Totally agree about the offset lacing, I've got the VF 2's and just picked up a cheap pair of nearly new kipchoge VF 3's but yet to use them in anger. It is just a faff to get it feeling correct across the foot, but thankfully once theyre done they are fine, thanks in party to the ridged laces that hold the knot pretty well. Never really been convinced by any of the alpha range for racing due to the very possible failure of the air pockets. I recall Ben Parkes going through quite a few pairs of Zoom Tempo Next % having them pop. Imagine that in a peak marathon after months of training, no risk of that with the VF.

I haven't bought a Nike shoe since last century and I can't imagine ever buying any again, but I still found this video really interesting to watch. Another banger! Cheers, Edd 👍
First run in the VF3 last Thursday, massive blister under the right arch. Gutted as I had got them for Berlin in a few weeks and had no issue with the VF2 or AF2, will of course go again.
Yes, I have worn the VPF1 and 2, no issues but the VPF3 arches are too high (tried it at the store). Conversely, can't wear AF1 and AF2 due to high arches but can now wear the AF3. So I have now switched to AF3. Loving it ❤
I’m a 10k runner and I actually love my 2 pairs of AF3’s for speed work days. I generally like a plushier shoe and I found the vf3 just didn’t have that comfort factor. Also hated the lacing structure in the VF3 like you mentioned
I’m currently training my long runs in the vaporfly 3 and loving them. Racing a half marathon in them in 6 weeks. Saving the Alphafly 3 for my next marathon in July. If the Alpha3 is good, I’ll use them in the Melbourne marathon this year, otherwise I’m using the tried and tested Alphafly 1.
Unfortunately cant agree or disagree as i havent run in the Alphafly however ran the Liverpool half at the weekend in the vaporfly 3 and absolutely adored the ride. The fitnent is a little odd to get right but once sorted, i had no issue on the run. I was surprised how good they felt as the couple of training runs before didnt really set the heart racing. During race conditions, they just worked perfectly and really held my rhythm but allowed me to push on towards the end. Genuinely surprised how much i enjoyed thrm over the half marathon
Can’t agree just yet coz I still have to get my hands on A3s. But I believe you Ed. My wife says the same, she likes the A3 than the V3, overall. But V3 also has its strengths.
i got the AF3 for my half marathon! felt relieved when you said they felt like they were improving after every run. it’s hard to resist going for them for my tempo and long runs 😂
Come on I think you do intend the pun😂. Good to see them side by side, I’m taking your ar ice and going with the big cat (deviate nitro elite) for my 1st carbon race shoe
I’m not much of a long distance runner. I usually stick to 1.5 to 2.5 miles. I got a pair of Hoka Bondi 8 and I absolutely hate them. My previous shoe was the original alphafly. Would you suggest the A3 over the V3 for shorter distance running? I’m looking to get my splits back under 7:00.
Interesting that you are liking the AF3 more now as I recall they got a rather poor score in your review. Suggest get them into an actual race to best judge. I will be a need a lot of convincing myself and in my shoeoff with a VF3 I was just so much happier in the VF3 and TBH the fact it was easier for me to go faster in the VF3 was almost a bonus. That said I think I might try and get another VF3 pair to see if can detect any difference. Initially I thought I might like them even more than the VF1 and I did one very good (well for me) 5K in them a year ago but over time think the VF1 is still my favourite - mainly as the Vaporweave suited my narrow feet a lot better than the rather generous VF3 upper that I had to contort a lot.
Picked up a pair of the Alphafly 3 last weekend and was suprised to how well the upper fit my narrow foot. Still a huge fan of the Vaporweave material in the OG Vaporfly Next%, but this actually like Atomknit upper. And yeah, the lacing is spot on. Never loved the Vaporfly asyemtric lacing, it worked for me quite well, but the normal setup in the Alphafly is better. Running Boston on 4 weeks and debated using the Alphafly 3 but it's just too close to change (the OG Prime X is still in my rotation; YAY GOAT and StockX!).
Until you’ve run in an Alphafly you can’t appreciate just how incredible they are. I’ve just bought some V3’s as well. I’ll probably use these for shorter distances as they already feel like they are lacking stability for my 52 year old feet! I’m hoping to do my first marathon this year in Melbourne in October and I’ll stick with the Alphas.
I'm seeing so many tops reviews on the Alphafly 3 that I'm for sure gonna get it, but not sure about the volt colorway... Love the orange, white, and black though limited selection. Marathons aren't til August and December, should I hold out for a better colorway?
@EDDBUD My goal is eventually sub-3 marathon, do you think it's obtainable with the slower New Balance RC Elite V4? Apparently it's really comfortable and a better option for wide feet and what not.
I ended up getting Vaporfly Next% 2s over the Alphafly just in case the arch was an issue. Lennox Gilbey's mum got some knockoff shoes and they ruined her feet.
Hi edd, I really like VF3 for shorter distance races like 5 or 10k. I'm looking for for a fast workout shoe so I haven't to use VF3 all the time. What is the best fast (track) workout shoe recently?
The hype for a lot of runners on the Alphafly 3 has died because of it being unattainable even after the second drop. It's just ridiculous how all you can see now is resellers asking €500. Guess most of them are going to collect dust until the glue starts seperating in someone's collection rather then be used on the roads.
Just generally seems like Nike is sitting on being the innovators (of super shoes in general) and having the best marketing - with the build quality stagnating or deteriorating. All while other brands catch up and are ready to overtake
I want to do good 5k times and I want to choose between the two but I want a shoe that will be nicer on my knees which one should I go for I don’t mind which of the two feels faster I just want whatever is easier on the knees
I tried the VF2 and it really didn’t work for me, way too narrow & my foot just felt like it was falling off of the midsole. I’ve been running in the VF3 and it’s really worked for me! Not experienced the same problems with the upper that you have, it’s been my favourite super shoe since I’ve got it! Probably won’t be trying the AF3 for a while as it’s too expensive & hard to buy but the AF1 is still doing wonders for me!
I'm loving the VF2 for exactly the reason you don't like it, wider platforms really ruin my running form and cause instability, the VF2 and it's 7cm heal width is awesome for me, wanted to try the on cloud echo for this reason but it was too pricey.
Ran my third marathon in the vaporfly 3s. Very good shoe. Got a 10 minute improvement while using the vapor 3s. Not saying its completely down to the shoe. But the shoes was quite a dream to run in I must say.
Ran my best 5k in VF3 by over 1 min probably combination of things like weather, rest, good sleep pattern, no jacket today but was very impressed.
Nice work!
Good video Ed. Next would love a ASICS sky Paris v Nike AF3 comparison
Can tell you're loving slowly the Alphafly 3 really Ed 😅

Yeah the distance stuff is easier with the additional width on the AF

In fairness over time the af3 has won me over. Took time but love it now

The original Alphafly way amazing and felt pretty good on my high-arch/wide feet.
It’s still there but not quite as prominent. They have at least covered the arch with the insole now. Best version since the v1
