I feel you are so bang on with your shuffle comment. When I raced marathons in the Alphafly I had to increase my cadence, and fight to maintain pace. The alphafly was fighting back against me. The Vapor fly's are more responsive to my tired my legs.
Just bought the vaporfly 3 which are my first vaporflys. I race mostly triathlons so the run split is only 5-10k. I can’t wait to race in these in some upcoming 2024 races. Thanks for the reviews, always love hearing about shoes from this channel
Vaporfly has been the preferred shoe but that's because the weight difference was much greater until now. Now that the Alphafly is much closer weight, the air pods energy return will no doubt be worth half an ounce in weight gain.
Thanks for the comparison! I’m leaning towards the alphafly to replace my vaporfly 2, but nervous the alphafly isn’t aggressive enough for a half marathon, but you’ve made me feel better about the idea.
I'm not getting on with the vaporfly 3 Nick. I went from the 1's to the 3's and much prefer the ones. I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of them as their killing my calves.
Thanks for the great review Very tempted to get AF3’s for Manchester marathon in April and put my VF2’s to work for some of my faster training sessions 😊
@@aSkibidiRunnervaporflyis better for any races half marathon (13.1 miles) and shorter, while the alpha fly is geared more for the marathon. Can you not read
Most definitely! I noticed Vaporfly 3 is great for a 5K. I feel I can sprint better with the V3. At least the Alphaflys are great for long runs than 5K
Alphafly for all distances, except track events. Alphafly provides more padding and a longer stride length for the same effort and will allow maintaining speed to the end of a race. I agree that the Vaporfly feels faster, but it isn't faster in my experience.
The Stat Attack chart is amazing to me because the numbers are so different / better than mine. Interested in a similar chart, with the same shoes, over various race distances, and a comparison with the other Run Testers and perhaps a recreational runner.
I loved the V2 and set 5,10,21k PBs in them. Fast and direct and never felt aware of them as I ran. The firmness and kick helps to activate good reflexes in my legs to keep good form and fast pace. Just bought A3 and they feel squishy and less direct, a bit unstable really. Ran a 5k to test them and they seemed fine and ran close to PB pace. Then ran a 10k at close to PB so probably just as fast as V2. Lots of turns on 10k course and had to slow a lot to prevent roll on corners as such a high stack and unsupportive mesh upper. Calves felt uncomfortable during 10k which I never have before. Now trying to decide whether to go back to V2 for upcoming 21k as I know they are perfect for me or roll the dice and see if A3 will somehow give me an advantage 🤔
I am absolute shite at running but I am running the marathon next year. These shoes are pointless for me but I like them. Which one is best for a 5 and half hour marathon?
Looking at the vaporfly 3, my mind was made up....but. I keep hearing how the vaporfly 3 quickly falls apart. Anyone got advice as to whether the alpafly 3 have better durability?
Hoping for my first sub 3 in London 2024 - currently run in Saucony Pro 3 - would you say AF3 is a clear upgrade? Saucony pro 3 got me a 3:06 in Edinburgh - so every second saved will be very helpful
Just by looking at your foot strikes in the 'Comparison Workout' section of the video, it looks like the AF3 is more aggressive with the shoe constantly propelling you forwards, whereas with the VP3 your toes tended to point upwards. I'm not a huge fan of the VF3 and prefer the Next%s, yet will definitely be trying to get hold of the new AF3 in the prototype colours .
Hi Nick, thank you for your comparison! looks irt's not easy to compare these both as they're are both great racing shoes, the best of the best. For me seems that Vaporfly series was great for up to half marathonn though I haven't tried to race full marathon in vaporflys, so far I 've decided for alphaflys for marathon as I think last 10K, from 33rd km is crucial for marsthon and there's where I think Alphaflys help to keep holding pace as you mentioned. But now Vaporfly 3 are more cushioned than version 2 so maybe better and easier to finish marathon. But if Alphaflys 3 looks now as the best Alphaflys, so probably the best to tackle 42K. All the Best and Happy new year! Wish you another nice PBs this year!
Now we’re seeing huge discounts on the Saucony Elite, how does that compare to these two? Spotted a £175 deal on the Elite, and wondering if the AF3 is worth the extra £110 for a marathon A-Race as a semi-quick runner aiming for Sub 2:50 🤔 Thanks for all the great content!
@@davidpage8147. Please be honest…are you just a “Nike Hater”? Because there is no cost-savings between the Saucony Endorphin Elite and either shoes in this video
I'll stick to my plan. Fresh new pair of vaporfly 3 for Paris half marathon and fresh new pair of Alphafly 2 for Paris marathon. Kipchogue edition. I feel like this alphafly 3 is more for everyone. I actually miss the vaporfly 2. That pressure to make new shoes and change everything is quite dumb to be honest.
The Vaporfly is quite unique in the sea of “super shoes”. Most aim for high stack high with really soft foam. The Vaporfly 2 wasn’t full stack and didn’t compress a lot. The Vaporfly 3 is great but it’s moving away from thin and minimal.
Vaporfly 2 is/was a superb shoe. I bought more when the 3 came out and they got a bit discounted. I don't see why people just jump to the next shoe as soon as it comes out when the last one did everything they needed. I've raced and got PBs from 5k to marathon distance in them, and used them in multiple triathlon run legs - and they're flawless. Fast, comfortable, never so much as a hot-spot. No reason to change them! They're even tough enough that I use them a couple of times a month for track type intervals and they have lasted really well.
I would break the shoes in for sure before competition. Don't want to wear your feet out. I have the Adidas pro 3s love then by the way, with a vktry insole (ones made for track shoes and slimmer) I needed 3 sessions of 6-10 miles in them before a comp.
I'd love to try one of these, but as someone with a very wide forefoot (splaying toes/high arches) and a slightly wide Midfoot, Nike just doesn't seem accommodating. I've heard the recent versions of these shoes are more accommodating, with more volume and a little more width in the forefoot. If you cannot recommend with of these for the wide foot fam, are there more accommodating alternatives?
V3 very comfy & responsive but terrible durability, best up to 21k(heel was worn off after 40k...pegasus + vimero only starts wearing after 450km) . Alphafly 3 looks decently durable with that outsole but can it handle Ultras? wouild its broader sole support my broader, neatral strike foot better at 30km plus distances?
Very informative review.🤔 I know that it is individual and closely connected to runner's body weight and running style, but could you guess what is racing duration life of both shoes in kilometres and could you use them later for workout without causing bad impact on legs?
Would you recommend these shows for just general walking on roads and pavements? I’ve noticed my (dress) work shoes are giving me sore knees and back and I’m looking for a very practical shoe for maintaining the health of my joints. The reputation for Nike’s running shoes obviously precede them, so I’m strongly considering buying a pair.
