Sounds like you can't go wrong with either. Just bought the Sky + for $150US. Asics has a GREAT discount for healthcare (and other) workers! Hoping to get the AF 2 for Boston in the spring...
Bought Alphafly Version 1 last week on a big discount, raced in my Metaspeed Sky yesterday evening and feel that the Nike are a completely different feel to the Asics
Finally the Sky+ / Alphafly V2 comparison. I think this is better than comparing to the Vaporfly. Now please do one with the Alphafly V1 as a lot of people (including myself) might grab the Alphafly V1 when it goes on discount. 😜
I love the NIKE Alphafly. The price is high but my challenge is more about finding them!!! When I notice a shoe being promoted there are no where to be found to purchase. 😮
Reviews coming out thick and fast love it. Off topic but just picked up the Hoka Mach 4 loved them straight out the box looking forward to putting the miles in them. Happy running 🏃✌️
Hoping to find a good, efficient running shoe for the marathon that is helpful for slower runners without forcing a faster pace. This sounds like it might do it.
Have you guys got any plans to review the ASICS Glideride 3 at the moment? Heard lots of great things so far and would be interested to hear your thoughts!
I wonder how much weight could be saved on the Alphafly if that big protruding heel was removed. I can't see that it does anything to justify it's sticking out like that.
Thanks for the review! Hope you guys will review more carbon plated shoes such as the adidas adios pro 3 and the NB fuelcell. Maybe you can even compare a budget carbon plated shoe to the more expensive ones. I do think they are ridiculously overpriced despite the extra push they may give.
There's this Indonesian brand called Ortuseight and they have perhaps the cheapest carbonplate shoes around, 80$ or something, it's called the Hypersonic. It's been worn in Boston Marathon by an Indonesian athlete. Don't know how people outside Southeast Asia can get them though.
@@TheRunTesters - I’ve ordered a pair…hope they’re good! I’ve seen a couple of people prefer them over the Sky+ and sounds like they might suit me too. Looking how ASICS explain the shoes and how you describe the way you run I figure they could suit you.
Question for Nick (and obviously Kieran if has thoughts on it)....... When you (Nick) said the Alphafly felt good when you were locked into a pace.........I'd assume your race pace is 3;15-3:25 ish depending on distance?? but felt less so when slipping off that (lets say 3:45 ish pace). How do you feel this would translate to a runner aiming at a Marathon ave pace at 5:00/km as this is way lower than your worst pace.... I have a feeling (obviously) that the Alphafly really reveals itself at paces it is designed ie at fast paces where all the tech is employed to optomise it's performance..... I wonder if this is negated for slower runners?................Thoughts?
I’ve always kind of felt the shoes feel best at whatever an individual runner’s fast pace is. So if you’re running with purpose at whatever pace that means for you, it feels good. I found dropping down to 4/k still felt great in the 2 as well, with my mara pace being 3:25-30ish, so even on steadier stuff it was nice!
I can answer this as I run half marathon about 5.10km and used the alphafly. I also ran Manchester in 4hr 10 for my first marathon. I would say it helped me on both runs. They are just a pleasure and protect your legs at any pace. I would not use them for my easy runs though lol. Puma velocity's for that. 6 per km. I am 15stone and size 10. So I hope that helps.
Very helpful review. Any suggestions on what you would pair with the AF2 as a training shoe (since you mentioned that you wouldn’t pair the Sky+ with it, which makes total sense)?
Glad it was handy! I (Nick) have always enjoyed using the Endorphin Speed in partnership with the Alphafly. Different ride feel but great shoe, and nothing feels quite like the Alphafly really!
Quick question if I may - i found first alphafly had a high arch compared all other supershoes that for me became very uncomfortable near the end of a marathon. Is the alphafly 2 arch also elevated compared with others? Thanks
Another great video. Question: What is the life span of such super shoes? As in KMs, but more importantly, in time. Could see myself buying a pair for race days (would obviously practice/train in them occasionally), but as someone who only races a few times per year, race shoes last me years. Do you know from your reps or even your own experience with such shoes if this 'super' foam would deteriorate over say 2-3 years? I can understand that they may only be good for a few hundred KMs but would they be 'flat'/'dead' after 18 months with only a couple of races in them and about 100km.
Personally I (Nick) would. I really rate the Alpha 1, though it’s not to everyone’s tastes. All very close, the Alpha 1 prob the best deal of the three right now and performance is top notch
Welcome What is the right shoe for a man who walks 4 to 6 miles daily, running at a low to medium speed, knowing that my feet are normal and not flat Thanks
just go to your local running store and let them fit you. if you dont have any, brooks, new balance, and asics are always safe options. consider half or full size up from your typical shoe length. you want a thumb nail of space for your toes to splay out
Doctors of Running just did a review/podcast of the Mizuno Horizon 6 and addressed exactly this as a recommendation. It has great cushion and the stability elements actually are helpful for standing and being on foot in a work environment all day.
For my the best is de Metaspeed Sky v1... in my size 12 USA is weight 226g... de new Alphafly in my size weight more than 300g... too much por a marathon race. Asics is better for big sizes. It's my opinion.
I've found that most carbon plate shoes are awkward to walk having less of that cushion/spring because you aren't putting the same amount of weight down as running. I would recommend asics cumulus 24 because they are better cusioned than the nimbus, which is better for longer distances imo.

@@AGC828 what we've learnt from modern racing shoes is that fatigue resistance trumps lightweight. The old way of thinking was that the best shoes should offer just enough protection while keeping volume of the shoe as minimalistic as possible. Vaporflys proved that lots of super soft foam delays muscle breakdown and a carbon fibre plate on the forefoot provides the stiff and resposive pushoff that had never been optimised until the vaporfly.
I agree! I tried the OG Alphafly but they were so uncomfortable that any performance benefits become moot as I couldn't imagine wearing them for a marathon. I find the Vaporfly Next% much more 'accessible' for a range of foot types even if it's not quite as fast.

Those shoes are the opposite of what you are looking for.
You don’t need or want a carbon racing shoe for that. Look for protective light daily trainer

With your review as per me i just order metaspeed sky +
The nike heel looks like it will save a lot more fatigue in the soleus / calf than the basics which means more efficient for longer if I am correct

Worth using opposite sides shoes for comparison for when you line them up so we can compare widths
Everytime is see slowmo footage of the ASICS people seem to be pronating inwards like crazy. Almost collapsing.

Hello! do you think is worth buying the sky plus for the price of 125€, for 10k training ?
How is the length between sky and sky+? The reason is because the original sky seems too short.
What do the numbers that you wrote on the outside of the Alphafly’s midsole indicate?
When is the Alphafly 2 coming out for general release in the USA?
Would you use either of these for a 90km road race? I am not sure what shoe to use!!
They increased the drop of the alphafly?
