in 2018. We did learn shortly after that a thermacell works great to keep the bugs away. Start it up and about 15 minutes later no bugs.
Hey Ryan! I found your channel randomly on my feed at your 10th daily vid from the last trip and just wanted to let you know that your vids are amazing! I have binge watched them all about 2 times now and its honestly been a pleasure seeing your journey! I have so jealous of how free you are as person, I'm 25 and I feel pretty restricted in life from just overall school debt and other factors but I really admire your life and seeing this freedom through your videos really inspires me to one day do what you do! Thank you for all your videos and letting us see your journey it really means alot!
Loving the videos. When you shut your bug screen it wasn’t shut at the bottom. Imagine they got in then. Also you shut the doors and the bugs in with you. Might be worth turning all your lights off and having a light outside before you shut next time. They will be attracted to the light outside and leave the van.
Sorry your overnight at the beach was ruined by mosquitoes, but they are awful down south, especially near the water. I lived in North Palm Beach, Florida, for awhile, and I remember the large mosquito spraying trucks driving through our residential neighborhood streets and spraying our air with mosquito repellant. One night when I was visiting my grandmother in Mobile, Alabama, I was standing outside the house near some bushes in the front yard and talking with a relative for about 20 minutes. I later counted about 25 mosquito bites on my body. It's good you got out of there. But thanks for sharing that shrimp boil -- that looked amazing.
Cool idea, here me out. Since you are always cooking on the channel and trying new meals. May be a cool idea to have a board behind you where you sit on your sofa area when you eat and keep track of your top 5 meals. You can update the board as you go and new meals top another one. Could be a neat little Easter egg about your van / traveling life.
Big tip I got from my sister when buying seafood at the grocery store. That is to just buy frozen product. Usually the fish or shellfish was frozen on its way to the grocery store and so they will thaw it out and it just increases the risk of them getting weird. Just a tip i was happy to learn and made sense to me.
No lemons either.... Sigh.. Would still totally eat it tho. I actually think you might infuse a better garlic flavor to the shrimp cooking it that way.. But I'd still put em in the water ..Good job either way tho!
I am enjoying your content very much! Thanks for the time you take and the hard work in presentation of these interesting slices of your adventures on the road! You deserve an "oscar" 😊
You are really living the dream. cant wait to start my vanlife journey again. Probably will get a Honda Odyssey again to start.I want to pay cash for everything. so it will be used.
Hey Ryan, those mosquitoes were epic. Kinda typical for the Gulf coast. Hope you got a better rest the following night. I need to try that shrimp boil recipe. Safe travels.
Your shrimp boil looks very appetizing. How did it taste overall? Here in South Carolina, we have what is called a Low Country boil. It's very similar. When we make it, we sometimes add crab. Once all the ingredients have cooked (boiled) everything is laid out on tin foil or newspaper on a picnic table for every body to eat around the table. No dishes and normally no utensils. Sorry about the pesky skeeters. Hope you get rid of them. Nice video Ryan. Safe travels
I'd imagine that standing water had something to do with the skeeters. Never had that problem when I camped on those beaches. Usually don't have skeeters around salt water. Jambo looks amazing. Some rice to soak up them juices might have been good.
Amazing to follow you on your trips, really hope people can appreciate how much effort you're putting into making proper meals in the van too, love it ! Greetings from Norway, make your next trip over here 😁😁👏🤘
That's super cool you are in Louisiana, we usually go to holly beach of maze beach, but the sand is much softer; where you would probably want a 4X4. Hope you had fun!!
That boil looked absolutely delicious!! That is my favorite kind of food!! Can't beat cajun shrimp and sausage.. but you should've tried some crawfish.
Hi! Your videos are absolutely amazing! So fun and entertaining! I love the cooking ❤️ ps if u don’t want ur cutting board to slide so much when u cut, put a hand towel under it. 🙂
You needed to boil them water with the boil seasoning then let simmer for awhile then do your potatoes better flavors that way also citrus added would be another flavor bomb next time if you do,another boil
Mosquito tip from a fell RV'r Buddy: get yourself ONE small LED light, need everything else off and dark. The mosquitoes will have a "reunion" around it - then, using a 12 volt hand vacuum, collect them in that one cloud - let'em die overnight. Nice video, thanks!
Hi Ryan, new subscriber here and and ex van dweller. Your bringing back great memories to me, I built out a van for my first solo cross country road trip that took me 6 months. Lol I loved my van!! I spent 3 weeks in the keys which was my favorite besides the 2 weeks I spent in New Orleans, actually I had many many favorite places on that road trip. You are so lucky, giving me the bug to build another van and do another solo van road trip. Life’s short enjoy every minute and every sunset and sunrise 👍🏻
Love your content. I’ve been following you for a while… think about grabbing an electric bug zapper that is shaped like a paddle. Can’t wait to see what you get into next. Safe travels
The bug swatting montage killed me lmao. I’m definitely gonna try that recipe out. Thanks for another great video, I look forward to your videos every week!
new to the channel but ive been loving following along with this journey. I know close to nothing about cooking so watching you is helping me learn lol. Keep it up man!
Binge watched a lot of ur videos in the past two days. Great vids and funny that most the time you open a door something falls out. Few years back I lived and traveled full time in my rv. Next adventure is going to be a van build. Would like to see a future video if you building secure spots for things that tend to fall in video. Thx for the real content
Gumbo!!!! You should of had some authentic gumbo while in Louisiana! Sorry to be so late on this. I’m making a big pot for Super Bowl Sunday, but I’m way out here on the left coast, SoCal.
Great videos, Ryan! Your latest video reminded me. When you make it to Canada on the way to Alaska, bring your own bags. We don't have single serve (plastic) grocery bags and you have to pay for paper bags.
Found your channel the other day, as I'm feeling under the weather I've had time to lay back and I must have watched 20 vids already. Very easy to watch, you're very positive but real and you seem like a good person. Plus the food you make looks great. Greetings from Scotland 😄
Hi rayan started watching your RUclips love them hi from El Paso tx To give you a advice Back door under your bed wear the tool box at stuff water jugs you should but a curtain So look that messy k ❤ safe travels
Mate... just take a camping lantern / torch / your phone (any light source) and place it just outside the van doors. Switch off the van lights and open the door, wait 5 minutes, you'll find all the insects have left your van for the light source outside. Love your videos.
If you’re in WA State, Van Lifers sometimes hang out at Chamina Preserve in Richland, and Prosser has a hill that pulls your car up (Gravity Hill). You might want to check out.
This channel is awesome I have set a long term goal to have a Van and do some traveling within 5 years from now. I am excited for the shrimp boil, I thought we might see a shrimo and sausage gumbo but the boil is great as well. Be sure to listen to Born on the Bayou by Creedance Clearwater Revival!
Good video! Don't know how people do van life without but mesh on their door openings? You need to get a rechargeable bug zapper that looks like a tennis racket. They work like a charm. Thanks for showing the struggles of van life.
Ryan, try placing some paper towels under your cutting board, so it doesn't slip around. When you are cutting or chopping foods. A wet wash cloth works too.
You should check out one of these bug catchers, low power, almost no sound, has a black ring light that attracts them and a fan that sucks them into a container that has a sticky pad in the bottom of it. I keep one by my kitchen sink, and its amazing.
“I don’t know if you can see the bugs” trust me my friend we can definitely see them hahaha, but those shots from the counter while you were cookin was chefs kiss 🫡
On a road trip many years ago I slept in my car in Baton Rouge. It was so hot, muggy and humid that I had to roll my windows down. Five minutes later I had to roll them up because so many mosquitos had come in. Rinse and repeat, all night long. Worst night's sleep (or rather, lack of sleep) ever.
Thanks for returning your cart to the corral. Ryan, try to figure out you mosquito entry issue prior to getting into Canada, then AK .Years ago I was on a road trip and pulled into a gas station in Fort Nelson BC , (where they pump your gas) I pull up and an attendant walks over , and at first I thought he had on a fur shirt, but he wasn't wearing any t shirt or top but his entire body was covered in quarter sized mosquitos, and just the act of rolling down the window to talk to him the car got flooded with mosquitos....
Citronella candles, Deep Woods Off and air conditioning are a quick way to get rid of mosquitoes. You should keep in your van. You can burn two are three candles and they won’t come in your van. You don’t have to suffer.
Omg brooooo you gave me PTSD sawing away at that corn with the board moving knife moving….man chop the corn don’t saw it 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ glad you got all your fingers after that lol….love the vids 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
DO NOT REPLY TO ANYONE TELLING YOU TO TELEGRAM THEM. IT IS NOT ME AND IS A SCAM
Got it
Ryan you should checkout the casinos and the bridges in Lake Charles if you're headed that way!!!
Ik for some reason every time I comment on a vit it tells me to text them on telegram I don’t have that so I don’t worry
Figured as much, Brother!
I will try to watch and like all of videos
I really enjoy watching your videos Ryan. In my youth I made similar trips across the US while on leave from the Air Force. Now I’m an old man, with back and knee issues. Thankfully I can live vicariously through you and your adventures. Thank you 🫡
The food and location looked perfect minus the mosquitoes 😂. I can’t wait to get my van build complete and travel to different places like this!!
I subscribed to your channel man! 🤙🏼
@@BadAssDetailz oh wow!! Thank you!! I really appreciate it!!
Don’t stop with these videos!! I’m a German and watch every video of this trip! Love it ❤
Ich auch!

🤣🤣🤣
That boil looked amazing. The mosquito situation is my literal nightmare 😫

The mosquito onslaught really cracked me up. 🤣
Getting evicted by mosquitos is something I never thought would happen 💀, cheeky little buggers.
as soon as you said shrimp boil I knew it was gonna be a fun video. being from the panhandle its a favorite.
You gotta try this recipe its so good
Thanks!

Not in Louisiana. Most grocery stores have it fresh
I’m from Louisiana and I’m here to say . The shrimp and sausage should have been cooked with the corn and potatoes among other things but it’s okay
Yeah. I was confused. Never have seen anyone do a shrimp boil - without the shrimp and stuff in the pot with thr taters and corn!
😢, yuk, poor man, get out of there. I don’t like the mosquitoes at all,,,, I’m hoping that never happens again…
I'm from Germany and i thought the same
No lemons either.... Sigh.. Would still totally eat it tho. I actually think you might infuse a better garlic flavor to the shrimp cooking it that way.. But I'd still put em in the water ..Good job either way tho!

That is beautiful setup. Sunset right next to your bed.
For the bugs problem you should use bug spray. Just make sure it doesn't touch your food
You need one of those bug zappers. Looks like a tennis racket
A Chef letting you know. Really like the content you make. Thanks!
Jus made ur boil! It was so good! Happy trails from Window Rock, Arizona!

Mosquitoes are the #1 reason we never backpacked in La. We heard horror stories from other backpackers about them. Still a beautiful beach and sunset.
Gumbo!!!! You should of had some authentic gumbo while in Louisiana! Sorry to be so late on this. I’m making a big pot for Super Bowl Sunday, but I’m way out here on the left coast, SoCal.

Peppermint oil is your friend. Worse comes to worse use Vicks like a lotion. It also works great for sunburns.

Get yourself a thermacell. That way you can keep bugs away.
Vanlife has come a long way. His build is soooo perfect. And he makes full course meals every night.
I enjoy your videos. Keep up the great job. It's a shame you had to leave the beach. It would have been amazing to wake up to that sun rise.
A handheld vacuum would help a lot with the mosquitos !

Ryan Twomey bingo: "I think this might be my new favourite recipe that I've made in the van" ✔ 😉🤣
its the slipper at the end .... cherry on top
Love the video! For the bugs, the best investment I ever made for my van was an electric fly swatter. You can clear em out in a few minutes with one.
greetings from rainy germany. nice to see your content everyday.
