Having a conversation at 3:40 pace seems crazy to me. I’m still struggling to hit 4:00/km for my 5k (20:16 currently PB) so a 3:40:km for a marathon is unreal!
I have used the Alphafly on a ton of 10K to 1/2 marathons and one marathon. I love them. I am even evil enough to think the noise is psyching out other runners as I catch them.
Wow! You must've been hearing my thoughts, because I was just thinking about these 3 shoes and was wondering which should be used for which running/racing and the differences between them. Great video Ben!
Used the Alphas on 10 mile race last Sunday - PB by just under 1 min. Thinking of running the Manchester Marathon in them. Might try a long training run first and the decide.
I prefer the Streakfly over 5k, but I guess it depends on the course. The Streakfly is better over a more technical course and given how much less expensive it is it really punches above its weight.
Great video, entertaining & informative. I currently race in the alpha Fly & looking to get a pair of the streak racer for the shorter road races & track sessions. The other model I would wear those for style. Anyway, thanks for posting &all the best in your training & your Manchester marathon!
Absolutely fantastic quality video, great camera, great sound quality, good music, really informative content! Love the transitions where sarah passes camera to Ben just as he finishes interval!
Well done Ben! I like the video with the vaporfly being positive because one time when I was running with my vaporlfy in Poland someone came to me and said they are stupid shoe and they hit me so it was a bad run but now I have seen this video there is positive experience in shoe and all is balanced now so thanks Ben
They were jealous because they couldn’t afford them probably. Uhhhh, that sucks how somebody physically touched you. I wouldn’t let that go. We would be fighting.
Depends a lot about your running style and weight, hiw much kilometers you get from your shoes. I am somewhat lightweight and resonably ok form and I have run around 1500-2000km already with my Vaporflys! Have just recently (last couple hundred kilometers...) started to feel that maybe it is ok chance to new pair (witch I have had in my closet for a year or so) and maybe do some comparison. The height of the shoe has already got down like 6-8mm comparing to new pair of Vapors, so most likely cushoning is not the best anymore. Well, has not bothered that much as I have not raced in over a year now, done just tempos and threshold paces and minority of speed work with these and felt still ok! Have not yet tried the alphaflys yet, have those also in my closet, thinking those would be my marathon/Ironman race shoes, but need some testing!
Such a great video - thanks, Ben. Still deciding which shoes to get for Edinburgh (and probably London) this year. Was thinking Alphas, but Vapors still with a chance now...
Hi Ben, having watched one of your videos I've just bought a pair of Ascics nimbus gel 26. I'm training for the Burgess Marathon in Burgess park in London on 28th September. Your videos are very motivational. All the best with your training
I haven't tried the Streakfly (don't normally get on with unisex shoes as I have narrow feet even for a woman) but I personally prefer the Alphafly to the Vaporfly and I'm a heel striker but I do have a high cadence. I don't have an issue with the vaporflys feeling unstable but I have read a lot of heel strikers don't get on with them because of the instability. Personally though the 4mm drop and the design of the Alphafly just seems to work better for me. Not really sure why though!
Alphafly to me is the GOAT shoe. The fit is perfect for my feet, with a large enough toe box (which is suprising for nike !) and the ride is extremely soft and bouncy, because the plat kinda pushes on the airpod, while on the vaporfly (and most carbon plated shoe) it pushes on the outsole so it feels firmer they're still fast for short distance (I got my mile PR in them) Idk why I waited so long to try them, only because they're sold as "marathon rac day only shoe", because they're versatile enough and still a bit durable They have everything I like about a shoe
Good session and interesting test. Looking at your Strava for this, you appeared to run the same route in each shoe so no bias there - well assuming the tailwind on the return "fast" leg was not increasing? On the face of it though the Alphafly "wins" hands down with little in between the other two but, without any HR data, hard to quantify whether that was merely down to trying a lot harder in the Alphafly or an actual shoe effect or bit of both? In my own testing, I saw nothing in the Streakfly to think would be faster over even 5K than the NEXT%. Lower weight yes but not massively noticeable and still think 5K is a fair way and just found, as you did mention, that the NEXT% just "helps" more and is more cushioned and responsive than the Streakfly. Haven't tested the Alphafly of late but did tend to find the NEXT% and Alphafly similar but just prefer running in the NEXT% so have never used the Alphafly in a race as yet.
Yes.. as I don’t train with HR data, it’s hard to show effort. Plus doing a rep at 25-30k is quite different from 5-10k elapsed of the run. But tried to keep it roughly the same. Will see what happens in my 5k race on Friday.. would usually go vaporfly, but going to try the Streakfly.. then will be able to do a full review!
@@BenParkes out of pure curiosity (honestly) why do you not use heart rate to monitor performance? I personally enjoy looking at my heart rate at its max when doing hard efforts (I don’t use the data to enhance my performance or anything - I just enjoy suffering and seeing my heart rate close to its maximum). The whole ‘heart rate zones’ for training thing is not good science in my opinion (I am an NHS scientist in Pathology so I have read the literature on heart rate training which is controversial)
@@jimjamthebananaman1 I also monitor my heart rate mostly out of curiosity. Can you expand on what is problematic with the zones research ? I have never really looked into
I like using my alpha fly for easy runs around my neighborhood blocks, I’m a forefoot striker so I really enjoy the ride . Being a big guy I probably sound like a Clydesdale coming down the street 😉

I’m training for the Vienna marathon. For shoes I have 4 in rotation: for speed sessions (anything from 1 mile to 200m repeats or fartlek) I use the Hoka Rincon 3, for easy and recorvery runs the Asics Gt 1000 10 or On Cloudstratus, for tempos and marathon efforts I use the Rincon 3 or my Carbon X 2 (which will be my marathon race shoe), and for longruns the Carbon X 2, very rarely the On. My favorite is the Rincon, but most comfortable is the Asics (I wouldn’t use it for anything faster than easy runs though) :)
Vaporfly is my favourite of the 3. I like the Streakfly too though I find it slower over most distances except maybe a road mile where the lighter weight of the Streakfly may give it the edge. Have never got on with the Alphafly which feel heavy and cumbersome and don't like the noise they make though if your into marathons they probably the best shoe.
I do all my training in Saucony, Triumph 19 for easy/long runs and Endorphin Speeds for sessions and race pace stuff. However, I wear Vaporfly on 5k races and am planning on wearing Alphaflys at Brighton Half and full Marathons! Obviously you can't wear or try all the shoes lol but I'm surprised you don't wear more Saucony shoes!

out of interest why are you not using pro's for racing if you're such a Saucony fan? I am still dabbling on my next marathon shoe - wore the Speed v1 for last years, but were quite sore after 26.2.
Great video Ben, sadly it's all academic for me because I over pronate so I'm left with the boring support shoes. Not one manufacturer has made a fancy race day shoe for us. 😭
If over pronate the Tempo next % should be good for you. The react foam in the heel is firmer with a wide base, the heel cup is supportive and the platform for the air pods is ultra wide. One of my favorite shoes!
Streakfly are currently on offer direct. Just torn between sizes now! 😂 8’s are almost perfect (but think I will get some toebox rubbing) and 9’s the material scrunches up which looks odd! Looked strong on those training efforts
You're going to hate me my friend. But I have recently tried the Saucony Endorphin Pro's, I have truly gained 20-30 seconds a mile, with the same heart rate average. I've put about 60-70 miles on them so far, and they still seem good. For me, I just cannot buy Nike products, but hey, to each their own.
I hated when all my Pods deflated on both pairs of my Tempo Next%, so no more AirPods for me, I am looking forward to getting a pair of the StreakFlys.
I've got streakfly and vaporfly 2s. For some reason I can run faster over same course in streakfly, but when I run equal pace over same course and equal weather, my power in watts is a lot less in vaporfly 2s.
Im thinking it might be the stack hight together with the squishy zoomX foam. They might be excellent for long distances, but maybe not the best for 5k for some people who even strike midfoot.
I always look forward to running in my alphafly's the only downside is a slightly high arch but it's bearable. I haven't tried the other two though I have saucony triumph 19 for every day runs.
Not sure how relevant the RRPs are right now: Nike's shop has the Alphafly going cheaper than the Vapourfly with a good selection of sizes. I went for the Alphas earlier this year for that reason. They felt fast from the first run, but they rubbed my arch enough to cause a bit of blistering after 8 km. I thought I would have to return them, but after breaking them in with another run or two and wearing them around the house a bit, the problem has gone away and I'm looking forward to doing my first marathon with them later this year.
Interesting to hear as I suffer from the same issue with the Alphafly l purchased the Alphafly to be my next Marathon shoe but have kind of set them aside for 10k races and under due to the arch rub issue (on the left side only). I have broken 5 mile, 5k and 10k PB's all in the Alphafly over the last few months so a bit of a shame about the arch rub issue. I am loving the Metaspeed Sky atm and hope to have a crack at my first Sub 90 Half in them on March 20th after doing a 1:31 training run (which included a 2 mile WU followed by a few tempo miles) in them a few weeks ago. It's looking like it will be a decision between the tried and tested RC Elite v2 and the Metaspeed Sky for my Spring Marathon shoe for me but it's good to hear that running longer distances in the Alpha may not be a permanent write off 👍😊 Looking forwards to seeing if the Endorphin Pro 3 and the New Balance SC Elite can offer an upgrade to my line up for the autumn and perhaps the Metaspeed Sky 2 could be with us by then too?
Thx for vid. Finally I start your training program for sub 3:30 for Marathon. just in week 2. but gonna b hard when Im a shift worker and some week I job 64 houer. Still I have not found a marathon to run here in Sweden ( except Sälen. thats mandatory ) Gonna try to follow it and perhaps try a marathon by my self. Regardless I gonna improve
Ankle is ok now! I really don't notice it anymore. The first 6 months were hard, only because I couldn't run as much as I wanted to.. but still achieved a PB during that time!
Great video Ben, I have Alphaflys & NB Fuelcell RC elite V2 & was wondering which to wear for Village bakery half in Wrexham a week on Sunday, leaning towards the Alphas for definite now after watching this... Cheers
If you look at proven design. Vaporfly 2 is the way to go. Just look at pegasus 39, a shoe love by all levels. alphafly 2 is more expensive and usually used by pro only so the actual review might be bias.
I’ve never heard of somebody busting their Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%. I use them for recovery runs and when the weather is bad but I never hit the front of those shoes hard. I hit the fronts in Alpha Flys. Anyway great video as always.
Hi Ben! I commented on your strava asking about shoes but I asked about the wrong ones haha, I am debating between the Streak Fly and Zoomfly 4, any recommendations? for a trainer. And do either of them have any plates?
Hi Ben! Nice video again! I have an issue nowadays with choosing my marathon shoe, for Bilbao in 1 month now for 2:55 or less if possible: I bought a pair of Vaporfly Next% Gyakusou on sale, and it was my "natural" choice, but during a long training session (37K) they bruise my ankles 😥😥... a lot! I think it was due to the massive laces that they come with. I changed the laces and will give another chance to them... I have a pair of Vaporfly 4% in which I made Sevilla 2 years ago in 3:07:09, with 100k only, that may be an option. And I have also a pair of Tempo Next, that I have been using for training and to race last weekend. They are very confortable, and I was tending to usem them instead of Vaporfly until I watched you video until the end.. 🤔🤔 What do you think about this options? And the community, any opinions and experience to share? Next% or 4% or Tempo???? Thanks to you all!
Love the Tempo%. Could do everything in them. Had a pair of Gyakusou on sale, returned them. Toes and arch just get bloodied up even in a 12km run. Not for my foot. And the red colour was all over my white socks… seems more of a fashion shoe.
Ben, new subscriber here, loved the vid. Just a question, you seemed pretty negative throughout the video on the Alphaflys, but then said you would probably choose them for your marathon. Could you elaborate? Cheers, Brad. (ps-I have the next %2's and just bought Alphaflys and planning on doing my first marathon in July).
What do these fit like compared to Nike Pegasus. I'm flat footed, so I wanted to know if the vapour fly or the other ones will fit well or come up to narrow compared to the Pegasus
You said you have had many pairs of Nike Tempo next% AirPods break- were they all after a lot of miles? And have you heard anyone break a pair of alphaflys in the same way? Would certainly be a big concern for a major race - surprised you would risk it
I am sure those Nike shoes are great, but I have narrow feet and when ever I have tried them they always feel uncomfortable with that diagonal lace system. I have seen various runners on RUclips where the shoe looks distorted on the foot due to that lace system. Have to say I feel much more suited to the Adidas shoes and find them more comfortable for my feet.
For a marathon, what would your pick be between the Vaporfly and RC Elite v2...? Does the comfort of the RC Elite come into play over a marathon or is the performance not as fast as vaporfly?
The RC Elite is way more comfortable.. but in my experience not as fast. The RC Elite will suit many people, but the Alphafly won't because of comfort amongst other issues. The Alphafly works for me, so I'd pick that!
Nice video Ben. Those alpha flies were so loud in the london marathon, worn by 1000s of runners. My NB elite v2 were silent in comparison. That's a big part of the feel of running for me. I've been using the nike invincible run for my long run and they are also bordering on too noisy. Is it the foam, or the sole?
Can someone explain to me why the Alphafly are 39mm while the Vaporfly are 40mm, and Alphas look at least 4mm higher than the Vaporfly? And for me, the Alphas really seem also slightly taller than the Tempo Next%, which is supposed to be “illegal”stack hight of 44mm (for pros illegal) is there some shady bias going on for Alphafly for race days? Haha
Hi Ben…nice and balanced review and lovely weather to train. Do you think Streakflys are actually better than Next %s over 5-10k or they are just a good compromise for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of £££ ? Streakfly are not yet available in India but excited to try them out whenever that is (Hint hint for the giveaway 😜😂)
Would you say if someone was okay using the rebel v2 for long runs up to 22 miles do you feel the streakfly would be okay? I went off the rebels because they lacked stability on the lateral side.
Evening hope all’s well with you both?I run a 10k yesterday in just under thirty four minutes (hilly coarse)so I intended to get a recovery run in tonight but I don’t seem to be able to slow down enough meaning I’m not getting the benefits of a slow run I just don’t know how you and the likes of Seth are able to change down your speed ? Hope this isn’t to garbled cp🏃🏻♂️
i agree with the alphaflys being too loud. i was doing a training run on the Boston course and the group was complaning how loud they were. Haven't reached for them much since. I even ran Boston marathon couple weeks later in the next % lol.
I very much regret buying tempos for this very same reason. LOUD, so loud people turn to look when I run and it makes me feel like an ass. For my next trainer volume will be an important consideration. The pods feel nice, but the trade off is not worth it.
Who cares what others think! Yes they are louder than most other shoes but it's hardly noise pollution! 😆 If they work better for you than your other shoes, don't make compromises by choosing another shoe just to keep the peace.
@@ShinetsuYuki I heel strike too and find the Vaporfly suits me better also. I am going to experiment and try heel inserts in the Alphafly to increase the heel to toe drop.
Whats the reason not to wear a hr strap for this test? Or is it just mental health issue? Then I understand. Very good video otherwise, the order of the shoes were spot on. I just really lack the more "scientific" approach to the test.

Good luck in your race!
Genuine question: How do they seem so clean after running with them? I've heard you shouldnt put them in the washing machine
Good luck Göran!
Just picked up some bargain alphas from Keller at £140. Hoping to go under 3hr 15 at Manchester
Wow, great price! Good luck Jake!
Ben, how is your ankle now? Was it hard to get back in to running once you were given the thumbs up to run again?
Ankle is ok now! I really don't notice it anymore. The first 6 months were hard, only because I couldn't run as much as I wanted to.. but still achieved a PB during that time!
Great video Ben, I have Alphaflys & NB Fuelcell RC elite V2 & was wondering which to wear for Village bakery half in Wrexham a week on Sunday, leaning towards the Alphas for definite now after watching this... Cheers
Good luck in your race Jim!
If you look at proven design. Vaporfly 2 is the way to go. Just look at pegasus 39, a shoe love by all levels. alphafly 2 is more expensive and usually used by pro only so the actual review might be bias.
I really wished a view like this.
you said you would pick Streakfly for 5k. what about 10k race? Streakfly or the other two carbon plated shoes?
For me I think vaporfly would be better at 10k
I’ve never heard of somebody busting their Nike Air Zoom Tempo NEXT%. I use them for recovery runs and when the weather is bad but I never hit the front of those shoes hard.
I hit the fronts in Alpha Flys.
Anyway great video as always.
I run 3ks often and am wondering which shoe would be best for races. Any suggestions?
Hi Ben! I commented on your strava asking about shoes but I asked about the wrong ones haha, I am debating between the Streak Fly and Zoomfly 4, any recommendations? for a trainer. And do either of them have any plates?
16-17kmh!!!! Awesome 👍
Hi Ben! Could you do the Bedford park run again?
We don’t have any plans to be in the area in the near future.. but if that changes we’ll go!
@@BenParkes Thanks! Love the content!

Hi Ben! Nice video again!
I have an issue nowadays with choosing my marathon shoe, for Bilbao in 1 month now for 2:55 or less if possible:
I bought a pair of Vaporfly Next% Gyakusou on sale, and it was my "natural" choice, but during a long training session (37K) they bruise my ankles 😥😥...
What do you think about this options?
They have a lot of annoying issues, but even so, they are still a very fast shoe overall.
What do these fit like compared to Nike Pegasus. I'm flat footed, so I wanted to know if the vapour fly or the other ones will fit well or come up to narrow compared to the Pegasus
Would you pick the Takumi Sen 8 or the Streakfly?
You said you have had many pairs of Nike Tempo next% AirPods break- were they all after a lot of miles? And have you heard anyone break a pair of alphaflys in the same way? Would certainly be a big concern for a major race - surprised you would risk it
They were all around 600-800km. So used, but earlier than you’d hope to change shoes. I’ve heard of Alphaflys popping, but never seen it.
Advice to reach your level? I can run half marathon in 1hour 50. Did almost 2 months of training now
Hi Ben, what about the. Vaporfly 3 on a track competition, 1500 meters? Or can i only use them for a road/ street competition ?
I am sure those Nike shoes are great, but I have narrow feet and when ever I have tried them they always feel uncomfortable with that diagonal lace system. I have seen various runners on RUclips where the shoe looks distorted on the foot due to that lace system. Have to say I feel much more suited to the Adidas shoes and find them more comfortable for my feet.
Running in adidas for the next video!
@@BenParkes wheres the gilet from? Is it available
I noticed that you have the Rebel in lots of shots what's your opinion of them and the Rebel 3 if you have them
For a marathon, what would your pick be between the Vaporfly and RC Elite v2...? Does the comfort of the RC Elite come into play over a marathon or is the performance not as fast as vaporfly?
The RC Elite is way more comfortable.. but in my experience not as fast. The RC Elite will suit many people, but the Alphafly won't because of comfort amongst other issues. The Alphafly works for me, so I'd pick that!
Hi Ben.Where are you seeing the Streakfly for 135 pounds!?
Nice video Ben. Those alpha flies were so loud in the london marathon, worn by 1000s of runners. My NB elite v2 were silent in comparison. That's a big part of the feel of running for me. I've been using the nike invincible run for my long run and they are also bordering on too noisy. Is it the foam, or the sole?
Its probably the rubber
Can someone explain to me why the Alphafly are 39mm while the Vaporfly are 40mm, and Alphas look at least 4mm higher than the Vaporfly? And for me, the Alphas really seem also slightly taller than the Tempo Next%, which is supposed to be “illegal”stack hight of 44mm (for pros illegal) is there some shady bias going on for Alphafly for race days? Haha
Ben was the weight differences between the 3 huge or not that noticeable once at pace?
Certainly noticeable
Hi Ben…nice and balanced review and lovely weather to train. Do you think Streakflys are actually better than Next %s over 5-10k or they are just a good compromise for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of £££ ? Streakfly are not yet available in India but excited to try them out whenever that is (Hint hint for the giveaway 😜😂)
Will find out in the 5k race on Friday! Will be close for sure
@@BenParkes Have a great race … Good luck !
Would you say if someone was okay using the rebel v2 for long runs up to 22 miles do you feel the streakfly would be okay? I went off the rebels because they lacked stability on the lateral side.
I personally wouldn’t run that far in them. But if you were ok in the rebel then these would be similar!
what are them short you have on when running in the alphafly the purple ones would suit my club top ??
They are from Nike
Plz tell me which use i bought for 1600 meter race ..in 5:30 minute ....which give me bounce while running
Can I use vaporfly to 1km Run...???
Yes :-)
Did you find in your streakfly trainers you should of went for a half size smaller anyone??? Cheers
Could we have a video streakfly vs the sen 8 please
See Tim Grose's recent video . He's got both and the Dragon flies doing 10x800
Filming that today!
Plot twist streakfly win
Are any of these shoes banned from competition?
You can use any of them in road races. Not track races
anyone know the song at 8:50?
Evening hope all’s well with you both?I run a 10k yesterday in just under thirty four minutes (hilly coarse)so I intended to get a recovery run in tonight but I don’t seem to be able to slow down enough meaning I’m not getting the benefits of a slow run I just don’t know how you and the likes of Seth are able to change down your speed ? Hope this isn’t to garbled cp🏃🏻♂️
Endorphin Elite
First time Thamesmead has been described as beautiful 😂
Well.. it is ok by the river!
@@BenParkes definitely, I do must of my runs between woolwich and thamesmead. I’ve got no chance of winning any segments thanks to you haha
i agree with the alphaflys being too loud. i was doing a training run on the Boston course and the group was complaning how loud they were.
@@jonnygspot4 I heel strike. I'm not getting the full benefit out of the shoe regardless.
No Zoom Fly? :(
I get it. I’m the only person who seems to have found the sweet spot for the ZF4. #bigbonedflatfootedrunner. Maybe I should do my own video with all 4 Flys.
4.15 easy pace. Okay....
Damn I can't even breath properly not to say talking...my average speed is 6-7km/h cause I have a weak heart. Two times heart attacks survivor
👌🏽
Well I hope you get the times that you do when you're 6'10. 😂 You've got those long legs to get cracking. I have the short stubby legs there's no way I'm getting those times.
I like your hydration theory. Grab a glass of beer hydrate and keep running.😂
