Ryan! Former cook at Michelin restaurants here. When cooking steaks, don't sear with butter. You're going to burn the butter and it will become rancid. Sear with an oil that has a high smoke point, like peanut, canola, rapeseed, or a mix of olive oil and canola. Then, once one of the sides are seared and has that nice colored crust, flip the steak and then add your butter, herbs, and garlic and then start basting. Never sear with butter!
Here's what I love: 1) Big props to your on point editing. You keep it interesting and engaging. 2) Your laid back approach yet adventurous style to check out the local vibes. Skateboarding was awesome! We did that nightmare LONG hike to get to the trailhead so that was fun to see. 3) Hanging plant makes it feel SO homey! 4) Though I dread cooking every.single.day your food looks yummy and I want to watch! :) When you make it up to the Colorado Springs area I've got you covered with ideas and adventures and sweet camping spots!
Aloha Ryan - Not too long ago, I remember watching while you were at 84,000 subscribers and today you are at 165, 000!!! Which is not surprising because your video content, your editing, the places you take us, the meals you prepare is so relaxing & exciting all at the same time. From way back when, I love how it’s always been you saying “we’re” going here & “we’re” doing this, it makes us feel like we are a part of this once in a lifetime van life adventure!! Thank you Ryan.
Love the video! If you want to REALLLY upgrade that filet experience, reverse your cooking order. 45 minutes at 225 degrees in the oven, followed by a 1 minute sear on each side...makes LITERALLY a perfectly cooked medium rare steak. Called the "reverse sear" technique and it's foolproof and the best I've ever had. Cheers!!
I've been binge watching all of your videos since last month when i first came across your channel. Love every single moment of it! You're an amazing content creator & most importantly a genuine person. Always here supporting Ryan! 1000000 subscribers next!
bro your videos are like so calming in a sense to watch i always watch it when i’m eating something and it’s almost like i’m eating with you and they are just so entertaining keep it up man
Yo i just wanna say you are a huge inspiration, ive been thinking about trying my hand at vanlife for like 8 years now, but after finding your content ive finally decided to go for it 💜 Thank you
Yo ryan!! love the videos. Pro tip: put the skate board sideways on your back inbetweeen the bag and your back. use the straps to keep it there!! helps a ton with stability plus you can still keep your bag packed!
Love how comfortable you are recording yourself while sitting alone eating, I could do it I just like to people watch so I’d be lookin around way more nervous like 😂
Great vlog with van home tour... now this is how you do it, sharing your travels! Gives people perspective of everything having a Vanhome! :) Thanks Ryan!
I’ve pretty much been binge-watching your videos lately. Your editing is superb. I like the pace. You keep it lively and show us beautiful scenery. I can also get a good sense of what van life is like.
what's cool is all the comments about people eating while they watch ryan's videos. i also usually find myself eating while watching these vids. and that means there's probably a chance that when you're here eating with ryan, you're also probably eating with someone else out there. you, a stranger, and ryan and his video. that's kinda a nice thought.
Cooking tip: if you take your garlic pod, slice it in half and then put the sliced piece of the garlic pod on the counter, and then with the back of your knife, hit the outside of the garlic pod and all of the garlic will come out and you can throw the peace light covering away. It saves a lot of time and it’s so much easier.
yey! another video. Another genuine, positive and adventurous one. Thanks for always letting us see and experience what you are experiencing while living at the back of your an and travelling. Love from Phil
Here's a suggestion for cooking steak. Forget the oven. Place the steak in a cold pan and bring it up to temp for 2 minutes. Flip. It will not look good but trust the process. Cook on the other side for 2 minutes. Flip. Continue this "constant flip method" every 2 minutes until they are done to your liking. You will ave more control and you will build up a fantastic crust. You can still baste on the last flip.
Just started watching your videos and I have to say your one of the few Van Life I see that value being "real" keep safe and please continue inspiring people to do what they love. God Bless.
Oh my goodness. I can't figure out why, but I'm hooked on your videos and I'm not getting my chores done! I keep telling myself that I'm just gonna watch one video, but nope, I just keep watching for hours. One day, it's gonna be me out there.
My day gets better whenever I see you post a new vid! Always gotta make sure I got something good to eat and drink when watching too. Love the content can’t wait to see you reach the end of this long journey!
Thanks for sharing your journey with us! I haven't been to Sedona for too long! I really love your approach. You keep it so real, the good, the bad and the everyday stuff make your vids so genuine and more fun to watch. They don't feel contrived like others do. Hi Ryan! New at your Camping Trips. Enjoyed Sedona even though it was short. I want to support you with more funds but I'm learning how this works to give you more funds. Man what a milestone, huge congratulations Ryan you deserve it all! Been watching for a few months and loving how the channel has progressed and enjoying every video you put up. Here’s to more big and even greater milestones! 🥳😊
I have some friends in Tucson and it's amazing to me how much different Northern and Southern Arizona are and Sedona is beautiful. Filets looked fine to me.
Thanks for the video! Haven't ever been to Sedona, but it's on my list for our 'empty' nest vacations in a few years. Congrats on the channel's popularity. Safe travels
key west...seattle...Carmel...Filet mignon, my favorite cut of meat. I forgot how stunning the landscape is in Sedona. The shops have a lot of good goodies!
This is gonna sound so depressing but your vids are the best part of my day they’re so good I wish I had the guts to make the sacrifices to do something like this but you make it feel like we’re there with you keep it up bro your killing it 🔥
Intresting details from the McDonald's drive by! You bring every video to an special event, look at this sunny day and woke up in fully snow covert van. 👍👍
I found your channel today snd ive been binge watching your videos all afternoon.. i love the site seeing you do ... I had a bad vrhicle accident yrs back and had to have spinsl surgery and suffer neuropathy and s bunch of issues that prevent me from doing stuff like this now. Im only 34. But i like watching the experience through the eyes of someone willing to share ghe experience. Thanks for your videos
Being from Arizona I hope you enjoyed California! But fr I've dropped many dueces in that safeway brother. Also I guess I should mention I proposed to my wife off trail on that same hike.
If you read this Ryan, try reverse searing your steaks since your oven is on the temperamental side lol. 280 degrees for like 20 minutes on each side and then finish off in your pan to sear/hard crust.
In AZ: Lee's Ferry / Horseshoe Canyon / Vermilian Cliffs (super scenic). There's also a cool historical homestead that you can actually go to and walk around the property. It's close to Page, AZ and could be a nice stop on your way to Mt. Zion. I've done that trip several times.
Next time try a reverse sear. Throw them in the oven at 375° for like 20-22 min, then get a skillet or pan piping hot and throw em on that for a good crust. Let sit 6 min and enjoy 👌🏻👌🏻
The reason to cover a steak is to get them to perfect medium rare at 130-132F if you take them out at 125F, as the foil and steam coming off the steaks will raise the internal temperature by 5 degrees give or take. if you think you overcooked your stakes, don't cover them and let them rest.
You mentioned the paper towels working well, but if you're at an auto parts store, they sell the gritty, heavy-duty cleaning wipes. I imagine that would work great for dirty feet as well!
When cooking a steak only use cast-iron skillets and get them very very hot. The pan you were using cannot take that kind of heat and will warp. Cook one and a half minutes on each side and you have your medium rare. No need to stick in an oven. Will come out perfect every time.
Been watching you since winter trip episode 2. You seem cool asf!!! Keep up the great work! RUclipsrs like yourself inspire me to want to make my own camping vids. All because I enjoy the videos like yours. Thank you.
Best thing I ever did for cooking steak was getting an internal thermometer that you leave in while you cook. MEATER makes a good one that even sends alerts to your phone when to take the meat out, how long to rest, how long it has left, etc. Highly recommended.
Bro is living my life 😅, I wish keep up the content my man, ill be living that life soon myself, always loved the outdoors and beauty of nature, you'll never be alone earth is there for yuh

Place the skateboard sideways with grip tape facing backpack behind the straps. I use to do it when I was a kid works great. It’s like a skateboard on handlebars.
Ryan one day, you should come up and explore eastern Canada and all we have to offer. It’s nothing like western Canada, while they’re both amazing, the east coast is so different and the people are warm and welcoming. You could do a tour starting at the top of Newfoundland and go through New Brunswick, then down to the tip of Nova Scotia
Random! i usually cook my filets 2 minutes each side piping hot TO get a good sear, then pan on medium and baste until she looks good. Great video i always enjoy kicking back and watching an episode of the van life.
